GARNEAU, Amulettte 1928-2008 Le 7 novembre dernier à 23 h 33, Amulette a humblement offert son dernier souffle à Alain, Frédéric, Daniel, Parise et Jeanne, réunis à son chevet. Elle a paisiblement quitté son corps malade pour aller vers parents, amis et collègues déjà disparus. Son compagnon de longue date, Jean Cloutier; son unique fils, Alain Zouvi (Parise Mongrain); ses frères et soeurs, Monique Laurendeau (Marcel Ben-David), Francine Laurendeau (feu Aurèle Léger), Marc Laurendeau (Anne-Marie Dussault) et Daniel Laurendeau (Marie-Andrée Rioux); ses petits-enfants Juliette, Colin et Frédéric; ses neveux et nièces, Anne-Marie, Pierre, François, Andrée, Maxime et Yves; se recueillent maintenant pour s'imprégner de la force Léguée par cet être rare qui leur est si cher. REID BOUCHER, Gisèle 1926-2008 Le 8 novembre 2008, à l'âge de 82 ans, est décédée Gisèle Boucher, épouse de feu Yvon Reid. MARIT, Ken February 24, 1952 - November 7, 2008 Ken Marit, beloved husband of Kerry Colborne Marit of Cochrane, passed away suddenly on Friday, November 7 at the age of 56 years. Known for his easy smile and boundless love for his children, Ken leaves behind many friends from the varied aspects of his full life. Ken was the oldest son of a SW Saskatchewan farm family and like many of his contemporaries hockey was a lifelong passion. His father Lorne drove Ken and his brothers to the local hockey rink every day of the winter and from an early age Ken excelled. He later played with the Regina Pats and the Des Moines Iowa Capitals until a shoulder injury ended his hockey career in 1973. Ken's love of hockey would remain though and surface again as he raised his three boys, all of whom were active in Cochrane minor hockey. Ken moved from the family farm to Calgary in 1981 to work in commercial sales to the gas services industry. He recently retired to devote his full-time energies to managing the relocation and expansion of Marit Stables, the business he ran jointly with wife Kerry. With the expansion completed he and Kerry looked forward to travelling further afield for equestrian shows and events. Kerry and their daughter Augusta are both accomplished equestrians and helping them realize their dreams was an important part of Ken's life. For the past few years Ken has been known as the "Marit dad" in Cochrane Cobra high school football. All three of his boys have played and excelled in the fine Cobra program and Ken's steady hand was a support for many of the outstanding young men involved. Ken was a man of quiet strength. He worked hard to provide a good life for his wife and family. He loved his children Justin, Adam, Augusta and Jack and his recently deceased daughter Danielle, without limit. Special friends of his children like Alicia, Brittany, and many, many others were like family to him. Ken is predeceased by his father Lorne and daughter Danielle. He will be missed by his mother Cecile Marit, brothers Doug and his wife Jo (all of Willow Bunch, SK), Rick and wife Deena (of Fife Lake, SK) and Grant and wife Carol (of Assiniboia, SK) and their children, together with the families of his brothers-in-law Paul (Janice) Colborne and J.D. (Kim) Colborne and sister-in-law Carmen (Greg Kletke) Colborne. Over the years Ken was a kind and caring son-in-law to Diana Colborne of Cochrane and he leaves behind numerous special aunts, uncles and cousins and scores of close friends. ABBOTT, Douglas Harrison (Hoolihan) 1961 - 2008 Douglas Harrison (Hoolihan) Abbott of Medicine Hat, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, November 8, 2008 at the age of 46 years. Doug was born on December 7, 1961 in Ottawa, Ontario. At a young age, he moved with his family to Calgary where he graduated from Central Memorial High School in 1979. Following high school he attended the U of A for three years, studying engineering. Doug was self motivated and operated his own painting business before working for Andres' Winery in Calgary. Previously being self employed was of interest to Doug, so, with his intellect and determination, he started a business in the oil service industry with branches in Calgary and later, Medicine Hat. He was mechanically inclined and enjoyed working on his cars and go-karts. As a perfectionist, all of his "toys" ran smoothly, including the model train sets that he set up in great detail. He was proud of his