McNAMARA, Mary (Lifetime Sacred Heart Church CWL Member) - Peacefully at St. Joseph's at Fleming surrounded by her loving family on Wednesday, November 19, 2008 in her 97th year. Born in Galway Township in 1912. Beloved wife of the late Michael John McNamara (September 26, 1953). Wonderful mother to Jack and wife Barb, Gail and husband Jim Wilson and Madonna and husband George Morasse. Much loved by her grandchildren Andrea Gifford, Shawna (Viv) Rao, Tammy Morasse, Ryan (Mel) Morasse, Erin (Richard) Nassar and Michael McNamara. Mary was also blessed with four beautiful great granddaughters Grace, Madison and Maya Rao and Macie Nassar. She leaves behind a sister Aileen Hobbins. Pre-deceased by her parents Thomas Coffey and Sarah Hurst, and sisters Margaret Smith, Laura Gosselin, Annie Barker, Jennie O'Neill, Theresa Hobbins, and brother Thomas Coffey. Ferena Mary Cooper (Basciano)- Passed away peacefully in Toronto with her children at her side on Wednesday, November 12, 2008 at the age of 84. Ferena leaves behind her son Anthony (Tony) Basciano, daughters Angela Basciano and Gina Martin (husband Doug). She was a devoted and much loved Grandma to Dana and Anthony Basciano Jr. and Ashley and Victoria Martin. Great-Grandmother to Christopher and Veronica. Predeceased by her parents Thomas Albert Cooper and Ida Marguerite Davis, her sister Iris Hammel and her brothers William, Norman, Ivan, Raymore and Donald Cooper. Cremation has taken place. There will be a memorial service on Sunday, November 23rd, 2008 from 1:00 to 3:00PM at Empress Gardens, 131 Charlotte Street, Peterborough. Interment at the Lakefield Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations to the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation or to the Trent Valley Archives. John is predeceased by his parents, Jack and Geneva McCullough and survived by brothers, Donald (Ola) McCullough, Ross (Annabelle) McCullough and sister Jane MacDougall. A lifelong resident of Kingston, John, together with his brothers, was a partner of Glen Supply Company Limited., and for many years was an active member at KYC. HARDIE, Kenneth Campbell 1915 - 2008 - Ken Hardie, 93, of Kingston and formerly of Lachine PQ, passed away suddenly on Nov. 18, 2008. He lived most of his life in Lachine and worked for the Dominion Bridge Company for many years. One of the great joys of his life was the game of golf, which he played expertly for over 70 years, stopping just a few years ago when he felt he could no longer do the game justice. He will be sadly missed, after almost sixty years of marriage, by his wife, Doris (nee Scott) and by his daughter Janet, and grandchildren David and Amy. As the last surviving member of his immediate family, he was predeceased by his parents Robert and Catherine Hardie, and by his sister Cathy (Cameron) and brothers Tom, Bob, and Ian. At Ken's request, there will be no visitation or funeral service. In memory of Ken, donations to the Alzheimer's Society would be appreciated. Arrangements entrusted to ROBERT J. BOISVERT (Prue), Nellie (nee Keyes) - After a valiant fight Nellie peacefully passed in Kingston General Hospital on Tuesday, November 18th after celebrating her 87th birthday. Predeceased by her husbands Ted Prue and Al Boisvert. She will be missed by her sons Howard Prue (the late Gayle) and Mike Boisvert (Maureen). Cherished grandmother to Douglas (the late Sharon), Bill (Denise), Howard Jr. (Kelly), Sherry (Paddy) Donahue, Quentin (Alannah), Matthew, Natalia, Adam and Sierra and beloved great-grandmother to 16. Predeceased by her brother Donald and survived by her sister Nina and her brother Garnet. Sadly missed by many nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank the nurses and staff of Connell 9 and ECU for their extraordinary care during Nellie's illness. CUMING, Howard Nelson “Howie“ - With courage, grace and dignity, peacefully after a brief illness at the Peterborough Regional Health Care Centre on Thursday November 13th, 2008 in his 89th year. Beloved husband of Sonja. Predeceased by Marjorie Moran. Loving father of Carol Cuming, Sandra Cuming, Susan Cuming (Martin) and step father to Jeanette Sanderson (Brian), Valerie Clements (Avrim), Murray Clements (Felice), and Carolyn Thomas (Dave). Uncle of Louise Kallison (Keith) and Richard Cuming (Ann). Forever in the hearts of his adored grandchildren Maggie, Brianna, Sommer, Teresa, Emma, Colin, Elizabeth, Sonja, Hillary and Heather. Born in Whitewood, Saskatchewan in 1920, son of Adeline and Gilbert, he was the last surviving member of five siblings. A veteran of WWll, Howie was a member of 435/436 Burma Star Squadron. He was named in dispatches during missions and was head jump master for the paratroop invasion of Rangoon for which he received the Distinguished Flying Cross. Howie lived his life with tremendous joie de vivre, embracing every opportunity for fun and adventure. He was a jeweler beginning his career in Brampton before settling in Deep River, ON where he also owned a small plaza. He spent his days flying across the river into Quebec where he indulged his life long love of hunting and fishing. Also an avid golfer, he shared these times with as many of his friends and family as would join him and as he lived larger than life, he showed others how rich life could be. BELLUZ, Reg 2008-11-20 July 17, 1930 – Nov 16, 2008 With great sadness the family announces the passing of Reg Belluz on November 16, 2008 after a lengthy battle with colon cancer. Reg is survived by his devoted wife Ann, his 6 children; Brian (Joyce), Thunder Bay; Doreen (Toby) Graveson, Thunder Bay; Janice (Phil) Avella, Thunder Bay; Debra (Robin) Clark, Thunder Bay; Laura, Kelowna; Stephen (Penny), Thunder Bay; his two step children: Warren (Angel) Rogers, Calgary; Cerrie Rogers, Montreal; 15 grandchildren and 4 great grand children. Also surviving is one sister, Pamela Falk, Thunder Bay, and many nieces and nephews. Reg was born in Fort William on July 17, 1930 to Oswald and Louisa Belluz, the youngest of 9 children; where he remained on the family farm, married Anne Butchik and raised their 6 children. Reg was an untiring volunteer in the community, serving on many organizations during his farming career. In 1980 he retired from farming and formed his own business, (Reg Belluz Supplies) selling and installing farm machinery, and supplies. In 1983 Reg remarried and in 1994 he and Ann retired to Kelowna. Reg and Ann enjoyed several winters in Arizona where he excelled at shuffle board and made many friends. But Reg‘s greatest retirement joy was his keyboard music and he entertained regularly in Arizona and at most of the retirement homes in Kelowna as Reg‘s Golden Melodies. Reg will be remembered for his strong work ethic, his love of people, animals and entertaining, his sense of humour and his huge smile. Family and friends are invited to a celebration of Reg‘s life that will be held at the Kakabeka Legion on November 22, 2008 at 2pm. POWTER, Elizabeth Gwen - Peacefully at the Hotel Dieu Shaver Hospital early Wednesday, November 19, 2008 having recently celebrated her 87th birthday. Predeceased by her first husband Arthur Maliphant (1964) and Richard Powter (1989). Beloved mother of Patricia Cicci (Victor), Peter Maliphant (Arlene) of St. Catharines, Judy Borse (Brian) of Ottawa and Andrew Powter of Hampton, Nova Scotia. She will be greatly missed by her 11 grandchildren, Jill Groat (Jamie), Pamela Cicci (Shawn Michaud), Kristen Maliphant (Scott Gummer), Ryan Maliphant, Donovan Maliphant, Susan Borse, Janet Borse (Craig McHugh), Lynn Roman (Richard), Tess Powter (Paul LeRoy), Seth Powter (Andrea) and Maggie Powter (Devin Bailey). Gwen was proud and loving of her 21 great- grandchildren. Gwen was born in Swansea, Wales and is survived by her eldest sister Ann Jones who resides in Wales. She is predeceased by her 2 sisters in Britain and by her brother Bryn John of St. Catharines. Gwen was very active in the St. Catharines community as a driver for the Family and Children's Services Niagara winning the Provincial Community Service Award and with St. George's Anglican Church serving as a member of the Parochial Society and assisting with numerous fundraising and outreach events. FREEL, Burley George - Peacefully with his family by his side on November 19, 2008, at the Niagara-On-The-Lake Hospital, in his 85th year. Husband of the late Mary Freel (nee Quinn, 2006). Burley is survived by his