Mr. Peter "Pedro" Black August 6, 1972 - December 10, 2008 Black, Peter Lawrence "Pedro" Passed away peacefully, with family by his side, on December 10, 2008 at Brampton Civic Hospital, at the age of 36. Beloved son of Lawrence and Kathy Black. Older brother of Jason, and Edward and Judy. Boyfriend of Lisa. Dear grandson of Jean and the late Robert Hinks. Nephew of Tom and his wife Diane, and David and his partner Susan. Cousin of Alexander, Matthew and his wife Thuy, Otto and his wife Blaire, and Stuart. Pedro will be deeply missed by his collleagues and friends at Precidio Inc. Bernard "Ben" Breault August 16, 1935 - December 10, 2008 Died December 10, 2008 at age 73. Survived by his wife Judy Harris, his children Debbie & Brian, grandaughters Sarah Sevo, Jamie Breault, Kira Hicks, and great-grandson Brody Sevo-Lockhart. Brother of Jeannine Charron (Stoney Point), Jacqueline Oliver (Gwinn, Mi) and the late Rudy Breault. Ben was an active, energetic, fun-loving, creative guy who pushed himself hard to succeed in life in spite of obstacles he encountered along the way. After years at Shock Bros. Tree Service, he continued to work hard in “retirement” at Ben’s Tree Service only slowing down when health began to fail in recent years. Visiting Monday, December 15 from 2-5 and 7-9 pm. Parish prayers at 4 pm. Funeral procession leaves Tuesday, December 16, 2008 at 9:45 am from Melady Funeral Home, 572 Notre Dame, Belle River, 519-728-1500 to Visitation Church, Comber for Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 am. Mr. Frederick Clifford Cardiff September 10, 1942 - December 10, 2008 CARDIFF, Fred 66 years. Died on December 10th, 2008 at W.R.H. Met Campus. Beloved husband of 33 years to Marie. Mr. Denis Philip Joseph Dagenais January 4, 1947 - December 10, 2008 DAGENAIS – It is with great sadness that our father and husband, Denis Dagenais had passed away quietly with his family by his side on Wednesday, December 10th, 2008 from a short battle with cancer. Denis was born on Saturday, January 4th, 1947 in Prince Albert, Saskatchewan, to Ray and Irene Dagenais who had residence in rural Marcelin, Saskatchewan, where Denis was raised. Denis joined the Royal Canadian Air Force on April 5th, 1965, and trained in the electronics field in Clinton, Ontario where he met Linda (Moodie) his wife of 42 years. Together with many assignments within Canada, raised two children, son Anthony Dagenais of Edmonton and daughter Leisa Dagenais and had 3 grandsons, Steven, Daniel and Jonathan Allan, all from Saskatoon. Upon retirement from the military in 1975, he continued his work in the Electronics and Technologist field with the natural resource industry. Although he greatly enjoyed his work, he especially enjoyed golf, fishing, woodworking, boating, including membership with the Loyal Order of Elks, and a Commanding Officer with 221 (Watrous, Saskatchewan) Air Cadet Squadron. He was predeceased by his grandparents Herve and Antoinette Dagenais, Albert and Roseanna Verreault; father Raymond Dagenais; his wife’s parents Stewart and Margaret Moodie; brothers-in-law Frank Gerich, Gordon Moodie and many aunts and uncles. Denis is survived by many of his family including his mother Irene Dagenais; brothers Robert (Karen), Real (Denise) Dagenais; sisters Annette (Dale) Butler, Margret (Frank) Gerich, Olive (Lorne) Kulrick, Laurie (Gordon) Moodie and Karen (Jack) Cooper. Denis has had a fruitful and productive life, living it to its fullest and family and friends can attest to his character and demeanor; a gentle giant with a big heart who always had time for his family as a brother, dedicated husband, father, and especially for his grandsons. He never half heartedly attemped any task he had set his mind to. A Memorial Service will be held on Monday, December 15th, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. at Hillcrest Funeral Home (east on 8th Street, turn right before railway crossing) with Father Len Cyr officiating. Mrs. Alice Betty Dumont December 11, 1919 - December 10, 2008 DUMONT Alice Betty (nee Cooke) passed away peacefully in Stony Plain on December 10, 2008, one day prior to her 89th birthday. Betty, as she was known to her friends, was born in Wainwright, Alberta. She dedicated her life to raising her children; later becoming the glue that held her extended family together. She will be sorrowfully missed for her quick wit, humility and work ethic. Betty was predeceased by her husband Thomas in 1980; her parents: Alfred and Dorothy; daughter