Euclide Léveillé, following a brave battle with cancer, died at St. Joseph’s Health Centre in Hamilton on November 6, 2008 surrounded by his loving family. He was 69. He was born May 2, 1939 in Armstrong Township to Ozias and Anna (née Matteau) Léveillé. He lived in North Cobalt and had worked as a Heavy Equipment Operator for Miller Paving. Mr. Leveille was a man who loved to keep busy cutting firewood and repairing small engines. He loved the outdoors and fishing but his greatest love was his family. Mr. Leveille was predeceased by his parents and his brother Aimé. He is survived by his loving and caring wife Deborah whom he married 45 years ago on April 27, 1963; by his children Denis (Sylvie Chartrand) of New Liskeard, Carole (Candice) Léveillé of Belleville, Roger (Tammy Godden) Léveillé of St. Charles and André (Sherry) Léveillé of Coniston; grandchildren Steffany and Jason Léveillé, Matthew Léveillé and Brittany Boileau, Hayley and Caleb Léveillé; and siblings Arthur, Eugène, Jules, Jean-Paul, Eugénie Deshaies, Léonie St. Amour and Dora Ethier. The funeral service was held at the Buffam Leveille Funeral Home on November 9. Pastor Fred Knutson officiated. Interment will take place at Mount Pleasant Cemetery in Haileybury. Gorr, Gertrude, Mrs. - August 29, 2008 Fill not your hearts with pain and sorrow, But remember me in every tomorrow. It is with heartfelt sorrow that we announce the peaceful death of our dear mother, Joanna Xuereb Farrugia, at the age of one hundred and two on August 29, 2008. Cherished and beloved wife of the late Anthony Farrugia. Mother of fifteen children, seven of whom are deceased, including Joseph, Sylvio, Louis, Carmen and her eldest son Joe and his wife Lillian. She will be lovingly remembered by her remaining children, Gladys (Tony Farrugia), Doris (Steve Vogtle), Vivian (Joe Castaldi), Isabella (Charlie Cuschieri), Eileen (Doug Newmarch), Tony (Barbara), Victor (Betty) and Daria (Salvatore Fuda). Survived by sister Mary McDonald, sisters-in-law Sr. Stefanina Farrugia and Stella Farrugia, Rita Farrugia (Effie Naudi) and brother-in-law Frank Farrugia (Vivi). Devoted grandmother of twenty-seven grandchildren, one of whom, Michael, is deceased and forty-six great-grandchildren. She leaves to mourn many friends and relatives around the world, in Australia, Malta, U.S.A. and Britain, with one niece Marlene Sciberras in Toronto. Mother touched countless lives through her kindness, prayers and deep faith as well as her enormous love for children. She set an example for us all. SCRIMGER, Stella June 9, 1926 November 7, 2008 Stella passed away peacefully on November 7th. Predeceased by her beloved husband Joseph and brother Stan, Stella will be sadly missed by daughters, Joan (Tom) Freeman and Anne (Marino) Piazza, sons Paul (Sandra) Scrimger and Malcolm Scrimger, and her seven grandchildren. Born in Jarrow, England, Stella moved to Canada in 1952 and dedicated her life to raising her family. Stella lived in New York, Bermuda, Quebec and Italy, but Victoria was always home to her. In 1981 Stella and Joe founded Jasco Research and ran the company together until Joe died in 1997. Stella was especially proud of the legacy of Jasco Research, which has grown into an international research and development company. Pigeon, René Paul 1967 - 2008 Paul est décédé en paix le 11 novembre. Il était le mari dévoué de Patricia et le père affectueux de Max, Gertie, Sascha et Momo. Il était le fils bien-aimé d'Aimée et de feu Ronald Pigeon. OLMSTED, Earl Alexander July 22, 1914 - November 10, 2008 Retired Lieutenant Colonel, RCA Former National Secretary, Army Benevolent Fund Earl Olmsted would have said "keep it short" but how do you condense 94 extraordinary years into a few paragraphs. It's very fitting that he died on the eve of Remembrance Day because he was one of the few remaining survivors of the D-Day landing on Normandy Beach, World War II. He rarely spoke about the war but he instilled in his four children a fierce love of Canada. When his childhood sweetheart and wife, Marjorie (together for 76 years - married 67 years), passed away a year ago, we were advised by the compassionate and caring staff of the Claremont Retirement Residence that he might follow quickly. He died peacefully in his rocking chair and felt blessed and honoured to have so much attention from his children: