BARTOSZEWICZ, Walter 2008-10-21 Mr. Walter Bartoszewicz age 93 years passed away on October 16, 2008. Walter was born in Poland and immigrated to Canada in 1951 with his wife Sonja, son Dieter and daughter Monika. Walter found employment with UGG and retired from there in 1980. Walter enjoyed camping, travelling and gardening but his family by far was most important to him. Walter was predeceased by his wife Sonny, daughter Monika Appel-Miller and daughter-in-law Bev Grandt. Walter is survived by his son Dieter (USA), grandchildren Shawn (Barb) Appel, Corinna (Rod) Duggan, Angie (Bob) Thelen (USA) , Dieter W (Lisa) Grandt (USA). Walter also has 7 great grandchildren and one great, great grandson. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, October 23rd at 11:00am at Trinity United Church with Rev. Boyd officiating. BEGAY, Sophie 2008-10-21 Sophie Begay, who resided at Hogarth-Riverview Manor (Willow), passed away peacefully on Sunday, October 19, 2008 after a lengthy illness. She was born in Slater, Manitoba on April 1, 1918. Sophie attended local schools and as a young lady moved to Thunder Bay where she met and married Peter Begay on June 23, 1945. During WWII she worked as a “Rosie the Riveter” at Canada Car. They had one son Donald in 1948. Sophie was a devout church attendee. In Thunder Bay she and her family attended the Ukrainian Catholic Church of the Ascension. Sophie was very active in church activities and served in various positions on the executive of the church committee and the Women‘s Club. She also helped to make many, many pyrohy at the Star Hall. Sophie went back to school and became a RNA or Registered Nursing Assistant, working for many years on the Pediatric Ward of McKellar Hospital. Sophie is survived by her son Donald, sister Anne (Sister Miriam Charles), her special friend Marie Babin and nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her husband Peter, parents Peter and Mary Cismistruk, brothers John, Walter and Metro. Funeral services for Sophie will be held on Wednesday, October 22, 2008 when family and friends will gather for Liturgy in the Ukrainian Catholic Church of Ascension at 11:00 a.m. celebrated by Rev. Orest Ostopovich. Interment will follow at Ukrainian Catholic Cemetery. Panachyda will be offered on Tuesday evening at 7:00 p.m. in Blake Funeral Chapel. If friends desire, memorials to the Alzheimer Society or the charity of your choice would be appreciated. A tree will be planted in memory of Mrs. Sophie Begay in the Blake Funeral Chapel Memorial Grove. Annual dedication service Sunday, June 29, 2008.

CONNELL, Susan In hospital, in Perth on Sunday, October 19th, 2008 Susan Barbara (Ritchie) Connell at the age of 68. Susan died very peacefully and with great dignity, leaving behind the love of her life Jimbear (James Gordon Connell). Loved mother of Stephanie Smith (Ralph Zabel) and Andrea Richardson (Adin) both of Chelsea, Quebec. Cherished grandmother of Ben Zabel, and dear sister of Marlie Tilker (Jim) and Sandy Ritchie. Susan was predeceased by her mother Grace (Harbottle) and her father Wells Ritchie. She will be fondly remembered by her nieces, nephews, all her extended family and friends. DAVIDSON, John Quentin August 23, 1926 - October 18, 2008 After a courageous battle with cancer, John Quentin passed on at 82 years of age, in the company of his loving family, within the "caring arms" of the Hospice at May Court. John is survived by his beloved wife Jacqueline (Bernier) of 54 years and his cherished five daughters: Deborah of Portland, ME; Jane (John Crowell) of North Conway, NH; Gail; Louise (Brian Arden) of Ottawa and Helen (Mike Kelly) of Calgary, AB. "Papa John" beloved grandfather of Alexandre Couture, Olivia and Georgia Arden; Mikaila, Hayden and Connor Kelly. Family, always foremost in John's life, shared and was inspired by his love and respect for "the great outdoors" and enjoyment of poetry and song. John was born in St. Quentin, NB; attended the University of New Brunswick in Fredericton; and devoted a lifetime of work as a