son, Max and moved to Medicine Hat to be close to him. This was a move that proved to be beneficial for both Max and Doug. He was a fun loving man who cared deeply for his family and friends. Although a private man by nature, those who knew him will remember him for his light-hearted ways and great sense of humor. His spirit will live on in the hearts of his family including his mother, Lois (James) Abbott of Calgary and father, Harrison Douglas Hoolihan of Ottawa; his son whom he was very proud of, Max (McKinley) Keyko of Medicine Hat along with his mother, Holly; brothers and sisters, Sandy (Chris) Stephens of Calgary, David (Isabelle) Abbott of Medicine Hat, Heather (Gary) Foucault of Calgary, Daniel (Orlene) Abbott of Kelowna, Brian (Kim) Abbott of Falkland, B.C. and Linda Abbott (George) of Richmond, B.C. as well as numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives. DEMIANIUK, Riann Danielle 2008-11-12 On the morning of November 8th, as the sun began to rise, and the first few snowflakes fell, baby Riann took her last breath while her parents held her hands. At the tender age of six months, Riann Danielle Demianiuk passed away unexpectedly in the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre. Riann brought light and joy to everyone in her life with her contagious smile and bright eyes. Riann will be forever loved and missed by parents Chris and Danielle and big sister Derian. She is survived by grandparents Alfred and Lea, Yvette (Ken), Mike (Cindy); step-grandparents Gordon (Molly), Gerald (Helena); great-grandparents Lisa, Richard & Viola, Pat, Gerry, Mitch (Mary). Also remembering Riann are aunts and uncles Corey & Jessie (Molly & Owen), Andrew, Jason, Crystal (Sammy, Bobbi, Molly), Sandra, Stephen & Jasmine (Rhys & Jocelyn), Derek & Colleen (Elizabeth & Cameron); and so many other relatives in the extended families. BOGART-Morley Bogart February 10, 1934 November 10, 2008 Morley Lionel Eugene Bogart of Abernethy, Saskatchewan With heavy hearts the family of Morley Bogart of Abernethy, announce his passing. Morley accepted his battle with cancer with serenity. Morley and Joan (Noble) celebrated 49 years of marriage; they were married in May, 1959. They were blessed with three children: Ron (living in Abernethy), Lois (married to Mike Ross and living in Calgary), and David (married to Sharon and living in Balcarres). Morley loved his grandkids and greatgrandkids: Tonia & Clint Labash of Regina and their children Cayley and Mackenzie; Kurt Bogart of Edmonton; Emily, Anna, Gregory and Christopher Ross of Calgary; Debra and Kayla Bogart of Kelowna, Kim Linnen of Lloydminster, Jennah Bogart and Chris Linnen of Balcarres. Morley was predeceased by his parents Les and Myrtle Bogart and his older brother Warren. He is survived by his sister-in-law Peg Bogart of Calgary, his sister Florence Hall of Regina and his brother Jack Bogart (Catherine) of Maple Ridge, B.C. Morley thrived on being with other people and could put anyone at ease, the true gift of a salesperson. His sales career was varied: Morley sold cars, insurance, real estate, bulk fuel and lived his life in Saskatchewan towns: Tuxford, Abernethy, Regina, Balcarres, Moose Jaw. For Morley, interacting with people was not work, it was his passion. Morley volunteered as a driver with the Balcarres ambulance and taught Driver's Education at the high school in Balcarres. Morley enjoyed sports, a game of cards, having a coffee and a visit, but most important, he enjoyed people. Morley had the genuine gift of making everyone feel welcome and important. He will be missed. Morley requested that he not have a formal funeral. There will be a family graveside service at the Abernethy Cemetery on Thursday, November 13 at 1:30 p.m. Following the family service everyone is welcome to share memories and a coffee at the Abernethy Hall at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, please give to the charity of your choice. Laurette was predeceased by her parents Theodule and Marie Landry; her husband Henry Carrier; sisters Germaine Landry and Marianne Wilvers; and brothers Roger and Paul Landry. She will be lovingly remembered by her beloved nephew Emile (Lorraine) Wilvers and their family Keith (Leena) and Dan (Jen); her sisters: Marie-Rose Beaulac, Cecile Nissen, Lorraine Stocking, Margaret Boutin and Vivian Hirsch; brothers: Johnny