ROCHEFORT, Alice (nee Sharkey) - In loving memory of Alice Rochefort (nee Sharkey), 76 years, who passed away at Pioneer Manor on Tuesday, November 11, 2008. Jim was a Lifetime Elder and Trustee of Zion (St. Andrew's) United Church. Jim was a proud graduate of Ontario Agricultural College, Guelph in 1949. He was a former President of the Brant County Cattleman's Association, the Brant County Soil and Crop Association, the Farm Management Association and the Brant County Plowman's Association. Jim was a former director of the Paris Agricultural Society, a 50 year member of the Brant Curling Club and member of the 500 Card Club. Jim was an avid supporter of many hockey and lacrosse teams and enjoyed many years of travelling and summers at Bay Lake. The family expresses sincere thanks to the caring staff of Versa Care. ALLEN, Lilian (nee Robb) - It is with sadness that our family announces the death of Lilian Allen (nee Robb) on Friday, October 31, 2008 in her 89th year. She passed away peacefully at Lake Country Lodge and Manor in Lake Country, British Columbia. Lilian was born in Cromarty, Scotland, came to Canada at the age of 3 with her family and settled in Chippawa, Ontario. At the age of 21, she married Charles Arthur Allen, of Chippawa, who was the love of her life. Lilian was a dedicated homemaker and mother of three. In 1964, after the sudden death of her husband, she returned to school and became a high school teacher for many years. Once retired, Lilian enjoyed her many hobbies, traveling and visiting with family and friends. Lilian was predeceased by her loving husband, Charles, brothers Terry and Alex Robb and sister, Florence Menzies. She is survived by her sister; Isobelle (Doug) Mann; her children; Lilian/Skip (Brian) Schisler, Chuck/Bud Allen, and Brenda Paul (partner Myron Keckalo); her grandchildren; Tracy (Bob) Bartley, Brian Todd (Mary) Schisler and Wendy Paul; her great grandchildren, Madison and Mackenzie Schisler; and her sisters-in-law, Joan (Bob) Allen and Elizabeth (Larry) Allen, who was also her dearest friend. The family wishes to thank everyone who cared for, watched over and prayed for Lilian and we know she is now with her better angels!! A Memorial Service and interment will be held at Holy Trinity Anglican Church, 7820 Portage Road, Niagara Falls, Ontario, on November 29th, 2008 at 11 AM. LAWLEY, Phyllis Margaret - of Oliphant, born April 25, 1934 in Glace Bay, Nova Scotia passed quietly at Wiarton Hospital on November 11, 2008. Phyllis graduated from the Royal Victoria School of Nursing in 1955 always keeping in touch with many fellow grads and friends. Phyllis nursed for a time in Summerside PEI before moving to Toronto to nurse at Doctors Hospital. In 1961 Phyllis joined Crown Life where she was the first woman elected to the position of Assistant Superintendent, Individual Health Underwriting. By this time Phyllis had been coming to Oliphant enjoying all the splendors that the Bruce has to offer. She loved to boat, hike, canoe, swim and be with friends. After leaving Crown Life, Phyllis was a successful Realtor in Toronto until she decided to take an early retirement and live permanently in Oliphant. That is when she moved into and renovated her beautiful home 'Shakewell' on the shores of Lake Huron. Friends gathered for many a musical evening with Phyllis on piano and the ukulelies for backup. Phyllis always found joy in the beauty of the Peninsula. She moved to Limpert Lodge, Wiarton in 2006 where she continued to enjoy life with friends, her Euchre group and buzz around town on her red scooter. Phyllis will be missed by her sister Kathleen Love of Calgary, Alberta and brother Gordon Lawley (Mary) of Halifax, Nova Scotia. She was the cherished Aunt of Kathy MacKenzie (Bruce) and Jim Love of Calgary, Alberta, Nancy McCauley (Paul) of Hamilton and Jim Lawley (Andrea), Ross Lawley and Jeff Lawley (Shelley) all of Halifax, Nova Scotia. She will be forever remembered by her Bruce Peninsula 'family of friends'. Phyllis was predeceased by her parents Janet (Webster) and Dr. James Lawley. Heartfelt thanks to the nursing staff of Wiarton Hospital for their kindness, competency and good humour. In respect of Phyllis' wishes, cremation has taken place. BOYLE , REMY RAY entered into the Lord's presence at the age of 87, on Saturday, November 1st, 2008 in Melbourne, Florida. As she dictated: "Born in Innsbruck, Austria. Lived in France, England, Vancouver, NYC, Montreal and Ottawa. Was a very private person and led an