GRAHAM, Eleanor Wilma - Peacefully at home on Wednesday, November 12, 2008 at age 72. Loving mother, grandmother and longtime contributor to the Niagara community. Eleanor was a former soloist with the Central United Church Choir, a member of the Welland Little Theatre and Port Colborne Operatic Society, on the board of directors of the Welland Humane Society, a graduate of Niagara College and a proud member of the college's inaugural staff. Eleanor's tremendous faith and spirit will live on with those who loved her: her daughter Dr. Karen Lea Johnson (nee, Arseneault); her grandchildren Laine Elizabeth Johnson and Michael Mackenzie Johnson; and her son-in-law Curtis Johnson all of Ottawa. Basque, époux de feu Évelyne McGraw, domicilié à la Villa Saint-Joseph, mais autrefois de Losier Settlement. Né le 17 décembre 1921, il était fils de feu Auguste Basque et de feu Adéline Richard. Il laisse dans le deuil une fille, M. A. Marie, Ont. and John (Kashalya) of Victoria, B.C. Daughter of the late Roy and Catherine Collver of Simcoe, Ont. Sister of Ruth (late Bill) Marshall of Cleveland, Ohio, and the late Keith of Simcoe, Ont. Sister-in-law of Betty (late Lloyd) MacHattie of Toronto, Ont., Leslie and Vicki MacHattie of Ottawa, Ont., Harvey (died in WW2), Lorne and Judy MacHattie of New Bedford, Mass. Proud grandmother of seven grandchildren, Fields, Timothy, Emily, Elisa of Vancouver B.C., Mario of Toronto, Ont., Libby of Victoria, B.C. and Charlotte of Trail, B.C. Aunt of many nieces and nephews. Pat took her training as a nurse at Brantford General Hospital, graduating in 1942. Pat loved the out-of doors and everything that lives and grows. She served on the executive of the Sault Naturalists Club and was an ardent bird watcher. She was a long-time member of the Ski Patrol and was a ski instructor. She was a volunteer leader at YMCA and RYTAC and served on the board. We ask you to join in a celebration of Pat's life at a Memorial Service at St. Andrew's United Church on Friday, November 28, 2008 at 1:30 pm. MERRITT, Sylvia May (Brumby). Passed away peacefully in her sleep on Saturday, November 1, 2008 at The Lakeshore General Hospital. Born in Driffield, England on May 12, 1920, Sylvia was the sole surviving triplet and youngest daughter of Archibald and Lillian Brumby, sister to Delva, Elsie, Sheila and Walter. Sylvia married the love of her life, Dr. Clarke Merritt in 1948 who predeceased her in September 2007. Sylvia's greatest love was her family and she raised sons Clarke and Warren with devotion and guidance. She was a caring grandmother to Christopher and Jonathan and a wonderful friend to all who knew her. She loved animals and was passionate about gardening and painting. She is survived by sons Clarke (Dorothea) and Warren (Debra), loving grandsons Christopher and Jonathan and sister Elsie Gagnon. Burial at Montreal Memorial Gardens. Krulikewycz, Annie 2008-11-14 1926 - 2008 It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Mrs. Annie Krulikewycz on November 12, 2008 at the age of 82. Annie was born September 9, 1926, in Wirbiehy District Rawa Ruska near the city of Iwiv in Western Ukraine. She came to Canada in 1939 with her mother Eva and younger brother Walter. Annie enjoyed gardening and spending time with her family and took great pride in her raspberry bushes. She retired in 1971 from St. Joseph‘s Hospital. Annie will be missed by son Michael Kruchowski, sister Stella Miro (Bruno), sister-in-law Vera Kobryn, nephews and nieces, Jeff Miro, John and Jim Nelson, Barrie and David Kobryn, Sherri Asunmaa and Tracy Teskey as well as several great nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her mother and father Eva and Fred Kobryn, husband Andrew Krulikewycz, brother Walter Kobryn, sister Edna Nelson and brother-in-law Jack Nelson. SZYJA, Katherine (Brown) 2008-11-14 It is with great sadness that the Szyja and Brown families of Katherine Szyja (Brown), age 36 years, passed away unexpectedly on November 11, 2008. Kathy was born in Thunder Bay, Ontario to her loving mother Linda, brothers Jamie, John and uncle Bill. Bob Brown and Katherine met on October 15, 1993. It was the best day of husband Bob‘s life. She loved and was devoted to her family and friends. Kathy touched everyone she came into contact with. Her love for her family and her caring nature made her the person most of us wish we could be. She never ever put herself first. Everyone else‘s feelings were here priority. Her love for Ryder, her nephew, was unconditional and complete. It can only be compared to a mother and child. Her dog Lady was a great source of joy and happiness for her. One glance at Lady is all one needs to understand the love and attention Kathy gave