Landry, Marcel Landry and Eugene Landry; and her step-mother Flora Gervais. GELLVEAR-Margaret Catherine (Peggy) of Victoria, BC, formerly of Regina, passed away November 6, 2008 at the age of 85 after a brief battle with cancer. She is survived by daughter Janice (Bud Ast); sons Bruce (Marla) children Joel, Janelle, Lauryn; Paul (Darlene) children Gilles and Sean as well as numerous nieces, nephews in England. Peggy was born on November 29, 1922 in Wallasey, Cheshire, England. There she attended school and during WWII was in the WAAF. In 1950, while working as a housekeeper, she met and then married Peter Gellvear. Seeking adventure, they immigrated to Canada in 1954, eventually settling in Regina. They retired to Victoria in 1983 and fully enjoyed this new chapter in their lives. A friend to many, Peggy lived a full and active life which kept her years younger. Peggy's Love Peter passed away in 1994. In 1996 Peggy met Bill Dibb and her lonely days were filled with companionship until his passing. She returned and worked as the Maternity Head Nurse at Emanuel Hospital and Medical Centre in Portland until her retirement in 1977. Irene returned to Regina at the age of 80 where she spent her time visiting friends and family. JOHNSTON, George Edward 1911 2008 George was born on April 23 (St. George's Day) near Wetaskiwin, Alberta, the elder son of Edward Blake and Ida Amanda. He passed peacefully, surrounded by his loving family, on Saturday, November 8th at Saanich Peninsula Hospital. He enjoyed many years on his daughter Marion's farm where he lived and reawakened his love of animals and nature. He is predeceased by his devoted wife Catharine (2000) and sisters Isabelle, Vera, and Helen. George leaves behind his brother Bob of Brentwood Bay, five children: Bill (Sylvia), Marion McLeod (Jack), Don (Rebecca), Dorothy Picotte (Joe) and Ken (Paulette), 11 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren (soon to be nine). George served in the RCAF during WWII off Canada's east coast. After the war, he rejoined International Harvester Company working in Wetaskiwin, Edmonton and finally as Service Manager in Vancouver where he retired. His strong faith and membership in the United Church of Canada sustained him throughout his long life. A service of remembrance will be held at St. Paul's United Church in Sidney at 11:30 AM on Saturday, November 15th. POLDERMAN, Marcel August 29, 1952 November 7, 2008 Passed away in Hospice with his loving wife, Marjan, by his side. Marcel was predeceased by his parents. He will be sadly missed by Marjan, his brothers Bing and Dick and their families, his family overseas, as well as numerous friends. Marcel was born in Holland and came to Canada at age 3. Most of his life he lived in Victoria, but while visiting Holland met Marjan. They married in 1998 and shared ten loving years together. Marcel worked 20 years in the real estate business. He took great pleasure in helping clients to buy and sell their homes. He was an honest, caring, knowledgeable person who had great integrity and spoke with conviction. He loved all sports, both playing and watching. Travelling and nature and capturing them on film was a joy to him. Special thanks and respect to the Cancer Clinic, Home Care and Hospice. MAGALLON, Alfredo ("Al") December 24, 1924 - November 8, 2008 It is with great sadness that the family and friends of Alfredo Magallon announce his sudden passing on Saturday, November 8, 2008. Al was a true warrior in his battle with cancer. He was born in Mexico City on December 24, 1924 and later moved with his family to California. He served with the US Navy in WWII, surviving the kamikaze bombing of the USS Suwannee in 1944. His talent and love of music led to a career as a musician backing up many of the great singers in locations including Las Vegas and Hawaii. Later in life, Al turned his creative talent to the movie industry as a make-up artist where his many movie credits include "Texas Rangers", "Betrayed", "Fire With Fire" and "The Fourth War" as well as many television credits including "North of 60". In his retirement years, he won the hearts of all ages as he played his music at local cafes in Calgary. Al enjoyed a life rich with music and friendship. When we remember him, we will smile though our hearts are aching. He will be dearly missed by so many. A special thank you