DAVIS, Christine (Vitch) - On Saturday October 18th, 2008, Christine peacefully passed away at the Greater Niagara General Hospital in her 96th year. She was predeceased by her loving husband Jim (1989) and is survived by her sister Virginia Vitch; her nieces and nephew, Rita Madia, Theresa Lococo, Allan Vitch, Betty Burkhart, Rosemarie Baldin and Mary Ellen Allison. She is predeceased by her parents Dominic and Bridget Vitch, by her brothers and sisters, Theresa, Jennie, Allan, Louie, Dorothy, Armenia, Michael and Rita. Christine is resting at the Morse & Son Chapel of the MORGAN FUNERAL HOMES, 5917 Main Street, where her family will receive friends on Monday from 3-5 and 7-9 pm. Vigil will be held at the funeral home on Monday afternoon at 3:15. A funeral mass will be celebrated at St. Ann's Church on Tuesday morning at 10:00 o'clock. HARRIS, Norman Hawlksworth - Suddenly at his home on Saturday October 18, 2008. Loving husband of the late Dorothy (nee Orr). NEMETH, Mary Elizabeth (Toth) - With her beloved husband Joe of 58 years by her side, Mary slipped peacefully away at the BGH in her 78th year, surrounded by her family and caregiver Elizabeth. Even though Mary had suffered a stroke in January, 2005 which limited her physically, her keen wit, humour and love for others never faltered, with her many visits to the Adult Recreation Therapy Centre (ARTC) being an anticipated event. Her positive outlook, coupled with a kind and generous heart, represents a blessed legacy to her four daughters and their husbands: Judy and Ken Shelley, Nancy and Ron Munro, Vicky Collins, Cathy and Sherm Richardson. She will be greatly missed by her 16 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren who have precious and lasting memories of visiting with their “Nan“ on the farm and being spoiled with great Hungarian cooking. MacTAVISH, Beverley - After a long and courageous battle, “Bev“ passed away peacefully, surrounded by his wife and children, on Sunday, October 19, 2008, in his 76th year. Loving husband of Donna (Bretherton). Cherished and dearly loved father of Kevin (Sue), Ann-Marie (Jim) Wiley, Susan (Steve) Tope and Boyd (Erin). Grandpa to Sarah, Parker and Brandon MacTavish, Katie, Lindsay and Tim Wiley, Stephanie and Devin Tope and “Poppy“ to Sabrina. Born in Newcastle, New Brunswick, Bev moved to St. Catharines and met the love of his life, Donna. He worked at Lightning Fastner until 1971 and then purchased Wee Willie. He trucked faithfully until he was 70 years old. Dad will always be remembered for his “shiny big red truck“ and love for stock car racing that gave him many wonderful weekend memories. HAGAR, Mr. Horace Ward - It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Horace Hagar on Friday October 17, 2008, at the Welland Hospital, in his 83rd year. Beloved husband of Eleanor (nee Grantham) Hagar for 61 years. Loving father of Harold, daughter-in-law Irene and Cynthia Jeanes and her husband Ralph. Dear grandfather of Nolan, Shelby and predeceased by his grandson Spencer. Cherished son-in-law of Myrtle Grantham-Seeber. Dear brother of Aubrey, Dorothy and Elita. Predeceased by father Cecil and mother Mae, as well as siblings Doris, Belva, Marjorie, Miriam, John and Ken. Many nieces, nephews and their families will miss Horace's humour and compassion. Horace was employed by the Hamilton District Cattle Breeders Inc. and later Western Ontario Breeders Inc. for a combined total of 43 years. In addition, he served as an adjuster and board member for Bertie and Clinton Mutual Insurance. Throughout his lifetime, Horace compiled and enviable record of community and public service with organizations such as The Junior Farmers, Fenwick Lions Club, Fenwick Minor Baseball, Fenwick Volunteer Fire Department, The Ontario Federation of Agriculture (Welland), The Ploughman's Association, Township of Pelham Councillor, Town of Pelham Councillor and School Board Trustee Pelham Township SS#9. In his retirement years Horace performed volunteer duties at the Fenwick United Church and pursued his passion for golf. GALLANT, Joseph ‘Elmer’ The death occurred peacefully at the Prince County Hospital, Summerside, on Saturday, October 18, 2008, of Joseph “Elmer” Gallant of Summerside, aged 79 years. Elmer was born in Piusville, P.E.I., on January 26, 1929 to his late parents, Mosie and Loretta (nee