to her. How do I put something so wonderful and lovely into a few sentences? From the day I met her until the day God called her to his side, everyday was the best day of my life. Fifteen wonderful years together now seem to be one moment in time. Kathy was everything I wasn‘t and then some. She made me complete. Kathy helped me be something she could be proud of; she made me a better man. Kathy fulfilled all of my dreams and expectations. She was my everything; my world. Thank you for choosing to love me with all my faults. Thank you for sharing your entire being with me. Thank you for making me a good man. Kathy, my heart aches and my tomorrow‘s will never be as complete and fulfilling as my yesterday‘s with you. I will love you forever and ever and I will never, ever forget you baby. She will be deeply/sadly missed by her husband Bob, mother Linda Szyja, brothers John, Jamie and David, nephew Ryder (her pride and joy) and her uncle Bill who was more of a father than an uncle to her. He was a very proud Grandpa of Allison and Kurtis Kirkbride, Karen and Sarah Tousignant, Stéphanie and Roxanne Dubé, Randy and Mickey Moore, and Great Grandpa de Britany, Brandon and the mother Tracy Moore. Claude will always be remembered by his siblings, Louis Dubé of Chapleau and his sister Simone Pomerleau of Smooth Rock Falls. He was a loving Uncle, and will be missed by several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, Joseph Dubé and Azélia Lapointe. Claude was a proud 3rd, degree member of the Knight’s of Columbus in Smooth Rock Falls. Laroy “Roy” Allen died suddenly at his home in New Liskeard on November 4, 2008 at the age of 66. He was born June 20, 1942 to the Thomas Allen and Annie Hanson. He was predeceased by his parents and his son Robert Allen. Ninette Dupuis Following a brief battle with cancer, Ninette Dupuis died at the Temiskaming Hospital on November 10, 2008 at the age of 66. She was born in Kapuskasing on June 16, 1942 to Armand and Juliette Lallier. She had worked as an RPN at the Temiskaming Hospital for nearly 40 years. She loved reading, the outdoors and especially fishing. Mrs. Dupuis was a real people person with a kind heart who loved taking care of others. She took great pride in her work and good care of her patients. She loved her family and was very proud of her grandchildren and she will be missed dearly. Mrs. Dupuis is survived by her loving husband Alex whom she married on July 30, 1960; her children Ronald Dupuis and Doris Dupuis Lemyre of Haileybury; her beloved grandchildren Justin (Kelly), Michel (Shelly) and Tiffany; and her siblings Guy (Rose) Lallier, Lise Wedge-Lallier and Rollande (Roger) Dumais. McRAILD, Gary - Born to Beulah and Douglas McRaild in St. Thomas, Ontario on August 22, 1936. Gary was the sunshine in his Grandparents lives, Edith and Barny Brady...and a son to step-father Ervi Kari. Raised in Sudbury, Gary also lived in Georgia and Florida before moving to North Bay with his wife Lynne (nee McCarthy) in 1987. Gary lived life to the fullest. He laughed with gusto and wept with tenderness. He cherished those he cared about and made them feel special. He truly enjoyed playing billiards, golf, moose and partridge hunting, fishing, spending time at his island on Lake Penage, playing cards, winning at the casino and driving his vehicles. He especially enjoyed travelling to visit old and new friends in Canada and the USA. Gary had more loving and supportive friends than most people and they carried him through his battle with cancer with their e-mails, prayers, phone calls, visits to hospitals and his home and picking up supplies, food and transportation for his spouse. Also his in-laws and nieces and nephews were there for him, supporting every decision he made. Gary surpassed any dreams I may have had of a good husband. He was my best friend, advisor, supporter and advocate. He was gentle, kind and giving and unselfish. When asked by friends that he would help out, why he was doing it, his answer was always “Because I Can“! It became a famous saying around here. Gary was the light of my life and his intense friendship meant as much as his love did to me. I have not lost Gary. He will always be with me and has promised to wait “On the Other Side“ for me. He crossed over at home in my loving arms on November 5th, a sunny and warm day. He left to “soar with the eagles“. I will love him beyond forever. Very special thanks to best friends Jack and Jimmie Mote, Ross and Janice Day, Tom Comba, Roly Ribout and to Pat and Linda McCarthy for always being there. Thank you to our niece Kelly Batchilder, who was like a daughter to Gary and came to spend time with him near the end. Thank you to Curtis Mayer, his