adventurous life. Instead of flowers, remember an old friend." Eric was born and raised in Glasgow, Scotland. He moved to Montreal, Quebec and then a few years later, in 1976, he moved to Calgary. He married Margaret Winton in 1961. Joan is survived by her husband of sixty-three years Allan Card, her daughters Gail (Pat) Tkaczyk, Lynne (Phil) Dupont and her son Lee Card. GROVES, Barbara Louise (Meema) (nee Walton) August 13, 1942 - November 2, 2008 Barbara died suddenly after bravely battling a recent onset of kidney disease. She was the loving mother of Leslie Dickie (Trevor) and Stephen Groves (Amber) and grandmother to Ryan, Meagan, Cami, Nathan, and Morgan. She will be missed by her brother Jim Johnson (Patti) and sister Joan Stretch (Stan) and their families, as well as the Walton family and her former husband and friend Terry. Barb graduated from the Edmonton General Hospital as a nurse. Her career path eventually led her into social work where she found her passion in working with the aboriginal people in and around Calgary. She will be remembered by many colleagues, clients, and friends for her dedication and mentorship in working to establish many of the programs offered through the Aboriginal Mental Health Unit at the Elbow River Healing Lodge. She cherished her role as a member of the Aboriginal Community Health Council and associated groups. Reading and learning about history and other cultures were among her favourite pastimes. She had a special way of reading that was deep and intuitive and traveled the world through the books she read and courses she took. She fulfilled a dream by taking her recent trip to Syria and Jordan and had been planning to depart on an Egyptian adventure that unfortunately had to be cancelled due to the onset of her illness. Barb's sense of humour was ever present and eclectic. She could laugh at anything, and usually did. She really enjoyed watching sports, and all activities that her grandchildren were participating in. Barbara always paid attention to life. Anyone who came into her world, however brief the encounter, was regarded as a friend due to her ability to see good things in everyone. Her caring thoughtful ways will be greatly missed by all and will always be in our hearts. LAMONT, Hamilton Edgar Hamilton Edgar Lamont, aged 93 years, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family at the Chinook Care Centre on Friday, October 24, 2008. Edgar will be fondly remembered by his wife Margaret, sons Andrew, John (Dawn), daughters Deborah (Robbin) Bell, Karen (Keith) Ochab, grandchildren and great-grandchildren all of Calgary, his sister Alberta Greidanus of Edmonton and numerous nieces and nephews. SILER, A.L. "Bud" A.L. Bud Siler of Wetaskiwin, formerly of Champion, Alberta died peacefully, on November 11, 2008, following surgery. He is lovingly remembered by his wife and soulmate of sixty-one years, Anne; children, Richard (Star) of U.A.E., Don (Suzan) of Fitzroy Harbour, ON, Donna Siler of Wetaskiwin, Gaie (Jay) Goin of Millet, Marge (Dave) Leavey of Airdrie and special family, Bill, Helen and Deirdre. Bud will live on through his grandchildren, Nathan (Jamie), Kyle, Chelsea, Caryn (Dan), Sarah and Laura and his great-grandson, Silas. He is also survived by his sister, Irene Erdman and in-laws, Jim and Audrey, George and Racille; his extended family and numerous nieces and nephews. Bud was predeceased by his parents, Elbert and Bessie Siler and sister, June Burke. Bud proudly served in the 69th Transport of the Canadian Army in WWII in France and Belgium. As an avid sportsman, outdoors man and lifelong Lions Club member, Bud knew and enjoyed the friendship of everyone he met. He inherited a love of baseball from his father and as a pitcher, was known throughout southern Alberta. He was a great storyteller and an even better listener. His dedication to his family, friends and community was lived out through all his actions. Followes, Willa May, Baby September 26, 2008 - August 21, 2008, Although Willa May Followes was born earlier than expected to parents Kathleen Alison Bush and David Thomas Followes, she was healthy, vibrant, and beautiful, and arrived with her own personality. She made it easy for us to fall deeply in love with her. On August 21st, after beating many odds linked to her early arrival, Willa May succumbed to her only weakness, her premature immune system. Her body could not fight off meningitis, but her heart was strong enough to hold on for many hours and give her family time to