KEOGH, Joseph Gabriel - Peacefully at the N.H.S. General Site on Tuesday, November 11, 2008. Beloved husband of the late Ann Marie Keogh (nee. Sullivan); loving father of Joanne and the late Timothy Keogh; cherished brother of Bill Keogh. Survived by cousins Mariane Wilson and Kathy Monahan. Mr. Keogh taught Communications and English Literature at various Universities in Canada and the United States, ultimately retiring from Niagara University in Lewiston, N.Y. Following a massive heart attack, John endured a long and arduous surgical procedure to replace the work of his heart muscle with the introduction of ventricular assist devices that would have led to a heart transplant. SHERGER, Leon George September 2, 1924 - November 10, 2008 Leon Sherger, beloved husband of Margaret, passed away peacefully on Monday, November 10, 2008, surrounded by his loving family at the Rosedale Hospice, at the age of 84 years. Leon was born in Humboldt, Saskatchewan. He moved to Calgary in 1944 where he began his forty plus year career in the Restaurant Service Industry. He worked for Beaver Brothers Restaurants for the first fourteen years of his career and subsequent to that co-founded the Park Lane Restaurant in the North Hill Shopping Centre. Leon subsequently had other Restaurants and Catering businesses in Calgary including the Norcen Cafeteria. In addition to his business interests, Leon was very involved in the Knights of Columbus. He was a third Degree Member of 1186 Council and served as their Grand Knight in 1984/1985. In addition, he was a Charter Member of the Fr. Michael J. McGivney 4th Degree Assembly. Leon married Margaret in 1947 at their family home in Saskatchewan and they immediately moved to Calgary to pursue their careers. Leon is survived by his loving wife Margaret; daughter Shirley (Jerry), son Larry (Sherree), daughter Carrie (Jeff); six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. He is also survived by five brothers and five sisters. A Prayer Service will be held at Sacred Heart Catholic Church (1307 - 14 Street S.W.) on Thursday, November 13, 2008 at 7:00 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be Celebrated at Sacred Heart Catholic Church on Friday, November 14, 2008 at 10:00 a.m. The family wishes to express a special thank you to the staff of the Rosedale Hospice for their compassion and care of Leon and family. WILSON, Robert (Bob) Harry April 11, 1927 - November 8, 2008 Bob Wilson, with family by his side, passed away on November 8, 2008 after a brief undiagnosed illness at 81 years of age. He is lovingly remembered by his wife Eleanor, sons Grant (Roberta), Rick, Tom (Cathy), Lee (Barb), and Warren (Kristel), sister Myrt Tiberghien, and many grandchildren who knew him as Grand Chief. From his extended family, he leaves to mourn Patrick Burnett, Richard (Mary) Burnett and grandchildren. He was predeceased by his first wife Irene in 1974, his father in 1973, his mother in 1988, brothers Don in 2008 and George in 2007. Bob joined the Calgary Fire Department in 1950 and retired as Deputy Chief in 1984. He loved to travel and spent his winters golfing in southern California from 1984 to 2007. Rousseau laisse dans le deuil sa fille Manon (Claude Gosselin). Il était le frère de: feu Marcel (Lise Côté), Françoise (John Dunn), Jovette (feu Jean Lacroix), Monique (feu Jacques D'aoust), Jacques (Thérèse Dulac) et Suzanne (feu Richard Daniels). Il était aussi le beau-frère de: feu Jeanne Brochu (feu Armand Beauchemin), feu Blanche Brochu (feu Roger Boutin), feu Lucienne Brochu (feu Donald Martel), feu Paul-Émile Brochu (Ginette Allard), Marie-Anne Brochu, feu Noël Brochu (Janine Fontaine), feu Marcel Brochu, Jean-Jacques Brochu (Réjeanne Lacroix), André Brochu (Raymonde Dumoulin), feu Robert Brochu. Il laisse également dans le deuil son oncle Gilles Rousseau (Henriette Boulé) ainsi que de nombreux neveux, nièces, cousins, cousines, autres parents et amis. CRONK-Ernest (Ernie) passed away peacefully on the morning of Wednesday, November 12, 2008 at the age of 84. He leaves to mourn son Garth (Bev) Cronk, Regina; daughter Kathie Cronk, Vancouver; daughter Bev Meyer, Regina son Byron Cronk, Regina; grandchildren: Jennifer (Joel), Jonathan, Michelle, Geoff, Chad (Nicole), Jolene, Aaron and Ashley and great grandchildren: Blake, Logan, Hannah and Ethan. Ernie was predeceased by his wife Yvette in 2006; son-in-law Wayne Meyer in 1993; his parents Stanley and Caroline Cronk; one bother Ralph and his wife Darlene Cronk. Ernie was born on October 24, 1924 in Quinton, SK. He later graduated from Notre Dame in Wilcox. After moving to Indian Head he met and married Yvette Pilon on August 12, 1953. They owned and operated the United Store, The Red and White Store and built Cronk's Tomboy in 1967. They moved to Regina in 2005 for health reasons. Ernie was a long time member of the Elks. He owned several successful race horses and he enjoyed his time at the race track. He could frequently be found at the hockey rink, curling rink or the ball diamonds as an avid spectator and sponsor of many teams. The