nightly "fireside chats" with his son Bruce of whom he was immensely proud, daily visits by his beloved daughter Eleanor who worked tirelessly to make his life full and meaningful until the end, and his loving daughter Valerie visited from Calgary several times a year and called twice each day. Most of all he adored his five grandchildren, Jana, Tally, Lani, Lindsay and Geoffrey, and he will rest peacefully knowing his best trait - common decency - is alive and well in all of them. A recent highlight was the opportunity to meet his new great grand baby twins, Nadia and Jalen and show them off proudly at the Claremont. Dad was an only child born in 1914 to parents who doted on him. They were thrilled that he was the first member of his extended family to receive a university degree from St. Patrick's College. Earl was particularly proud that all five of his grandchildren have attended university and that two chose to attend Queen's University. Dad had always wanted to go to Queens himself but the depression prevented it. Just after graduating he enlisted in the Army (artillery) in 1939 and went overseas for six years. He landed on D-Day as an officer and was among the first wave of soldiers to liberate Holland at the end of the war. Earl chose to continue a career in the armed forces, with postings that allowed him to experience everything from A-bomb testing in Nevada, Bedouins in Egypt, to polar bears in Fort Churchill. His military training reinforced his stoicism and his war experience helped frame a lifelong calm demeanor. One year, long, long ago when his children still lived at home, Dad packed his p.j.'s into his suitcase, left for work as usual, and checked himself into the hospital with a bleeding ulcer (an ailment that hospitalized him for six months after the war). This was in keeping with his nature - keep your complaints and suffering to yourself! Staying true to himself, five years ago the reverse happened. At the age of 90, after three days in hospital following open heart surgery, he checked himself out early wearing his pajamas. Earl was of that breed that is seldom encountered these days. An endangered species exemplifying patience, thrift, fairness and hard work. Admittedly shy, he was married to a woman with a wonderful sense of humour. He has been George Burns to her Gracie Allen for over half a century and often we would find them in their chairs laughing over lives well lived. They loved reminiscing about summer vacations spent at Red Pine Camp, Golden Lake, Ontario (Mom and Dad were campers for almost 60 years!). Fun, friends, inter-generational fellowship, and wholesome values were the bonds that brought us together for family reunions each year. When asked the secret to their happy years together he said "keep your mouth shut". This kindly dignified chap was indeed a man of few words, but "chap" was one of his favourites. Old fashioned values of honesty, loyalty and integrity are rare, but he lived by them each day of his 94 years. When he turned 90, Eleanor wanted to throw him a party. Being a practical man he vetoed it - "who would come? I've outlived all my friends!"...Not true. He made many new ones in the last five years while living in the Claremont where Marjorie and Earl were cherished by staff and residents. Dad reluctantly gave up their independent living among dear friends in Amberwood Village, Stittsville only when reassured be would still be able to play bridge each day! Already greatly missed by his children and grandchildren, some very special people who were important to Dad are: Noreen Langdon, Rita Salter, Ted & Muriel Langdon, Alan & Waveney Salter, Dr. Nady El-Guebaly, Samy El-Guebaly, Dr. Ray Osborne, Jamie Pine, Judy Ketcheson, Marilyn El-Guebaly, Bill Salter Jr., Mary & King Chapman, Andrea and Albert Peters, Doug & Jean Salter, Betty & Gordon Campbell, Loris Jordan, Red Piners and lifelong friends in Amberwood and the Ottawa Valley, and fellow residents and bridge partners at the Claremont. Special thanks to the exemplary staff at the Claremont, particularly Barbara, and to the wonderful Dr. Nam at Sunnybrook Hospital. A book of condolences will be available for signatures at Tubman Funeral Home, Westboro Chapel, 403 Richmond Road, Ottawa. A celebration of his life will be held in April, 2009, at Capital Memorial Gardens in Ottawa. Dad was a nice