TOWNES, Kenneth Andrew 'Ken' - Peacefully at home, after a courageous battle with cancer, on Sunday January 4, 2009, in his 62nd year. Beloved husband to Edith (nee Ducker); loved Dad to Heidi Pothier (Marc), Ron (Tara), Jeff, and Ian; cherished Opa to Andrew, Alexandra, Abbey, Aspen, Hudson, Jacklynn, and Mia; dear brother to Francis (Lynn), Jim (Gloria), Barb (Stan) Ledgerwood, Brenda Humphries, Betty (John) Kells, Dora (Ron) Fried, Linda (Bob) Knowles, Violet (Ken) Brock and Marion (Don) Reeve. BILESKO, Thomas - With sadness, we announce the sudden passing of Thomas Bilesko on January 3, 2009, in his 94th year. Predeceased by his wife, Estelle, and great- grandson Alexander Cervoni. He is survived by his four daughters and their families: Timeena (Salvatore) Cervoni, Patricia Doyle, Christine (Donnell) McEachern, Katherine (David) Schmidt, grandchildren Alan (Patti) Cervoni, Shanna and Laura McEachern, Matthew, Nathan and Mandi Schmidt and great-granddaughters Amy, Alicia and Alaina Cervoni. Thomas served in the Royal Canadian Air Force during World War II. He was an avid amateur radio operator with the call letters VE3AGB. During the latter part of his working career, he used his technical knowledge to run his own television repair business in Niagara Falls. In his retirement he pursued an interest in computers, utilizing emails to keep in touch with family and friends. The family extends heartfelt gratitude to Tracey and Ed and Mel and Loretta - neighbours who truly know the meaning of that word - for their kind acts, especially during Thomas' four years as a widower. NIPPER, Ron Alexander Gary - Born March 03, 1936 in Winnipeg Manitoba. Son of Jean and Alexander Nipper both deceased. Ron was a consummate Stage Manager who worked all across Canada. He lived in Niagara-on-the-Lake and had retired from the Shaw Festival Theatre after thirty years employment in his chosen field. HARDMAN, Ronald - Passed away at Port Colborne General Hospital on January 4th, 2009 at the age of 72, after a tenacious battle with cancer. Predeceased by parents Albert Ernest and Christina Catherine, brothers Ted of Wiarton (late Teeda), Oliver of Wiarton (Evie) and Bill of Mar (Rose). Ron is survived by his wife of 50 years, Carol of Port Colborne, daughters Debra Ayres of Fort Erie, June Bartolomeo of Welland (Rick), Shelley MacDonald of Newmarket (Harold), and Anita Schmoll of Niagara Falls (Fred), 13 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren, sister Nellie (BC), and special sister-in-law Evie - who was as close as a mother. Ron worked as a crane operator with E.G. Marsh Engineering, and as a Marine Engineer with Upper Lakes Shipping, till his retirement, and was a member of the Mission of Seamen. A private family memorial service was held on January 5th, 2009. Interment will be at Bayview Cemetery, Wiarton, Ontario. Mr. James William Chandler May 8, 1917 - December 28, 2008 CHANDLER, James William It is with deepest of sympathy that the family announce the passing of James William Chandler of Halifax who passed away Sunday, December 28, 2008, in Camp Hill Veterans Memorial Building, Halifax. Born May 8, 1917, Dad joined the Royal Canadian Navy at a young age and served in protection of our country during the Second World War. He was also employed as a federal civil servant until his retirement. He was an avid dart player in his day and also greatly enjoyed bowling, of which he played his most recent games in December of this year. He was an active member of The Royal Canadian Legion for many years, and at a time held a position within the Branch as their sports officer. He was predeceased by a son, and in February of 1984, we mourned the loss of his loving wife, Eleanor. He was a loving and caring father and grandfather. Mr. Lambertus "Bep" Verberk February 21, 1925 - December 29, 2008 Of Kennetcook, Hants Co., formerly of Rockingham, passed away suddenly December 29, 2008. Born February 21, 1925, in Nijmegan, Holland, he was a son of the late Hendrikus and Cornelia (De Weerd) Verberk. He is survived by his wife, Anna (Anthony); daughter, Susanne (Kamran) Nisar, Bible Hill; sons, Lambertus "Bep" (Natalie), Ottawa; Hendrik "Tony" (Mary-Lynn), Halifax; grandchildren, Jake Verberk, Nicholas Verberk, Adam Nisar, Noah Nisar, Luke Verberk, Julia Verberk; sister, Reit Kuling, Nijmegan; several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by sister, Catherine "Toos" Verberk