Euclide Léveillé, following a brave battle with cancer, died at St. Joseph’s Health Centre in Hamilton on November 6, 2008 surrounded by his loving family. He was 69. He was born May 2, 1939 in Armstrong Township to Ozias and Anna (née Matteau) Léveillé. He lived in North Cobalt and had worked as a Heavy Equipment Operator for Miller Paving. Mr. Leveille was a man who loved to keep busy cutting firewood and repairing small engines. He loved the outdoors and fishing but his greatest love was his family. Mr. Leveille was predeceased by his parents and his brother Aimé. He is survived by his loving and caring wife Deborah whom he married 45 years ago on April 27, 1963; by his children Denis (Sylvie Chartrand) of New Liskeard, Carole (Candice) Léveillé of Belleville, Roger (Tammy Godden) Léveillé of St. Charles and André (Sherry) Léveillé of Coniston; grandchildren Steffany and Jason Léveillé, Matthew Léveillé and Brittany Boileau, Hayley and Caleb Léveillé; and siblings Arthur, Eugène, Jules, Jean-Paul, Eugénie Deshaies, Léonie St. Amour and Dora Ethier. The funeral service was held at the Buffam Leveille Funeral Home on November 9. Pastor Fred Knutson officiated. Interment will take place at Mount Pleasant Cemetery in Haileybury. ERASMUS, Barbara Joan (born Dwyer) 1933 2008 Barbara, who so greatly loved her family and was so greatly loved by her family, passed peacefully into the night on November 6, 2008, and has entered eternity. Barbara was the beloved wife of Justus, her first love and her husband for fifty-five wonderful years. She was the adored mother of Stephen, Gavin, Murray, Susan and David, and her daughters in law Melanie and Helen. The great joy of her later years was her dear and precious grandchildren, Jeff, Andy, Neil, Luke, Mark, Julia and Emily. Barbara was born in Durban, South Africa, the first child of Laurie and Sheila, and was a loving sister to Robin, Les, Dave and Ally. She studied accountancy at the University of Natal where she met and fell in love with Justus. They married and began the adventure of life together. After a rich and fulfilling journey, Barbara and Justus happily enjoyed their final years together in Victoria, nearby their son Murray and his family. Professionally, Barbara's lifetime was characterized by the highest integrity, enduring hard work, great personal dignity and impeccable honesty. She worked tirelessly and became the Financial Director of the Paton Tupper companies where she was surrounded with colleagues who became lifelong friends. In Canada too, she continued to find it very rewarding to assist others with their taxes and financial affairs. Personally, Barbara epitomized that paramount principle of love that it is so much greater to give than to receive. She was a uniquely special person, and her life truly was one of unparallelled giving. Boutilier, James Everett "Jim", Mr. July 21, 1942 - August 20, 2008, BOUTILIER, James Everett "Jim" - 66, beloved son, husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, cousin, nephew and friend, died on Wednesday, August 20, 2008. Jim was born in Mushaboom and was the younger son of Anna and the late Everett Boutilier. He is survived by his wife, Brenda (Stevens), Cole Harbour; daughters, Susan (Mike Rothenburg), Halifax; and Cindy (Chris MacLean), Stillwater Lake; granddaughters, Anastasia and Genevieve Rothenburg, Halifax; as well as siblings, Eileen Dwyer (Bill), Carbonear, N.L.; Lottie Beaver, Mushaboom; George Boutilier (Jutta), Montreal, Que.; Maryanna Towle (Ed), Seabright; and a large extended family. Jim was a retired lab technologist who was an extremely kind and loving person. He loved the water and was a gifted wood worker and photographer who touched the lives of many. Peckenpaugh, Florie (G.G.) Florence July 20, 1916 - August 19, 2008 Florie was born July 20, 1916 in Kinley, SK and passed away on August 19, 2008 while in Saskatoon City Hospital. She will be dearly missed by her family, two daughters, Myrna Gursky, Shirley Gursky; three sons, Dale (Wanda) all of Saskatoon, SK, Arden (Marion) and Harvey (Gina), both of Vancouver, BC; grandchildren, Kim (Carri) Wyatt, Lorrie (Ivan) Olson, Shaun (Doug) Njaa, Kari (Mark) Sollid, Loy (Robert) Gursky, Chad (Lori) Gursky, Steven Peckenpaugh, Tanya (Greg) Zinselmeyer, Leanne (Trevor) Paine; twenty-six great grandchildren and one great great grandson. Surviving are her brother, Jack (Edna) Call and sister, Jean (Carl) Wikberg; as well as several nieces and nephews. Florie was predeceased by her husband, Charles; three sons in law, Howard Wyatt, Don Gursky and Del Gursky; sisters, Vi Marten, Wynne Cowley; and brother, Fred Call. Florie took her schooling in Kinley, SK. She married Charles Peckenpaugh in 1936 and lived in Riley, AB and Wildwood, AB and resided there until 1950, moved to Kinley, then Saskatoon in 1952 where she has since resided. She was a member of Royal Purple. She loved dancing and attended Minus One Dances for many years. She enjoyed bowling, serving as secretary for the league for 20 years. She was an avid sports fan, watching on TV and at sporting events in the area and loved Bingo. Florie loved her family. She cherished the many reuions, which were held in various areas of Saskatchewan, enjoying the laughter and hugs from her many family members. The Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, August 23, 2008 at 10:30 a.m. officiated by Pastor Art Hundeby at Park Funeral Chapel, 311 Third Avenue North, Saskatoon, SK. The interment of Florie’s ashes will take place in Wheatfield Cemetery, Kinley District, SK at a later date.

