MELVIN VINCE MUIRHEAD- Vince passed away very peacefully with his family by his side on Tuesday, November 11, 2008 in Regina, SK. He fought a strong battle with cancer, but is now at peace with his Lord. Vince was born in Jamaica on August 16, 1944. He went to England in 1960 and came to Canada in 1974. He lived in Kitchener and Waterloo, ON until heading west in 1980. Vince has resided in Regina for the past 28 years. He was predeceased by his father, Cornelius and mother, Lillian Muirhead; brothers, Fredrick Muirhead (England) and Andrian Muirhead (New York) and sister, Margrett Chambers (England). Vince leaves to morn his wife, Janice of Regina; son, Lance and daughter, Megan Muirhead of Regina and families; son, Jason Husbands (Bonnie) and family of Regina; son, Michael Walchuk and family of Ontario; daughter, Lorette Muirhead and family of England, along with 10 grandchildren who adored their Papa; brothers, Hopeton "Syl " Muirhead and family of Ontario and Vivian Muirhead and family of England; extended family, Joan (Melissa) Rich of Regina, Vic (Cara) Moffat of Regina and Kathy Evancio and family of Regina; numerous in-laws and families in Ontario. Vince was known to many people as being so kind and thoughtful, always looking out for the person beside him. He was a true friend and will be dearly missed. CULLEY, Stephen Surrounded by his loving family, Stephen Culley passed away on November 11, 2008 in Ottawa, after a short battle with cancer. Much loved husband of Betty Jean, father to Sarah and Brian, brother of Eric (Lynne), Angus (Jackie) and John (Catherine), son- and brother-in-law to Maxine, Diane (Gary), Joan and uncle to Michael, Erin, Alex (Kim), Jessie, Lauren, Lana, Celia, Ian, Brett and Stephanie. Its been quite a journey. Graduating from Westmount High School (1969) and Dawson College and Carleton University (1976), he worked for 30 years with the Canadian Department of Foreign Affairs, serving abroad in England, Costa Rica, Hungary, Sweden, Poland, Italy and Syria. Stephen enjoyed traveling, discovering good wines, (winning) games, and loved spending time with his family, especially when there was peach pie. He will be remembered for his sense of humour and for his distinctive laugh. Special thanks to the nurses at Ottawa General Hospital for their wonderful care. MOORE, Lorna Eliza (nee Olive) Peacefully at home in Ottawa, Ontario, November 11, 2008. Lorna was born September 1, 1914 at Carp, Ontario. Beloved daughter of the late John James (Jack) and Anna Mary (Mulligan) Olive. She was very proud of her pioneer family roots in Huntley Township since the early 1800's. Her ancestral names include Bradley, Mulligan, Reid, Cavanagh, Mooney, Alexander, Shannon, Busby and Lacasse. Her father's family came from Borrisokane, County Tipperary, Ireland in 1825. Her mother's maternal roots go back to the 17th century in Canada. Widow of Thomas Oliver Moore (Tom) who died July 11, 1963 at Ottawa, Ontario. Beloved mother and survived by Gary (Sandra Mackie) Moore, and grandchildren Gordon, Carolyn, Dwain and Kim. Her daughter Barbara (Dalton) Owens and grandchildren Jennifer and Craig. Daughter Patricia Law, and grandchildren Jeffrey, Anthony (Tony) and Derek. Also survived by 7 great-grandchildren. WILSON, Ruth Barnefield Passed away peacefully in hospital on Wednesday, November 12th, 2008 at the age of 94. Beloved mother of Hope. Proud grandmother of Chantal (Erin) Bromage and also great-grandmother of Isabelle. She is predeceased by husband Charley, son David, sister Hope and brother Tom. Ruth was born in Pawtucket, Rhode Island and like her mother, a graduate of Wellesley College. Marrying a Canadian grain economist in 1936, they settled in Ottawa until her real adventures began with Foreign Service posts to Rome, Copenhagen, Chicago and Vienna. From these posts grew her passion for art history. She was a valued docent at the National Gallery of Canada and conducted many art tours through Europe and North America. The family would like to thank the staff of Rideau Place and the Ottawa General Hospital for their care. A memorial service will be held at St. Andrew's Church, Wellington at Kent Street on Saturday, November 15th at 3 pm, a reception to follow. MAYOR, Weldon Scott September 1, 1931 - November 12, 2008 We are heartbroken to announce the passing of Weldon Scott Mayor, beloved husband of Marge of Calgary, on Wednesday, November 12 at the age of 77 years. Weldon was born in Crawford Park, MB, on September 1, 1931. He was the youngest of eight children. He worked for Manitoba Hydro for many years before moving with the love of his life, Marge, and their three daughters to Calgary, where he worked for the Calgary Electric System for over twenty-five years. He lived a full life; traveling was his passion and he tried to never travel the same road twice. After a long battle with Alzheimer's, during which