hold her, talk to her, and see her off. In her short 26-day life, she changed our lives forever. She made us a family and made us as her parents, realize our full potential and direction in life. We will never be the same without her and are so sorry that she never had the chance to come and see her home and meet her dogs Mathilda and Wellington and Cat Crunchie, but we will always, always cherish the 26 days we were together - 26 days of feeding her, changing her, holding her, talking to her, loving her, and learning from her. She will always be our daughter and we will always be her parents. Holland, Aubrey Douglas, Mr. - August 30, 2008 age 55, of Calgary, Alberta and formerly of Amherst, N.S. passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family at the Peter Lougheed Hospital, Calgary on August 30, 2008 after a lengthy battle with cancer. Born in Amherst, he was a son of Anita (Cormier) Holland of Amherst and the late Stanley Holland. Aubrey was recently employed with National Fast Freight in Calgary and formerly with the Amherst Cemetery. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren Ashley, Amber and Tyler. Aubrey enjoyed bowling, softball and playing cards. He is survived by his wife the former Doreen Berry, daughter Anita (Greg) of Comox, B.C., sons Aubrey (Tanya) and Aaron (Tanya) both of Calgary, Alberta, granddaughters Ashley and Amber and grandson Tyler all of Calgary, Alberta. Besides his mother, Aubrey is survived by sisters Helen (Bev) of Enfield, N.S., Ann Marie (Ray) of Courtney, B.C. and Mary (Charlie) of Newtown, N.B., brothers Joe (Jean) of Amherst, Stanley Jr. (Marg) of Westville, N.S. and Frank (Laura) of Amherst as well as several nieces and nephews. Kelland, Kenneth "Ken" Walter, Mr. November 7, 1922 - August 31, 2008 Kenneth W. Kelland passed away peacefully with his family by his side on Sunday, August 31, 2008 at the age of 85 years. Pasitney, Annie, Mrs. September 30, 1922 - August 22, 2008, Annie, age 85 years of St. Volodymyr Villa, Saskatoon, SK passed away at St. Paul’s Hospital on Friday, August 22, 2008. Annie was born in Sutherland, Saskatchewan September 30, 1922, where she grew up and attended Sutherland School. She met and married her husband, John in 1938 thus moving to the farm in Rama, Saskatchewan. She encountered the hardships on the farm raising three sons by herself during the time of the war while John served. This was where she learned how to cook a meal from nothing. In 1948 she moved back to Sutherland where she lived with John on Central Avenue raising her family until October 1, 2000. Her next move was to the wonderful staff and residents at St. Volodymyr Villa. The family can’t thank them enough. Her five sons were the heart of her life. She never lost her way in loyalty, commitment and love. She was a protector to all. There are absolutely no words that can describe the utmost love that she carried. The love of God in her brought everybody towards her to be her friend and companion. She will never be forgotten. She is survived by her sons, Oscar (Joan) of Port Alberni, BC, Bob (Pam) of Edmonton, AB, Jerry (Judy) of Kelowna, BC, Dave (Debbie) of Saskatoon, SK, Don (Nan) of Thailand; thirteen grandchildren; nineteen great grandchildren; one sister, Rose Thomas of Saskatoon, SK; one brother, John (Nellie) Koshman of Saskatoon, SK, one sister in law, Helen Koshman; and numerous nieces and nephews. LANG, Frank Joseph January 22, 1947 - August 19, 2008, age 61, of Halifax, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, August 19th, 2008, in the Palliative Care Unit, V.G. Site, Halifax, with his wife and son at his side, after a courageous battle with cancer. Born on January 22nd, 1947, in Halifax, Nova Scotia, he was the son of Rita Lorraine (Schubert) Lang, Halifax, and the late Adolph Lang. Frank was employed by Alweather Windows and Doors Ltd. Besides his mother, Frank will be sadly missed by his wife of 22 years, Donna Marie (Bonner); son, Matthew (Heather); brother, Fred (Grace), St. Catharine's, Ontario; sister, Sandra Kline, Halifax. He was an honorary "Grampie" to great nephews, Raymond, Alexander and Brendan Kline; also surviving are several nieces, nephews, and a special friend who was like a son, Gregor Knapp, Germany. He was predeceased by his father, Adolph Lang; brother-in-law, Raymond Kline; and a niece, Krista Kline. Family members would like to extend a special thanks to the Palliative Care Unit, for their care and compassion given to Frank and all his family.