JOHNSON, Earl - Suddenly at C.E.E. Hospital of Bluewater Health, Petrolia on Wednesday, November 12, 2008. Earl Johnson, 79 years, of Petrolia. Earl will be missed by his wife of 60 years Betty (nee Mitchell), his children Hope and David Springer of Whitechurch, Richard Johnson of Brampton, Larry and Dianne Johnson of Cornwall, Timothy and Francine Johnson of Mississauga, and Jamie and Aggie Johnson of Georgetown, and his ten grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren. Earl is also survived by his sister Marion Allison and her husband Joe of Ingersoll. He was predeceased by his parents William and Pearl Johnson, one granddaughter, and one great granddaughter. CUNNINGHAM, Lucille (nee Bugera) On November 7, 2008 our dear mother and grandmother, Lucille Cunningham passed away peacefully at her residence in Winnipeg, Manitoba at the age of 64 years. Lucille will be lovingly remembered by her son Graham (Angie) of Hong Kong, grandchildren Quazell and Kai; son Neal (Taran) of Australia; mother Magdalen Bugera; brother Len (Antoinette); niece Krista Deighton; sister Judy (Allen) Hamm; nephews Russell (Sonja) and Jaret and extended family. She was predeceased by her father John and husband Rick MacPhail. Lucille's tenacity and organizational skills were exemplified in her various career choices such as medical records supervisor, administrative secretary and real estate agent. Her ability in guiding clients to find the right house to call a home was recognized when she was selected as one of the Top 10 Royal LePage Realtors in Calgary. Lucille's creative and culinary skills were highlighted in her role as mother and homemaker. Her eagerness to experiment with new recipes was invariably met with delight by her guests. Lucille enjoyed many other hobbies such as paper tole, embroidery, needlepoint, stained glass, sewing and making decorations. She derived pleasure in making and giving these gifts to family members at Christmas. In 1998 Lucille was diagnosed with cancer. After treatment she moved to Winnipeg. In spite of the side effects she travelled to Mexico, Taiwan and Hong Kong. Her declining health limited her activities; however, she continued to enjoy reading, playing cards, working on her computer and communicating weekly with her son Neal in Australia. DONALD, Helen Catherine - passed away peacefully at home in Owen Sound on Monday, November 3, 2008 in her 98th year. She was born March 25, 1911 in Dundas where she married Harold Rowe Donald in 1939. Harry and Helen spent most of their 50 years of marriage in the same home at 229 Park St W., raising their 5 children. She ran her own childrens' clothing business, Donald's of Dundas, for 25 years. In her spare time her passions were quilting, sewing and dancing, which she did with such flare and skill well into her eighties. Helen is survived by her 5 children - Susan Laporte of Owen Sound, Barbara Myers (Bob) of Copetown, Marjorie Horne (Helmut) of Sauble Beach, Cathy Lawson of Niagara- on-the-Lake and Stuart of Pemberton, B.C. She cherished her 12 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren and was always interested and up to date with their activities and accomplishments. She continued to make new friends. Her sense of humour had such a positive and uplifting affect on everyone. Helen was truly grateful to all the team from CCAC and the Red Cross whose support workers gave her such expert care and companionship, especially Gail. All who knew Helen will miss her dearly. Friends will be received by the family at the Cattel, Eaton and Chambers Funeral Home, 53 Main St. Dundas on Tuesday, November 25 from 1-2 pm with a service and interment at the White Chapel Memorial Gardens, Ancaster to follow. OLMSTED, Earl Alexander July 22, 1914 - November 10, 2008 Retired Lieutenant Colonel, RCA Former National Secretary, Army Benevolent Fund Earl Olmsted would have said "keep it short" but how do you condense 94 extraordinary years into a few paragraphs. It's very fitting that he died on the eve of Remembrance Day because he was one of the few remaining survivors of the D-Day landing on Normandy Beach, World War II. He rarely spoke about the war but he instilled in his four children