Leora (1941), sisters Eva and Winnie, and brother George. Betty is survived by her children: Elaine (John) Coumont, Reg (Karen), John, Gerry (Sharon) and Shelley (Grant) Movold; nine grandchildren Bart, David, Kathrine, Emile, Scott, Brad, Eric, Ryan, Jena; and great-grandchildren Kyle, Dylan, Thomas and Matthew. Born in Middleton on December 26, 1929, she was a daughter of the late James and Alma (Barrett) Heatley. Besides raising her family, Jean spent many years working in the family business (Myers Equipment), both alongside her husband and for several years after his death. FILIPOWSKI, Anne Marilyn B.A. - With heartfelt sorrow, but thanksgiving for her life, Anne died on Tuesday December 9, 2008 at the Princess Margaret Hospital, Palliative Care Unit, Toronto, after a courageous battle with cancer. Born in Welland, Ontario, November 10, 1965 she attended Eastdale Secondary School and was a graduate of University of Windsor. Anne was the beloved daughter of Cassandra (Pyrce) Filipowski and the late Walter Filipowski. She was much loved by her brother, Walter of Welland. She is predeceased by her grandparents John and Anna Pyrce, Uncle John, Uncle Frank and nephew Jim. Anne will be sadly missed by her loving and caring godparents, Janet Gojmerac of Alberta and Ted and Ruth Pyrce of Cheektowaga, New York and their families. Also many aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews. Anne was an International Business Analyst for Bodog Music in Toronto. She had worked for the Taiwanese Trade Centre in Toronto and B.C.S. Kaplan Educational Centre in Vancouver. Family and friends, old and new will remember Anne for her beautiful smile, the love of music, quick wit, laughter, elegance and generosity. Our very special thank you to the Surgical, Medical, Nursing Specialists and staff for their outstanding and compassionate care to Anne and her family at Mount Sinai Hospital and Palliative Care Unit in Toronto. OBITUARY ANDREW K. HUGESSEN JANE K. HUGESSEN (June 30,1926-Dec. 5, 2008) (July 10,1930-Nov. 25, 2008) Andy and Jane were partners in life, sports, traveling, raising four children (Brian (Gill), Wendy, John (Lynda) and Martha) and loving nine grandchildren (Constant, Worthy, Andrew, Richard, Ryan, Colin, Crystal, Hannah and Emily). They met skiing on top of Mount Washington and enjoyed 56 years of marriage together, teaching a love of nature and a care for the environment to their offspring and grandchildren. They demonstrated a sense of fairness, generosity, and enjoyment of life, cultivating and keeping many life-long friendships: they will be sorely missed. Andy spent the last few years helping Jane cope with COPD. In September he suffered a stroke, but recovered sufficiently after three months to transfer to the Chateau Westmount where Jane had moved. She died in her sleep the day after, having had a last visit with him, and he followed ten days later, surrounded by family. Andy graduated from McGill in Engineering ('49), Jane in Physical Education ('52). They postponed their marriage for Andy to sail for Canada in the '52 Helsinki Olympics -he came in tenth! He worked as an industrial engineer, for many years a consultant for the National Research Council, then as a professor at the Universite de Montreal. Jane's energies went first to raising their family, then to studying Early Childhood Education at McGill and working as a preschool teacher. She was also a prolific amateur photographer. Skiing in the winter, Twinski, Mount Tremblant, "boots in the bathtub" parties, hiking in the summer, Elderhostel trips to Alaska, the Arctic, bicycling through Europe, summers at Lake Anne with all kinds of relatives and friends visiting --they enjoyed the outdoors and shared their enjoyment with others. The Unitarian Church community was also an important part of their lives and they were involved in many social justice concerns. Many thanks to the wonderful doctors, nurses and staff at the Montreal General Hospital, particularly on the 14th floor (Traumatic Brain Injury), and to the staff at the Chateau Westmount. A memorial service for Andy (and including Jane) will be held at the Montreal Unitarian Church, Sunday, January 11, 2009 at 2 p.m. (Janes service was held previously on December 6, 2008.) IN MEMORIAM DONALD W. BURKE 1928 - 2006 Don died suddenly on December 13, 2006. He was a man who participated fully in all the activities he undertook, whether in business, within service clubs or in sports. His passing left an emptiness in these