BARTA, Frank L. - Passed away on Wednesday October 29, 2008 at Milennium Trail Manor at the age of 84. Survived by his wife Margaret, daughters Dorothy Hornyak (Michael), Frances Wark (David), his grand daughter Kelly. Survived by his sister Lillian of British Columbia. Predeceased by his sister Mary, brothers George and Jim. Fondly remembered by a large group of family and friends. Frank was a longtime employee of Sear's Canada, St Catharines. STRATTON, Walter - at Maple Park Lodge on Sunday October 26, 2008. Walter Stratton, beloved husband of Colleen and loving father of George (Pamela), Michael (deceased), Bill, and Kathy, grandfather of Ginny and Michael Stratton, Ben and Brian Bowen, great grandfather of Kailyn Bowen. Brother in law of Nancy Stratton Elliott and dear uncle of Jim Stratton, Darion Stratton Campbell. Predeceased by brothers Jim and George. Walter was born in Buffalo, NY May 17, 1922 and grew up in Fort Erie on the Niagara River and was one of the “Bowen Road Boys“. After high school he joined the RCAF and served with Montgomery in North Africa and Italy as a WWII spitfire pilot. Shot down over Italy, Walter saved his life by parachute and was a POW until the war ended. He returned to Fort Erie where he met and married his great love, Colleen. They raised 4 children in Crescent Park and then Rochester, New York where Walter had his own business as a developer/builder. Walter was an avid boater on the Niagara River, Georgian Bay, and in the Thousand Islands. In 1978 Walt and Colleen retired on their trawler “TUG II“ and spent 5 years boating between the Caribbean and Georgian Bay, after which they returned to their roots on the Niagara River. Above all though, Walt was a 'family man', living his life with and around his wife, children, grandchildren and many friends who were so important to him. He will be missed by all. A memorial service will be conducted at St Paul's Anglican Church, 32 Idlewylde Street, Fort Erie on Sunday, November 2, 2008 at 1 o'clock. DEMPSEY, Brian Everett - Surrounded by the love of his family, after a brief but valiant struggle with cancer, Brian Dempsey passed away at the Henderson Hospital in Hamilton in his 59th year on October 29th, 2008. Survived by his mother Alice Dempsey. Cherished husband and best friend of Connie (nee. Carruthers). Loving and doting father of Brianne Steinman and her husband Zachary, Waterloo. Mr. Otto Paulsen March 26, 1917 - August 3, 2008 It is with great sorrow that his family announces his death on August 3rd, 2008 after a brief battle with cancer. Otto was born near Kolding, Denmark on March 26, 1917, the youngest of eight children. He moved to Copenhagen to finish his technical training where he met his future wife Inge, they were married in 1942 followed by the birth of their two daughters Tove and Ann. His entrepreneurial and creative spirit led him to leave for Canada where his family was expanded with the birth of his son in1961. After a few years, he established a manufacturing business producing product for the oil industry. However, throughout his life his family was always his priority. After the death of his wife in 1989 Otto’s life took a new turn and he developed a love of golf and spending time in his garden and with family and friends. Otto leaves a great legacy of caring for both people and animals and treated all with dignity and respect. He is survived by his children Tove (John) Reece, Ann (Frank) Larson and Michael (Janne) Paulsen, his grandchildren, Jody (Jeff) Harris, Tove (Steve) LeBlanc, Christian Reece, Matthew (Penny) Reece, Megan and Emily Paulsen, great grandchildren, Jackson and Mackenzie Harris and Julia and Rachel LeBlanc. Maria Zimmerman December 25, 1925 - August 4, 2008 - ZIMMERMAN – Maria went peacefully into the arms of her Lord and Savior on Monday, August 4th, 2008 at the age of 82 years. Maria was born in Nikolayev, Ukraine on December 25th, 1925. After the Second World War she moved to Germany, settling in Buedeningen, a small village near Frankfort. It was there she met Kurt Zimmerman. They married on January 18th, 1947. In June 1949, they immigrated to Canada starting out on a farm at Waldheim, SK. The next year, 1950, they moved to Saskatoon where she resided until her passing. Maria had a great love for her family, friends and church family. She loved to garden, knit and sew. Surrounded by family, she passed from this world into the next on Wednesday, August 6, 2008 Teri was a well-regarded teacher with Edmonton Public Schools with 17 years at McCauley School before moving to York School last year. She will be sadly missed by her former and present students as well as friends across the educational community. Teri was born in Regina, Saskatchewan on December 21, 1964. Growing up in Regina, she and the family moved to Bagot, Manitoba in the mid-seventies and it was in Macgregor School where she met her future husband Kirby Tunski. What followed was 30 years of laughs, tears and vivid experiences, including the births of Tom in 1999 and Grace in 2004. Predeceased by parents Neil and Eleanor