a fierce love of Canada. When his childhood sweetheart and wife, Marjorie (together for 76 years - married 67 years), passed away a year ago, we were advised by the compassionate and caring staff of the Claremont Retirement Residence that he might follow quickly. He died peacefully in his rocking chair and felt blessed and honoured to have so much attention from his children: nightly "fireside chats" with his son Bruce of whom he was immensely proud, daily visits by his beloved daughter Eleanor who worked tirelessly to make his life full and meaningful until the end, and his loving daughter Valerie visited from Calgary several times a year and called twice each day. Most of all he adored his five grandchildren, Jana, Tally, Lani, Lindsay and Geoffrey, and he will rest peacefully knowing his best trait - common decency - is alive and well in all of them. A recent highlight was the opportunity to meet his new great grand baby twins, Nadia and Jalen and show them off proudly at the Claremont. Dad was an only child born in 1914 to parents who doted on him. They were thrilled that he was the first member of his extended family to receive a university degree from St. Patrick's College. Earl was particularly proud that all five of his grandchildren have attended university and that two chose to attend Queen's University. Dad had always wanted to go to Queens himself but the depression prevented it. Just after graduating he enlisted in the Army (artillery) in 1939 and went overseas for six years. He landed on D-Day as an officer and was among the first wave of soldiers to liberate Holland at the end of the war. Earl chose to continue a career in the armed forces, with postings that allowed him to experience everything from A-bomb testing in Nevada, Bedouins in Egypt, to polar bears in Fort Churchill. His military training reinforced his stoicism and his war experience helped frame a lifelong calm demeanor. One year, long, long ago when his children still lived at home, Dad packed his p.j.'s into his suitcase, left for work as usual, and checked himself into the hospital with a bleeding ulcer (an ailment that hospitalized him for six months after the war). This was in keeping with his nature - keep your complaints and suffering to yourself! Staying true to himself, five years ago the reverse happened. At the age of 90, after three days in hospital following open heart surgery, he checked himself out early wearing his pajamas. Earl was of that breed that is seldom encountered these days. An endangered species exemplifying patience, thrift, fairness and hard work. Admittedly shy, he was married to a woman with a wonderful sense of humour. He has been George Burns to her Gracie Allen for over half a century and often we would find them in their chairs laughing over lives well lived. They loved reminiscing about summer vacations spent at Red Pine Camp, Golden Lake, Ontario (Mom and Dad were campers for almost 60 years!). Fun, friends, inter-generational fellowship, and wholesome values were the bonds that brought us together for family reunions each year. When asked the secret to their happy years together he said "keep your mouth shut". This kindly dignified chap was indeed a man of few words, but "chap" was one of his favourites. Old fashioned values of honesty, loyalty and integrity are rare, but he lived by them each day of his 94 years. When he turned 90, Eleanor wanted to throw him a party. Being a practical man he vetoed it - "who would come? I've outlived all my friends!"...Not true. He made many new ones in the last five years while living in the Claremont where Marjorie and Earl were cherished by staff and residents. Dad reluctantly gave up their independent living among dear friends in Amberwood Village, Stittsville only when reassured be would still be able to play bridge each day! Already greatly missed by his children and grandchildren, some very special people who were important to Dad are: Noreen Langdon, Rita Salter, Ted & Muriel Langdon, Alan & Waveney Salter, Dr. Nady El-Guebaly, Samy El-Guebaly, Dr. Ray Osborne, Jamie Pine, Judy Ketcheson, Marilyn El-Guebaly, Bill Salter Jr., Mary & King Chapman, Andrea and Albert Peters, Doug & Jean Salter, Betty & Gordon Campbell, Loris Jordan, Red Piners and lifelong friends in Amberwood and the Ottawa Valley, and fellow residents and bridge partners at the Claremont. Special thanks to the exemplary staff at the Claremont, particularly Barbara, and to the wonderful Dr. Nam at Sunnybrook Hospital. A book of condolences will be available for signatures at Tubman Funeral Home, Westboro Chapel, 403 Richmond Road, Ottawa. A celebration of his life will be held in April, 2009, at Capital Memorial Gardens in Ottawa. Dad was a nice guy and our hero. ROY & JEAN GUNN- Roy passed away on August 7, 2008 in Edmonton, AB at the age of 87 years. Jean passed away on November 11, 2008 in Gravelbourg, SK