grand-nephew, who lovingly performed the duties required to make Gary more comfortable in his final two weeks and to keep nightly vigils by his side and who was there when Gary crossed over. We asked God for some help, and he sent the VON nurses, who were superlative in their care and support and are truly Angels of Mercy, the Red Cross and CCAC. Thank you to Dr. Ishak and Dr. Same for their compassion and understanding, Dr. Andronowski for shrinking the tumor so that his trach could be removed and Dr. Andrew Spencer for making sure Gary was pain free and comfortable in his final days. Thank you to all the wonderful nurses in North Bay and Sudbury hospitals for their tender care, kindness, and encouragement. Gary is survived and loved by his in-laws, Pat and Linda McCarthy and Lorna Tomlinson; by his nieces and nephews Kelly Batchilder, Alison Milne (Coby), Ryan McCarthy, Robyn McCarthy (Lil' Twerp), Blake Tomlinson, Wade Tomlinson, grand-newphew Curtis Mayer and great-grandniece Austyn Mayer, also by near-granddaughter, Shilah Day. A great part of his early life was made of happy memories spent with his cousins, Aunt Vera Leclair, Aunt Shirley and Aunt Berle and their families.Cremation, followed by private farewell with friends next summer, as per Gary's wish. If so desired, donations to our dear friend in Florida, 74 years of age, who is seeking more housecleaning jobs and is struggling to keep her home and maintain the health of 16 beautiful animals that she rescued from abuse or abandonment, mostly parrots, cats and two elderly dogs. EDWARD, Peggy Alison - February 6, 1929 - November 10, 2008 - Peacefully at London's Victoria Hospital at the age of 79 years. The daughter of Fred and Chris Jones, Peggy was born and raised in Niagara Falls, Ontario and graduated in nursing from St. Joseph's Hospital, Hamilton in 1950. Her nursing career took her to Sudbury, Ontario where she met Peter Edward, her husband of 56 years. After many years in the north, Peggy and Peter resided in the Toronto area before retiring to Niagara-on-the Lake always returning to Manitoulin Island for the summers. Peggy was the consummate caregiver and homemaker, believing family came first. She was a loving wife, a devoted mother and a beloved Nana. She lived her life with grace and humility. DUNCALFE, VINCENT PERRY- May 13, 1964 October 30, 2008 The family of Vincent (Perry) Duncalfe regretfully announces the passing of Perry on the 30th day of October 2008. After a short stay in the Calgary Foothills Hospital, he passed away suddenly that evening at 6 PM after suffering from a long term chronic illness. Vince's battle for life is now over. He was born May 13, 1964, son of Raymond and Vivian (Story) Duncalfe at the Grace Hospital in Winnipeg, Manitoba. He leaves behind his life partner of many years, Pierre Baedeker, who will greatly miss him, as well as, his immediate family members who will always remember his quirky sense of humor, love of cooking, his love of life and his boisterous attitude. HANSEN, Marvin E. May 28, 1926 November 8, 2008 Born in Big Valley Alberta, grew up in Kamloops. Here he learned to fly and soloed at 12 years old. Moved to Mayne Island in 1941 with his father. Joined the Navy in 1944. After discharge he enjoyed bush flying on the BC coast and in the far North. He was a natural pilot, studied hard and became a captain for Air Canada (TCA) until an accident caused the loss of his right eye. Later he had Service Stations at 12th & Cambie and at E.Hastings at Cliffe. He felt blessed to have had 22 years of retirement on his beloved Mayne Island, sailing in summers and exploring Baja and Palm Springs in winters. Survived by wife Hazel, two sons, Jeffrey (Mary) and Douglas, and grandson Scott. Memorial Service will be held at St. Mary Magdelene Church on Mayne Island, Nov. 29, 2008 at 11:30am. KLASSEN, Carl (1918 2008) Carl Klassen went home to be with his Saviour and Lord on Nov 10th at Abbotsford Regional Hospital at the age of 90. Carl is survived by his wife, Sara, his brother Allan (Ruth) and Sara's daughter-in-laws, Shirley Hinkel and Bonny Hinkel. Lillian was born in Regina, Saskatchewan, on April 11th, 1921, third in a family of twelve children. She and Alan were married on July 23rd, 1949 and raised their family in Vernon and Kamloops before retiring in Victoria. Lillian was a loving, gentle mother and grandmother. She enjoyed golfing, gardening, playing bridge, traveling, choir and her many lifelong friends. Lillian will be best remembered for her pleasant charm. Heartfelt thanks to the staff of Beechwood in Sydney, Sunrise of Lynn Valley and Lions Gate Hospital for the special care they gave Lillian. A private ceremony will be held at a later date.
