FELLOWS, Lillian - January 24, 1923 - December 10, 2008 Peacefully at home with her family by her side in her 85th year after a courageous battle with cancer on Wednesday December 10, 2008. Beloved wife of Sidney for 58 years. Loving mother of Karen, Rodney and Murray (Chantal). Predeceased by her parents Edna and Herbert Hall, brothers Ernie and Harvey. Survived by brother Lloyd. Her early years spent as telephone operator with Bell and later retired from Atomic Energy of Canada. Lillian will be missed by nieces and nephews and church family. Mrs. Alice Betty Dumont December 11, 1919 - December 10, 2008 DUMONT Alice Betty (nee Cooke) passed away peacefully in Stony Plain on December 10, 2008, one day prior to her 89th birthday. Betty, as she was known to her friends, was born in Wainwright, Alberta. She dedicated her life to raising her children; later becoming the glue that held her extended family together. She will be sorrowfully missed for her quick wit, humility and work ethic. Betty was predeceased by her husband Thomas in 1980; her parents: Alfred and Dorothy; daughter Leora (1941), sisters Eva and Winnie, and brother George. Betty is survived by her children: Elaine (John) Coumont, Reg (Karen), John, Gerry (Sharon) and Shelley (Grant) Movold; nine grandchildren Bart, David, Kathrine, Emile, Scott, Brad, Eric, Ryan, Jena; and great-grandchildren Kyle, Dylan, Thomas and Matthew. Mr. Denis Philip Joseph Dagenais January 4, 1947 - December 10, 2008 DAGENAIS – It is with great sadness that our father and husband, Denis Dagenais had passed away quietly with his family by his side on Wednesday, December 10th, 2008 from a short battle with cancer. Denis was born on Saturday, January 4th, 1947 in Prince Albert, Saskatchewan, to Ray and Irene Dagenais who had residence in rural Marcelin, Saskatchewan, where Denis was raised. Denis joined the Royal Canadian Air Force on April 5th, 1965, and trained in the electronics field in Clinton, Ontario where he met Linda (Moodie) his wife of 42 years. Together with many assignments within Canada, raised two children, son Anthony Dagenais of Edmonton and daughter Leisa Dagenais and had 3 grandsons, Steven, Daniel and Jonathan Allan, all from Saskatoon. Upon retirement from the military in 1975, he continued his work in the Electronics and Technologist field with the natural resource industry. Although he greatly enjoyed his work, he especially enjoyed golf, fishing, woodworking, boating, including membership with the Loyal Order of Elks, and a Commanding Officer with 221 (Watrous, Saskatchewan) Air Cadet Squadron. He was predeceased by his grandparents Herve and Antoinette Dagenais, Albert and Roseanna Verreault; father Raymond Dagenais; his wife’s parents Stewart and Margaret Moodie; brothers-in-law Frank Gerich, Gordon Moodie and many aunts and uncles. Denis is survived by many of his family including his mother Irene Dagenais; brothers Robert (Karen), Real (Denise) Dagenais; sisters Annette (Dale) Butler, Margret (Frank) Gerich, Olive (Lorne) Kulrick, Laurie (Gordon) Moodie and Karen (Jack) Cooper. Denis has had a fruitful and productive life, living it to its fullest and family and friends can attest to his character and demeanor; a gentle giant with a big heart who always had time for his family as a brother, dedicated husband, father, and especially for his grandsons. He never half heartedly attemped any task he had set his mind to. A Memorial Service will be held on Monday, December 15th, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. at Hillcrest Funeral Home (east on 8th Street, turn right before railway crossing) with Father Len Cyr officiating. Interment of cremated remains will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the charity of one’s choice. Bernard "Ben" Breault August 16, 1935 - December 10, 2008 Died December 10, 2008 at age 73. Survived by his wife Judy Harris, his children Debbie & Brian, grandaughters Sarah Sevo, Jamie Breault, Kira Hicks, and great-grandson Brody Sevo-Lockhart. Brother of Jeannine Charron (Stoney Point), Jacqueline Oliver (Gwinn, Mi) and the late Rudy Breault. Ben was an active, energetic, fun-loving, creative