family extends a special thanks to the staff at the Cherished Hearts Personal Care Home. The funeral mass will be celebrated by Rev. Leonardo Tamayo in St. Joseph's R.C. Church, Indian Head, Sk on Saturday, November 15, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. with interment of cremated remains in Indian Head Cemetery. Prayers will be held in the Church Friday at 7:30. IRVING-Mary Edith passed away on November 11, 2008 at the age of 90 years. She was predeceased by her husband John "Elliot" (1993). JONES, Roy Kenneth Jr 9 September 1959 22 October 2008 Roy passed away in Sturgeon Hospital, St. Albert, Alta. He is survived by his parents Roy and Janet Jones of Victoria, BC. RENNIE, Hulda November 24, 1923 November 11, 2008 Passed away peacefully with her daughters by her side on Tuesday, November 11 at Victoria General Hospital. Predeceased by her husband, Roy, in 1976 and daughter Brenda in 1981; 8 sisters and 2 brothers. Survived by daughters: Barb (Murray) and Bev (Lorne); grandchildren: Shawna (Mike), Luke (Ashley), Josh, Randi, Ryan (Kristi), Jayne, Danielle and Dale; great grandchildren: Kurtis, Izayah, Jessica, Taia, Caleb, Kiana, and Evelyn and brother Phil (Ann) and many nieces and nephews. Hulda was born St. Boswell, Saskatchewan to Edward and Barbara Scheske. She married Roy in 1947 and moved to Victoria in 1952 where they raised their family in Langford. Although, circumstances forced her to leave school to work after grade 8, she returned to school to attain her high school diploma at the age of 52. Hulda was a "hands on Granny" who took great delight in the accomplishments of her grandchildren. Ever the optomist, she found the silver lining in all situations and believed in the inherent goodness of people. The family would like to thank the staff at Sunset Lodge for the care and attention Hulda received. Funeral Service will be held at Sands Funeral Chapel, 317 Goldstream Avenue, Colwood, BC on Saturday, November 15 at 10:00 am. TYMCHUK, George In the early hours of Sunday, November 9, 2008 George joined Sophia. They are together again. George was born in Corbin, B.C. on March 25, 1923, the third child to John and Maria Tymchuk. George grew up in Mannville, Alberta along with his six siblings. He moved to Natal, B.C. to work in the coal mines and it was there that he met and married Sophia. Together they worked very hard for themselves and their children, Sandy and Gloria. George and Sophia were married sixty-five years before she passed away in April, 2007. Dad rallied after her death but it was a struggle for him until he too, moved into Cairnsmore Place. To dad it was like coming home because he knew so many of the caregivers from the time that Sophia spent there. George is survived by his son, Dr. Alexander James Tymchuk (Marilyn), grandsons Mark Tymchuk and Dr. Christopher Tymchuk (Francesca) and Pauline Tymchuk: his daughter Gloria LaFortune, grandsons Kevin (Jennifer) LaFortune and Nicholas (Kristi) LaFortune and Lawrence LaFortune. George was also blessed with a great grandson Owen and knew that three more great grandchildren would be arriving in 2009! A Memorial Service for George will be held at 11:00am Friday, November 14, 2008 in the Chapel of First Memorial, 375 Brae Road, Duncan, BC. In lieu of flowers, a donation to Cairnsmore Place Foundation in George's memory would be greatly appreciated. VICKERS, Randolph (Randy) S.T. Jan 10, 1917 November 6, 2008 Dad was born in Burnaby, BC on January 10, 1917. Later that year his parents moved to Victoria where he graduated from Victoria High School in 1935, after which he began work at HMCS Dockyard for 38 years retiring in 1973. When war broke out Dad joined the Naval Reserve in 1941, serving overseas in 1943 1945, first aboard HMCS Gatineau and then at HMCS Niobe in Greenoch, Scotland. He retired from the Naval Reserve in 1969 after 28 years of service, rising from the rank of ordinary seaman to lieutenant commander (major). Dad was married to his life long love, Margaret M. Greenway, on November 22, 1941 for almost 48 years ending with her death in 1989. His four children were the jewels of his life and in time, his grandchildren and great grandchildren. Predeceased by his granddaughter Cathy Buckle in 2007 he is survived by children Vicky Vickers, Joanne DeWolf, Chris Vickers, Holly Vickers (Barry Mayes), by grandchildren Michelle (Mike) Scott , Jennifer (Cory) Budalich, Colin (Jenn) DeWolf, and Ewan (Heather) DeWolf , and by great grandchildren Amanda and Brynn Scott, Arwen Budalich, and Emalyn Dewolf. After Mom passed, he met Vera Sandbrook through mutual friends and they married and were good companions for 17 years. Dad loved camping and nature and hiking and swimming with his kids. He loved travelling and had a great interest in other places and people. He was a long time member of the Photographic Society of America and the Vagabond Trailer Club. A very honourable man who lived his code, he lived quietly and loved deeply. A favourite uncle to many cousins and also 'adopted' by Susan Fraser, he will be sorely missed.
