PINKERTON, Anna On November, 11, 2008 Anna Pinkerton passed away peacefully with her family by her side. Anna was born September 11, 1920 in Paisley, Scotland. Anna joins her husband Jack in who died 1992. Anna is survived by her daughter Jennifer, grandson Jason (his wife Lauren), and family and friends. The last week of her life was more comfortable and peaceful thanks to the excellent compassionate care of Dr Alec Walton, surgeon Dr Karimuddin, and the nursing staff at Royal Jubilee. A celebration of her life will be held on Saturday November 15 at 742 Mann Avenue at 2:30pm. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the Cancer Society or the Kidney Foundation. Jennifer, Jason, and Lauren have not just lost a loving mother and grandmother; they have lost a loving and supportive friend. YOUNG, Emma Kathleen (Kay) nee Zwicker of Victoria and Nanoose Bay, B.C. On November 7, 2008 at her home near Nanoose Bay and in her 89th year, a gentle wind song carried Kay (Mum) from the arms of family to join her husband (Mack) of 70 years on a new journey. Her son (Tony), one sister (Dorothy) and many nieces and friends remain to celebrate her life and her new adventure beyond. Kay was born and raised in Edmonton. She arrived in Victoria prior to the war and married Mack, her high school sweetheart, who was stationed at CFB Esquimalt. Following the war, they moved to North Vancouver to start a family. Kay was a devoted mother and wife yet found the time to have a successful career in the interior decorating business in Vancouver as well as attend to the needs of her parents and close relatives, Seeking a more relaxed lifestyle, they moved to Vancouver Island in 1975 and built their country home (Wind Song) along the shores of Dolphin Bay. Kay enjoyed tending to her gardens, playing golf and bridge, summer parties and family gatherings, spending winter months in the desert and looking after her pussycats. After many years in Nanoose Bay, she returned Victoria to be close to family and continued to garden and play bridge with close friends. Mum visited her beloved Wind Song home frequently and was very happy residing there with her son when she was unexpectedly called to begin her new life, Thank you Mum for the enduring love, care and spirit you have given to your family and friends. You accomplished much good and your wishes will continue to give contentment to many. We are joyful you have made safe passage home to peace, rest and the warm embrace of loved ones. Your presence will always remain and help guide our travels until a heartbeat brings us together again. A special thanks to the doctors and nurses in Victoria, Nanaimo and Parksville who provided quality of life care to Mum over the past year. There will be no service at Kay's request. BRUCE-Joyce Bernice (nee Schachtel) joined the angels peacefully on Wednesday, November 12, 2008 at the age of 58 years. She had her loving husband and children by her side. Joyce is welcomed in heaven by her father Raymond Schachtel. Forever cherishing her memory; husband Mal, her children; Chris (Lehn), Angela (Ryan), Matt & Amanda (Brent), one granddaughter; Presley, mother; Isabel, siblings; Pat (Garry) Zentner, Tony Schachtel, Mike (Brenda) Schachtel, Gabe (Tammie) Schachtel, Maria (Earl) Rudd, Peter (Erika) Schachtel, Bernie (Dean) Lefebvre and Cathy (Paul) Dobni; as well as many nieces and nephews. Joyce will also be forever missed by her large extended family as well as numerous friends. She touched many lives throughout her life with her courage, strength, never-ending affection and generosity. Her devotion and love for her family inspired many others and she will be greatly missed. BURNSIDE-Mrs. Euna L'Roy Burnside, known as Sonny, passed away on November 8, 2008 at Castor, Alberta at the age of 97 years. She was born November 28, 1910 at The Dalles, Oregon. She leaves to mourn her sons: Dennis (Susan) of Castor, AB, Kim (Marilyn) of Moose Jaw, SK, Erik (Arlene) of Dauphin, MB; daughter Gail (Gerry) Abrams of Regina, SK; sister June Forsyth of Burnaby, BC; 9 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren and 4 great great grandchildren; other relatives and friends. She was predeceased by her husband Jack; brothers and sisters: Bob, Larry, Bruce, Thelma, Clarice and Lil. Funeral Services were held at Knox United Church, Castor, Alberta at 1:30 P.M., Wednesday, November 12, 2008 with Rev. Barbara Zimmerman officiating.Organist was Cathy Schaffner. Knox United Church choir was the leader of song. A tribute was given by Granddaughter Sam Sonnenberg and Granddaughter Heather Howe read a Poem for Grandma. Honorary pallbearers were Greg Howe, Dwayne Nagy, Cam Sonnenberg, Gerald Byers, Camille Dezaeyer, Derek Burnside, Todd Burnside and Jason Burnside. And All of her beloved Grandchildren and Great Grandchildren. The interment will take place in Resthaven Memorial Gardens, Moose Jaw SK. Family and friends gathered for a time of fellowship and lunch prepared by the Knox U.C.W. BEVERIDGE, Gary Thomas Born: September 27, 1935 With deep sadness we announce that Gary Beveridge died unexpectedly, late in the evening on November 9, 2008 after a difficult illness. He is survived by his loving wife of 43 years, Margaret, and his two sons Tom (Shirley) and Richard (Erika and Kennedy Rankin). Also mourning his passing are his older sister Gael (Andy Hebenton) and their family. A quiet and reflective man, Gary spent his professional life as an educator and continued to volunteer his time working with children for nearly 10 years after his retirement from the School District in 1999. His passion for helping children was a core part of his being, as was his enduring love for the outdoors. Gary brought us joy with his dry sense of humour and he inspired us with his determination to lead a life focused on human service, even when the physical challenges of his disability made volunteering a significant sacrifice. Our family wishes to extend our thanks to the many doctors, nurses and community care personnel who cared for Gary during his recent hospitalization. Particular gratitude is extended to Dr. Mavis Hollman, Les Hall and the nursing staffs of 6 South and 3 West who offered tremendous patience and support for Gary and our family. IRWIN, Elfrieda (Frieda) Was called Home by her Lord on November 13, 2008 in Victoria, BC. She was predeceased by her husband, Ross in July 2008; her parents, four sisters and one brother. Born on September 7, 1912 in Burstall, Saskatchewan she spent her early years in Saskatchewan later moving to Ontario where she met and married Ross in 1945. Together they lived in cities across Canada and Europe as Ross pursued a Canadian military medical career. She was a proud Canadian and a devoted, lifelong member of the Lutheran church. Frieda is survived by a sister-in-law, Emma Stuhlmiller in Edmonton, Alberta in addition to many nieces, nephews and friends all of whom were very special to her. The family wishes to thank the staff of St. Charles Manor for the care provided to Frieda during the past year. Boutilier, James Everett "Jim", Mr. July 21, 1942 - August 20, 2008, BOUTILIER, James Everett "Jim" - 66, beloved son, husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, cousin, nephew and friend, died on Wednesday, August 20, 2008. Jim was born in Mushaboom and was the younger son of Anna and the late Everett Boutilier. He is survived by his wife, Brenda (Stevens), Cole Harbour; daughters, Susan (Mike Rothenburg), Halifax; and Cindy (Chris MacLean), Stillwater Lake; granddaughters, Anastasia and Genevieve Rothenburg, Halifax; as well as siblings, Eileen Dwyer (Bill), Carbonear, N.L.; Lottie Beaver, Mushaboom; George Boutilier (Jutta), Montreal, Que.; Maryanna Towle (Ed), Seabright; and a large extended