to Dr. Thaell, Marcia, Sue, and all the caring nurses that he charmed over the past year. FOX, Gary “Foxy” William Russell - At home, on Thursday, November 6, 2008, at age 54, Gary passed away after a long, brave battle with cancer. MYCIAK, Dmytro - Passed away peacefully at the Welland Hospital on Tuesday November 11, 2008, in his 89th year. Beloved husband of Mary. Loving father of Joseph (Brunina), Eugene (Mary Lou Blatchley), and Lesa. Proud grandfather of Alexander, Nicholas, Christina and Peter. Born in Ukraine, Dmytro left his homeland to work in Germany during the Second World War. There he met and married his wife, Mary, of 62 years. Together they moved to England to begin a new life. Four years after the birth of their first son, they immigrated to Canada and settled in Welland, near Dmytro's brother, Theodore and his family. He worked at Stelpipe (Page Hersey) for most of his life and was a long supporting parishioner of St. Michael the Archangel Ukrainian Catholic Church. The Myciak family will receive their friends at J.J. Patterson & Sons Funeral Residence 19 Young Street, Welland on Thursday from 2-4 and 7-9 pm where Panachyda will be sung at 7 pm. The Funeral Liturgy will be celebrated on Friday November 14, 2008 at 10 o'clock, at St. Michael the Archangel Ukrainian Catholic Church. Rite of Committal will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery. PROCEE, Minke (Taekema) - In her 91st year, with her loving family by her side, Minke Taekema Procee passed away at the Royal Victoria Hospital, Barrie, Ontario on October 28, 2008. Beloved wife of Titus Procee who passed away in October 1997 after 58 years of marriage. Dear mother of Elisabeth, Teena, Maaike (Robert Lines), Stephanie, and Marcella (Allan Benson). Pre-deceased by sons Jack (Jacob) and Sidney (Sijtze). She will be remembered fondly by ten grandchildren and five great grandchildren. Minke Taekema was born in Bergum, Friesland, The Netherlands and emigrated with Titus and their five children to build a new life in Canada in 1953. CRAIG, William Robert May 18, 1931 - November 2, 2008 It is with great sorrow that we announce the death of William Robert Craig on November 2, 2008. He will be forever in the hearts of his beloved wife Mary; his sister Eileen; his children Mark, Brent (Khang), Sandra (Andrew), Jon (Joowon) and his adored grandchildren Meghan, Hannah, Zoe, Josh, Aaron, Robbie and Rebekah. He will be greatly missed by his extended family of sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law and his many nieces and nephews. Bob retired from Petro-Canada after a thirty-seven year career. He enjoyed a fulfilling retirement which included extensive travelling with his wife Mary. Some of his favourite destinations included the British Isles, France and New Zealand which became the subject of his many water colour paintings. He also enjoyed flyfishing, wood carving and furniture making. It was Bob's wish not to have a Funeral. Instead a gathering of his children and grandchildren will take place in the spring, at Brent's farm in British Columbia, to plant a tree in his memory and scatter his ashes underneath it. ANDERSON, Raymond M A 3 December 1930 6 November 2008 Ray died peacefully at the Victoria Hospice in the presence of his family after a short but courageous battle with cancer. He was born on the family farm near Frenchman's Butte, Saskatchewan and was predeceased by his father Oscar and mother Mary. He is survived by his wife Sylvia (nee Shearer), sons Ross and Gordon (Norma), his daughter Janet, his granddaughters Karyn, Melissa and Alisha. He also leaves behind his sister Estelle, her sons Robin (Patty) and Rick (Sandra), his sister-in-law Norma Shearer and many aunts, uncles, nephews and nieces. Growing up in rural Saskatchewan, Ray began teaching before going on to study at the University of Saskatchewan, Saskatoon and then the University of British Columbia in Vancouver. There, he studied physics and joined the Canadian Officers' Training Corps, gaining his commission in the Royal Canadian Artillery in 1952, and graduating two years later. He served widely in Canada and Germany, latterly as an Air Observation Post pilot and instructor. Leaving the Canadian Army as a captain in 1964, Ray and his family moved to Victoria where he resumed his career in education. He taught and tutored many students