he never failed to amuse his family with his antics, he is now at peace. He is survived by his loving wife of fifty-three years, Marge; daughters, Maxine (Tom), Lori, Coleen (Paul); grandson Kyle and sister Harriet. He will be deeply missed. ROBERTS, Margaret (Peggy) Munro November 25, 1915 - November 10, 2008 Peggy passed away peacefully on November 10, 2008, just fifteen days before her 93rd birthday. She is lovingly remembered by her son, Donald (Brenda) Roberts, daughter, Susan (Dan) Burton; grandchildren, Dave (Kelly) Roberts, Jon (Cristela) Burton, Steve (Stacey) Burton, Tammy (Steve) Deighton; great-grandchildren, Kinley and Jace Roberts, Drake and Degan Burton and Sydney, Kyla and Avery Deighton as well as many nieces, nephews and their families. Peggy was predeceased by her husband John (Jack) in 1996, brothers, James and Robert Donald, daughters-in-law, Marilyn and Barbara Roberts. The world has lost a beautiful lady. Mom was an amazing and inspirational woman, who was dear to all who knew her. Through her courage, strength and willpower, she overcame several health challenges throughout her life, always putting her family first before herself. VIDA, Edith February 13, 1936 - November 6, 2008 Edith Vida passed away at the Foothills Medical Centre with her family by her side on November 6, 2008 at the age of 72 years. She is lovingly remembered by her husband Steve; daughters Edith, Zsuzsanna (Brad), and her grandchildren Michelle and Evan. She is also remembered by one sister and one brother in Hungary; as well as numerous nephews, nieces and cousins. FAIR, John (Jackie) McMurtrie passed away on Nov. 12th after a long battle with cancer. He is survived by his wife, Helen, whom he shared 52 wonderful years of marriage, his sister Etta, his four children; Eleanor, Jimmy, David and Steven, and his nine grandchildren who will miss their Papa. His warm smile, great sense of humour and ability to make everyone feel welcome will be sadly missed. Jackie was born in Newmains Scotland in 1932 and immigrated to Canada in 1953. He was part of the drum corp. that joined the St. Catharines Pipe Band from The World Champions Shotts and Dykehead. As a charter member of this band and their Bass Drummer, he saw them grow into the world renowned Clan MacFarlane . Jackie spent his entire working career at Thompson Products where he made many friends over his 47 years of service. Many will remember Jackie through his fellowship with Bill W. and for those lives he touched. The family would like to thank the volunteers and staff of the Niagara Hospice for their caring assistance. As well, many thanks to all those who sent cards, flowers and their prayers. In keeping with Jackie's wishes, cremation has taken place and a mass will be held at St. Mary's Church on 169 St. Paul Crescent on Saturday Nov. 15th, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. with a luncheon to follow at the Church Hall. EAGLE, Jack (John) - In loving memory of Jack (John) Eagle, 68 years. It is with great sadness that his family announces his sudden passing at his residence on Tuesday, November 11th, 2008. He is survived by his mother Bea Eagle of Sudbury, his sister Joanne Opala (Joe) of Virginatown, his niece Keitha Opala (Bill), nephew Kenny both of Sudbury and by his aunt Beth Peloski of Winnipeg. He was predeceased by his father Vernon Eagle in 1989. Jack was born in The Pas, Manitoba in 1940, and then grew up in Virginiatown. At an early age Jack got himself a paper route and other small jobs on top of being involved with the towns baseball and hockey teams. In his early teens, will into his 50's Jack was involved with curling, both as teacher, competitor, and recreational. Jack was a member of the Sudbury Curling Club for many years, and the Lively Golf and Country Club as well as a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #76 and playing darts kept his retirement busy. He retired from Falconbridge in 1994 after 31 years of service. Jack's greatest pleasure in life was spending time with his family and his friends. His motto in life was live everyday to the fullest and he did this everyday of his life, with all of us. He was a true inspiration to his niece for his hard work and kindness, always there to help others. Jack you left us so sudden, you will be greatly missed, but always in our hearts. God Bless. He will be sadly missed by many other nieces, nephews and friends. Throughout his career with INCO, Frank was a true professional. While managing INCO's Electrical Trades Training program at the Cambrian Foundation, he dedicated himself to helping Sudbury area youth develop career paths with a particular focus on apprenticeship training. As Chairman of CAREERS 2000, he volunteered tirelessly for years, bringing together representatives from local Business and Industry, Sudbury's English and French, Public and Separate Boards of