family. Jim was a retired lab technologist who was an extremely kind and loving person. He loved the water and was a gifted wood worker and photographer who touched the lives of many. Caines, Otto Gordon, Mr. March 9, 1936 - August 31, 2008 - 72, Lake Echo, passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 31, 2008, after a short but courageous battle with cancer. Born in Burgeo, N.L., he was a son of the late Emmanuel and Sarah Caines. He is survived by his loving wife, Jocelyn; stepsons, Blaine Thurber (Tara) and Chris Thurber, Dartmouth. He will be sadly missed by stepgrandson, Connor; stepgranddaughter, Kyla, and best friend, John. Otto also leaves to mourn sisters, Dulcie Loucks, Victoria; Agnes Engram, Halifax; brothers, Cyril (Mary), Annapolis Royal; Milton (Johanna), Dartmouth. He was predeceased by sisters, Mamie, Violet, Lelia, and Hilda. Otto served with the Canadian Armed Forces (Navy) for 25 years. He worked for several years with the offshore oil industry, followed by working for Penhorn Mall maintenance until his retirement in 1996. Family and friends were first and foremost in Otto's life and he often enjoyed gatherings with music and a little good cheer. His love of the outdoors included fishing and hunting with his many friends at Mooseland. He also enjoyed travelling, wood carving, darts and gardening. Cremation has taken place. Visiting will be held today from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in Atlantic Funeral Home, 771 Main St., Dartmouth. Jacques Raymond Desrochers, 74 years of age, born in Foleyet, Ontario passed away at the beautiful home he had created in Goderich with his soul mate and best friend of 49 years Patricia (nee Train) on August 31, 2008. Devoted son of Leodore and Lorenza (nee Morin) both predeceased. Son-in-law of NeilTrain and Barbara (predeceased). Many walks, treats and much love was shared with his devoted dog Sadie. Loving father, extraordinary friend and mentor to his children; Cheryl (husband Rick), Brian (wife Anna) and Richard (wife Susan). Proud Grandpa and Poppa of Jamie, Jennifer, Stacy (spouse Kyle), Ashley, Jessica, Michael and great grandpa to Deson. Many wonderful days hunting and enjoying the land he called “God’s Country” at the family camp in Foleyet were spent with his brother Bob (wife Vivian), Gertrude (spouse Billy), Henriette (husband Karl), and Cecile (husband Rick). Countless great times were shared with his brother-in-laws Bill (wife Denise), Neil Train Jr., Jim (predeceased), John (wife Mena), Bob, and David. Dyck, Henry Walter, Mr. February 1, 1942 - August 19, 2008 Henry Walter Dyck passed away Tuesday, August 19, 2008 at St. Paul’s Hospital after battling ALS (Lou Gherig Disease). Henry is survived by his daughters, Heather Burkowski (friend Kip Harder), Carmen Dyck (Keith Jorgenson); grandchildren, Nadia Burkowski, Anaya Burkowski, Frances Jorgenson, Lily Jorgenson; sister, Elsie Reimer (Clarence); brother, Jake Dyck; and sister in law, Catherine Dyck. He was predeceased by his wife, Donna Dyck; parents, Cornelius and Helena (nee Ens) Dyck; and brothers, Abe Dyck and Bill Dyck. Henry worked as an electrician and during weekends and evenings he tirelessly worked on their beloved farm. In his retirement he kept busy attending auctions and restoring his antique tractors. Robinson, Catharine "Kitty" Inch, Mrs. November 4, 1909 - August 24, 2008, After a long life, well lived. Kitty Robinson died on 24 August 2008. She was born in 1909 to Frederick and Margaret Ford Inch, and was predeceased by her sisters Louise (Ayres), Nell (Corner) and Violet (Hill) and by her brothers Frederick, James and Albert Inch. Her brother William Inch (Shirley) survives her. Married to Cecil William Robinson Q.C. who died in 1988, Kitty together with Cecil raised three children, Patricia Roman (Ted) lives in Montreal; Michael (Andrea Poole) in Toronto; and Penny Woodcock