LARKIN, Wencil Larkin, Wencil of Quincy, November 10, 2008. Beloved husband of 51 years to Ann Larkin. Loving father of Catherine Manganello of Dorchester, Donna Wahlberg of Hubbardston, Charlie Larkin of Newport, Ore.; Carol Larkin of Casco, Me.; David Larkin of Squantum, and Eileen Earley of Smyrna, Ga. Brother of Desmond Larkin of Farmington, P.E.I.; Eileen Kingsbury of Elmira, N.Y., and the late A.J. Larkin, Paul Larkin, Muriel Larkin and Gwen Druhan. Also lovingly survived by many grandchildren. Mr. Larkin worked as a carpenter for Joe McIsaac Construction in Quincy for many years and helped found Larkin Hathaway, Inc. Sheet Metal Contractors in Bridgewater in 1989 where he worked until 2007. He enjoyed collecting baseball caps and violins which he also restored. Mr. Larkin and his family enjoyed summering in Cable Head, Prince Edward Island, Canada. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the visiting hours in the Keohane Funeral Home, 785 Hancock St., Quincy, Wednesday 4-8 p.m. Funeral mass and burial will take place in Canada. Donations in memory of Mr. Larkin may be made to the Alzheimer’s Unit, Marina Bay Skilled Nursing, 2 Seaport Dr., Quincy, Ma. 02171. Mr. Larkin will then be transferred to the Dingwell Funeral Home in Souris, P.E.I., for visiting hours to be held from the Dr. Roddie MacDonald Community Centre in St. Peters Friday from 3 to 7 p.m. and Saturday morning from 9 a.m. until the time of the funeral. Philipenko, Katherine November 8, 1929 - August 31, 2008 It is with great sadness the family of Kay Philipenko announce her passing on Sunday, August 31st, 2008 at the age of 78 years. Mom was born on November 8th, 1929, near Carpentar, SK., to Mike and Mary Kawchuk. She told us many stories of growing up on the family farm and it was amazing how the school moved further away with each telling. As a young woman she moved to British Columbia and worked there for a time before returning to the farm to look after her sick father. She met and later married her husband Orest in 1950. They then moved to Saskatoon to raise their family and have remained there since. Mom was employed at St. Paul’s Hospital for many years until her retirement. She loved to garden and many would pass the house to admire her and Dad’s efforts. Mom would always try to send us home with a batch of fresh vegetables and her wonderful perogies and cabbage rolls. She is survived and lovingly remembered by her husband Orest; daughters Judy LaBrash, Iris (Monty) Meikle; son Dan (Linda); grandchildren Colette (Jim) O’Brien, Tammy Coakwell (Trevor Balzer) and Lee Philipenko (Michelle Drew); sisters Janet McCabe, Doris (Russell) Billings, Ann Kachur, Sophie (Bud) Reed, Betty Stevens; brothers John (Ann) Kawchuk, Matt (Anne) Kawchuk; great aunt Sophie Shinkaruk; brother-in-law Pete (Elsie) Philipenko; sister-in-law Theresa Kamineski; numerous nieces and nephews. Prayers will be on Thursday, September 4th, 2008 at 7:30 p.m. and the Divine Liturgy on Friday, September 5th, 2008 at 10:00 a.m. Both services will be held at St. George’s Ukrainian Catholic Cathedral (214 Avenue M South, Saskatoon, SK) celebrated by Rt. Rev. Vladimir Mudri and Rt. Rev. Walter Kostiuk. Interment will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens. We wish to thank Aunt Janet and Uncle John for their great support these past few years. LANGLOIS, Paul - On November 10th, 2008 at 9:15 p.m., a great man passed away from us! Mr. Joseph Paul Etienne Langlois had a big heart full of love for us all but unfortunately it failed on this day. Mr. Langlois leaves behind a loving wife Anna Lynch Langlois and son Paul Jr. Langlois. He also leaves a daughter Juanita Mallabar and grandson Jesse. His son Eddy and wife Linda Langlois, son's Roger and Tommy Langlois, daughter Laura and husband Glen Garrod, a sister Georgette Labreche. He leaves behind several grandkids, Jimmy, Cindi, Mandy, Jessica, Ashley, Jason, Christine, Jennifer, Terri Lynn, Patrick, Jamie as well as many friends that have been very supportive throughout the years. Mr. Langlois has filled his life with joy and happiness through his love of music, playing