guy and our hero. BONNER, George has passed away unexpectedly at the Royal Jubilee Hospital on Wednesday, November 5. Dad was 82 years old. He was born in Kimberley, BC and spent most of his adult life in Victoria. Dad worked for Woodward's, before Mayfair became a shopping center and enjoyed golfing at Uplands more than any other activity. He had many stories of the guys he played with, David, Tony, Ray and his other golfing mates. Those connections were a big important part of his life. He liked joking with the waitresses and really loved the fish and chips at Uplands. He still paid for his Uplands golf membership for the 10 years he lived in Calgary because he knew he would come home to Victoria someday. He was a talented puzzle-solver and enjoyed his solitude, solving Sudoku puzzles and endlessly reading in his later years. He was an accomplished, meticulous, patient gardener, manicuring his yard in a lovely sculptured way, enticing many students from UVic to come into the yard and take photographs. Dad was a very kind, teasing and generous man. He had a twinkle in those beautiful blue eyes up until his last day. After the death of his infant son Michael in 1953, his loving wife Taffy in 1989, his son in law Ben Schmidt in 1993, and his quirky dog Bumpy in 1985, George is lovingly survived by his three daughters, Phoebe Edmiston, Jane Schmidt-Patopea, Belle Bonner and their partners Al Eddy, Jerry Patopea and Paul Pellow. As well as grandsons Lande and Dylan Edmiston and their partners Laurelle Edmiston and Gillian Hillerud, greatgrandson Kyan Edmiston and "himself" Maverick. Nieces, nephew and other relatives in BC and Ontario. A private memorial will be held by the immediate family. MERRY, Margaret Mucky" Shirley (nee Ives) November 19, 1928 November 9, 2008 Just ten days short of her 80th birthday, Margaret lost her long fight against arthritis and Alzheimer's Disease on November 9th at Glenwarren Lodge. Margaret was pre-deceased by her husband, John Windy" in 1996. She is survived by children Susan (Chris), Michael, Joseph (Karen), Kathleen; grandchildren Neil, Scott, Lyle, Leeann (Kyle), Crystal Dawn (John), Dwayne (Lila), Sabrina, Kaitlyn; great grandchildren, Kaydance, Greta, Lucy, Scarlette, Xander. Margaret is also survived by siblings Pat Larence, Irene Shaver, Raymond Ives and Clifford Ives along with many nieces and nephews. Margaret was born and raised in Winnipeg, Manitoba. At the age of 16, while working in a glove factory, she met a handsome young man named Windy" and that night announced to her sisters that she had met the man she would marry one day. Mucky and Windy were married on July 16, 1949 and lived in Winnipeg, St. Vital and Lockport, Manitoba until 1977 when Windy retired. They then moved to Victoria, BC with their youngest daughter to work at Centennial United Church for 10 years. Known to everyone to be fun loving and a bit of a `trouble maker', Margaret had a unique sense of humour and a wee bit of a stubborn streak. After many years of living with Alzheimer's Disease at home, Margaret moved to Glenwarren Lodge where she resided for the final three years of her life and received outstanding, compassionate and devoted care for which the family is eternally grateful. The family would also like to thank Dr. Nicoll for his many years of care. No formal service will be held by request. ROY & JEAN GUNN- Roy passed away on August 7, 2008 in Edmonton, AB at the age of 87 years. Jean passed away on November 11, 2008 in Gravelbourg, SK at the age of 86 years. They are survived by their daughter Linda (Clifford) Johnstone and son-in-law Roy Eykelbosh; four grandsons Andrew, Corey, Kelly (Dawn) and Scott; one granddaughter Jessica; three great granddaughters Alex, Malysha and Royanne; Jean's two sisters Dorothy Osler and Merle Tysdal and goddaughter Larissa Fadish; nieces and nephews. They are predeceased by daughter Janice Gunn-Eykelbosh; Jean's sister Margaret Spears; Roy's brother Clifford Gunn and sister Dorothy Patterson; three brothers-in-law Ralph Osler, Gordon Tysdal and Jim Patterson. Roy was born January 6, 1921 on the family farm at Shamrock, SK. He was born with a physical disability which he overcame with great determination and surgery at the age of six. He left home at the age of sixteen by train to Moose Jaw to find work. He worked for BA Oil (now Gulf Oil) in