mechanical engineer to the Pulp and Paper Industry. John was predeceased by his parents, Mary and William R. Davidson of Plaster Rock, N.B. and siblings Colin, Bill (Liz) and Elizabeth. PINDAR, Wainwright Ovren (Wain) July 6, 1969 - October 14, 2008 Beloved husband of Gail (nee Manning), devoted father of Emmett and a second child due in November. Loving son of Eric and Esther Pindar. Survived by sisters Beverley (Roy) and Eslyn, brother Greg (Portia), nephews Shawn, Justain, Kenneth, Brandon, Jordane, and nieces Alecia and Nikkole. His sister, Hazel, predeceased him in 1978. Wain brought much joy to his wife, son and entire family. He will be deeply missed. Wain will also be missed by his long-time Simcoe friends, Gail's extended Ottawa family, her parents, and the Ottawa Ultimate group. Cremation has taken place. PRENTICE, Maureen Nee McCormick On the 18th day of October 2008 passed away peacefully at the youthful age of 90 at the Montfort Hospital with her loving family by her side. Born in Belfast Ireland she was the fighting Irish right until the end. She will be sadly missed her loving husband of 54 years, Joseph; her children Kevin (Karen), Sheila (Dennis), Ciaran (Laura-Lee) and by her grandchildren Adam, Donovan (Chrissy), Jason (Jill), Lindsay (Andrew), Bethany and Summer. She will also be missed by her sisters Philomena and Margaret; her sisters-in-law Mary and Gail and by many nieces, nephews, friends and neighbours. She will be joining her sisters Theresa, Sheila, Pat, her brother John and her great grand daughter Mia in heaven. SILVA, Joaquim On Saturday, October 18, 2008 passed away peacefully at the Ottawa General Hospital at age 82. Born to the late Ana Do Rozario Silva and Jose Alves Anastacio. He leaves behind his son Carlos, daughter-in-law Maureen and grandchildren, James, Amy, Aileen and Eric. He joins his wife Violeta and daughter, Lucilia. WALLINGFORD, Sidney Milton Sidney passed away peacefully on Sunday, October 19, 2008 at the Civic Campus of the Ottawa Hospital at the age of 83. He was the son of George Emile Wallingford and his wife Irene (nee Vessot). He served 3 years in the Army Service Corps and later became a civil servant. He leaves 4 sisters, Lilian Pedley of Niagara-on-the-Lake, Emily Davis of Lethbridge, AB, Dorothy Allen of Ottawa, and Myrtle Burnell of Langley, BC. He is also survived by 3 younger brothers, Errol (Iris) of Sydenham, ON, Dr. Ronald Wallingford of Sudbury, and Richard of Warren, ON. There are many nieces and nephews who will mourn Uncle Sid who was an expert fisherman. DONAHUE, Rose Burns. 1924-2008. Rose Burns Donahue, beloved wife of the late Thomas Burns of Saint-Patrice de Beaurivage, passed away at the Forest Grove Nursing Home in Calgary, Alberta on October 13, 2008, at the age of eighty-four years. OBITUARY GEORGE FRANK HEARN Suddenly on October 5, 2008 at the age of eighty-nine while visiting family in Calgary, Alberta. Beloved husband of the late Therese (nee Charland). Treasured father of David (Joan), Paul (Kathleen), Michael, Louise (Patrick) and Jeannie (John). Proud grandfather of Jamie, Kayla, Jeffrey and Laura-Therese. Predeceased by his brother Anthony. He leaves behind nieces, nephews and a large, extended family along with many, many friends. A resident of Saint Bruno-de-Montarville for over 50 years he was a trustee of the Mount Bruno United Church. George started his career at Dominion Oilcloth (Domco) where he was employed for 36 years except during WW2 when he served with the Royal Canadian Navy as a specialist in anti-submarine warfare, rising to the rank of lieutenant and acting Staff Officer. From 1974 until retirement he held a position at Hercules Canada Ltd. An avid sportsman, his interests extended to skiing, fishing, camping and golf. He won the Canadian Men's Amateur Competition in 1989 for his age category (70-74). An active member of the Mount Bruno Country Club since 1954, he was fortunate to have many wonderful friends to enjoy golf with. A Celebration of George's life will be held at 12:00 noon on October 25, 2008 at