at the age of 86 years. They are survived by their daughter Linda (Clifford) Johnstone and son-in-law Roy Eykelbosh; four grandsons Andrew, Corey, Kelly (Dawn) and Scott; one granddaughter Jessica; three great granddaughters Alex, Malysha and Royanne; Jean's two sisters Dorothy Osler and Merle Tysdal and goddaughter Larissa Fadish; nieces and nephews. They are predeceased by daughter Janice Gunn-Eykelbosh; Jean's sister Margaret Spears; Roy's brother Clifford Gunn and sister Dorothy Patterson; three brothers-in-law Ralph Osler, Gordon Tysdal and Jim Patterson. Roy was born January 6, 1921 on the family farm at Shamrock, SK. He was born with a physical disability which he overcame with great determination and surgery at the age of six. He left home at the age of sixteen by train to Moose Jaw to find work. He worked for BA Oil (now Gulf Oil) in Moose Jaw before transferring to Edmonton in 1970. He enjoyed travelling, music, loved all sports, especially hockey, Thereon Fleury and the Calgary Flames being his favourite. He loved all his family dearly. Jean was born December 19, 1921 in Moose Jaw, SK and was raised there. She loved playing the piano, she played by ear, gardening, animals, especially cats, she took in a many of strays and had many cat related treasures; she was devoted to her church. She was a wonderful caregiver to her family; she was selfless, always thinking of others before herself. Roy and Jean met while both working at a munitions factory during WW II in Moose Jaw. They were married February 27, 1943. They loved to travel going to Hawaii 15 years in a row and Europe twice. They attended symphonies and planned holidays around attending the Moose Jaw Band Festival. They loved to watch all sports and were intelligent fans; they golfed together for many years. Family was most important and dear to them. A Graveside Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, November 15, 2008 at Rosedale Cemetery, Moose Jaw at 2:00 pm with Pastor Wendell Bailey officiant. BEVERIDGE, Gary Thomas Born: September 27, 1935 With deep sadness we announce that Gary Beveridge died unexpectedly, late in the evening on November 9, 2008 after a difficult illness. He is survived by his loving wife of 43 years, Margaret, and his two sons Tom (Shirley) and Richard (Erika and Kennedy Rankin). Also mourning his passing are his older sister Gael (Andy Hebenton) and their family. A quiet and reflective man, Gary spent his professional life as an educator and continued to volunteer his time working with children for nearly 10 years after his retirement from the School District in 1999. His passion for helping children was a core part of his being, as was his enduring love for the outdoors. Gary brought us joy with his dry sense of humour and he inspired us with his determination to lead a life focused on human service, even when the physical challenges of his disability made volunteering a significant sacrifice. Our family wishes to extend our thanks to the many doctors, nurses and community care personnel who cared for Gary during his recent hospitalization. Particular gratitude is extended to Dr. Mavis Hollman, Les Hall and the nursing staffs of 6 South and 3 West who offered tremendous patience and support for Gary and our family. EDWARDS, Dorothy Mary (nee, Clarkin) May 30, 1925 November 11, 2008 Dorothy died peacefully at the Victoria Hospice after a short battle with cancer. Dorothy was born in PEI and later married Norman James Edwards of Montreal (predeceased 2003). Norman was a serviceman for 32 years and they were posted and lived all over Canada. In their retirement they traveled a great deal, making many new friends all over the world. Norman and Dorothy called Victoria home for the past 41 years. Dorothy is survived by her three children, Wayne Edwards and his wife Louise. Douglas Edwards and his wife Irene and their two daughters Rebecca and Melissa. And Heather Drew and her husband Gene and their two children, Nicholas and Rachel. Dorothy will be greatly missed by her family and many friends. Dorothy's family would like to pass on their deepest thanks to the staff of the Royal Jubilee Hospital 4c section and the Victoria Hospice for their care and consideration. There will be a service on Tuesday, November 18th at 12 noon at St. Andrews Cathedral (on the corner of View and Blanshard Street) in Victoria BC. IRWIN, Elfrieda (Frieda) Was called Home by her Lord on November 13, 2008 in Victoria, BC. She was predeceased by her husband, Ross in July 2008; her parents, four sisters and one brother. Born on September 7, 1912 in Burstall, Saskatchewan she spent her early years in Saskatchewan later moving to Ontario where she met and married Ross in 1945. Together they lived in cities across Canada and Europe as Ross pursued a Canadian military medical career. She was a proud Canadian and a devoted, lifelong member of the Lutheran