and brother, Garret Verberk of Nijmegan. Bep served in the Dutch Navy during the Second World War and came to Canada in 1947. A graduate of Dalhousie University, Halifax, Bep taught for 32 years at St. Patrick's High School, where he was Head of the Math Department. He was a founding member of the Rockingham Chapter of the Knights of Columbus and became a Forth Degree Knight. He was actively involved as a volunteer with several minor sports associations for over 25 years. Bep was also a member of the Atlantic Region German Shepard Dog Club and The Canadian Kennel Club. Visitation will be held 2-4, 7-9 p.m. Friday, January 2, in Atlantic Funeral Home, 6552 Bayers Rd., Halifax. Dr. Brenda Louanne Thiesson July 11, 1954 - December 29, 2008 THIESSON – Dr. Brenda Louanne, D.V.M., departed life’s pain and sorrow at the age of 54 in St. Paul’s Palliative Care Unit, Saskatoon, SK., on Monday, December 29th, 2008 following a courageous battle against cancer. Recently resettling in Saskatoon after several years of practicing veterinary medicine in Richmond, B.C., Brenda leaves to mourn her three sons, James Lawson (Jessica), Toronto, ON., Abraham Lawson, Japan, Tyler Lawson (Larissa), Victoria, B.C. and close friends Joe Carpenter, Chilliwack, B.C., Pam and Eric Woodsworth and “babies”, Yorkies Annie and Roy. Also mourning her loss are her four Thiesson brothers, Brian (Judy), Saskatoon, SK., Randall (Shelley), Saskatoon, SK., Scot (Leeanne), Regina, SK., Michael (Judy), Clavet, SK; parents Marie and Stuart Thiesson, Saskatoon, SK., as well as numerous nieces and nephews and close extended family friends. Brenda was an avid gardener, loved animals passionately and dedicated many years of her life to their care and nurturing, often against difficult odds. Mr. Peter Randall Roberts May 1, 1961 - December 29, 2008 ROBERTS, Peter Randall 44, Halifax, passed away on Monday, December 29, 2008. His death was sudden and much unexpected. Peter was the son of Leonard and Beverly Roberts. Peter was predeceased by his mother, Beverly. He is survived by his father, Leonard and his stepmother, Eva, Lower Sackville; as well by his brother, Glenn Roberts, Lower Sackville. Peter is also survived by his four stepsiblings, Christine Jewell, Hammonds Plains; Kathleen Flores, North Carolina, U.S.A.; Natalie McLeod, Hammonds Plains; and John McLeod, Timberlea. Peter has extended family in Newfoundland, many aunts and uncles and many, many friends in Nova Scotia who all loved him dearly and will miss him very much. There will be a memorial service held on Saturday, January 3, at 10:30 a.m. in Atlantic Funeral Homes, 125 Sackville Dr., Lower Sackville. Mr. Jack (John) Riley September 23, 1947 - December 29, 2008 Peacefully at Credit Valley Hospital on Monday December 29th,2008 at the age of 61. Loving and much loved husband of Helen (39 years). Loving son of the late Margaret and Stuart Riley of Belleville and the late Auntie Maude Krumm. Dear brother of Susan Flack (Paul) and uncle of Wendy and Lianne. Sadly missed by long time friends Gerald Williams, Jean and Jim Stollard, Lori McMillan and D.J. Tiemens and all his friends including those at U of T Faculty of Medicine. Jack was a dedicated employee of U of T from 1973 to his retirement in 2005. In 1983 Jack began work as a Multi-media technician at the Faculty of Medicine where he was well respected for the high quality of his work, his enquiring mind and his wicked sense of humour. Jack was devoted to his animals which include his white American Shepherd Bogie and his Eclectic parrot Quincy. Jack was an Astrologer and a self-taught computer wizard. He had an artistic flair that was readily apparent in the work he did with his computer. In spite of battling a serious, chronic illness for most of his life, Jack never allowed this illness to compromise his work nor did he lose his sense of humour. His independent spirit and love of life remained undiminished to the end. The family will receive friends for a Celebration of Jack’s Life at the Glen Oaks Memorial Chapel and Reception Centre, 3164 Ninth Line (at Dundas/403), Oakville on Sunday January 11th from 2-4 p.m. Special thanks to Dr. Robert D. Mr. Albert Konowski July 14, 1932 - December 29, 2008 Albert Konowski Albert passed away on Monday, December 29, 2008 at the age of 76 years. Albert is predeceased by his three children, Collin Glessing, Areta Konowski and Shawn Konowski; his father, Joseph