Bob Hoekstra Bob Hoekstra passed away after a courageous battle with cancer at the South Bruce Grey Health Centre, Durham on Thursday, November 6, 2008. Beloved husband of the former Margaret Talbot. Loving father of Kim and her husband Dale Robinson, Tim Hoekstra and his wife Tracey, and Joan and her husband Jerry Callahan. Cherished grandfather of Elisha, Adam, Andrew, Christopher, Benjamin, Julia, Aiden and the late Gabriele. Dear brother of John Hoekstra and his wife Harmke, Audrey Gordon, Anne Vellinga and Jenny Fretz. Visitation was held at the McCulloch-Watson Funeral Home, 166 Bruce St. North, Durham on Saturday from 2-4 pm and 7-9 pm and Sunday from 2-4 pm and 7-9 p.m. Funeral Service was held at the Revealed Word Tabernacle, Allan Park on Monday morning at 11 am. Pastor Dan Olsen officiated and Valerie Keeble played the piano. The congregation sang, “In the Sweet By and By,” “When We See Christ” and “Amazing Grace.” Sarah Graham sang, “Be Not Afraid,” and Paul Callahan, Jerry Callahan and Sarah Graham sang, “O Come, Angel Band.” Joan Callahan played, “How Great Thou Art.” Words of remembrance were given by Tim Hoekstra. The flower bearers were Adam Hoekstra, Andrew Callahan, Chris Hoekstra, Ben Callahan, Julia Hoekstra and Elisha Robinson. The pallbearers were Dale Robinson, Jerry Callahan, Mike Champagne, Jeff Flanagan, Rod Kroeplin and Bernie Wagner. Interment was held at Durham Cemetery. DOMPIERRE, Juliette Albina June 03, 1912 - Nov 09, 2008 Juliette was born in Crysler Ontario to Omer and Albertine Trudeau. She graduated from nursing at Sacred Heart Hospital in Hull in 1933, working there and at the provincial psychiatric facility in Brockville. She later returned to Montfort Hospital on the maternity ward, until 1972, but really, she nursed until near the end of her life, as she always was caring for someone in need. She married Aldege Dompierre, who had a long career at the NRC, and had two daughters, Odette (Ottawa) and Lyse (Vancouver with Bob Phillips). She was widowed in 1975, moving then to Chateau Vanier, where she learned to swim and play bridge, as well as bowling and travelling, activities that kept her happily busy until the challenge of daily living prompted a move to Ogilvie Villa, where she continued to increase her circle of friends. Due to failing health, she moved in 2007 to Montfort extended care home. The eldest of her family, she is survived by her sister Claudette McLean (Ottawa), having been pre-deceased by Rene, Laurette, Leo, Gabrielle, Jean and Henri. The family wishes to thank Montfort Extended Care Home. A celebration of her life will be held at a later date. Arrangements entrusted to Serge Legault Funeral Home. Remembrance Day November 11, 2008 ALBERT ERNEST ALLNUTT 1908 -1995 Veteran of WWII, Royal Canadian Artillery, First Survey Regiment. Dad signed up in September 1939 when he was thirty-two years old. He married our mother (Helen) in April 1940. Landing in England in September 1940, he spent three years training there. He landed in Sicily, in the fall of 1943, and from January 1944 till February 1945 fought in Italy. He was among the first to return after V-E day. OBITUARY Keith McKeown Born in Montreal, October 15, 1943. Died at home in Mississauga, November 9, 2008, displaying his usual dignity and humour while surrounded by his family. Keith is survived by his loving wife Eva and daughter Agatha (Peter Cheasley) of Beaconsfield, Que. He will be sadly missed by his brother Ross (Geri), of Toronto, their sons Bradley and Grant and nieces Alix and Katie, his sister Wendy (Ian Poole) of Lake Placid, NY, and children Todd (Tracey), Debbi and Ryan. Keith possessed natural athletic skills that served him well in his youth and people management skills that contributed to his successful career. He traveled the world organizing and managing the accommodation and catering aspects of major construction projects. Keith was the General Manager of the Beaconsfield Golf Club in Pointe Claire, and, more recently, the Markland Woods Golf Club in Etobicoke, Ont. Personal thanks to Grant MacDonald and Dr. Cardella as well as everyone at The Princess Margaret Hospital and the Mississauga CCAC. Visitation on Saturday, November 15, at noon, Turner & Porter Funeral Home, 1981 Dundas W, Mississauga, service at 1 p.m., followed by a reception at 2:30 at The Markland Woods Golf Club, 245 Markland Drive, Etobicoke. Husband of the late Gertrude (Gertie) (nee Graham). Dear father of Leith Graham, Dartmouth, N.S.; Wendall (Judy) MacLeod, Ontario; Cheryl (Ron) Phillips, Ontario; Glenn (Kathy) MacLeod, Cambridge; Alana (LeMoyne) White, Gaspereaux; and Boyd (Wendy) MacLeod, Charlottetown. Loving grandfather of 12 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Also survived by his brothers Albert (Myrtle), Harry (Elaine) and by his sister Mae (Chet) Irving. Predeceased by his grandson Jeremy, by his brothers Howard and Roy and by his sister Janie Kerwin. MANN, Gladys May (Sally) - With sadness the family announces the passing of our treasured matriarch Sally Mann, on Monday, November 10th, 2008 on Finlandia Koti in her 93rd year. She was predeceased by her darling husband and sweetheart George Mann (1971) and her beloved son Peter Mann (1995). Sally's long and wonderful life began in Devon, England. The daughter of Martha and Joseph Richards, they and her brothers and sisters all predeceased her. Sally was an avid world traveler, a joy which began as a member of the Corinthians Cycling Club. She began her career as a bookkeeper for W.H. Smith and during the war years was a traveling manageress for them. Sally, George and their two children immigrated in 1955 settling in Willowdale where Sally was employed in the library department of the North York Board of Education. In 1964 they ventured to Sudbury. Sally became office manager at Sudbury Medical Associated until the untimely death of George when she took over his business, Fournier Insurance. A social butterfly, Sally loved to entertain and travel. She had a great sense of humour and was very competitive when playing boggle, scrabble or cards. Quietly she enjoyed crosswords, reading and was renown for her beautiful pansies. She was a dedicated member of the Order of Eastern Star, Algoma Chapter #139. Sally will be greatly missed by her daughter Petrna husband John Brown. Her grandsons Michael & Julie Lawrie (Tennessee), Steven & Sheryl Lawrie (Sudbury) her great grandchildren Samantha Lawrie (Val Caron), Megan Lawrie (Sudbury) and Ross Ketron (Tennessee. She will also be missed by her Sister-in-law Margaret Bradshaw (England), her special angel on earth, Lise Plourde and many nieces, nephews and cousins in Toronto, England and various places around the world. OBITUARY GAVIN SCOTT Gavin Scott, 72, who travelled the world as a foreign correspondent for Time magazine, died in his sleep at his home in Georgeville on November 6. The son of Professor R.B.Y. and Kathleen Scott, he graduated from Harvard ('59) and was a reporter at The Gazette before his 37-year career with Time. He is survived by his wife, Nancy; daughters Abigail and Jennifer; step-son Jesse Drury; grandchildren Joshua and Zoe Cantor; sister Mary Poapst; brother John; and nine nieces and nephews.
