LA FAMILLE LEGROS a le regret de vous annoncer le décès de M. RONALD LEGROS décédé au CSSS à l'hôpital de Hull le 29 décembre 2008, à l'âge de 73 ans. Il était le fils de feu Adonias Legros et de feu Jeanne D'Arc Villeneuve. Outre la mère de ses enfants, Claudette Simard, il laisse dans le deuil ses enfants: Michel (Joanne Gauthier), Joanne, Robert (Barbara Girard) et Sylvie (Michel Macra) et ses deux petits-enfants adorés: Jonathan, et Mélanie (Alex Guindon). Il laisse également ses 2 frères: Julien et Pierre et sa soeur Fernande ainsi que plusieurs belles-soeurs, neveux, nièces, cousin(e)s et ami(e)s. Il fut prédécédé par son frère Robert et par sa soeur Louise. À la demande de M. Ronald Legros il n'y aura pas de visites à la maison funéraire et aucune cérémonie religieuse n'aura lieu. Pour ceux qui le désirent, des dons à la Société canadienne du cancer du Québec seraient appréciés. DOUGALL, Ida Ada (nee Albanese) Surrounded by family throughout her illness, Ida passed away peacefully on January 4, 2009 at the Civic Hospital, Ottawa. Beloved wife of the late John, loving mother of Brian (Danielle), Mary Lang (Glen) and her late stepson Jack (Bertha). She will be missed by her grandchildren Caroline, Martin, John, Darin and Diana, and her 8 great-grandchildren. She is survived by brother Tom and sister Helen and many nieces and nephews. KENNEDY, Donald George, age 68. Peacefully in hospital, on December 31, 2008 in Newmarket, Ontario. Although we mourn our loss, he has gone home to join his Mom and Dad, Tressa and Ambrose Kennedy, his baby son Donald Gerard, his brothers Lorne, Richard, Leo and Harold, sisters-in-law Hilda and Kay and brothers-in-law Bernard Stanton and Lucien (Punch) Dube. Beloved husband of Colleen (nee Falls), father of Jason (Nicole) and Jeffrey (Susan) and grandfather "Poppy" of Kristen, Lindsay and Riley whom he held so dear. Survived by sisters Violet Stanton, Mona Dube, Mary Regan, brother Carl Kennedy, dear sisters-in-law Anne, Kathy, Leigh, brother-in-law James Regan and a host of nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews and their families whom he loved and was very proud. Donald loved all sports and as a young man was a member of the Ottawa Shamrocks hockey team and the Blessed Sacrament CYO team, both of which had great successes. He coached youngsters in hockey and baseball for many years in Mississauga and Burlington. His sons followed in his hockey footsteps and now his grandson Riley, is carrying the hockey torch. Visitation to take place on Friday, January 9, 2009 from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at Pinecrest Visitation Centre (2500 Baseline Road, Ottawa). Funeral Service will be held in the Pinecrest Chapel on Saturday, January 10, 2009 at 11:00 a.m., followed by a reception. MORISSET, Jean-Paul - Le 21 décembre 2008 est décédé à l'hôpital de Verdun, entouré de ses proches, Jean-Paul Morisset, à l'âge de 80 ans et 7 mois. Il était le fils de feu Gérard Morisset et de feu Marguerite Mignault, le frère de feu Denys Morisset et de feu Odile Morisset-Pineda. Il laisse dans le deuil sa compagne Françoise Daigneault, ses enfants Catherine (David Shugar), Danièle, Luc Emmanuel (Coleen Besserer), Véronique et Natalie, et son amie et ancienne épouse Marie-Andrée Lalonde, ainsi que neuf petits-enfants et six arrière-petits-enfants. Il a oeuvré pour le Musée du Québec, notamment en tant que photographe, où il a contribué avec son père à l'Inventaire des oeuvres d'art du Québec. Il a ensuite travaillé pour la Galerie Nationale du Canada à Ottawa en tant que directeur des services extérieurs, aux Presses de l'Université d'Ottawa en tant qu'éditeur, ainsi qu'à son compte, à titre de traducteur, réviseur, et gentleman cultivateur. Jean-Paul avait une grande joie de vivre et une profonde appréciation de la beauté. Tous ceux qui l'ont connu se souviendront de son sourire facile et contagieux, et de son enthousiasme. Il y aura une réunion-souvenir le samedi 10 janvier 2009 de 14 à 16 heures aux salons du cimetière Beechwood, situé au 280 rue Beechwood, à Ottawa, à laquelle tous sont invités en témoignage