guy who pushed himself hard to succeed in life in spite of obstacles he encountered along the way. After years at Shock Bros. Tree Service, he continued to work hard in “retirement” at Ben’s Tree Service only slowing down when health began to fail in recent years. Visiting Monday, December 15 from 2-5 and 7-9 pm. Mrs. Luigia (Gina) Zanutto September 1, 1921 - December 11, 2008 ZANUTTO It is with great sadness that the family of Luigia (Gina) Zanutto (nee Martello) announces her peaceful passing on December 11, 2008. Born September 1, 1921 in Merano, Italy she immigrated to Canada in 1958 and was a long-time Westfort resident and member of St. Agnes Parish. She was employed as a governess in Italy and then part-time custodian in Canada until her retirement. As a recent resident of Pinewood Court, Gina continued to enjoy the company of her long time friend Bianca and together with their friends old and new, actively participated in many social events and attended the in-house church services. She was a life member of the Ladies Venet Society, enjoyed reading, took her card playing very seriously, was an avid gardener, meticulously caring for her vegetables and flowers, especially her roses. She loved going to camp with her godson Lawrence and his family and always went for a dip in the lake as well as pruning and planting anything she determined needed doing!! Gina is predeceased by her husband Bonino Riva and Arturo Zanutto, parents Luigia Zuchiatti and Ludvico Martello, sister Ema Salveti and nephew Ettore Salveti (all in Italy). She is survived by her dear sister Yolanda Brida, cousin Sister Carmen, nieces and nephews. Funeral mass will be held at St. Agnes on Tuesday, December 16, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. celebrated by Father James. Il était le fils de feu David Préseault et de feu Élodie Ménard. Il laisse dans le deuil sa tendre épouse Rita Leclair; ses enfants bien-aimés: Louise (François Moncion), Michel (Liette Lahaie), Diane (Robert Laflamme), Rachel, Jeanne, Lucie (Luc Cloutier) et Claire (Alain Trépanier). Il était le grand-père taquin de 16 petits-enfants et le Ti-Phonse de 24 arrière-petits-enfants. PENN, Carol Elaine. The death of Carol Penn of Rothesay, NB, wife of James Penn, occurred Tuesday, December 9, 2008, at the Kings Way Care Centre, Quispamsis, NB. Born in Hartland, NB, she was the daughter of the late Leigh and Catherine (Taylor) Thornton. Carol lived in Montreal, Quebec and was a loyal employee of Bell Canada from 1952-1967. She was also employed with Crane McAvity, located in St. John's, New Brunswick from 1981-1984. Carol was affectionately known as "Mama Penn" by many Kennebecasis Valley High School students in the mid 1980s. Besides her husband, James, Carol is survived by one son, Brian Penn (Maureen), Saint John, NB; one sister, Sally Meehan, Greenfield Park, QC; several nieces and nephews and many cousins. The Penn family would like to take this opportunity to thank the staff of 3CS for the loving care Carol received during her two year stay at the Saint John Regional Hospital. At the family's request, there will be no visitation or memorial service. A private graveside service will be held at a later date. OLIVER, Keith October 11, 1938 - December 9, 2008 Keith Oliver, beloved husband of Mary Oliver of Calgary, passed away on December 9, 2008 at the age of 70 years. Keith lived a tremendous life, full of love and friendships. His career took him from the British Navy, to an English Police Officer. He then moved to Canada, settling in Calgary, where he worked in many different positions. In his retirement, Keith worked on the Security team at Westmont Place, until his illness forced him to resign. He will always be remembered by many for his dedication to his duties, regardless of what position he held and it was his professionalism, that set him apart from the ordinary. Keith will be sadly missed by all who knew him. Keith's memory will be entrusted to his loving wife of forty-nine years, Mary Oliver. Gordon served in the Royal Canadian Navy during the Second World War with duties including Asdic operator. He served at HMCS Cornwallis and