five children; Donna Lee (Stan), Linda (Rob), Harvey (Sandy), Brian (Eileen), Robert (Leah) and special family friend Dianna. Also survived by ten grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Beloved uncle of many nieces and nephews, especially Michael (Linda). Brother-in-law of Anne Freel. Burley is also predeceased by brothers, Walter (Irene), Willard and Clair. Burley was a WWII veteran as a trooper with the Canadian Armored Corp, and a lifetime member of Branch #124 of the Royal Canadian Legion. He was also a lifetime member of U.A. Local 666 (Plumbers Union). He will be missed by many friends, family and his faithful feline Heide. DYKSTRA, Harry - Passed away peacefully at the North Bay General Hospital - Scollard Site, on Sunday, November 16th, 2008 at the age of 78. Harry was the beloved husband of Elma, loving father of Robert of London, Diane of North Bay, Brenda and her husband Jim Malloy of Newmarket and Brian and his wife Shelagh of Corbeil. He was the proud grandfather of Michael and Josh. Harry served during World War II when he joined the Merchant Navy, serving from 1942-45. He worked with the Canadian National Railway for 36 years, retiring as Trainmaster in 1986. In retirement, Harry and Elma enjoyed wintering in Florida, and he enjoyed reading, golfing and fishing. A Private Family Service was held at the MARTYN FUNERAL HOME on Wednesday, November 19th. Cremation was held at the Forest Lawn Cemetery and Crematorium. HEMSWORTH, Norma Eleanor (nee Foster) - on Tuesday, November 18th at Brantford General Hospital. Norma, 88, died as she had lived her life: with strength and dignity. Predeceased by her husband Noel (1986), Norma leaves a large family to cherish memories of her warmth and kindness, her quick wit, lively humour and sharp intelligence. She was the proud mother of Gordon (Anne), Greg (Susan), Susan (Michael Craig) and Christopher. Norma was the loving grandmother of Wade (Aviva), Lesley and Dan Hemsworth (Erica Kachmarsky); Ashley and Jaimie Hemsworth; Matthew Craig (Lindsay) and Kendra Jaworski (Jeff). She was the delighted great- grandmother of Benjamin and Toby Anne Hemsworth, Chloe and Nolan Craig and Jayna and Lukas Jaworski. She missed her dear friend of later years, Cliff Robilliard. She is predeceased by her sister Audrey Bain. Born and educated in Fredericton, NB, Norma was a teacher early in her life. She moved to Ottawa during the Second World War, and later to Brantford, where she and Noel raised their family, and where, through several working roles, she was perhaps best known as the longtime executive secretary of the Brantford Rotary Club. An avid bridge player, Norma remained active and keenly interested in all the people and events around her, to the very end. All the many people who loved her will miss her profoundly. Norma's family and friends are grateful for the tender care of the staff at Brantford General Hospital. WOODRUFF, Bruce - Peacefully, at home, in his wife's company, on Tuesday, November 18, 2008. Beloved husband of Gloria. Dear father of Nathaniel, George, Elizabeth and Catherine, grandfather of Nathaniel and Serena. Bruce is predeceased by his parents, Marion and Wilfrid and survived by his sister Lynn Jacob of Bracebridge, sisters and brothers-in-law Glenna and Don Picket of Oakville, Janet and Larry Gibson of Caledonia and mother- in-law Evelyn Roblin of St. Catharines. After brief careers as a reporter for the Niagara Falls Evening Review and teacher of elementary then secondary school, Bruce was an instructor of Language Studies at Mohawk College for 26 years. He was a candidate in the 1974 federal election. Bruce contributed greatly to his community. He was a working member of the London Little Theatre and produced two operas for the Hamilton Opera Corporation. He and his wife, Gloria, restored and designated the 1839 Woodruff family home, Woodbourne, St. David's. Bruce served on NOTL Heritage Committee and Willowbank School of Restoration Arts Board, initiated the St. David's Ratepayers Association and St. David's Heritage Day. Resting at the FUNERAL CHAPEL OF HETHERINGTON AND DEANS, 5176 Victoria Ave., Niagara Falls, where family will receive friends Thursday evening 7-9, Friday 2-4 and 7-9.