Education, Cambrian College, College Boreal, Laurentian University and the Armed Forces to create opportunities for students to experience the world of work as a key part of their career decision making. The culminated in the very successful four day CAREERS 2000 Exposition held in May 1993 at Science North. Frank's dedication was recognized provincially by the Ontario School Counselors Association (OSCA) when he was awarded a Career Education Citation. Locally, Sudbury Counselors Association and the Sudbury District Guidance Heads Association made him a honourary member. Memorial service will be held at the R.J. Mrs. Georgette Agnes Bruneteau April 15, 1918 - August 16, 2008 It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and aunt, on August 16, 2008 at Taché Center. Georgette was very proud to have recently celebrated her 90th birthday with her family and friends. Georgette was a devoted and caring mother and grandmother. Her radiant smile, friendly personality, and superb sense of humor will be greatly missed by all who knew her. Georgette is survived by her daughter Elaine (Marty) and son John (Debbie); granddaughters Cindy (Dave), Kim, Kathy (Jamie), Kristy (Jason), Lynne (Frank) and Stacie (Collin); great-grandchildren Jordan, Ashley, Kaily, Kiara, Brendan, and Darian. She will be especially missed by her sisters Zoe and Emily. Thank you Auntie Zoe and Auntie Emily for all of your love. She was predeceased by her husband John, sister Rachel, and brothers Harry and Vic. Georgette was a very hard working lady. Along with her husband John they owned and operated many restaurants in St. Boniface where they made many friends. After the sale of their restaurants she then managed the kitchen at the Norwood Legion. When most people were retiring, Georgette began working for The Sisters of The Savior and the White Fathers of Africa, retiring at the age of 71. Georgette loved life and lived it to the fullest. A very special thank you to the staff and volunteers at Taché Centre. Thank you Simone for being such a caring friend. He will be deeply missed by his wife of 59 years, Gwen (Dunham) and his six children, David (Sandra) of Chatham, ON, and their three children, Sean, Elizabeth, and Lindsay, Michael (Susan) of Fredericton and their son Mitchell, Heather (Randy) Jensen of New Denmark and her two children Matthew and Natalie, Ian (Susan) of St. George, ON, and their two children Andrew and Megan Holly Steeves (Dwight Everett) of Fredericton and her two children Aaron and Brittney, Kim (Danny) Smith of Lower Coverdale and their three children Catherine Charlie and Levi, sisters; Dorothy Meldrum, Mavis Mitton, Rowena Brown and Marilyn MacKenzie, brother Donald Downey as well several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents he was predeceased by one brother Ralph 1997. Cerdic was employed at Swifts Canadian Co. Ltd, for 28 years. He was a member of the Heritage Horseman Assoc, of PEI, United States Trotting Assoc, Canadian Trotting Assoc, Albert Co. Liberal Assoc, Bridgedale Seniors Club, and Riverview Senior Bowling League. His main passions were race horses’ family and friends. His humour and smart wit will be missed by all. Nicholas William Cheveldayoff September 1, 1928 - August 18, 2008 September 1, 1928 - August 18, 2008 Nick Cheveldayoff, late of Regina, passed away peacefully on Monday, August 18, 2008 with his family by his side. He was predeceased by his parents William and Anna; brothers Fred, John and Alex and half brother Bill. Nick is survived by his wife Jeanette; daughters Susan (Jeffrey) Redekop and Sandra (Marc Lauzon) Cheveldayoff; as well as sisters-in-law and numerous nieces and nephews. Nick received his Bachelor of Science and Bachelor of Education degrees from the University of Saskatoon and his Master's of Secondary Education degree from the University of Oregon. He began his working life in Blaine Lake, SK where he became the Principal of the Blaine Lake Comprehensive High School. In 1960, he moved to Regina to teach Chemistry and Science at several high schools before becoming Vice-Principal at both Martin and Thom Collegiates and eventually the first Principal of Robert Usher Collegiate. In 2005, after receiving several academic achievement awards, Nick received the Saskatchewan Award of Merit for his outstanding contribution to Education. Nick was a kind and gentle man, as well as a caring and dedicated husband, father, friend and teacher and will be greatly missed by those who loved him. Nick's family would like to thank Dr. Moolla as well as the many health care professionals at Santa Maria Senior Citizens Home who contributed to Nick's care and comfort near the end of his life. She is survived by a brother and sister-in-law, Jerry and Sylvia Flecknor of Virden, MB; as well as sisters-in-law Jean Gilson and Barb Davies, both of Winnipeg, MB, and Marg Flecknor, of Calgary.