d'appréciation. Jean-Paul had a great love of life and an appreciation for all its beauty. His easy smile and his enthusiasm will be missed by all who knew him. A memorial gathering in his honour will be held on Saturday afternoon, January 10th 2009 from 2 until 4 at the Salons of Beechwood Cemetery, 280 Beechwood Street, Ottawa. Mrs. Maria Veenman September 12, 1918 - December 29, 2008 VEENMAN Maria N. of London and formerly of Chatham went to be with her Lord on Monday, December 29, 2008. Born in Berkel, The Netherlands, 90 years ago, daughter of the late Petrus Koppert and Adriana DeJong. Her husband Murray Veenman predeceased in 1971. Grieving her passing are her children Gary Veenman (Alice) of Elora, Shawnie Wildeboer (Bill) of Markdale, Anna B. Veenman (Stewart Plantinga) of Kincardine, Margaret Spithoff (Klaas) of Burlington, Kees Veenman (Bonnie) of Abbotsford, BC, Mary Veenman (Ken Kennedy) and Pauline Trudell (Marc) of London, 29 grandchildren and 59 great grandchildren. A sister Nees deVogel and in-laws, Gre Koppert, Niek and Co Veenman, Adrie van Bommel, Jannie Veenman all of the Netherlands and many nieces and nephews in Canada and The Netherlands. Predeceased by her brothers, Arie, Pete and Jan and sisters, Sjaan, Janny, Cor and Alie. Marie came to Canada in 1948 with her husband and her 4 eldest children, including six-week old Margaret. In Canada, Marie and Murray were blessed with three more children. Despite typical early immigrant struggles, Marie and Murray immediately loved their new country of Canada. As well as being a proud Canadian, Marie maintained her Dutch roots by frequently travelling to Holland to visit with family. In fact, if one phrase were to sum up the life of Marie, it would be "devotion to family and love of the Lord". After many years of living independently in Chatham, Marie began to suffer from Alzheimer’s Disease. She then spent five years brightening the lives of Mary and Ken in London. During this time, the difficult, but rewarding, task of looking after Marie was lightened immeasurably by the devoted support of her family. The family is also grateful for the support provided by her church family, by Saint Elizabeth support workers, and by McCormick Home Day Program staff. This support enabled Marie to stay in a family setting, until she finally moved to Elmwood Place Nursing Home, in Mary and Ken’s neighbourhood. The family appreciates the wonderful care that Marie received at Elmwood Place Nursing Home in London for over 4 years.Friends will be received for visitation at the Bowman Funeral Home, 4 Victoria Avenue, Chatham (519-352-2390) on Friday, January 2 from 2-4 and 7-9. A private family interment will take at Maple Leaf Cemetery, Chatham. ANQUETIL, Jean-Louis 1945 - 2008 Wednesday, December 31, 2008, in his 64th year. Born in Carentan, France, July 15, 1945. Beloved father of Barbara Anquetil and Isaac Ives. Jean-Louis taught French at Communications Canada at Shirley's Bay from 1975 to 1978. He was Director of Translation and Membership Services at the Canadian Barr Association from 1978 to 1989. Worked as a freelance translator and, most recently in charge of Quality Control at XentelDM. There will be no visitation. WEBBER, Mavis May 9, 1947 - December 22, 2008 Mavis Webber passed away peacefully at The Beverly Centre Lake Midnapore in Calgary, on Monday, December 22, 2008 at the age of 61 years. She is lovingly remembered by her husband Warren, son Marty (Teresa), daughter Carmen (Rene), brothers Cecil (Joan) Stollings and Larce (Eileen) Stollings, sister Shirley (Chalmers) Whitelaw, and extended family. Mavis, born at Nordegg, Alberta, to Esther and Earl Stollings, received her B.Ed. in home economics from the University of Saskatchewan. She taught home economics in Calgary before raising her children and later taught kindergarten in Arrowwood, Alberta. Mavis continued to substitute teach when she was not hiking, bird watching, canoeing or cross-country skiing. Mavis was actively involved in the 4-H community as a club leader, project leader and supportive parent for over a decade. We would like to thank our dear friends for their