in Calgary. Kitty enjoyed her six grandchildren: Jennifer Roman Briere (Benoit), Paul Roman (Lori Ann Simpson), Alexandra Robinson Fawcett (Benjamin), Laura Robinson White (Byron), Caroline Poole, and Scott Woodcock (Anna Mason). She also delighted in her five great-grandchildren: Nicolas and Cedric Briere, Emily and Katherine Roman and Josephine Mason- Woodcock. She will be missed by her family who admired her, loved her, and will treasure her memory. Kitty contributed to many organizations during her lifetime, including the Hamilton Art Gallery, Hamilton Foundation, Hamilton Golf and Country Club, Thistle Club, Cedar Springs Ski Club, Big Sisters, Garden Club and Ballet Bridge. She skied, played tennis and golfed well into her senior years. In addition, she read voraciously, completed cryptic crosswords, played bridge, attended the theatre and travelled widely. Kitty was a kind and supportive friend to many who will remember her positive attitude, generosity, support in times of trouble, great style sense and brilliant smile. Her Christian faith sustained her through the many trials of her last years, and her family is grateful for care provided at Highgate Retirement Home and subsequently at The Meadows, Ancaster. Family and friends are invited to celebrate Kitty's life in a Service of Remembrance at Central Presbyterian Church, 165 Charlton Avenue West, Hamilton L8P 2C8 on Thursday, 28 August at 2:00 p.m., with a reception following the service. Paul was born in Astrup, Denmark on October 7, 1922 to Axel and Emilie Iversen. He immigrated to Canada in 1950 with his brother Aage. They crossed Canada by car in 1951 to Calgary. Paul began his own cement finishing business in 1954. He married Bella Larsen in November 1953. Paul is survived by his wife, Bella; four sons, Axsel (Sharon), Niels (Linda), Ken (Moira) and Bruce (Brenda); three daughters, Anne (Matt) Hornberger, Karen (Don) Hight and Judy (Bob) Ross; 15 grandchildren, Craig, Holly, Melanie (Scott), Paul, Andrea (Dan), Carla, Jeffrey, Curtis, Corrine (Fraser), Elysia, Kyle, Daniel, Jennifer, Colleen and Brett; four great grandchildren, Ben, Sam, Olivia and Thomas; as well as brother Aage (Stinne) and two nephews in Olds, AB; Karl Emil, Evald (Eva), Karin (Ernst) and all his nieces and nephews in Denmark; sister-in-law Ellen (Gordon), and brothers-in-law Niels (Barb) and Bob (Joan). Paul will be missed by all. He was predeceased by his parents, brother Christian, and sisters, Ella, Inga and Bitten of Denmark. Paul moved to Dana Village in 1996 where he enjoyed card playing and games with his friends. Our heartfelt thanks to all the staff at the Agape Manor Hospice. A Celebration of Paul’s Life will be held at the Chapel of Mountain View Funeral Home on Saturday, September 6, 2008 at 10:00 am. Jesperson, Douglas Gordon, Mr. July 14, 1935 - August 30, 2008 Died suddenly at Minoru Residence. He was born and raised in Vancouver, BC. As a young man he was a very talented soccer and lacrosse player. As an adult he was a very good and hardworking gas fitter. Doug was also an avid golfer. Doug is predeceased by his first wife and mother of his six children, his son Dougie, father Jack, mother Helen, brother Garry and sister Ruth. Doug will be remembered and missed by his wife Audienne and step children Hal, Debbie and Lorne, his children Deborah (Pete), Dean (Darrelle), Darlene (Cam), Donna, Darren (Beth), his grandchildren Heather, Jaime, Megan, Josh, Emily, Nathan, Joanna, Talya, Janaya and Samantha, family friends Robert, Susan and many other friends and nieces and nephews. Elizabeth of Hungary, passed away peacefully on the evening of August 23, 2008 at Hotel Dieu Grace Hospital. A mother, grandma, sister and aunt will be sadly missed by all. Lena was born on a homestead in Prud’homme, SK and lived an active and independent life in her own home until her passing. We will miss your