before deciding to retrain in the new field of computing. After a course of study at the University of Victoria, he then began to work for the Provincial Government as a computer programmer and later as a systems analyst. There, he made a large personal contribution to the transformation of the Government Superannuation and Vehicle Licensing systems from a paper-based to electronic operation. He finally retired from the BC Systems Corporation in 1995 after many years of dedicated and successful service. Ray will be remembered for all those he knew for his kindness, patience and generosity. He was married to Sylvia in Winnipeg in 1957 and they celebrated 51 years of happiness together. He was a highly accomplished musician, playing the accordion from youth, and had an abiding interest in current affairs and science. He had many fond memories of his service in 1 RCHA, especially in Iserlohn, Germany as well as flying with the Air OP. He was a member of Mensa and the Air OP Association. He was extremely proud of his children and was especially supportive of all their activities. A devoted husband, father and grandfather, he will be greatly missed by his family and many friends. Ray's family would like to pass on their deepest thanks to the staff of the Victoria Hospice for their care and consideration. There will be no service by request, but a celebration of Ray's life will be held in early 2009. SCHABEL-It is with great sadness that the family announces the sudden passing of beloved husband, father and Geegee, Walter Eugene Schabel, on November 8, 2008 at the Yorkton Regional Health Centre.Walter was born June 27, 1932 in the District of Beckenham, SK, the oldest son of Alex and Mary (nee Sereda) Schabel.Walter received his early schooling at Kitzul and West Bend Schools. When his family moved to the Ituna area he continued his schooling at St. Anne's Orphanage, Ituna School and St. Joseph's College in Yorkton.At the age of 19, Walter moved to Sudbury, ON to work for a time but the prairie called him home. He headed first to Lucky Lake where he worked as a grain buyer then to Regina where he worked as a Corrections Officer at the Regina Jail. On October 5, 1957 he was united in marriage to Mary Sobchuk. They continued to reside in Regina where Walter worked as a Social Aid Worker with the City of Regina, and then with Social Services for the Government. In 1970, Walter and his family relocated to the family farm north of Ituna. After farming for a few years, Walter accepted employment as a Manager with the Canada Farm Labour Pool in Yorkton. During this time he was appointed a Commissioner of Oaths and a Notary Public and provided accounting services. This led Walter to realize his goal of being self employed and he established Schabel's Agencies Inc., in 1979.Walter's community-mindedness began early in life and prompted him to be a contributing member wherever he resided. As a parishioner of St. Basil's Ukrainian Catholic Church in Regina, he served actively on the Executive Building Committee, as Financial Secretary, and as President of the Ukrainian Catholic Brotherhood. He was proud to be a Charter Member of the Knights of Columbus, Bishop Budka Council of Regina, for over 50 years. He served on the Saskatchewan Arts Board for 4 years, was President of the Regina East Liberals, 2nd Vice president of the Catholic Family Service Society, and Campaign Chairman for St. Joseph's College for Regina City.Walter's deep love and respect for his Ukrainian roots permeated his life. He served as President of the Ukrainian Canadian Congress, Regina Branch. During his tenure the executive was successful in having Regina City Council support the declaration of Ukrainian Independence Day and fly the Ukrainian flag over City Hall. He also served on the Board of Directors of the Regina Ukrainian Co-op Assn. He was active in the Ukrainian Canadian Professional and Business Assn, the Ukrainian National Aid Assn. of America, and was, for 30 years, a Director with the Ukrainian Mutual Benefit Assn. of St. Nicholas for the Province of Saskatchewan.Walter felt education and contributing to one's community were very important. He was elected Reeve of the Municipality of Bon Accord #246 for 2 consecutive terms, served as a Trustee on the Ituna Local School Board for 10 years, and then as a Unit Trustee with Deer Park School