Moose Jaw before transferring to Edmonton in 1970. He enjoyed travelling, music, loved all sports, especially hockey, Thereon Fleury and the Calgary Flames being his favourite. He loved all his family dearly. Jean was born December 19, 1921 in Moose Jaw, SK and was raised there. She loved playing the piano, she played by ear, gardening, animals, especially cats, she took in a many of strays and had many cat related treasures; she was devoted to her church. She was a wonderful caregiver to her family; she was selfless, always thinking of others before herself. Roy and Jean met while both working at a munitions factory during WW II in Moose Jaw. They were married February 27, 1943. They loved to travel going to Hawaii 15 years in a row and Europe twice. They attended symphonies and planned holidays around attending the Moose Jaw Band Festival. They loved to watch all sports and were intelligent fans; they golfed together for many years. Family was most important and dear to them. A Graveside Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, November 15, 2008 at Rosedale Cemetery, Moose Jaw at 2:00 pm with Pastor Wendell Bailey officiant. WILLISON-Alphaeus William passed away in his sleep at Echo Lodge, Fort Qu'Appelle, SK on Wednesday, November 12, 2008 at the age of 102. Alph was born in Qu'Appelle, SK on October 4, 1906. He is predeceased by his wife, Elizabeth Bessie in 2004; his oldest son, Kenneth in 1997; siblings, Dorothy (Bert) Laughland, Joe (Pearl), Bill, Fred (Betty) and Jack; Alph is survived by his sons, David (Evelyn) ,Winnipeg, Stuart (Gloria), Regina; grandchildren, Shelly (Darren), Tim (Landis), Jeff (Barbara), Nancy, Kelly, Chera (Blaine), Jolene (Chad); 8 greatgrandchildren; 1 great-great-grandchild; daughter-in-law, Jeanette (Ron) Sayers; sister, Mary Stickle; sisters-in-law, Alice, Olive and Helen as well as many wonderful nieces and nephews. Alph farmed all his life (4 miles west of Qu'Appelle), was successful at his trade, took pride in his work ethic and was very community minded. For a number of years he was the telephone repair man in the Vernon District. Later in life dad and mom went on many trips with friends to Europe, United States and throughout Canada. He loved being with his family and enjoyed socializing with his friends. EDWARDS, Dorothy Mary (nee, Clarkin) May 30, 1925 November 11, 2008 Dorothy died peacefully at the Victoria Hospice after a short battle with cancer. Dorothy was born in PEI and later married Norman James Edwards of Montreal (predeceased 2003). Norman was a serviceman for 32 years and they were posted and lived all over Canada. In their retirement they traveled a great deal, making many new friends all over the world. Norman and Dorothy called Victoria home for the past 41 years. Dorothy is survived by her three children, Wayne Edwards and his wife Louise. Douglas Edwards and his wife Irene and their two daughters Rebecca and Melissa. And Heather Drew and her husband Gene and their two children, Nicholas and Rachel. Dorothy will be greatly missed by her family and many friends. Dorothy's family would like to pass on their deepest thanks to the staff of the Royal Jubilee Hospital 4c section and the Victoria Hospice for their care and consideration. There will be a service on Tuesday, November 18th at 12 noon at St. Andrews Cathedral (on the corner of View and Blanshard Street) in Victoria BC. KEAIS, Ivy Doris (nee GEORGE) Our beloved Nana Ivy died peacefully Nov 12, 2008 at Saanich Peninsula Hospital after a lengthy battle with cancer. Nana came to Canada as the wartime bride of Hugh Keais from Watford, England and lived in London, Ontario until he passed away in 1989. She moved to Sidney, B.C. in 1996 to live with her grandchildren. She is survived by her sons, Les and Barry, her daughter-in-law Bridget and her three grandchildren, Shealand, Graeme and Morgan. Nana collected many close friends throughout her life, most notably daughters" Esther Walker and Simone Kehl. We will all miss her positive outlook and amazing sense of humour, even through the toughest times. The funeral service will be held at St. Elizabeth's church in Sidney on Saturday Nov. 15, 1pm followed by a reception at 1670 Lands End Rd. WRIGHT, Laurence Allan Born July 19th, 1932. Passed away peacefully on November 11th, 2008. Survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Mally; sons, Kim (Marian), Greg (Rose), Scott (Bev); daughter Debra (Brad); grandchildren, Andrew, Melanie, Kaela, Stephanie, Laura and Nathan; brothers, Les (Stella), Bill (Joyce) and sister Pat (Don). Larry was a dedicated family man. Some of his fondest memories involved boating and fishing with his brothers or his children. He was always working on projects, but would drop everything to help others. He was an inventor, and problem-solver extraordinaire. Though forced to retire early from his career as an accountant, he continued to find ways to be helpful to all he could. He had tremendous will and drive, and faced adversity with amazing humour and grace. Larry was a devoted student of Christian Science. It gave him peace and strength throughout his life. JOHNSON, Earl - Suddenly at C.E.E. Hospital of Bluewater Health, Petrolia on Wednesday, November 12, 2008. Earl Johnson, 79 years, of Petrolia. Earl will be missed by his wife of 60 years Betty (nee Mitchell), his children Hope and David Springer of Whitechurch, Richard Johnson of Brampton, Larry and Dianne Johnson of Cornwall, Timothy and Francine Johnson of Mississauga, and Jamie and Aggie Johnson of Georgetown, and his ten grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren. Earl is also survived by his sister Marion Allison and her husband Joe of Ingersoll. He was predeceased by his parents William and Pearl Johnson, one granddaughter, and one great granddaughter. Earl was retired from Ontario Hydro. At the family's request there will be no funeral service. His cremated remains will be placed in a niche at Resurrection Cemetery. HEATON, Roderick Thomas, Mr. May 26, 1956 - August 21, 2008, - 52, Mineville. It is with great sadness that the family announces the death of Rod at his home in Mineville after a courageous battle with cancer. Born in Halifax, he was a son of Doriene (Birks) and the late Cyril Heaton. Rod spent many years employed in Occupational Health and Safety in the offshore oil and gas industry all around the world. He was a dedicated family man who loved music, the Oakland Raiders, and his German Shepherd. Besides his mother, Rod is survived by his beloved wife, Lori Youden; children, Nicholas (Rhegan) Heaton, Kelly (Mandy) Heaton; stepchildren, Andrew Christianson and Alexander Christianson; grandchildren, Trinity and Avery Heaton; brother, Harvey (Anne) Heaton; nephew, Bruce and niece, Jessi. Thomson, Margaret Mercer, Mrs. November 28, 1913 - August 21, 2008, Born November 28, 1913, Margaret passed away peacefully on August 21, 2008 in Calgary. She will be lovingly remembered by her sister Jean Peterson of Idaho, seventeen nieces and nephews, many grand nieces, grand nephews and the multitude of students she taught in Namaka, Standard and High River. She was predeceased by her parents Belle and Hans Thomson of Namaka, sisters Helen Bauer of Nebraska, Isabelle Cascadden and Ida Pollard of Calgary, brothers James and Hans Thomson of Michigan, Andy Thomson of Calgary and nephews Fred Thomson of Michigan and Harry Pollard of Calgary. Margaret was born and raised at Namaka. After completing Normal School in Calgary she began her long career as a teacher. She was a perfect example of decorum, thoughtfulness and compassion which made her an exemplary educator. Her career commenced at Namaka School where she taught from 1932 – 1937. She taught at Standard for one year and moved to High River in 1939 where she made her home and taught until retiring in 1973. Her retirement years were filled with travel across the USA, Australia, Japan, Russia, China, Africa and Europe. Although she had no children of her own, she was aunt, mother, grandmother and friend to her nieces and nephews in whom she always took great interest and loved dearly. She will be greatly missed. A private family service will be held at a later date. If friends desire, memorial tributes may be made to the charity of their choice.