the Mount Bruno Country Club. OBITUARY FATHER J. BRIAN PECKHAM, S.J. At the Princess Margaret Hospital in Toronto, on Sunday, October 19th, 2008, surrounded by family and friends. He was 74 years old, in his 58th year of religious life, and 41st year of priesthood. He was born in Montreal, Quebec, on January 28th, 1934, son of Sydney Brittain Peckham and Elizabeth Caroline. Brian entered the Roman Catholic religious order the Society of Jesus (Jesuits) in 1951, and was ordained a priest in 1967. He became a professor of Biblical Studies, and then of Near and Middle Eastern Civilizations at Regis College in the Toronto School of Theology and at the Centre for the Study of Religion at the University of Toronto. He was a respected scholar and a beloved teacher and friend. He is survived by four sisters, a brother, and numerous nephews and nieces. KUCZAK, Stanislaw (Stanley) 1912 - 2008 Stanley Kuczak, left us on Sunday, October 19, 2008 at the age of 96 years. Stanley was born in Poland at the Foothills of the Carpathian Mountains, in a small town near Krakow called Tarnow. Stanley immigrated to Edmonton, Alberta with his sister Jean in 1929 to join their father, Jan. Stanley met his wife Maria Angnes in Edmonton and they were married in Calgary on September 2, 1942. In Calgary Maria and Stanley spent fifty-seven loving years together, before Maria passed away in 1999. Stanley will be sadly missed by: his son Edward Kuczak (Teresa); daughter Diane Kuczak; grandchildren, Jason (Helen) Kuczak, Tammy (Robert) Cossette and his great-grandson Krystjan Stanton Kuczak. In addition to his immediate family, Stanley will be remembered by his niece, Carol Hawrish, nephew Michael Dzwiniel and his extended family and friends around the world. Stanley spent thirty years retired from the Calgary Meat Packing Industry, and his remaining years were spent at the Millrise Intercare Home. NOBLE-HAY, Kitty (nee Hilda Lily Harvey) August 23, 1928 - October 20, 2008 Kitty passed away peacefully on October 20, 2008 at the age of 80, surrounded by her family at the Southwood Hospice in Calgary. Kitty is survived by her loving husband Ron, her daughter Tracey (Ross), son Jeffrey and her three beautiful grandchildren, Tiffany, Brad and Lindsay; her daughter-in-law Lori, as well her sister Elsie (Reg), their son Bruce and daughters Sheila and Dianna. Kitty was born in Calgary, Alberta on August 23, 1928. She was a "Life Long Calgarian" something she was very proud of. She grew up in the lower Mount Royal area of Calgary and was always amazed at how much this city she loved so much has changed. As a little girl her family moved to England and she held onto many fond memories of playing amongst those cobblestone streets. Once back in Calgary as a vivacious young woman, she set out to make her way and find her soulmate. Kitty was never afraid of hard work and was a valued employee at every company she was employed at over the years. Kitty did meet her shining knight, as she liked to call him. That man was Ken Noble. They fell in love, were married in 1948 at St. George in the Pines Church in Banff and began their life together. They lived in Vancouver for a few years while Ken earned his degree at UBC and Kitty supported them both. But of course Calgary was home and they moved back here where Ken began his career in the Oil and Gas Industry. Both Ken and Kitty enjoyed socializing with their many friends and travelling. They welcomed two children, Tracey in 1964 and Jeffrey in 1966, that Kitty was so proud of. Kitty began a long and lucrative career in real estate in 1970. This was the perfect fit for her as she enjoyed the interaction with people and it led to some lifelong friendships. Kitty adored her three grandchildren. Tiffany, born in 1984, Bradley, born in 1986 and Lindsay, born in 1990. Her time spent with them were some of her most cherished moments, filled with lots of laughs and of course lots of grandma's good cooking! After Ken's death in 1987, Kitty continued to be active with her charities and continued globetrotting around