Div. for 4 years. He was the Liberal Candidate, in 1970, for the Touchwood Constituency. Throughout his contributing years Walter was involved in numerous local organizations. He held an honourary life membership in the Saskatchewan Liberal Assn. At the time of his passing, he was actively involved on the 2010 Ituna History Book Committee.Walter was a kind, humble, huge-hearted man who earned respect by extending it to others. His love of family was demonstrated in the pride he felt in the accomplishments of his children and grandchildren. He was a zealous reader of history, politics and things Ukrainian. He was well versed in current events, always enjoying lively banter and conversation.Walter was predeceased by his parents, Alex and Mary, sister, Ann (in infancy), sister-in-law, MaryAnn Schabel and brothers-in-law, John and Harry Sobchuk. He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife of 51 years, Mary, 3 children and 6 grandchildren: Alex and sons, Jordan and Justin, Barb (Leonard) Kuschak and children Lyrissa, Danielle, Landon and Dylan, and Cathy. WINSLOW-Grace Blanche of Regina passed away peacefully on Sunday, November 09, 2008 at the age of 90 years. Grace was predeceased by her husband, Paul, in 1978. She was also predeceased by her parents William and Mabel Blackwell, sister-in-law Alta Blackwell, father and mother-in-law Walter and Amanda Winslow, brothers-inlaw and sisters-in-law Gerry Fafard, Roland and Bernie Winslow, Roger and Pauline Winslow, John and Julie Lindstrom. Grace will lovingly be remembered by her daughter Reta (Gordon) Arnell of Calgary and son Gary (Janice) Winslow of Regina; grandchildren Patrick (Janet) Arnell, Kevin (Diane) Arnell, Paul (Sarah) Arnell, Dana (Jason) Fleury, Blake Winslow and Doug Winslow; and ten great grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother Lloyd (Dorothy) Blackwell of Assiniboia and sister-in-law Gabrielle Fafard of Stoughton, as well as numerous nieces, nephews and extended relatives. Paul and Grace retired to Comox, B.C. in 1971 and after Paul's death in 1978, Grace moved to Regina. Her love of music inspired her to learn to play the piano and subsequently the organ without any formal training and provided her with many hours of enjoyment. She also spent many hours volunteering at the hospital's in Swift Current and Comox. Grace was also an active member of the CWL for many years. The family would like to thank the staff at Wildrose Personal Care Home for their compassion and care during the last four years of her life while she struggled with Alzheimer's disease. A Funeral Mass and service in loving memory of Grace will be held on Friday, November 14, 2008 at 1:00 pm, at Christ the King R.C. Church, 3239 Garnet Street, Regina, with Rev. Ramon Claro presiding. CAPELESS, Roger - 1938-2008 - It is with extreme sadness the passing of Roger Capeless in Toronto. He leaves behind his family, wife of 49 and a half years Norah (nee Richardson). His daughters Debbie (Neil Finnerty) of Windsor, Delores (Jean- Marc Roy) of Schumacher and son Bruce (Alma Hicks) of Edmonton. His 3 pride and joy grandsons, Taylor Finnerty, Kelsey Capeless-Roy and Draythany Capeless. Dear brother of Denis Conroy (Carole) of Winnipeg. His brother-in-law Jim (Slim) Richardson (Lynne) who he was like a father to since slim was 14. He was also like a grandfather to Slim's 2 sons, Shane and Ryan Richardson. He was predeceased by his brother-in-law Ron Richardson (Theresa) (2002), his parents Jennie (1974) & Merrick Capeless, brother Raymond, Beatrice Fleetman. Roger worked a few years in the mine but his love was trucking. He started at the age of 18. He was a member of the million mile club. He drove trucks for 50 years. He also worked years with Crazy Jerry. He was loved by his friend Gerry Krofchick, Wilf Larabie and is missed by his cat Min Min. Roger came to know his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ a year ago. He had a kidney transplant on Jan. of 2007 after being on dialysis for 8 years. Roger died with his family by his side. A funeral service will be held on Friday, November 14, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. from the Miron-Wilson Funeral Chapel (Pastor Darryl Hartwig officiating). In lieu of flowers, remembrance donations to the Kidney Foundation or the First Baptist Church Food Bank would be appreciated.