Allan, Penny Jane, Ms. February 29, 1944 - August 27, 2008 Beloved mother of Jonathan (Victoria) and Cristina (Calgary), beloved sister of Peter and Bev (Bruder) Allan and family (Cochrane), John and Judi (Randolph) Allan and family (Marysville, USA), and Rosemary Allan (Calgary). Predeceased by her beloved companion Gilberto Rodriquez (Mexico City) and her parents Bery and Grace Allan (Lethbridge). A teacher, Penny was employed by the College of the North Atlantic in Doha, Qatar, where she developed curriculum and taught English to adults. Penny enjoyed a long and illustrious career with the Calgary Board of Education. She later became Curriculum Coordinator in the International Languages Department at Mount Royal College. A master teacher, Penny touched all who met her kind and sunny personality and vibrant joie de vivre. The family asks those attending to wear vibrant colours to reflect her personality. Many thanks to the medical and nursing staff, their heroic efforts, at the Rocky View Intensive Care Unit and Cardiology Unit. Arseneau, Joseph Sylvio “Leo”, Mr. September 2, 1917 - August 30, 2008 - Passed away peacefully in Northwood Manor on Saturday, August 30, 2008. Born in Bathurst, N.B., on September 2, 1917, the son of the late Leandie and Malvina (Vienneau) Arseneau. Leo graduated from Sacred Heart College in Bathurst and served in the Royal Canadian Airforce. He was a long-time employee of the civil service until his retirement. Leo dedicated several years serving the Catholic Church at Saint Lawrence Parish in Halifax. He is survived by his sister, Marie Mae (Jack) McKinney, Bathurst; sister-in-law, Doris (Lewis) MacKinnon, Halifax; granddaughters, Paula (Wrathall) Arseneau, Jo-Anna and Kathryn, all of Sackville. He was predeceased by his wife, Thelma (Lewis) (March 28, 2008); son, Gary A. Arseneau. At Leo's request, cremation has taken place. Mass to be celebrated by Father John WIlliams at 1:30 p.m. on Thursday, September 4, in Saint Agnes Church, Halifax. McDonald, Stella Marie, Mrs. May 19, 1935 - August 22, 2008, Stella McDonald (Barrieau) of Shediac passed away peacefully at The Moncton Hospital on Friday, August 22, 2008. Born in Tracadie, daughter of the late Jim and Ida (Richard) McGraw. She will be sadly missed by her four sons; Arthur (Georgina) McDonald, Alfred (Lynn) McDonald, Leonard (Kathy) McDonald and Paul (Nancy) McDonald, two daughters; Maria (Larry) Leger and Louise (Wally) Baker as well as ten grandchildren and three great grandchildren. She is also survived by two sisters; Ida and Yvonne, four brothers; Frank, Gilbert, Donald and Normand. Besides her parents, Stella was predeceased by her husband Fred McDonald, two brother; Vincent and Arthur and one grandchild, Serge. A Funeral service will be held from Fair Haven Funeral Home Chapel on Tuesday, August 26, 2008 at 3:00 pm followed by a reception in the Garden View Reception Room. Bologna, Mario, Mr. January 20, 1926 - August 28, 2008 On Thursday, August 28, 2008, Mario Bologna of Edmonton passed away peacefully at the age of 82 years and joined his late wife, Maria Bologna. He is survived by his two daughters, Lorette (Rick) Worsfold and Sandra (Todd) Burgoyne, and his grandson, Andre Worsfold. Dad was a loyal and dedicated husband and father. He was the founder of G&M Stone Masonry. Known as a superb and gifted craftsman with stone and brick, he created many landmarks in Edmonton and throughout Alberta. Brand, Edward Douglas, Mr. November 12, 1927 - August 20, 2008, Born November 12, 1927 in Nipawin, Saskatchewan. Ed passed away peacefully on August 20, 2008 in the loving presence of his daughters Judy and Debi at his home, Amica at Arbutus Manor, Vancouver, BC. His last days were spent surrounded by all his children, grandchildren and great-grandson. Predeceased by his dear and loving wife, Jean on September 18, 1999 and his long time fishing buddy, Craig Davis on July 14, 2008. Ed owned and operated the IGA on 14th and Granville and upon retirement enjoyed many memorable moments curling and traveling to Mesa, Arizona. His greatest joy was being with friends and family at the cabin on Shuswap Lake where many happy gatherings took place. Ed was a dedicated father to Judy Brand, Debi (Eric) VanDenKerkhof and Bob (Wilma) Brand, a doting grandfather to Lisa (Al) Jones, Michael (Amy) Davis, Kevin VanDenKerkhof, Kristina (Bessam) Alhashimi, Shaun (Rachel) VanDenKerkhof, Lindsay, Jaime and Kendall Brand. Ed was the proud great-grandfather to Jaxon Edward Jones and Xavier Alhashimi. The family would like to thank his many long time friends for their support, the dedicated staff at Amica and the cheerful friendships of his dining buddies. Also a heartfelt thanks to the people at Vancouver Coastal Health and the Bayshore Health Care.