Konowski; mother, Mary Drobotey; and brother, Elmer Konowski. Albert is survived by his children, Coral Schultz, Carmen (Wayne) Rodwell, Vanya Glessing and Dusty, Neysa (Scott) Amendt, Kieran (Chanel) Konowski; sister, Elsie (Norm) Halldorson; Carole Konowski; 15 grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren; one niece and two nephews. Over the years Albert enjoyed different careers. He was employed with the Saskatoon Fire Department as a firefighter; he took the last shovel of uranium at Rabbit Lake Mine as a shovel operator; and was a pump mechanic for Flygt Canada. Albert helped many friends with various projects with great willingness. Albert was baptized as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses for more than 45 years. He will be dearly missed for his high spirit and his wide range of knowledge. A Memorial Service will be held on Tuesday, January 6, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. from the Kingdom Hall of the Jehovah’s Witnesses (816 Queen Street, Saskatoon, SK). Myrtle Hornady August 18, 1916 - December 29, 2008 HORNADY, Myrtle August 18, 1916 - December 29, 2008 It is with great sadness that the family announces the passing of Mrs. Myrtle Hornady at the age of 92 years. Myrtle will be sorely missed and lovingly remembered by her daughter Gloria Jeanne Delorme, three cousins Carol (Leonard) Sorum, Richie (Yvonne) Larson and Laverna Dahl, Ross (Gail) Halseth, all the cousins of John and Inga Millar and all the nieces and nephews of the Halseth family, as well as other family and friends. Myrtle was predeceased by her son Gary Lynn in 1974 and her husband Coby in 1983. In keeping with Myrtles wishes, cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held on Saturday, January 3, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. at the Avonmore United Church, 7909-82 Avenue, Edmonton, AB. Myrtle will be laid to rest at the Mt. Pleasant Cemetery with her husband and son. Mom was the only child born and raised on the family farm in Donalda, Alberta. She was a life long volunteer both in the community and her church. She loved family reunions and sharing time with friends and neighbours. She had a heart of gold. Mrs. Madeline Annie Gaudet - December 29, 2008 GAUDET, Madeline Annie 85, Halifax, passed away peacefully on December 29, 2008, in the QEII Health Sciences Centre, Halifax. Born on a ship between Ireland and Nova Scotia, she was a daughter of the late George and Florence (McNarara) Kelly. She worked as a nurse at Fairview Villa for 19 years. She is survived by daughters, Deborah "Debbie", Halifax; Carolyn (David) Mercer, Enfield; four grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren, and one great great-granddaughter; many nieces and nephews, especially Bob (Simone) Little who both helped the family throughout this trying time. A very special friend Diane (Vincent) Boutilier who also was there many times to give a helping hand. Madeline was predeceased by son, Wayne; husband, Alphonse; sister, Amy; brother, Albert. At Madeline's request, there will be no visitation. A memorial mass will take place Monday, January 5 at 11 a.m. in St. Catherine's roman Catholic church with interment to be held at a later date. Catherine Evelyn Forsyth May 31, 1919 - December 29, 2008 FORSYTH, Catherine Evelyn A loving, dedicated and supportive wife, mother and grandmother died peacefully with family at her side on December 29th, 2008 at the age of 89 years. Catherine was a University of Windsor Graduate in which she earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree, Religious Studies, in 1985. She was a 12-year employee of Chrysler Canada during W.W.II. Catherine was also a Founding Member of the Chrysler Girls' Club. Leone was a waitress at Windsor Raceway for many years. Cher époux, il y a déjà trente-trois ans tu nous quittais si tragiquement. Cher Benoit, cher fils et frère bien-aimé, quinze longues années se sont écoulées depuis ton départ pour un monde meilleur. Tu nous manques beaucoup, tu étais, toi aussi, bien trop jeune pour nous quitter, mais l'on sait que tu veilles sur nous de là-haut. Ces cruelles séparations ont laissé nos coeurs tristes et meurtris. Vos coeurs savaient si bien nous remplir de gaïeté. Vous nous manquez beaucoup car vous n'avez pas eu le temps de nous dire "Adieu”. Les passages sur cette terre furent marqués par votre dévouement et votre grande bonté envers votre famille.