several instruments including his favourite the fiddle. Originally from Iroquois Falls near Timmins, Ontario, Paul Langlois was a northern boy who lived up to the true northern expectations, rugged, although gentle, a strong hand shake was always necessary, a stern voice, and a man, whose word, you could always count on. He lived a prosperous life as a father and as a friend he will always be an inspiration to us all. It is truly a loss to all that have had the opportunity to meet such a great individual who shared his talents with us all to enjoy. We'll all miss him more than words can express. He'll always be in our hearts, we'll love him always rest in peace. Marc Cloutier The funeral service for Hearst trucker Marc Cloutier, 67, was held Nov. 7, 2008. He died Nov. 2 at Notre-Dame Hospital from an illness. Born Dec. 6, 1940 in St-Joseph-de-Kamouraska, Québec, he was described by family as a positive, patient, courageous person and self-employed transport driver devoted to his work and family. He was predeceased by his father Gérard in 1975, brothers Bertrand and Gilles Cloutier in 1993 and 2000 respectively, a nephew Pascal Bélanger in 2000, and brother-in-law Bertrand Caron in 1999, He leaves his mother Simone Bélanger of Val-d’Or, Qué., wife Louiselle Maheux of Hearst, daughter Andréanne Cloutier of Hearst, son Marc-Antoine Cloutier of Hearst, daughter Lisa Henry of Hearst, and a granddaughter Chykeisha and grandson Delroy, both of Hearst. Also surviving are his sisters Mariette (Pierre) Bélanger of Matagami, Qué., Fernande (Gaston) Caron, Françoise (André) Morneau and Nicole Cloutier, all of Val-d’Or, and Sylvie Cloutier of LaSalle, Qué.; brothers Raymond (Micheline) of Amos, Qué, Claude (Francine) of Lebel-sur-Quévillon, Qué., and Jacques (Madeleine) Cloutier of Duparquet, Qué,; sisters-in-law Linda (Maurice Lebel) Maheux of Mattice and Jacinthe (Luc Poulin) Maheux Poulin, all of Hearst; mother-in-law Jeannine Lacasse of Hearst; father-in-law Lucien (Bernadette) Maheux of Smooth Rock Falls; and several nieces and nephews. NICHOLSON, John (Jack) Haines July 28, 1914 November 5, 2008 After 94 years of a full and rewarding life, Jack passed away gently and peacefully surrounded by his loving family. He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Connie, his two sons David (Faye) and Paul, grandchildren Linda, John, Emily and Riley, three great-grandchildren and two greatgreat grandchildren. Born in England, Jack grew up in Montreal, graduating from McGill University in 1937 with a degree in Chemical Engineering, before joining Cominco in Trail, BC. During his 37 years with Cominco, Jack was involved with a number of challenging and instrumental projects. During the war Jack was able to put his chemical engineering skills to work as part of the team that developed a superior chemical formula for propelling the large calibre munitions used by Allied warships. He also was involved in Cominco's contribution to the top-secret Manhattan Project, which utilized Trail's extensive hydro-electric capacity to produce heavy water for the development of the first atomic bomb. After the war, he worked developing semi-conductors which became the first computer chips. In later years he held senior management positions with the company before retiring in 1974. On retirement, Jack fulfilled his dream of tropical beaches when he and Connie moved to Maui. They bought a house on the slopes of Mt. Haleakala, where hiking through the world-famous crater was for him an aweinspiring experience. He spent many happy hours tending his orchard of tropical fruit trees. They lived there for 14 years before settling in Victoria. An ardent outdoorsman Jack was a great skier and loved hiking the mountains around his beloved Kootenays. He helped build a log cabin in the mountains above Rossland, and later spent hundreds of hours of volunteer time developing the Red Mountain ski area. He was involved in the Scouting movement, becoming a King's Scout, and later the District Commissioner of Scouting in the West Kootenays. He was a skilled hockey player and spent hours coaching young players in Trail Minor Hockey. Summer days would often find Jack building rock walls to keep his riverfront back garden safe from the floodwaters of the Columbia River. A strong swimmer, Jack loved swimming with Connie and his family in the Columbia and in the surf on Maui. Jack was a gentle and peaceful man, and touched all those who came in contact with him for his quiet, softspoken demeanor and kindness. A remembrance ceremony for Jack is being held Sunday, November 16 at 2 pm at McMorran's Beach House, 5109 Cordova Bay Road. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Mt. It is with heartfelt sorrow that we announce the peaceful death of our dear mother, Joanna Xuereb Farrugia, at the age of one hundred and two on August 29, 2008. Cherished and beloved wife of the late Anthony Farrugia. Mother of fifteen children, seven of whom are deceased, including Joseph, Sylvio, Louis, Carmen and her eldest son Joe and his wife Lillian. She will be lovingly remembered by her remaining children, Gladys (Tony Farrugia), Doris (Steve Vogtle), Vivian (Joe Castaldi), Isabella (Charlie Cuschieri), Eileen (Doug Newmarch), Tony (Barbara), Victor (Betty) and Daria (Salvatore Fuda). NICOLSON, Hertha Hertha Angela Nicolson, age 76, passed away at her home, The Valleyview Lodge Seniors Centre in Calgary, Alberta. Hertha was born on August 28, 1932 at Swift Current, Saskatchewan and was the eldest daughter of Waldemar and Hedwig Sesula. She received her education at Leonard, Waldeck and the Swift Current Collegiate High School. After completing grade twelve she worked at the Beinfait Hospital in Beinfait, Saskatchewan as a nurse's aid for one year. This led to four years of rigorous training at Ponoka Hospital where she received her Registered Nurses Diploma. Her next job was employment as a Public Health Nurse in the Maple Creek area. In 1957 she married Gordon Nicolson. During their marriage they lived at Medicine Hat, Edmonton, Grimshaw and Ponoka, where Gordon passed away in 1976. Hertha continued to live in Ponoka with her two young children until they were independent. She then relocated to Calgary to live with her daughter for a time and be near her family. She then moved to The Valleyview Lodge Seniors Center until her passing on October 6, 2008. She is survived by her son Trevor (Linda) Thomas; grandchildren Braydyn, Jessica, Tamara, Joshua; her daughter Twilla Nicolson; brothers Rudy (Betty) Sesula, Bernard (Sheila) Sesula; one sister Margarete (Peter) Neufeld and numerous nieces and nephews. Hertha was predeceased by her husband Gordon Nicolson October 18, 1976; her father Waldemar Sesula December 21, 1986; her mother Hedwig Sesula February 29, 2004; brother Wilhelm Sesula January 25, 1975 and brother-in-law Larry Loose January 5, 1995. Throughout her lifetime Hertha enjoyed many hobbies and special interests, which include quilting, hiking, taxidermy, gardening, sewing, needlepoint and writing poetry. She also enjoyed tea and coffee and visiting with friends and neighbors. Funeral Services will be held on Monday, November 17, at 3:00 p.m. from the Foster's Garden Chapel, 3220 - 4 Street N.W., Calgary (Telephone 403-297-0888). HALLIWELL, Walter Alex September 27, 1920 - November 10, 2008 Walter Alex Halliwell passed away in Invermere, B.C. of prostate cancer. His loving wife "Onie" predeceased him in December of 1999. Joachim (Joe) Huard died suddenly at his home in New Liskeard Tuesday, November 4, 2008 at 89 years of age. Mr. Huard was predeceased by his wife Jeanne D’Arc (née Maillé) in 2005 and his sister Mrs. Rita Ayotte in 1977. He is survived by his daughters Paulette (Howard) of Charlottetown, and Jo-Anne Métivier (Michel), grandchildren Marie Julie (Rainville) and Jean-Marc, great grand-children Skyla and Erik and sister Omerine Laurin of Cornwall, Ontario. Mr. Huard was a veteran of World War Two, serving in Newfoundland. A wonderful father, a kind and loving grandpa, he will be greatly missed by his family and friends in the community. A service of remembrance was held Saturday, November 8 at Sacred Heart Church led by Father Richard Ngoy. Interment was at the New Liskeard Catholic Cemetery.
