McCABE, Allister - With broken hearts, the family of Allister McCabe, age 74, of Oil Springs, announces his passing after a brief battle with cancer at Victoria Hospital, London on Saturday, November 8, 2008. Dear husband of Adrien (Greenaway) McCabe and the late Morag (Duncan) McCabe (1982). Loving father of Allister (Cathy) McCabe, Shirley McCabe, Heather (Mike) Lotz, Sean (Elysabeth) McCabe, Sarah McCabe, Shannon (Nigel) Moore and Zack (Megan) Moore. Eight grandchildren and several nieces and nephews also survive. Brother of Bea, Carol and Margaret and brother-in-law of Helen. Son-in-law of Kay and Lawrence Greenaway. Born in Dundee, Scotland, Allister came to Canada in 1965 and retired as the Chief of the Point Edward Police Force after 30 years of service. He was an avid golfer and soccer fan and was a member of the 4 Star Club. Predeceased by his parents Jean and David McCabe and brothers Alec, David and Robert and daughter-in-law Crystal. Funeral services will be held from the Chapel of the D.J. ROBB FUNERAL HOME on Thursday, November 13th at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Lakeview Cemetery. LOONEY, Marion Dell Verity (Laing) - Peacefully at her residence, Hazelton Place, Toronto, on Friday, October 31, 2008 in her 100th year. Predeceased by her husbands, Reginald Emery Verity (Brantford), Fred Peters (Tulsa) and Harold Looney (Tulsa). Marion leaves her daughters Sondra Verity (Howard Annis) and Isabelle Rolph (Michael), six grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren. Marion was born in Brantford, Ontario and was recognized as one of Canada's leading operatic sopranos of her time. At the early age of ten, she won the gold medal in competition at the Canadian National Exhibition. On graduation, Marion went on to a 20 year operatic career giving concerts across Canada, the USA and Europe. Her mentor was the world renowned Canadian tenor, Edward Johnson, with whom she often sang in concert. Marion was very proud of her Canadian heritage and highlights of her career included appearances as guest soloist with the Canadian choir, specifically when they sang at Albert Hall in London, England, and her many invitations to Ottawa by Prime Minister Mackenzie King, appearing as guest soloist at Government House. Following the untimely death of her husband, Reg Verity, Marion married Fred Peters and moved to Tulsa, Oklahoma, in 1965. Along with Fred, Marion then became active in the Tulsa Opera Company and the Tulsa Philharmonic Orchestra. Following Fred's death, Marion stayed in Tulsa and married Harold. After Harold's death, she moved back to Toronto in 2000 to join daughters and their families. MANLEY, Patricia Ann “Patsy” - Patsy went to be with the Lord on Monday November 10th, 2008 at Maple Park Lodge in Fort Erie just after her 61st birthday. Survived by siblings Eleanor (Hugh) Rogers of St. Catharines, Martha (George) Wiebe of Stevensville and Jim (Pat) Manley of Fort Erie. Also survived by brother-in-law Mark Furness of St. Catharines. Patsy was a special aunt of Christine Pirson of Toronto, Daniel Rogers of Merritt British Columbia, Stephen Rogers of Toronto, Kevin, Heather and Melissa Wiebe of Stevensville. She is survived by three great nephews Josiah, Noah and Elijah Rogers. Patsy was predeceased by her parents Frank (1982) and Muriel (2006) Manley and sister Ruth Furness (Manley) (2005). Patsy had a strong will to live, even surviving many days without eating or drinking. The battle was three weeks long, honey, but the victory has been won. BAKER, Wilbert Armstrong (Bert) Died peacefully at the Hilltop Manor, Merrickville on Saturday, November 8, 2008, in his 84th year. Beloved husband of Mildred Baker (nee Wilson). Cherished father of Siobhan Baker, Lanark and Shelagh Baker, Toronto and father-in-law of Steve Davis, Lanark and Alan Torrance, Toronto. Dear grandfather of Lachlan and Callum Torrance, Toronto. Son of the late Ivan and Leafy (nee Dizzell) Baker. Predeceased by his sister Muriel Park. Bert was well known and respected for his personal ethics and values. Throughout his life he cared deeply about the welfare of other people, animals, and the natural environment. His actions embodied those of a "good Samaritan", demonstrating extreme generosity to animals and his fellow man. COUGHLIN, Mark Richard It is with a heavy heart and great sadness that we announce the death of Mark Richard Coughlin aged 48. Our beloved son, brother, father and uncle died suddenly on Friday, November 7, 2008. Mark left behind a family who loved him dearly and his two lovely daughters Chelsea Pearl and Maggie Rose who he adored with all his heart. The last few years of Mark's life were difficult and though our lives will never be the same and he will be sorely missed, we believe that he has now found peace. A Memorial Service will be held at 7 p.m. on Thursday, November 13th at Richelieu Vanier Community Centre, (Marier St. off