Martin) Gallant. He leaves to mourn his wife Marjorie (nee Wall) and his children Kevin of Scarborough, Ont., and Cheryl (Peter) Whillans of Brampton, Ont., his stepchildren Richard (Michelle) MacRae of Richmond, B.C., Joan MacRae (Terry Brauen) of Quispamsis, N.B., John (Rhonda) MacRae of Sioux Lookout, Ont., and Darren MacRae of Charlottetown. Also loving remembered by his grandchildren Jamie, Richard and Derek Gallant, Jessica, Evan and Cameron Whillans , his step-grandchildren Claire and Alasdair MacRae, Kara and Emily Brauen and Jake and Parker MacRae, along with several nieces and nephews. NARDO, Guido 2008-10-20 Mr. Guido Nardo, age 78 years of John Street, passed away peacefully in the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre, on Thursday, October 16, 2008. Guido was born in Aviano Pordenone, Italy in 1930. He grew up there, immigrating to Canada in 1954, and worked construction in Toronto for a year before moving to Port Arthur, He was then employed in area bush camps and later, worked as a carpenter in construction. Guido had returned to Italy in 1958 to marry his wife Anna and they returned to Canada and raised their family. Guido continued to work, retiring in 1989. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and loved the outdoors. Guido was also a long time member of Societa Italiana Principe Di Piemonte at the DA VINCI CENTRE. Guido will be lovingly remembered by Anna, his wife of 50 years; son Albert (Patti Ann) of Texas; daughters: Viviana and Susan (David) Burch of St. Catharines; grandchildren: Keith and Kevin Nardo, Evan Nardo, Michael and Matthew Burch; numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives as well as his special niece Issabella (Rodolfo) Crezenzo. He was predeceased by his parents Giacomo and Anna Nardo, and his sisters Giovanna And Guiditta. Funeral Services for the late Guido Nardo will be held on Monday, October 20, 2008 with Funeral Mass at 10:00 a.m. in Corpus Christi Roman Catholic Church, 664 Red River Road, celebrated by Fr. CUNLIFFE, Lillian B. (nee Taylor) After a courageous and lengthy battle with Parkinson's disease, passed away peacefully on October 18th at the age of 86. Beloved wife of the late Leonard Cunliffe, and a long-time Westboro resident. She will be greatly missed by her sons David (Wendy) and Rick (LuAnn) and by her sister and best friend, Hilda Ashbee. OBITUARY DOROTHY BARBARA FRANKLIN Born July 19, 1919 in England and known principally as Barbara, passed away in her sleep on early morning Saturday, October 18, 2008. Daughter of Minnie Robinson Franklin and William Henry Franklin, and Sister of Wilfred Edgar Franklin. Barbara grew up in Saint-Eustache, Montreal and trained to be a nurse. Always learning thoroughout her life, nursing was not enough and Barbara continued her education. She became a high school English teacher and then guidance counselor at Rosemount High School for more than twenty years. She affected the lives of thousands of students in her career and enjoyed her job. Barbara lived all her working life in Montreal, and then retired to Oakville to join her two lifelong friends Doris Law and Doris Welham who had also retired to Oakville, from Montreal, as well. She enjoyed travelling; knitting, needlepoint and sewing - making much of her own clothes; theatre and reading. In later life she moved to Vistamere Retirement Home, where the staff at Vistamere treated her with grace. She is survived by her sister-in-law Angela Franklin of Walnut Creek, California, her nephew William L. Franklin, of San Francisco, California and her great nephew William Edgar Meighan Franklin. A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, October 21, 2008 at Oakview Funeral Home, 56 Lakeshore Road West, Oakville, Ontario, 905 842 2252. Douglas "Doug" Born East Templeton, Quebec May 6, 1917 Peacefully at his home surrounded by his loving wife of 65 wonderful years and family on Saturday October 18, 2008 at the age of 91 years. Loving husband of Edythe (nee Moore). Dear father of Linda Duinker (late J. David Duinker), John (Lynn) and Mary (Larry Calhoun). Fondly remembered by his grandchildren Robert Duinker (Sarah), Julia Duinker (Brian) and Barbara McIntosh (Drew) and great-grandson Noah Duinker. Dear brother of George "Mac" McIntosh (late Dorothy) and Mary MacMillan (late Millar). Doug spent 30 