DAVIDSON, John Quentin August 23, 1926 - October 18, 2008 After a courageous battle with cancer, John Quentin passed on at 82 years of age, in the company of his loving family, within the "caring arms" of the Hospice at May Court. John is survived by his beloved wife Jacqueline (Bernier) of 54 years and his cherished five daughters: Deborah of Portland, ME; Jane (John Crowell) of North Conway, NH; Gail; Louise (Brian Arden) of Ottawa and Helen (Mike Kelly) of Calgary, AB. "Papa John" beloved grandfather of Alexandre Couture, Olivia and Georgia Arden; Mikaila, Hayden and Connor Kelly. Family, always foremost in John's life, shared and was inspired by his love and respect for "the great outdoors" and enjoyment of poetry and song. John was born in St. Quentin, NB; attended the University of New Brunswick in Fredericton; and devoted a lifetime of work as a mechanical engineer to the Pulp and Paper Industry. John was predeceased by his parents, Mary and William R. Davidson of Plaster Rock, N.B. and siblings Colin, Bill (Liz) and Elizabeth. He is survived by his much loved sister Helen Tracy, Barbara (Richard Wheeler), Sally Davidson, Phil Sharkey and many nieces and nephews. PINDAR, Wainwright Ovren (Wain) July 6, 1969 - October 14, 2008 Beloved husband of Gail (nee Manning), devoted father of Emmett and a second child due in November. Loving son of Eric and Esther Pindar. Survived by sisters Beverley (Roy) and Eslyn, brother Greg (Portia), nephews Shawn, Justain, Kenneth, Brandon, Jordane, and nieces Alecia and Nikkole. His sister, Hazel, predeceased him in 1978. Wain brought much joy to his wife, son and entire family. He will be deeply missed. Wain will also be missed by his long-time Simcoe friends, Gail's extended Ottawa family, her parents, and the Ottawa Ultimate group. Cremation has taken place. PRENTICE, Maureen Nee McCormick On the 18th day of October 2008 passed away peacefully at the youthful age of 90 at the Montfort Hospital with her loving family by her side. Born in Belfast Ireland she was the fighting Irish right until the end. She will be sadly missed her loving husband of 54 years, Joseph; her children Kevin (Karen), Sheila (Dennis), Ciaran (Laura-Lee) and by her grandchildren Adam, Donovan (Chrissy), Jason (Jill), Lindsay (Andrew), Bethany and Summer. She will also be missed by her sisters Philomena and Margaret; her sisters-in-law Mary and Gail and by many nieces, nephews, friends and neighbours. OBITUARY GEORGE FRANK HEARN Suddenly on October 5, 2008 at the age of eighty-nine while visiting family in Calgary, Alberta. Beloved husband of the late Therese (nee Charland). Treasured father of David (Joan), Paul (Kathleen), Michael, Louise (Patrick) and Jeannie (John). Proud grandfather of Jamie, Kayla, Jeffrey and Laura-Therese. Predeceased by his brother Anthony. He leaves behind nieces, nephews and a large, extended family along with many, many friends. A resident of Saint Bruno-de-Montarville for over 50 years he was a trustee of the Mount Bruno United Church. George started his career at Dominion Oilcloth (Domco) where he was employed for 36 years except during WW2 when he served with the Royal Canadian Navy as a specialist in anti-submarine warfare, rising to the rank of lieutenant and acting Staff Officer. From 1974 until retirement he held a position at Hercules Canada Ltd. An avid sportsman, his interests extended to skiing, fishing, camping and golf. He won the Canadian Men's Amateur Competition in 1989 for his age category (70-74). An active member of the Mount Bruno Country Club since 1954, he was fortunate to have many wonderful friends to enjoy golf with. A Celebration of George's life will be held at 12:00 noon on October 25, 2008 at the Mount Bruno Country Club. Predeceased by his brothers Barry (Terry) and Kenneth. Keith was born in Granby, Quebec to Gerald and Gertrude McDonald. Came to Montreal and worked with Bell Canada, eventually started his own successful advertising agency. Keith was an avid cyclist, skier, golfer and world traveler. He was a very generous man. OBITUARY FATHER J. BRIAN PECKHAM, S.J. At the Princess Margaret Hospital in Toronto, on Sunday, October 19th, 2008, surrounded by family and friends. He was 74 years old, in his 58th year of religious life, and 41st year of priesthood. He was born in Montreal, Quebec, on January 28th, 1934, son of Sydney Brittain Peckham and Elizabeth Caroline. Brian entered the Roman Catholic religious order the Society of Jesus (Jesuits) in 1951, and was ordained a priest in 1967. He became a professor of Biblical Studies, and then of Near and Middle Eastern Civilizations at Regis College in the Toronto School of