Beechwood to 300 des Peres-Blancs Ave.). DAVIES, June Isobel (nee Mann) 1922 - 2008 Peacefully at the Perley Rideau Health Centre on November 9, 2008 after a long battle with kidney failure. June is fondly remembered as a wonderful, caring wife, mother and grandmother. She will be sadly missed by husband John (retired RCAF Colonel), daughter Barbara Savage, son Peter (Gail Cornfield) and her grandchildren, Laura, Lianne, Samantha and Alexandre. She is pre-deceased by sisters Ruth and Kathleen, brother Murney, dear mother Naomi and father Robert. June lived life to the fullest, travelling the world as both a military wife and a retired lady of leisure. She had a true gift for making others feel special and loved. She dedicated many hours of her free time to various charities, in particular, as a CHEO volunteer. To the end she demonstrated a tenacity of spirit, a concern for her family and an infectious sense of humour. Special thanks to the doctors, nurses and the rest of the health care team at the Perley Rideau and the Civic Dialysis Unit, and to a super group of transporters at Ambulet. A celebration of June's life will be held at the Perley & Rideau Veterans' Health Centre Chapel, 1750 Russell Rd, on Thursday, November 13th at 2 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Kidney Foundation or the Perley Rideau Veterans' Health Centre will be appreciated. FITZGERALD, Michael Joseph Passed away peacefully in the hospital on Saturday, November 8th, 2008 at the age of 89. Beloved husband of 63 years of Theresa. Loving father of Edward, William (Robin), Maureen (Fraser Howard), Michael (Maureen), Peter (Susan) and Carol McDermott (Dirk). Proud grandfather of Bree, Michael, Chuck, Jonathan, Theresa, Daniel, Sean, Katie, Megan, Kevin, Katie and Jack. Survived by his sisters Sr. Kenneth and Eileen McLean, his sisters-in-law Eva and Sr. Loretta as well as his brother-in-law Bill. Mike was born in Rosetown, Saskatchewan. He served his country overseas in WWII volunteering with the Rosetown 67th Artillery Battery in 1941. He went to cadet school and became a commissioned officer, completing his tour with distinction at the war's end in 1945. Mike graduated from the University of Saskatchewan in 1950 and began a lifelong career with the Canadian Federal Government. He was appointed to serve with the Food and Agricultural Organization, United Nations in Rome, Italy in 1956 and returned to Canada to serve as Director under the Prairie Farm Rehabilitation Act where he was Chief Administrator of the Gardiner Dam project. In 1974 he retired to begin a new career as an agricultural consultant in Lesotho and Tanzania. The family would like to thank the staff of the ICU at Ottawa General Campus Hospital, Rideau Place, St. Elizabeth Health Care and Retire-at-Home for their care. RAIL, Arthur A. Peacefully in hospital on Sunday, November 9, 2008 at the age of 84. Beloved husband of Farrelldine. Proud father of Peter, Cynthia, Tony, Juhli, Maria and Janice. Also survived by grandchildren Aaron, Julia, Danie, Sheaon, Alex, Madeleine, Nigel and Emma and great granddaughter Charlotte. Recently predeceased by his brother Ronald. Although Arthur worked as an accountant for many years, his first love was music. He had been a bass player with big bands and jazz ensembles in Ottawa and Gatineau. He had also been a member of the Ottawa Symphony Orchestra. Cremation has taken place. A private gathering of family and friends will be held to celebrate his life. Special thanks to the ICU staff at the Civic Hospital, as well as to the dialysis units at both the Riverside and the Civic Hospitals. WHITE, G. Russell It is with deep and profound sorrow that we announce the passing of our dearest father, G. Russell White, on November 7th, 2008, at the Ottawa Hospital, with his eldest son John in attendance. Our grief is compounded by the fact that his wife of 59 years, Jane "Jordan" White (nee Appleton) passed away August 28, 2007. Russell is survived by his eldest son John, fraternal twins Robert Gordon and Barbara Ann White, and eldest daughter Holly and her husband Ray Schut who bestowed upon Russ and Jane the pride and joy of being grandparents to Shannon and Sarah. Russell was predeceased by his eminent brother Jack (of Florida), and survived by his three distinguished sisters Peggy Harvey, Joan MacDougall, and Connie Anderson. Born in 1925, Russell grew up in the Lawrence Park area of Toronto and served as a Leading Aircraftman in the Royal Canadian Air Force from 1943-1946 (earning the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal). Russell married Jane in 1948, graduated with a B.A. from the University of Toronto in 1949, and earned his professional accreditation as a Chartered Accountant in 1958. Russell's career was distinguished by significant contributions to Massey Ferguson and Rio-Algom Mines in Toronto, and (from 1971-1990) Canada Revenue Agency in Ottawa.