generosity of spirit, dedication to and care for Mavis, and constant companionship throughout this trying time. We would also like to thank the staff at the The Beverly Centre Lake Midnapore for their excellent care and friendship over the last few years. DOLLAR, Eva Grace (nee MacMillan) April 14, 1950 - January 2, 2009 Eva Grace Dollar passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on Friday, January 2, 2009 at the age of 58 years. Eva was born on April 14, 1950 in Wood Islands, Prince Edward Island and moved to Calgary in 1971. There, she found the love of her life, her diamond in the rough, Ernie, whom she married in 1975. One of her proudest achievements was becoming a loving and devoted mom to her two children, Madelene and Dustin. Eva enjoyed working at the Calgary Public Library and volunteering at Ogden Elementary School and her part in the family at Ogden United Church. Even after her MS made it difficult, she continued to be an active member of the community and an inspiration to all who met her. The things that brought her joy were time with friends, live music, travel (especially cruises), yoga, her photos and scrap booking. Eva learned very early that the secret to life is a smile. Eva is survived by her loving husband Ernie Dollar, children, Madelene (Chad) Bustard and Dustin (Kristin) Dollar; one grandchild, Keaton; sisters, Marie Wood and Janet Eva; brothers, Stanley MacMillan, Montgomery MacMillan and Alan MacMillan. Eva was predeceased by her parents, Madelene and Arthur; her sister Eileen and brother Doug. COWAN, Frances (Saxby) nee Reynolds - Born in 1924 in London, England to Albert and Annie Reynolds, Frances was taught to celebrate the gift of life every day. The family settled in Oshawa, Ontario with her brother Jack, dear grandparents Charles and Lillian, her special uncle Fred, all predeceased. Frances met the love of her life, Gordon Saxby and they married in 1944 in Statford. In 1946 their son Gregory was born. No child had a more loving, nurturing home. They moved to Sault Ste. Marie in 1960 and were active members of St. Luke's Cathedral. Gordon passed away in 1983. Blessed by one great love, Frances received such a second time with William Cowan of Newcastle, Ontario. They shared 20 glorious years until William's passing in September 2005. Despite a decline in health Frances' warm, generous spirit never faltered. She was a gifted seamstress and needle worker. She loved to dance and entertain. Her love of crafts she gave to her granddaughter Michelle; her love of home to daughter-in-law Dena (whom she loved as her own); her love of life to Gregory. She shared many special times with nephews John and Allan; niece Mary, sisters-in-law Joan, Evelyn and Elizabeth. Frances was blessed with many loving brothers and sisters-in-law, nephews and nieces, step- daughter Christine and special step-son Graham (Janna). Among many friends; Gertie, Marie, Grant, Nora, Harold, Beth, Frank, Patricia, Raymond, Dorothy, Warren, Vera, Anita, Richie, Robert and Laurence. Mr. Craig Barry Andrew April 11, 1954 - December 29, 2008 It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Craig Barry Andrew on December 29, 2008. Craig passed away peacefully and with Marg by his side. He was 54 years old. Craig is survived and lovingly remembered by his partner Marg Hayes; father Barry Andrew; brother Reed (Joan) Andrew, their children Shane, Jeremy and Jessica; sister Joan (Ken) Thomas, their son Dallas; Marg’s sisters; Dolores Riley, Pat (Ian) MacNeill, Roberta (Gordon) Laughland, and Kathy (Mike) Ratuski. Craig also leaves to cherish his memory uncles, aunts, cousins and a community of dear friends and colleagues. Craig is predeceased by his mother Mabel Andrew. Craig was born on April 11, 1954 in Regina and raised on Duncairn farm north of Regina. His love for the cattle industry began at an early age. The third word he learned to speak after “moma” and “dada” was “cow”. He was involved in 4-H throughout his youth and started taking purebred Shorthorns to shows in his early teens, a practice he continued throughout his life. Craig started school at Sterling – a