COOPER, John Anthony Shaftsbury - Passed away peacefully at Cedarville Lodge, Keswick on Monday November 10th, 2008 in his 100th year. John was predeceased by Hilda, his loving wife of 71 years. He will be deeply missed by his proud sons David (Lillian) and Michael (Elaine). He was the loved Papa of Jeannine Branion (Trevor), Heath Cooper, Caren Cooper and Jennifer Tremain (Chris) and great-grandchildren Emma, Matthew and Nicholas. Also missed by an extended family (Elaine) of grandchildren, Alex Young (Laura), Deena Dowse (Tim), Shawna Schlosser (Rob) and great-grandchildren Shayla, Cole, Alexander, Brooklyn and Rhyen. Special uncle to Don and Brenda Cooper. Fondly remembered by many wonderful friends! John was born in Toronto and raised in Weston and found a life long partner with Hilda, whom he wed April 17, 1937 at St. George on-the-Hill, Islington. He always enjoyed sports having played competitively in football, tennis, hockey, baseball, lacrosse and golf. Following a 35 year business career with Canadian General Electric, he and Hilda had a long and enjoyable retirement in Bala, Sandycove Acres and Keswick. John was also an avid gardener and during retirement became an accomplished artist. John will be best remembered for his gentlemanly and easy going manner, great sense of humour and quick wit. A special thanks to his loving caregivers at Cedarvale Lodge for providing ongoing and outstanding comfort and support. In keeping with John and Hild's request no funeral will be held. MANLEY, Stephen (Stan) - passed away November 12, 2008 at Riverview Gardens Chatham in his 86th year. Beloved husband and best friend for 62 years to Olive. WATSON, Les (John Leslie) April 25, 1946 - November 13, 2008 Les Watson, of Calgary, passed away peacefully on Thursday, November 13, 2008, surrounded by his family at the Rockyview General Hospital, at the age of 62 years. Les was born on April 25, 1946 in Vancouver, BC. He attended the University of British Columbia, graduating with honours in geology. Les began working in the oil and gas industry in Calgary, enjoying a successful forty year career. The industry was his life's passion, and Les loved the challenges and the colleagues he befriended over the years. He was revered by his staff as the "ultimate explorationist". Les also loved the outdoors, and would spend countless hours, tending to his garden. He especially loved to be with his family, and his grandchildren. A loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather and friend, Les will be dearly missed by all those who knew him. Les is survived by his loving wife, Carol; son and daughter-in-law, Cameron and Jennifer Watson; daughter and son-in-law, Tiffany and David Gilbey; grandchildren, Alex (six) and Amelia (five) Watson and Abigail (one) Gilbey. Loving father of Catherine Manganello of Dorchester, Donna Wahlberg of Hubbardston, Charlie Larkin of Newport, Ore.; Carol Larkin of Casco, Me.; David Larkin of Squantum, and Eileen Earley of Smyrna, Ga. Brother of Desmond Larkin of Farmington, P.E.I.; Eileen Kingsbury of Elmira, N.Y., and the late A.J. Larkin, Paul Larkin, Muriel Larkin and Gwen Druhan. Also lovingly survived by many grandchildren. Mr. Larkin worked as a carpenter for Joe McIsaac Construction in Quincy for many years and helped found Larkin Hathaway, Inc. Sheet Metal Contractors in Bridgewater in 1989 where he worked until 2007. He enjoyed collecting baseball caps and violins which he also restored. Mr. Larkin and his family enjoyed summering in Cable Head, Prince Edward Island, Canada. ERIKSEN, Maria K. January 13, 1939 - November 13, 2008 Maria Eriksen, of Calgary, passed away on Thursday, November 13, 2008 at the age of 69 years. After high school, Maria was educated as a nurse and received her RN from the Galt School of Nursing in Lethbridge. Soon after, she graduated from the University of Calgary with a BA. and a MA. in psychology. She began work as a psychologist which she did for the rest of her life. Along the way, she attained a PhD in psychology. Maria will be best remembered for her committed