the world with friends. Kitty was lucky enough to meet a second man to share her life. Ron Hay was a longtime friend that came back into her life and they were married in 1994. Together they shared lots of laughs, family time and generally got up to petty mischief! Her love of people led her to be an active supporter of many charitable organizations over the years. She was a member of the Heritage Park Society, Calgary Tourist Bureau, Variety Club and also sat on the Calgary Real Estate Board for twenty years. There is so much more to say about Kitty, she was a great gal, larger than life and will be missed by many. PATTERSON, Leagh It is with heavy hearts that the Patterson family announces the passing of our beloved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, Leagh, of Calgary on Friday, October 17, 2008 at the age of 86 years. Leagh will be forever remembered by his loving wife and companion of sixty-three years, Dorothy. His spirit will live on in his five children and their spouses: Lucill and Len Maddison, Dean Patterson, Lorea Patterson, Leao and Ron Vermeylen, and Daren and Denise Patterson; fifteen grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren. Leagh is also survived by two sisters, Bobbie and Peggy. He was predeceased by his infant daughter Ledona. Leagh was born in Calgary, AB on March 6, 1922. He was one of seven children. At eighteen, Leagh joined the Royal Canadian Navy, serving on the HMCS Portage. His ship was in port in New York, NY, when he met his Wren, Dorothy and they were married shortly after in Winnipeg, MB, on December 28, 1945. Leagh was a member of the 264 Legion and attended monthly luncheons with his fellow "Undaunted". In 1960, Leagh entered into the bowling business working his way up from a manager to an owner. Once an owner, Leagh began the company Alberta Bowlerama, which throughout the years was comprised of many different bowling centers. It was his love of bowling and the business that gave Leagh the opportunity to travel the world as he served on a variety of provincial and national boards. Once his children had grown and began families of their own, Leagh and Dorothy continued Leagh's acquired love of traveling, stamping their passports with as many destinations around the world as possible. SACHE, Thomas Earl - (Oct 23, 1914- October 17, 2008). The family announces with sorrow the peaceful passing of Tom Sache, aged 93, at Leisureworld on a beautiful autumn morning. Son of Arthur and Mable Sache, and husband for over 50 years to the late Edith Sache (December 1991), he outlived his brothers Clarence, Emerson, Edgar and sisters Beatrice and Edna by many years. Survived by sister-in- law, Ruth (Edgar). Loving father of Nancy Ferguson (Gary). His memory will remain forever in the hearts of his grandchildren, Edward, Jonathan (Zoë), Gregory (Christine) and Kristen (Andrew). Great- grandfather of Kurtis, Brent and Matthew. Born to a Widdifield pioneer family, at the old Queen Victoria Manor Hospital (Klock Ave, and High St.) and weighing less than 2 lbs at birth, he was not expected to survive. Tom grew up on the family farm which later became the site of the airport hangars during the WWII. In the 1920's Tom moved to Kirkland Lake where he married Edith in 1937 and did various jobs including plumbing and driving a fruit truck to Toronto. He then worked as a gold miner at Lakeshore Mine for 10 years. In 1940, he returned to North Bay to work for the RAF, performing maintenance on Lancaster bombers during the war. In 1951, he began working at Boart Longyear as a machinist and during this time he worked, traveled and ‘'trouble-shooted'' throughout the Northwest Territories, Quebec, Laborador, B.C., Manitoba, the Maritimes, Greenland and Denmark, He retired in 1976 after 25 years of dedicated service with Longyear. Tom's passion was flying and he spent many years piloting his Champion CF-ICN. In his retirement, he enjoyed spending time with his family, gardening, fishing, tinkering with his classic cars and visiting the cottage. At Tom's request, there