Taylor and mother–in-law, Olive Tunski, Teri leaves behind husband Kirby Tunski, son Tom, and daughter Grace; sisters Robyn Taylor, Marliss Taylor (Jelle) and brother Ron Taylor (Debbie); father-in-law Tom Tunski, brother-in-law Brad Tunski (Karen), nephews Carson and Joey, and sister-in-law, Shelley Tunski (Raymond). Patricia "Pat" Anne SWINEAMER January 11, 1937 - August 7, 2008 - SWINEAMER Patricia “Pat” Anne Swineamer, age 71, of Centre Burlington, Hants County, passed away peacefully, Thursday, August 7th, 2008, in the Hants Community Hospital, Windsor, surrounded by her loving family. Born on January 11th, 1937, in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island, she was the daughter of the late Annie Lillian (Nicholson) MacRae-Cudmore. Pat was a Real Estate Agent in Hants County for over 20 years. She was also the Municipality of the District of West Hants - 2008 Representative Volunteer. She has been an active volunteer in her community for over 36 years and with the Burlington & District Activity Club for the past 20 years. The Newport Jolly Seniors Club has also benefited from Pat’s hard work over the last 3 years. She had obtained funding for monthly birthday parties for the seniors in their Club. Pat was also instrumental in organizing a Citizens On Patrol group for the Burlington community. She was involved with the Burlington Women’s Institute for 17 years and with the Burlington Rural Roots 4-H Club as a general leader for 4 years. She is survived by her loving husband of 50 years, Harold Thomas Swineamer; her daughters, Cherilyn "Sheri" (Gary) MacIntosh, Lr. Mr. Raymond Francis Thomas Edward Bishop October 10, 1915 - August 7, 2008 - BISHOP, Raymond Francis Thomas Edward - 92, Hubley, passed away at home and into the arms of the Lord on August 7, 2008. He was a son of the late James Thomas and Susan Maude (Walsh) Bishop. He was formerly employed as a steamship checker for Furnace Withy Company, Halterm container terminal and most recently Ceres Corp. container terminal from where he retired at age 71. Raymond loved life and enjoyed fishing, swimming, ice skating, camping and the beach. He also played the fiddle and harmonica. He was a hard worker his entire life and his family was very important to him. He is survived by his second wife, Genevieve Margaret Bishop; daughters, Carol (Sherman) Murphy, Heather (James) Day, Sandra (Ross) Horne, Marcia (Mike) Marcoux, Bernadette (Ed) Griswold, Krista, Barbara (Chris) Bowers, Charlene (Jeremy) Shaw, and son, Michael. He was also blessed with 16 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren and four great great-grandchildren. Also surviving are one brother, Bernard William "Billy", and sister, Marie Llewellyn. Mr. Colin Englefield October 6, 1935 - August 8, 2008 - Our dear Dad and Grandad passed away on August 8, 2008, at the Grey Nuns Hospital in Edmonton after a short battle with cancer at the age of 72. Colin was born in London, England in 1935, the second of four children. He obtained a degree in Electrical Engineering at Queen Mary College, London in 1957. In 1959 he immigrated to Canada (though he always remained unmistakably English). He continued his studies at UBC obtaining his PHD in 1961, followed by 3 years of postdoctoral research. In 1964 he moved to Edmonton to take up a position as professor of Electrical Engineering at the University of Alberta, a post he held for 32 years. In 1966 he married Elisabeth (Elly) Verburg. They made their home in East Whitecroft near Sherwood Park where they raised three children. Elly passed away in 1996. Colin continued to be a loving and much loved Dad, and Grandad to his ten grandchildren, while pursuing interests such as gardening, photography, cyptic crosswords, genealogical research and drinking tea. He will be sorely missed and fondly remembered by all who knew him for his thoughtfulness, kindness, gentleness, generosity, patience and sense of humour. He is survived by his children and grandchildren: Marianne and Martin van der Ahe, (Jessica, Michelle and Jason), Peter and Michelle Englefield, (Reuben, Asher and Suzanne), Sonya and Greg Hassan, (Natasha, Jonah, Dominic and Samara), brothers Michael and Rodney, and sister Hilary. A memorial gathering will be held on Thursday, August 14, 2008 at 1:00 p.m. at Whitecroft Community Hall, 314 East Whitecroft, 52313 Range Road 232, Sherwood Park. Cremation has taken place. Born in St. John's, N.L., she was a daughter of the late Michael and Anne (Flynn) Evans. Married for 56 years to Ches, her loving husband with whom she raised six children, Helen was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. In her younger years, Helen worked with the Department of Health and Welfare in St. John's, N.L. She was a caring and thoughtful person who greatly enjoyed playing bridge, gardening, taking long walks with her husband and was a member of the Stardusters Square Dance Club for many years. Her other hobbies included watching curling and figure skating and reading. Helen will be forever missed by all her family and friends. Mr. William (Willie, Bill) Alexander Archibald March 31, 1920 - August 11, 2008 - Bill passed away peacefully at Good Shepherd Villa with family by his side on Monday, August 11, 2008. Bill was born in Charlottetown, PEI and moved to Saskatchewan with his family in 1923. He attended school at Winton and farmed with his father and brother Robert. In 1941 he enlisted serving 42 months overseas of which 10 months was in active service with the 5th Canadian Anti Tank Regiment in France, Belgium, Holland and Germany discharged in 1945. Upon returning from the war he began farming in the Weldon area. He married Irene Cline in 1973. They lived on the farm until 1983 at which time they moved into Prince Albert. He loved gardening and will always be remembered for his ability to grow the finest roses, glads as well as all other flowers and vegetables. He was actively involved in the horticultural society for many years of which he was acting president for 15. He was also involved with CanSurmount, the Presbyterian Church group activities, Sask. Director for Canadian Rose Society and Lifetime membership of Prince Albert Exhibition Association. He was predeceased by his parents Walter and Roberta; his brothers Donald and Robert. He will be lovingly remembered and sadly missed by his wife of 35 years Irene and her children Grace (Percy) Turner and family of Weldon, Mary Pierson and family of Hawaii, Dennis (Janice) Cline and family of Prince Albert, Bill (Rena) Cline and family of Prince Albert; his brother Roberts family, sister-in-law Marjorie, Greg and family, Julie (Steve) Kremer and family of Tofield, AB, Pam (John) Grambo and family of Birch Hills. Mr. Harry John Husiak August 6, 1915 - August 12, 2008 - Mr. Harry John Husiak, age 93 was called home to the Lord’s house on August 12th, 2008. He was born on August 6th, 1915 in Hamrlik, MB. He came to Thunder Bay in 1945 and on January 1st, 1950 Harry married the love of his life Mildred Riel and together began an adventurous and active life raising their family in Thunder Bay. Harry enjoyed a lifetime career at the Royal Edward Hotel where he enjoyed meeting new people and making new friends. His capacity to love increased with every new friend and family member. Harry’s greatest joy was spending time with his family. For Harry every minute spent with his family was a time to celebrate. Over the years Harry loved to travel, spending time at his place in Texas, and visiting family in Winnipeg and Vancouver. But his greatest joy was time spent at his camp at Trout Lake surrounded by all who loved him. Harry was a past member of the Lions Club and Connaught Masonic Lodge. Harry was predeceased by his mother and father John and Ksenia (Janie) Husiak, sister Kay Kochaluk, brother Mike Husiak and nephew Jim Daciw. He will be sadly missed by his wife Mildred; children: John (Marilyn Johnson), Lynda, Bruce, Michele Sereda (Harry Einarson), Gina O’Connor (John Petersmeyer); Grandchildren: Kyle and Laura Husiak, Robyn and Trevor Sereda, Tara O’Connor (Frank Albo) and Ryan O’Connor; Great Grandchildren: Louis and Asherah and sister Pearl Hrymchuk (Met). Mrs. Jean Wanamaker March 9, 1914 - August 14, 2008 - Jean Wanamaker Peacefully on Thursday, August 14, 2008 at the Maples Personal Care Home, Jean passed away at the age of 94 years. Jean is survived by her sister Mary Grywinski, son-in-law Edward Kalyniuk and his children Dale (Lori) and Darren (Chantal), daughter-in-law Carol Wanamaker and her children Darlene (Ralph), Daryl (Marita) and Deb (Mike), numerous great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband Joseph, daughter Shirley, son Kenneth and brother Paul. Jean was born on March 9, 1914 in Broadvalley, MB. She moved to Winnipeg, settling in the North End to raise her family. In her later years, Baba loved spending time with her grandchildren. She had a special love for animals, especially her cats. Mr. Harry Claude Madill February 18, 1924 - August 14, 2008 - MADILL, Harry Claude - Passed away peacefully in the presence of family on Thursday August 14, 2008 at the age of 84. Born February 18, 1924 in Creemore Ontario, he is predeceased by a daughter (Sally), a brother (Ray) and sister (Bernice). Harry is lovingly remembered by his dear wife Verna, partner for 61 years. Wonderful father to children and spouses Susan and Lynn, Janet and Greg, Sandi and Jim, Jim and Lisa, Dave and Brenda. Sadly missed by grandchildren; Brandon, Harrison, Carson, Luke, Kaeli, Jordan, Christopher, Keegan, Shawna and Krista. Harry Madill will always be a part of the heart, mind and soul of Oakville. His tireless efforts building Madill Pharmacy will be remembered forever. We were proud of his accomplishments and enjoyed his war time stories as a member of the Royal Canadian Air force during WWII. He was an avid golfer, sports enthusiast, community-based Pharmacist and an incredibly generous father throughout his life and was adored by all of us Harry was also a long standing-member of the Oakville Golf Club and may he forever enjoy the green grass of God's golf courses in heaven.