leadership regarding women's issues from the 1970's on. Later, this leadership was expanded to establish a micro loan fund for educated immigrants. For her efforts to change the "status quo" she received many awards and honours including an honorary doctorate from the U of C, the Governor General's Persons Award, and the Order of Canada. Maria's passion in life was the mountains, she spent time at her most favourite place, Lake O'Hara, for over thirty consecutive years. Maria is survived by her two brothers, Ivan (Jean) and Dennis (Lorraine); sister Myrtle (Alex); as well as her nieces and nephews. Maria was predeceased by her husband, Harold Hanen, in 2000. BONNER, George has passed away unexpectedly at the Royal Jubilee Hospital on Wednesday, November 5. Dad was 82 years old. He was born in Kimberley, BC and spent most of his adult life in Victoria. Dad worked for Woodward's, before Mayfair became a shopping center and enjoyed golfing at Uplands more than any other activity. He had many stories of the guys he played with, David, Tony, Ray and his other golfing mates. Those connections were a big important part of his life. He liked joking with the waitresses and really loved the fish and chips at Uplands. He still paid for his Uplands golf membership for the 10 years he lived in Calgary because he knew he would come home to Victoria someday. He was a talented puzzle-solver and enjoyed his solitude, solving Sudoku puzzles and endlessly reading in his later years. He was an accomplished, meticulous, patient gardener, manicuring his yard in a lovely sculptured way, enticing many students from UVic to come into the yard and take photographs. Dad was a very kind, teasing and generous man. He had a twinkle in those beautiful blue eyes up until his last day. After the death of his infant son Michael in 1953, his loving wife Taffy in 1989, his son in law Ben Schmidt in 1993, and his quirky dog Bumpy in 1985, George is lovingly survived by his three daughters, Phoebe Edmiston, Jane Schmidt-Patopea, Belle Bonner and their partners Al Eddy, Jerry Patopea and Paul Pellow. As well as grandsons Lande and Dylan Edmiston and their partners Laurelle Edmiston and Gillian Hillerud, greatgrandson Kyan Edmiston and "himself" Maverick. Nieces, nephew and other relatives in BC and Ontario. A private memorial will be held by the immediate family. MIX, Emmanuel (Manny/Tom) August 2, 1917 - November 10, 2008 Manny, the middle of five children and the only son was born to Jacob and Christine Mix in Calgary, Alberta on August 2, 1917. He passed away quietly after a short stay at the Bevan Lodge in Abbotsford on November 10, 2008 at the age of 91. Manny was predeceased by his loving Wife, Helena, his parents, Jacob and Christine Mix, his sisters Lydia (Henry) Hartung, Freda (Alfred) McKay, Ida (Siyd) Grieg and Ella Mix. He is lovingly survived by his two nephews and three nieces, and their spouses and families. Manny, also nicknamed Tom, was raised in Beiseker Alberta. At the age of twenty-three, on January 2, 1941, he joined the Royal Canadian Army Medical Corps, in Red Deer, Alberta. After basic training at Red Deer, he was sent to Ottawa where he took the First Aid and Nursing Orderly Courses. After being fitted out for action in Camp Borden, ON, he was sent to England and was posted to the first aid center of the Canadian Detention Barracks in London for one year. Later he was transferred to the 12th Light Field Ambulance landing in action in Caen, France at "D Day plus ten". He finished up in the First Aid Station at Koln, Germany for the last two months of his overseas service. He was discharged on March 6, 1946 in Calgary. He worked at the Colonel Belcher Hospital for a year, just long enough to court his beloved wife Helen who was also working there. They got married on July 18, 1947 in the Westbourn Baptist Church, Calgary, Alberta. They moved to Vancouver where he started to work for Marshall Wells for ten years then he worked for the Post Services for twenty-one years until his retirement in December, 1978. Manny and Helen moved to