church. Frieda is survived by a sister-in-law, Emma Stuhlmiller in Edmonton, Alberta in addition to many nieces, nephews and friends all of whom were very special to her. The family wishes to thank the staff of St. Charles Manor for the care provided to Frieda during the past year. KLASSEN, Carl (1918 2008) Carl Klassen went home to be with his Saviour and Lord on Nov 10th at Abbotsford Regional Hospital at the age of 90. Carl is survived by his wife, Sara, his brother Allan (Ruth) and Sara's daughter-in-laws, Shirley Hinkel and Bonny Hinkel. Son, Tim, Daughters, Ruth (Allan), Edith (Dave), Son Terry (Katharine), 14 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Carl was predeceased by his first wife, Dora, and daughter, Carol, as well as his parents, Aaron (Ann) Klassen, brother, Menno, and sisters, Arona and Dora. He will be sadly missed by all who knew him for his Godly character, caring and compassion. Carl ministered as a pastor in Francois Lake, Burns Lake, Prince George, 100 Mile House, Langley, Victoria, Lantzville, Hawaii, New Zealand and also several months in the Ukraine. PINKERTON, Anna On November, 11, 2008 Anna Pinkerton passed away peacefully with her family by her side. Anna was born September 11, 1920 in Paisley, Scotland. Anna joins her husband Jack in who died 1992. Anna is survived by her daughter Jennifer, grandson Jason (his wife Lauren), and family and friends. The last week of her life was more comfortable and peaceful thanks to the excellent compassionate care of Dr Alec Walton, surgeon Dr Karimuddin, and the nursing staff at Royal Jubilee. SCRIMGER, Stella June 9, 1926 November 7, 2008 Stella passed away peacefully on November 7th. Predeceased by her beloved husband Joseph and brother Stan, Stella will be sadly missed by daughters, Joan (Tom) Freeman and Anne (Marino) Piazza, sons Paul (Sandra) Scrimger and Malcolm Scrimger, and her seven grandchildren. Born in Jarrow, England, Stella moved to Canada in 1952 and dedicated her life to raising her family. Stella lived in New York, Bermuda, Quebec and Italy, but Victoria was always home to her. In 1981 Stella and Joe founded Jasco Research and ran the company together until Joe died in 1997. Stella was especially proud of the legacy of Jasco Research, which has grown into an international research and development company. WATT, Mary (nee Langton) of Campbell River, BC, formerly of Victoria, BC and Montreal, QB, passed away peacefully at Yucalta Lodge, Campbell River on November 4, 2008 at the age of 92. Mary was born in Shotton, Wales on July 12, 1916 and arrived in Canada on Aug 8, 1930. Mary is survived by her son and his spouse, William Duncan and Janet Margaret Watt; her grandchildren, Mary Susan Potvin, Marie Therese Elizabeth Welsh and William Alan Watt; and eight great-grandchildren. She will be missed by all. She was the beloved spouse of the late William George Watt, who passed away on Nov 6, 1993. YOUNG, Emma Kathleen (Kay) nee Zwicker of Victoria and Nanoose Bay, B.C. On November 7, 2008 at her home near Nanoose Bay and in her 89th year, a gentle wind song carried Kay (Mum) from the arms of family to join her husband (Mack) of 70 years on a new journey. Her son (Tony), one sister (Dorothy) and many nieces and friends remain to celebrate her life and her new adventure beyond. Kay was born and raised in Edmonton. She arrived in Victoria prior to the war and married Mack, her high school sweetheart, who was stationed at CFB Esquimalt. Following the war, they moved to North Vancouver to start a family. Kay was a devoted mother and wife yet found the time to have a successful career in the interior decorating business in Vancouver as well as attend to the needs of her parents and close relatives, Seeking a more relaxed lifestyle, they moved to Vancouver Island in 1975 and built their country home (Wind Song) along the shores of Dolphin Bay. Kay enjoyed tending to her gardens, playing golf and bridge, summer parties and family gatherings, spending winter months in the desert and looking after her pussycats. After many years in Nanoose Bay, she returned Victoria to be close to family and continued to garden and play bridge with close friends. Mum visited her beloved Wind Song home frequently and was very happy residing there with her son when she was unexpectedly called to begin her new life, Thank you Mum for the enduring love, care and spirit you have given to your family and friends. You accomplished much good and your wishes will continue to give contentment to many. We are joyful you have made safe passage home to peace, rest and the warm embrace of loved ones. Your presence will always remain and help guide our travels until a heartbeat brings us together again. A special thanks to the doctors and nurses in Victoria, Nanaimo and Parksville who provided quality of life care to Mum over the past year. There will be no service at Kay's request.