loving care, strength and determination. Lena is predeceased by her husband, Fred; and daughters, Elizabeth Tessier and Bernadette Coonie. McHugh, Cody Tubbs, Mr. November 29, 1985 - August 29, 2008 - 22, Halifax, died tragically on Friday, August 29, 2008. Born in Edmonton, Alta., he was a son of Anne (Hotte) McHugh (Mike Tibbetts) and Steve McHugh (Dawn Holmans). Besides his parents he is survived by his older brother, Nathan McHugh (Stephanie Clair), and his younger sister, Quinn McHugh. Special mention of Cody's longtime girlfriend, Alexa Lafreniere, as she loved him greatly and will miss him dearly. He is also survived by his paternal grandmother, Cecilia McHugh (Jack Coughlan), Edmonton, Alta., and maternal grandmother, Marie Claire Hotte, Montreal, Que. He was predeceased by his grandfathers, Bernard McHugh and Armand Hotte. As well, he will be missed by many aunts, uncles and cousins from across the country. Cody was living his dream of working outdoors, enjoying nature and fulfilling one of his lifelong passions. He was in his second year of Eco-Tourism, finishing his Diploma at NSCC. While pursuing his education, his interests included camping, biking, motorcycling, paintball, parachuting, tidal bore rafting, rock climbing, and he was an avid video gamer. Cody enjoyed sharing his excitement of adventure with others. Visitation will be held in Atlantic Funeral Home, 771 Main St., Dartmouth, today from 7-9 p.m. Mass will be held in St. Vincent de Paul Roman Catholic Church, Flying Cloud Drive, Dartmouth on Wednesday, September 3, at 11 a.m. Reception will follow in the funeral home reception center. Power, Kathleen Agnes "Kay", Mrs. January 21, 1926 - August 31, 2008 - 82, of Lower Sackville, passed away peacefully August 31, 2008, in Northwood Centre. This very special and treasured lady, known to all that were blessed to know her as simply "Nanny Kay", passed from our world into the next. Born in Newcastle, N.B., she was a daughter of the late Joseph and Alma (Hollett) Mitchell. Kay was predeceased by the love of her life, Victor Clarence Power; brothers, Nicholas and George; sisters, Helen Blackler, Theresa McGrath and Jenny Doucette. In her 82 years with us she was the proud mother of five beautiful children; sons, Clarence (Jean), Bible Hill; Robert (Gail), Gailford, Ont.; Phillip (Terry), South Rawdon; daughters, Rose (Don) Fox, Lower Sackville; Holly (Jim) Erwin, Lower Sackville. She was the foster mother of Marilyn Jollimore, Hants County; Michael Slaunwhite, Halifax. Kay was also the grandmother of 13 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. Cremation has taken place under the direction of Atlantic Funeral Home, 125 Sackville Dr., Lower Sackville. Nielsen, Kim Harold Joseph, Mr. June 1, 1956 - August 22, 2008, Kim Harold Joseph NIELSEN was born on June 1, 1956 in Regina and passed away peacefully on Friday, August 22, 2008 at the Pasqua Hospital in Regina. Kim leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife Wynese; son Tyler; daughters Danna and Alyssa; as well as extended family and friends. Kim worked at Ideal Computer Environments and Neil Squires Foundation as a Computer Accessor. He furthered his education at CDI College where he graduated and received an award of excellence and became a teacher there. Kim, was later employed at Ranch Erhlo and lastly at Mosaic Potash Corp. Leisure time for Kim was spent camping with family and friends. He was an active member of South Sask. Mountain Bike Club and in winter he would cross country ski – all with his life long friend Mike Bazinnet. The family would like to thank Dr. K. Kumar, Palliative Care and 3B Oncology Ward at the Pasqua Hospital and Dr. Joanne McLeod for their care and compassion given to Kim and his family. A Service to Celebrate Kim’s Life was held at Regina Funeral Home, Hwy #1 East, Regina, SK on Friday. August 29, 2008 at 2:30 pm.