one room school a half mile from his home. He graduated from Luther College in 1972 and U of S Voc Ag in 1975. Craig was a competitive curler in high school and a recreational curler and avid fan all his life. Craig started his Paragon herd and moved to Qu’Appelle in 1976 where his son Matthew was born. Craig became involved in various livestock and community organizations, including Saskatchewan and Canadian Shorthorn Associations, Saskatchewan Livestock Centre, Canadian Western Agribition, Saskatchewan Stock Growers Association and the Qu’Appelle & District Lions Club. 1985 saw Marg and Craig purchase and develop their current home and cattle operation. Ever an entrepreneur, Craig tackled many endeavors, the latest being Second Time Office Equipment. Severely tasked by his death, we grieve, but also feel blessed and rejoice in remembering and honouring his life. TUCKER, Thomas J. February 19, 1973 - January 4, 2009 Husband, Daddy, Son, Brother, Uncle, and IRONMAN. It is with great sadness, the family announces the passing of Tom Tucker on Sunday, January 4, 2009 after a courageous battle with cancer at the age of 35 years. Born in Red Deer, Alberta in 1973, Tom moved to Calgary at a young age. He was a dedicated athlete who excelled at hockey, advancing through the NEAA ranks and participated with the AAA Midget Northstars at the Annual Macs Christmas Tournament. Tom attended James Fowler High School and at the age of seventeen he played with the Calgary Canucks of the AJHL, before being recruited to the Ivy League by Princeton University to play NCAA Division I Hockey. At Princeton, Tom played both varsity hockey and rugby and distinguished himself with his work ethic and intensity. After graduating from Princeton in 1995, Tom began a career on Wall Street in Investment Banking. In 1999 he transitioned to Private Equity and worked in Sydney, Australia and London, England before returning to Calgary in 2005. In 2004, Tom was diagnosed with a tumor in the left temporal lobe of his brain. Upon receiving this diagnosis, and true to his character, Tom completed the New Zealand Ironman triathlon. Following surgery, Tom continued to compete in triathlons, completing the Australian and Canadian Ironman races as well as the World Ironman Championship in Kona, Hawaii. Along the way, he used his illness to raise awareness and money for brain tumor research. Like everything in his life, he approached his goals with tenacity. Tom was a loving Daddy, a dedicated husband and a true friend. He was exceptionally gifted and will be greatly missed by many. Tom is survived by his wife and "one true love", Kim; daughter, Annabella and unborn son Jake; mother and father, Ron and Judy Tucker; brother, Dan and his wife Heather and their son Jesse; grandmothers Ruby Damel and Eva Tucker, as well as numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews. Mr. Gerald Francis H. MacDougall January 10, 1916 - December 28, 2008 Gerald Francis Henley MacDougall age 92 of Amherst passed away on Sunday, December 28th, 2008 at the Cumberland Regional Health Care Centre in Upper Nappan, NS. Born in Amherst on January 10th, 1916, he was a son of the late Hugh and Annie (Flaherty) MacDougall. Gerald was a veteran of the Second World War, going overseas in 1942 to help maintain aircraft. He came back to Canada in 1946, where he married his beloved wife, Evelyn and began working as a guard in Dorchester. Upon completion of his surveyor training at Lawrencetown, NS, he worked at M.M.R.S. until 1960. Gerald then received employment with the Department of Transportation and Public Works until his retirement in 1981. He was an avid sportsman and bridge player as he was one of the first Amherst players to become a life master. He was also a curler who always found time to appear year after year at the Monctonian Bonspiel. He was also inducted into the Nova Scotia Legion Curling Hall of Fame. He was a past president of the Nova Scotia Branch of the Royal Caledonian Curling Association. Gerald was on the board at the Amherst Golf Club and ran the Cumberland/Westmorland Senior Golf League for many years. He is