various organizations because of his giving nature. Don was an outstanding personality in whichever group he joined. In business, a Life Member of the Ordre des comptables agrees (C. A.), and awarded a Fellowship (F.C.A.) for contributions to the profession. National Managing Partner of Hyde Houghton, Chartered Accountants. A CMA with the Certified Management Accounting Association and was Secretary for many years. Awarded a Fellowship (F.C.M.A.) for meritorious work. A gold medal winner in accounting and, for years, lectured at Sir George Williams University. For public service, Don was an important member of the St. George Kiwanis Club. After the club merged with the Montreal Kiwanis Club, he was treasurer and served continually on the Board of Directors until his passing. His drive, energy and compassion for those less fortunate was instrumental in igniting other members to raise and distribute funds for the benefit of children and adults in poverty. He left a legacy to which the club still adheres. Don was ardent about sports all his life. As a younger person, he participated in a variety of such physical games for pleasure. After retirement, he golfed at the Royal Montreal Golf Club and, during winter, enjoyed curling at the Mount Royal Curling Club. JACHAN, Walther Fabian It is with saddened hearts that we announce the passing of Walther Jachan on December 9th, 2008. FENN, Gordon November 28, 1922-December 10, 2008 Passed away peacefully, with family at his bedside, at Abbotsford Regional Hospital and Cancer Care Centre, Abbotsford, B.C., following a stroke suffered November 27, 2008. Predeceased by his wife of 49 years, Bernice Margaret (Roycroft, 1993) and daughter Susan Walter (1986). Gordon and Bernice were married in 1944 in Digby, N.S. Gordon is survived by daughters Valerie (John Angove) of Fishers, IN, Alison Fenn (Greg Nutchey) of Abbotsford, B.C., sons Mark (Sandra) of Halifax, N.S., Greg (Vangie Refuerzo) of Brampton, ON, Frank (Lorraine) of Smiths Falls, ON and son-in-law Derek Walter of Kinburn, ON. Also survived by grandchildren Erin (Sheldon McInnis), Karina (Bradley Zimmerman), Julie (Jerry Vasquez), Jennifer (Adam Chester), Jennifer and Bradley Randall, Amos Fenn, Sabrina Nutchey, Isabelle and Celeste Fenn, Lilyanah Fenn, and great-grandchildren Brielle and Owyn McInnis and Susie Zimmerman. Also survived by brothers Frank of Brentwood Bay, B.C, and Peter (Helen) of Mississauga, ON, and numerous nieces and nephews. Gordon was born in County Durham, England in 1922, and immigrated with his family to the farming community of Radway, Alberta in 1927. Gordon spent a hard-working childhood on the prairie farm with many happy hockey and baseball games between chores and school. Gordon served in the Royal Canadian Navy during the Second World War with duties including Asdic operator. He served at HMCS Cornwallis and HMCS Naden and served on the Prince Robert, HMCS Halifax, HMCS Agassi, HMCS Dunvegan, HMCS Peregrine, and HMCS Stadaconna. He was in the Navy from 1941 to 1953 and then worked several years in the photography department of Ottawa Experimental Farm of Canada's Dept of Agriculture. Gordon went on to form his own newspaper and publishing business, Fenn-Graphic, in the Ottawa Valley in 1957. His newspapers included the Carp Review, Nepean Clarion, Gloucester Guardian and Arnprior Guide. His numerous editorials inspired civic change in these communities. He was recipient of the Nepean Citizen of the Year Award and various Ontario Newspaper Association awards. Following retirement Gordon moved west to British Columbia, where he worked on his memoirs, continued in his love of gardening and political affairs, as well as his hockey and baseball passions. Gordon's Memorial Service will be held at St Paul's United Church, Carp, ON, Wednesday, December 17, 2008 at 2 pm. Gordon would have appreciated donations to St. Paul's in lieu of flowers. FEIG, Shmuel On Friday, December 12, 2008 (15 Kislev) in his 82nd year, surrounded by his loving family, Shmuel gently passed away. Devoted husband to Malka for 58 years, loving father of Sara (Leslie), Zahava (Barry) and Yakov (Denise). Cherished Grandfather of Ariel (Mira), Shoshana, Miriam, Asher, Joshua and Anna. Loving and devoted brother to Moshe (Z'L'), Lily and their children Golda and Chaim and their families. Shmuel truly was one of a kind. A holocaust survivor, who fought for the establishment of the State of Israel, Shmuel loved all mankind and especially his family and community.