HMCS Naden and served on the Prince Robert, HMCS Halifax, HMCS Agassi, HMCS Dunvegan, HMCS Peregrine, and HMCS Stadaconna. He was in the Navy from 1941 to 1953 and then worked several years in the photography department of Ottawa Experimental Farm of Canada's Dept of Agriculture. Gordon went on to form his own newspaper and publishing business, Fenn-Graphic, in the Ottawa Valley in 1957. His newspapers included the Carp Review, Nepean Clarion, Gloucester Guardian and Arnprior Guide. His numerous editorials inspired civic change in these communities. He was recipient of the Nepean Citizen of the Year Award and various Ontario Newspaper Association awards. Following retirement Gordon moved west to British Columbia, where he worked on his memoirs, continued in his love of gardening and political affairs, as well as his hockey and baseball passions. Gordon's Memorial Service will be held at St Paul's United Church, Carp, ON, Wednesday, December 17, 2008 at 2 pm. Gordon would have appreciated donations to St. Paul's in lieu of flowers. GLASS, Fern Thelma. Peacefully, on Friday, December 12, 2008, after a short illness. She is survived by her daughter, Stacia Rubinovich, of Toronto; her son, Dr. Mitchell Rubinovich, of Rome, N.Y. ; her son-in-law, Jeffrey Weinstein, and; her daughter-in-law, Candice Jennings. She was well loved by the late Irving Browman, and has been lovingly supported in her illness by his daughter, Sandy, and son-in-law, Howard Saskin, of Montreal, and by Dr. Maurice Browman and his wife, Josee Houde, of Malone, N.Y. In addition, Fern was well loved in health and illness by her intimate circle of friends. OBITUARY ANDREW K. HUGESSEN JANE K. HUGESSEN (June 30,1926-Dec. 5, 2008) (July 10,1930-Nov. 25, 2008) Andy and Jane were partners in life, sports, traveling, raising four children (Brian (Gill), Wendy, John (Lynda) and Martha) and loving nine grandchildren (Constant, Worthy, Andrew, Richard, Ryan, Colin, Crystal, Hannah and Emily). They met skiing on top of Mount Washington and enjoyed 56 years of marriage together, teaching a love of nature and a care for the environment to their offspring and grandchildren. They demonstrated a sense of fairness, generosity, and enjoyment of life, cultivating and keeping many life-long friendships: they will be sorely missed. Andy spent the last few years helping Jane cope with COPD. In September he suffered a stroke, but recovered sufficiently after three months to transfer to the Chateau Westmount where Jane had moved. She died in her sleep the day after, having had a last visit with him, and he followed ten days later, surrounded by family. Andy graduated from McGill in Engineering ('49), Jane in Physical Education ('52). They postponed their marriage for Andy to sail for Canada in the '52 Helsinki Olympics -he came in tenth! He worked as an industrial engineer, for many years a consultant for the National Research Council, then as a professor at the Universite de Montreal. Jane's energies went first to raising their family, then to studying Early Childhood Education at McGill and working as a preschool teacher. She was also a prolific amateur photographer. Skiing in the winter, Twinski, Mount Tremblant, "boots in the bathtub" parties, hiking in the summer, Elderhostel trips to Alaska, the Arctic, bicycling through Europe, summers at Lake Anne with all kinds of relatives and friends visiting --they enjoyed the outdoors and shared their enjoyment with others. The Unitarian Church community was also an important part of their lives and they were involved in many social justice concerns. Many thanks to the wonderful doctors, nurses and staff at the Montreal General Hospital, particularly on the 14th floor (Traumatic Brain Injury), and to the staff at the Chateau Westmount. A memorial service for Andy (and including Jane) will be held at the Montreal Unitarian Church, Sunday, January 11, 2009 at 2 p.m. (Janes service was held previously on December 6, 2008.) KIERAN, Albert Lawrence. Passed away peacefully on December 6, 2008 at Le Manoir Ste-Eustache at the age of eighty-nine after a courageous battle with cancer. Son of the late Philip and Lysbeth Kieran.