survived by his children, Dawna Ferguson of Abbotsford, BC, Paul and Ian (Anne) both of Amherst, as well as his sister, Marjorie (the late, Ronald) Coates of Owen Sound, ON; one granddaughter, Jo-Anne; five great grandchildren; many nieces, nephews and extended family. Gerald was predeceased by his wife the former, Evelyn Pauline Ash; sisters, Helena Langille, and Fidelis (Norman MacDougall) MacDougall; as well as his brothers, Bernard, Roy, and Jim. By request of the family there will be no visitation. Cremation has taken place under the care and direction of Campbell’s Funeral Home, 98 Church St., Amherst (667-9906) a private family service will be held at a later date. Maria Bakaj Passed away on / Décédé(e) le December 24, 2008 We regret to announce the death of Maria Bakaj on December 24th at the age of 99 years. She loved gardening - she grew the largest raspberries in Kapuskasing. She enjoyed cooking for family and playing Bingo. She was also a member of the Silver Seniors. She was predeceased by her husband George; 4 brothers; one sister and one grandson, Ricky Chinchello. MacINNES, Margery Baker April 25, 1931 - January 3, 2009 With sadness, we announce the death of Margery Baker MacInnes on Saturday, January 3, 2009. Margery lived her life fully and endured her recent illness with uncomplaining good humour. She enjoyed the companionship of many close friends, and over the years enjoyed playing bridge and physical activities such as skiing, tennis, golf and hiking. She was also passionate about her flower gardens and cooking. Her home was always warm and welcoming. Margery is survived by her husband of fifty-six years, Wallace, her daughters, Kathleen Henderson (Mark) of Edmonton and Margaret Scobie (Jeffrey) of Calgary, her son John MacInnes (Dawn) of Calgary, her grandchildren, Michael, Graham and Sarah Henderson, Carolyn and Susan Scobie, and Bayne MacInnes, and her brothers, Douglas Baker and Morris Baker. KING, Paul It is with heavy hearts, we announce the passing of our beloved Paul King on Saturday, January 3, 2009 at the age of 57 from melanoma. He died peacefully at home in Aylmer, Quebec. Paul was devoted to his wife of 35 years, his two children, loving family and caring, treasured friends. He will be missed tremendously. Paul was the beloved husband of Susan (nee Foster), father of Leigh-Anne and Adam, father-in-law to Brian, grandfather to Nathaniel and brother of Alan, Elaine and Gayle. He was born in 1951 in Newmarket, Ontario and raised in Whitby. He graduated from Carleton University with a degree in Geography and worked for the Federal Government in the Department of Transport. In 1981, he opened a bookstore, Food For Thought Books, in Ottawa's Byward Market. It was a thriving business and a hub for Ottawa's literary community. He hosted countless book-launch parties for local writers, making sure they were memorable evenings, enlivened with jazz bands and free-flowing liquor. Many well-known international authors were the delighted beneficiaries of his hospitality when they stopped by on book tours. He was a member and strong supporter of the independent book sellers association, but despite his valiant efforts his own store was forced to close in 1997. Paul continued to pursue his passion for books, working with the National Archives, CODE and other publishing-related organizations. He was an avid cyclist, golfer, canoeist, cross-country skier, adventurous tourist and encyclopedic reader. He reveled in the beauty of nature and the pleasures of the intellect. Most of all he loved stories - listening to them and telling them. He will be remembered with affection by anyone who knew him for his generosity, his irrepressible good humor and his commitment to family, friends and worthy causes. The family would like to thank the Aylmer CLSC (especially Helene) for their exceptional care and understanding during Paul's last weeks. Donations have been made and greatly appreciated by family and friends. A visitation will be held at Christ Church, 101 Rue Symmes, Aylmer, at 10 am Saturday, January 10, to be followed by the funeral service in the churchat 11 am.