Theology and at the Centre for the Study of Religion at the University of Toronto. He was a respected scholar and a beloved teacher and friend. He is survived by four sisters, a brother, and numerous nephews and nieces. KUCZAK, Stanislaw (Stanley) 1912 - 2008 Stanley Kuczak, left us on Sunday, October 19, 2008 at the age of 96 years. Stanley was born in Poland at the Foothills of the Carpathian Mountains, in a small town near Krakow called Tarnow. Stanley immigrated to Edmonton, Alberta with his sister Jean in 1929 to join their father, Jan. Stanley met his wife Maria Angnes in Edmonton and they were married in Calgary on September 2, 1942. In Calgary Maria and Stanley spent fifty-seven loving years together, before Maria passed away in 1999. Stanley will be sadly missed by: his son Edward Kuczak (Teresa); daughter Diane Kuczak; grandchildren, Jason (Helen) Kuczak, Tammy (Robert) Cossette and his great-grandson Krystjan Stanton Kuczak. In addition to his immediate family, Stanley will be remembered by his niece, Carol Hawrish, nephew Michael Dzwiniel and his extended family and friends around the world. Stanley spent thirty years retired from the Calgary Meat Packing Industry, and his remaining years were spent at the Millrise Intercare Home. Né le 17 mars 1921 à Moncton, il était le fils de feu Philias et Josephine (Bourgeois) Daigle. Il laisse dans le deuil son épouse, Orpha (Richard) Daigle; six enfants: Jackie O’Reilley (Pat) de Halifax, Ron (May) de France, Claudette Boyd (Jim) et Cathy Williams (Paul) de Montréal, Rob de Fredericton, Denise Daigle-McGrath (Pat) de Toronto; huit petits-enfants: Derek (Jill), Deron (Cathy), Erin (Jason), Kelly, Justin, Ryan, Amber et Katelyn; deux arrière-petits-enfants: Willem et Nate, une soeur, Lorraine Poirier (feu Nazaire) de Summerside; deux deux-frères: Fred (Stacey) et Gerry (Diane) de Moncton; trois belles-soeurs: Jeannette Hobbs (Danny) de Regina, Louise Cormier de Dieppe, Simonne Cormier (Rheal) de St-Antoine; ainsi que plusieurs nièces et neveux. Il est précédé dans la tombe par sa belle-mère, Marianne (Cormier), un frère, Alban (Sally) et une belle-soeur, Géraldine Hamilton (Bill). KOSIOR, Paul It is with great sadness that the family announces the passing of Paul Kosior at the age of 63 on October 18, 2008 after a valiant battle with cancer. Paul was born on August 4, 1945 in Turner Valley, Alberta. He is survived by his mother Minnie, sister Eileen, brothers John (Janet) and Jim (Bev), nieces and nephews Jeremy, Jayme, Rob, Lisa, David, Jenny, Catherine and Sofia. Paul immensely enjoyed his special aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. He was predeceased by his father Karl in 1988. Paul had a beautiful mind and those who were fortunate enough to know him will forever be touched in a profound way. Paul always faced difficult situations with a strong sense of hope and faith. He chose to look at life with an optimistic attitude, despite facing several serious health problems. His heart always remained kind and thoughtful and he was forever showing concern for everyone else's welfare. All enjoyed his sense of humour and intelligent thought. He was beautiful in every way - gentle and gracious to the end. Paul - so loving and dearly loved - you are in our hearts forever. The family would like to thank everyone for your cards, flowers, and offers of help. Your many kind words were deeply appreciated and will always be remembered. ZALEWSKI, Stanislawa (Stacey) (nee Kuriata) September 21, 1935 - October 20, 2008 Stanislawa (Stacey) Zalewski of Calgary, passed away peacefully and surrounded by her family, on Monday, October 20, 2008 at the age of 73 years. Stacey was born in Potasnia, Poland. She met her husband John Zalewski in 1960, after which they immigrated to Uranium City, SK, where they settled down and had four children, Rick, Sophie (Adrian), Waldy (Tammy), and Jane. In 1975, the family made the move to Calgary. Stacey was also blessed with six grandchildren, Nicholas, David, Mark, Thomas, Jake, and Ethan. She is also survived by her sister Sophie (Peter) and their children Adam (Catherine) Olivia and Christopher and friend Dana. Stacey spent and enjoyed many hours tending to her gardens. She was also an exceptional cook, especially when preparing meals of her traditional food. She will always be remembered for her marinated lamb (baran). Stacey will be lovingly remembered for her sense of humour and her easy nature in making many good friends. She will also be remembered for always putting the needs of others before her own. She was predeceased by her husband John in 1984. She then met Al Cesonis, her devoted companion who