years in the Royal Canadian Air Force from 1937 to 1967; 15 years with the Department of Transport from 1967 to 1982. Doug had a mechanical gift for repairing and constructing mechanical devices; enjoyed his friendship with the Ottawa Valley Live Steam Engineers and was a Member over 50 years with the Masonic Lodge. EKLUND, (nee Beckhuson) Joyce Maria March 7, 1925 - October 19, 2008 Joyce Eklund passed away peacefully with her daughter Faye by her side on Sunday, October 19, 2008 at the age of 83 years. Among the gifts that Joyce shared during her life were her strength, courage, sense of humour and living with grace. MADGE, Edna Alberta January 4, 1908 - October 17, 2008 Edna Madge passed away on Friday, October 17, 2008 at Hillcrest nursing home at the age of 100 years. She will be lovingly remembered by her surviving son, Ron, other family members and her friends. Edna was predeceased by her husband Frederick John (Jack), her younger son Alan, and her two brothers Frank and Bill. She was born on her parents' homestead in the Chestermere Lake region. When she was six, the family moved into the Inglewood area of the city. Edna married Jack in 1932 and they were happily wed for fifty-two years until his death in 1984. She attended Trinity United Church before its closure and was a life member of Inglewood Silver Threads Association. McCRAE, Brian Alden May 22, 1964 - October 7, 2008 It is with great sadness that we inform you that our beloved son Brian, passed away in his home in Koh Samui, Thailand. MOORE, Charles Cyril 1920 - 2008 Charlie passed away peacefully on October 16, 2008 at the age of 88 years. He will be lovingly remembered by his former wife Frances Moore (nee Berg); Ken (Verla) Carter, Sheila (Terry) Gaw, and Bill (Denise) Moore; grandchildren Brian, Kathryn, Kira, Liam, Lindsay, Roger and Sarah; as well as many other beloved family members both in Canada and the UK. He is predeceased by his parents Willie and Leah; brothers Leslie (Lucy) and Norman (Molly). Charlie was born on September 12, 1920 in Oxton, Birkenhead, England. He served his country during WWII in the Burma Campaign under the Indian XV Corps (the three V's). After Charlie immigrated to Canada he secured numerous jobs but ultimately settled on a fulfilling career in telecommunications with Alberta Government Telephones (AGT). Charlie loved music, literature and sports. His passion for sports was evident throughout his life but most notably for the Calgary Flames. Dad especially cherished time spent with his children and grandchildren. We wish to sincerely thank the staff at the Beverly Care Centre - Lake Midnapore for the care and compassion they gave Charlie and our family. HANNAH, Frederick Duncan - Businessman and Community Friend - Born August 11, 1923 in Niagara Falls, Ontario, died in Greater Niagara General Hospital on Sunday, October 19, 2008. Devoted husband of Kathleen Barbara (nee Brooks) for 63 years. Loving father to Kathleen Jean (Joe) of Waverly, NY and Louise Ann of Niagara Falls. Proud grandfather to Robin (Rachel), Matthew (Maria), Merrissa and Erikka; great-grandfather to Lance, Charlotte, Ian, Eva and Sadie. He is also survived by his cherished sister Marion and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents George Duncan Hannah and Ida May Gray (nee Snelling), by his brother “Ted” and sister “Nellie”. He was employed by William B. Gunning Ltd. and later became owner-operator of Fred Hannah Fuels until his retirement, when he served as Building Attendant at Stamford Court Apartments for Niagara Regional Housing until his death. Fred's life was devoted to family, church and community. He was a life-time member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, serving on Church Council and Young People's Society. He was a long-time member of the Independent Order of Foresters, serving as High Chief Ranger for Ontario West and earning the highest award for meritorious service, the Grand Cross of the Legion of Honour, in 2001. He supported Scouts Canada and several other community organizations. Friends may call at the MORSE & SON CHAPEL of the MORGAN FUNERAL HOMES, 5917 Main Street on Tuesday from 5-7 p.m. and on Wednesday from 12:30 until 1:30. A service to celebrate his life will follow on Wednesday at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Lundy's Lane Cemetery.