will be a private family service and internment of cremated remains at Terrace Lawn Cemetery at a later date. TRIMBLE, Arthur 2008-10-21 Mr. Arthur Roy Trimble, age 49 years, a resident of Unity Place, Pearl Street, passed away at his residence on Friday, October 17, 2008. Born in Port Arthur on January 19, 1959, Roy enjoyed playing chess and listening to music. Roy loved sports, his favourite being football and hockey, and he enjoyed playing both in his younger years while growing up in Winnipeg, MB. He enjoyed cheering for his nephews as they played baseball and football. Roy will be lovingly remembered by his mother Mae, sister Patti (Tom) Sinkins and nephews Alex, Josh, and Spencer Sinkins. He was predeceased by his father Jack, uncle Alwyn Sims, aunt Maxine Baxter, and by aunt and uncle Marg and Art Gorley. ANDERSON, Mervin "Merv" Alexander February 22, 1928 - October 19, 2008 It is with great sadness we announce Merv's death from complications of Alzheimer's disease. Merv passed away on October 19, 2008, surrounded by his loving family. He is survived by Mary, his wife of fifty-seven years; daughter Janice (Tony) Klein of Calgary, Alberta; granddaughters Jennifer Klein of New Castle, England and Katie Klein of Lethbridge, Alberta; sisters Verna (Don) Bruce of Kenora, Ontario, Arlene Hamilton of Thunder Bay, Ontario and Daryle (Bob) Spence of Welland, Ontario; as well as many nieces and nephews. Merv was predeceased by his son Mark and his parents. Merv was born in Fort William, Ontario, which became part of present day Thunder Bay. He attended Lakehead College after which he started his lifelong career as a journalist first with the Port Arthur News Chronicle. Merv spent time with the Portage la Prairie Daily Graphic, Trail Times and in 1956 moved to the Calgary Herald where he remained for more than thirty years. No Service by request. MACDONALD, Frances - passed away at the age of 93 on October 10, at the Glebe Centre in Ottawa. Loving wife of the late Angus James MacDonald, and mother and best friend to Dawn Deme (Steven), the late Ian MacDonald (Mary), Karen Laughlin (Terrence), Sandra MacDonald-Rencz (Andrew) and Margaret MacDonald Jones (Russell). Cherished Nana of Sean (Elizabeth) and Sarah Laughlin, Edward (Deb) and Jennifer MacDonald, Matthew, Amanda and Benjamin Rencz and Gran- nana of Angus and Evan MacDonald and Sophia and Liam Laughlin. First child born in 1915 to the late Edward and Winnifred Lisle. Big sister of Winnifred MacDonald (the late Alban) and Edward Lisle (Betty). Frances grew up in Ottawa and graduated from the University of Toronto (Loretta College) with a Bachelor of Arts (English Literature) in 1938. Frances and Angus raised their five children in Kingston. After a number of years at home, she resumed her teaching career at St. Paul‘s Elementary School and then at Frontenac and Queen Elizabeth High Schools where she specialized in Guidance and English. She carried in her heart many special memories of her fellow teachers, especially Pat Bowen and the late Jim Smith, and the students she felt privileged to teach. Frances and Angus retired to Ottawa in order to be closer to family and spent summers at their cottage in Prince Edward Island. A private family service was held in Ottawa. SCARPELLI, Gino - On the 19th of October, it is with deep sorrow, with his family by his side, Gino Annunziato Scarpelli, age 79, has gone to be with the Lord. Leaving behind his beloved, devoted and cherished wife Cherina. His children Amelia (Shawn) Mann, Maria (Robert) DiBona, Olindo (Debra) Scarpelli, Nella (Dean) Thomson, and Rita (Dan) Doig. Gino adored his grandchildren, Jacob and Olivia, Meranda and Michael, and Natalie and Sophia. Gino left behind his sister Louisa (Tony) Sproverio and their children Frank, Anthony and Theresa, and his sister-in-law Maria (late Victorio) Scarpelli and their children Anna, Frank, Amedeo, and Victor Jr. Gino was a retiree from Dow Chemical and a long-time member of the Dante Club. He will be sadly missed and remembered as a kind and gentle man.