predeceased her in July 2008. We will always keep you close to our hearts, until we meet again. PETRYNA, William - In Loving memory of William “Bill“ Petryna, who passed away peacefully on October 20th, 2008 in the kind attention of Extendicare (Falconbridge) Alzheimers Unit. Born to Peter and Nellie (nee Woloschuk) Petryna both predeceased of Coniston, on April 6, 1926, he was in his 83rd year. Bill was a devoted and loving husband of Elvi Petryna (nee Johnson) these past 55 year. Bill quietly proud of his offspring: Brenda, of Sudbury and her children Sara, Jay and Brian (father Michael Hennessy), Greg of Sudbury and his children Stephen, Heather and Christopher (mother Lorrie Petryna - nee Sarmatiuk), and Cathy of Stratford and her children Peter, Victoria, Tiffany, and Timothy (father Kevin Clay). Predeceased by his siblings, Mary Rukhyski, Ann Stranger, Lena Tataryn and Alex. Sadly missed by nieces and nephews. Bill was a tireless worker, a careful craftsman, and a tenacious competitor. These attributes served him well in his work and his play. His baseball pitching prowess as a young man earned him a tryout in the big leagues, and also a job opportunity at Inco. There he learned his trade as a electrician, which allowed him to establish his own successful company, in 1965, Petryna Electric Ltd. He continued his work into his 70's enjoying retirement time at Treasure Island in Florida in the cold season and the West Arm of Nipissing camp in the warm season. Bill's involvement in sports went well beyond his baseball playing days. He was a sponsor and coach of a number of successful youth hockey teams, and in later years he was an enthusiastic golfer. His sporting interests were reflected in the athletic accomplishments of his children and grandchildren, of whom he was a loyal, and at times gently critical fan. Of proud Ukrainian heritage, Bill was a man of faith and an active supporter of Catholic parishes in Coniston, Sudbury, and in Florida. PHIBBS, Tean (Christina)(nee Spence) - A very special light has passed from among us into the presence of her Lord. With family by her side, Tean (Christina) Phibbs (nee Spence) of Forest died peacefully at the Mitton Site of Bluewater Health in Sarnia on Sunday, October 19th, 2008 in her 92nd year. Beloved wife and best friend of Herb Phibbs (1996). Loving mother of Shirleyann Phibbs and Wendy and Larry Wellington of Forest, Terry and Florence Phibbs of Red Deer, Alberta and Jack and Gabriele Phibbs of Gull Lake, Alberta. Much loved Grandmother of Jody and Bart Dyrland, Kelly and Wade Becker, Chad and Kim Wellington, Ryann and Tom Hoskin and very special Great “Grandma Teanie” to Taylor, Danielle and Jackson Dyrland, Christian, Tyne and Seth Becker and Chad (CJ) Wellington. After marrying Herb, her life companion in 1937 they eventually in 1960 settled on the 6th line of Plympton for the next 25 years. Mom was a dedicated worker and Sunday school teacher at People's Church on London Rd. where she played the piano for 30 years. In the early days of Temple Baptist Mom played the piano and sang with Rev. Hal McBain on the Christian Radio Station in Port Huron. For the past several years Mom has lived in Forest and is a member of Forest Baptist Church. Mom loved her Lord, her family, music and above all children. Her great delight was baking and feeding everyone who walked through the door. The kettle was always on and Tean would always have time to listen. Visitation will be held at the Forest Baptist Church (19 Prince St., Forest) on Friday, October 24th, 2008 from 1-3 and 6-9pm. ZOLINSKI, Helena 2008-10-21 The death of Helena Zolinski, formerly of Flin Flon and Thunder Bay Ontario occurred at Dinsdale Personal Care Home, Brandon, Manitoba, on Sunday, October 5, 2008. Helena was born August 24, 1924 in Thunder Bay, attending Crawford school there. She had a large family and spent many years raising her family. In 1966 she started and new career in draperies and upholstery and in 1970 became a chamber- maid at the Flin Flon Hotel, progressing to cook, which she thoroughly enjoyed until retirement. Helena was a member of Westfort Prosvita Women’s Auxilary, Life Member of Westfort Prosvita Society and the Broadway Church, Wednesday morning Craft Group. She enjoyed quilting, sewing, knitting, crocheting, cooking, flower gardening, jigsaw puzzles, card playing and especially visiting with family and friends. Helena was predeceased by: Stanley Zolinski, daughter, Marsha; sons Terry, Leonard and Ron Zolinski; parents Mary and John Wdowiak and brother Bernard Wdowiak. She is survived by: daughter, Susan Klyne, son Steve Zolinski (Wanda), son Mike Zolinski (Esther); daughters-in-law Diane Zolinski and Patty Zolinski. She also leaves grandchildren Carol Reimer(Steve), Rupert Klyne (Sandy), Selena Moar (Darryl), Kari Zolinski (Ryan), Terry Zolinski, Chad Zolinski (Holly), Brett and Jason Zolinski. There are nine great grandchildren and one great great grandson as well as sister Julie Mosuk (Gene). The Ceremony to Celebrate Helena’s Life was held on Friday, October 10, 2008 at Memories Chapel with Major Velma Preston officiating. All in attendance were considered Honorary Pallbearers. McKINNON, Donald "Neil" July 12, 1939 - October 18, 2008 Donald "Neil" McKinnon, beloved husband of Audrey of Calgary, passed away on Saturday, October 18, 2008 at the age of 69 years. Neil was born in Antler, SK on July 12, 1939. Neil married Audrey in 1961 in Drumheller, AB. He worked for over thirty years with Nova and Trans Canada as a pipeline foreman. Over the years, Neil worked throughout Alberta and overseas. In 1993 Neil retired from Trans Canada, to begin his own company Nu Start Consulting. Neil's greatest passion was to work, he loved to golf and go camping. Neil enjoyed playing cards and games, always hoping to be the best. He was a very loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather. Neil especially enjoyed family get-togethers and was very proud of all his children's and grandchildren's accomplishments. He will be dearly missed by all those whose lives he touched. Besides his loving wife, Audrey, Neil is survived by his sons and daughters-in-law, Brent and Kathy, Rick, Darren and Cindy; his grandchildren, Lindsey, Mitchell, Sarah, Brad and Max; his brother and sister-in-law, Robert and Myrna as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. RAWLINSON, John Illtyd January 7, 1923 - October 19, 2008 It is with deep sorrow that we announce the death of John I. Rawlinson of Calgary, who passed away on Sunday, October 19, 2008 at the age of 85 years. John was a flying instructor in the RCAF, a fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants, and a fellow of the Chartered Institute of Secretaries. His career included time at George A. Touche, California Standard, Triad Oil, and BP Exploration. Since retirement, John has been an active member of TARA (Talisman Retirees Association). He served on many committees of the ICAA and CICA and was president of the ICAA from 1967 to 1968. He was involved in the Rotary Club of Cranbrook, the Kiwanis Club of Calgary and helped form the Better Business Bureau of Calgary. He was president of the Petroleum Accountants Society of Western Canada and served on the Board of Directors of the United Way of Calgary. He was extensively involved in his Church, a founding parishioner, member of St. James choir and chairmen of the parish council. John was a trustee of the Calgary Separate School Board, president of the Calysmen Club, founding president of Sacred Heart Home and School, member of the diocesan mission council, treasurer on the Board of Management of the Providence Creche Society and president of the Calgary Chapter of the Canadian Council of Christians and Jews. John is survived by his three children, Rosalind (Sr. Mary Rose FCJ), Pamela (Claude LeVallee) and Margaret (Pierre Boulanger); his four grandchildren, Jean-Charles (Nathalie), Charlene, Jeanne (Jean) and Annie-Claude (Jonathan); his five great-grandchildren, Samuel, Sean, Emma, Luca, and James; two sisters-in-law, Rosalind McWilliams in northern Ireland and Florence Fitzpatrick in Regina; brother-in-law James (Sydney) Williams in Medicine Hat; niece Joan (Malachy McGreevy), her siblings, children and grandchildren, nephews Pat Fitzpatrick, David and Dan Williams and their families. John was predeceased by his beloved wife Joan, in November 2004. COULSON, Sandra Mary - In loving memory of Sandra Mary Coulson, 57 years, of Bracebridge, who passed away Sunday, October 19th, 2008 at the SRH - Laurentian Site. Sandra was born in Sudbury. Sandra taught from 1970 - 1972 in Cognashene on Georgian Bay at a one room schoolhouse; then 1972 - 1981 at MacAulay Public School; then 1981 - 1986 at Glen Orchard Public School; then 1986 - 2003 at Monck Public School in Bracebridge. Sandra was a dedicated teacher who was a friend and advocate to children, always going the extra mile to help them. A very talented person, she sewed, knit, created stained glass and cooked. Sandra had a great appreciation of nature. She will be missed by her canine buddy Deagan and she joins in heaven her former dogs Reuben and Hogan. Sandra was devoted to her loving family especially her precious nieces and great niece. Beloved daughter of Gregg and Rose Coulson of Capreol.