Clearbrook, B.C. in 1981 to live out their retirement years. They both did volunteer work at the Clearbrook Goldenage Society and they continued to be very active in the church until their health wavered. Manny will be remembered for his love of God, his church, his wife, family and friends and for his sense of humour. He showed his love through his unwavering generosity and kindness and warm hospitality. He doted on his nieces and nephews and we are the richer for his love towards us. We will miss him dearly. The family wishes to thank Dr. Milne and his staff, and the Nurses and Care Aides of Bevan Lodge for their kind and professional caring and comfort during his last few months. Joachim (Joe) Huard died suddenly at his home in New Liskeard Tuesday, November 4, 2008 at 89 years of age. Mr. Huard was predeceased by his wife Jeanne D’Arc (née Maillé) in 2005 and his sister Mrs. Rita Ayotte in 1977. He is survived by his daughters Paulette (Howard) of Charlottetown, and Jo-Anne Métivier (Michel), grandchildren Marie Julie (Rainville) and Jean-Marc, great grand-children Skyla and Erik and sister Omerine Laurin of Cornwall, Ontario. Mr. Huard was a veteran of World War Two, serving in Newfoundland. A wonderful father, a kind and loving grandpa, he will be greatly missed by his family and friends in the community. A service of remembrance was held Saturday, November 8 at Sacred Heart Church led by Father Richard Ngoy. Interment was at the New Liskeard Catholic Cemetery.

Ninette Dupuis Following a brief battle with cancer, Ninette Dupuis died at the Temiskaming Hospital on November 10, 2008 at the age of 66. She was born in Kapuskasing on June 16, 1942 to Armand and Juliette Lallier. She had worked as an RPN at the Temiskaming Hospital for nearly 40 years. She loved reading, the outdoors and especially fishing. Mrs. Dupuis was a real people person with a kind heart who loved taking care of others. She took great pride in her work and good care of her patients. She loved her family and was very proud of her grandchildren and she will be missed dearly. Mrs. Dupuis is survived by her loving husband Alex whom she married on July 30, 1960; her children Ronald Dupuis and Doris Dupuis Lemyre of Haileybury; her beloved grandchildren Justin (Kelly), Michel (Shelly) and Tiffany; and her siblings Guy (Rose) Lallier, Lise Wedge-Lallier and Rollande (Roger) Dumais. ERICKSON-Angela Doris Erickson, born May 22, 1963, passed away on November 11, 2008 at the Health Sciences Centre, Winnipeg, Manitoba, after a courageous two and a half year battle with Leukemia. Angela was predeceased by her grandparents: Edmond and Hortense DeBruyne, William and Lorena Erickson and her uncle Emile DeBruyne. Angela's memory lives on with her children: Chris, Pierre, and Nathan, all of Brandon, Manitoba; parents Larry and Loretta Erickson of Brandon; her sister Deborah Erickson (Andrea) of Regina; her brother Michael (Cindy) and their children: Amanda (Matt) their son Hayden, Shawnee and Mikayla, all of Edmonton, Alberta, Lorelei Erickson-Neville (Neal) and their children Tara and Keala, all of Regina. Angela was born in Estevan, Saskatchewan. She left Estevan to pursue her education. After graduation, she had a successful nursing career. She later chose to pursue a degree in nursing and in her last few years obtained what she called her "dream job", as a clinical nursing instructor at Brandon University. A special thanks goes out to Angela's coworkers, friends and students who offered tremendous support to her during her illness. Prayers will be recited at Memories Chapel, 330-18th Street North, Brandon, Manitoba on Friday, November 14, 2008 at 7:00 pm. It is with great sadness that the family announces the death of Rod at his home in Mineville after a courageous battle with cancer. Born in Halifax, he was a son of Doriene (Birks) and the late Cyril Heaton. Rod spent many years employed in Occupational Health and Safety in the offshore oil and gas industry all around the world. He was a dedicated family man who loved music, the Oakland Raiders, and his German Shepherd.
