BARNETT, Randall Blair August 18, 1951 - October 16, 2008 Passed away in Abbotsford, B.C. after a short illness. Son of the late Arthur and Jean Barnett. Predeceased by his son Robin and brother Wayne. Father of Jessica, Michael and Allison. Sadly missed by his brother Robert and his sisters Fay (Sonny), Sandra and Wendy. Special thanks to his niece Kelly whose devotion and loving care enabled Randy to spend his final days in comfort. Cremation will take place in Abbotsford with interment in Ottawa at a later date. Susan died very peacefully and with great dignity, leaving behind the love of her life Jimbear (James Gordon Connell). Loved mother of Stephanie Smith (Ralph Zabel) and Andrea Richardson (Adin) both of Chelsea, Quebec. Cherished grandmother of Ben Zabel, and dear sister of Marlie Tilker (Jim) and Sandy Ritchie. Susan was predeceased by her mother Grace (Harbottle) and her father Wells Ritchie. She will be fondly remembered by her nieces, nephews, all her extended family and friends. WALLINGFORD, Sidney Milton Sidney passed away peacefully on Sunday, October 19, 2008 at the Civic Campus of the Ottawa Hospital at the age of 83. He was the son of George Emile Wallingford and his wife Irene (nee Vessot). He served 3 years in the Army Service Corps and later became a civil servant. He leaves 4 sisters, Lilian Pedley of Niagara-on-the-Lake, Emily Davis of Lethbridge, AB, Dorothy Allen of Ottawa, and Myrtle Burnell of Langley, BC. He is also survived by 3 younger brothers, Errol (Iris) of Sydenham, ON, Dr. Ronald Wallingford of Sudbury, and Richard of Warren, ON. There are many nieces and nephews who will mourn Uncle Sid who was an expert fisherman. CUSHEN, Michael Thomas. Died peacefully on October 18, 2008. He faced cancer with courage and determination. Dearest husband and best friend of Dayle Anderson and proud and loving father of Sean (Chantal) and Tim (Queenie). Grandfather of sweet little Madolyn. Michael was the dear son of Florence Stevens and the late Thomas and Mary Cushen and the son-in-law of Esther Anderson. He is survived by his sister, Wendy Cushen, and his brothers Laird Stevens and Cliff Stevens. Mike will be remembered fondly by his extended family of relatives and by his close friends. Mike enjoyed his long career as a West Island realtor working with clients and colleagues. We appreciate the compassionate and excellent care provided by the Montreal General's Dr. Charlebois, Dr. Vuong, Dr. Alcindor and their complete teams and to Moliny of the CLSC. GEMMEL, Patricia Jay July 27, 1948 - October 18, 2008 It is with profound sadness that the family announces the passing of our beloved Pat Gemmel on Saturday, October 18. She leaves behind her new grandson Campbell, of whom she was extremely proud, her children Taylor, Curtis, his wife Kelly, and Dayna; her mother Helen Philley, sister Kim Obrigewitsch (Charlie) and their children Cameron and Jaylyn. Pat also leaves behind her life partner John Howard and his children David, wife Kerri, Nick, wife Renee and a large extended family and numerous friends. She is predeceased by her father Ray Philley of Regina, SK. Pat grew up in Regina, where she met and married Bob Gemmel. They moved to Calgary in the seventies and raised their three beautiful children. Pat spent the last twenty-two years as the high school secretary at Calgary Academy where she touched the lives of countless students and staff, especially Lynn Morin, her best friend. She was a second mother to many of her children's friends, cousins, and numerous family pets. The family wishes to express a special thank you to the Bogard family for their support during this difficult time. Pat was the glue that held her family together. We will all remember her beautiful laugh, sense of humour, and her "special presents" for the people who shared her life. Pat had the enviable gift of making friends with everyone she met. WOODLOCK, Patrick Anthony October 3, 1922 - October 17, 2008 Patrick Anthony Woodlock, beloved husband of Cecilia Woodlock of Calgary, passed away on Friday, October 17, 2008 at the age of 86 years. Patrick served in WWII in the Royal Canadian Navy. He spent most of his working career with Hudson's Bay Company. Patrick was a devoted husband and loving father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He will be missed by all. Besides his loving wife of sixty-two years, Patrick is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Gerry and Judy Woodlock of St. Albert, AB, and Fred and Patti Woodlock of Black Diamond, AB; twelve grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his brother Vincent Woodlock and sister Doreen Mack. KOSIOR, Paul It is with great sadness that the family announces the passing of Paul Kosior at the age of 63 on October 18, 2008 after a valiant battle with cancer. Paul was born on August 4, 1945 in Turner Valley, Alberta. He is survived by his mother Minnie, sister Eileen, brothers John (Janet) and Jim (Bev), nieces and nephews Jeremy, Jayme, Rob, Lisa, David, Jenny, Catherine and Sofia. Paul immensely enjoyed his special aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. He was predeceased by his father Karl in 1988. Paul had a beautiful mind and those who were fortunate enough to know him will forever be touched in a profound way. Paul always faced difficult situations with a strong sense of hope and faith. He chose to look at life with an optimistic attitude, despite facing several serious health problems. His heart always remained kind and thoughtful and he was forever showing concern for everyone else's welfare. All enjoyed his sense of humour and intelligent thought. He was beautiful in every way - gentle and gracious to the end. Paul - so loving and dearly loved - you are in our hearts forever. The family would like to thank everyone for your cards, flowers, and offers of help. Your many kind words were deeply appreciated and will always be remembered. ZALEWSKI, Stanislawa (Stacey) (nee Kuriata) September 21, 1935 - October 20, 2008 Stanislawa (Stacey) Zalewski of Calgary, passed away peacefully and surrounded by her family, on Monday, October 20, 2008 at the age of 73 years. Stacey was born in Potasnia, Poland. She met her husband John Zalewski in 1960, after which they immigrated to Uranium City, SK, where they settled down and had four children, Rick, Sophie (Adrian), Waldy (Tammy), and Jane. In 1975, the family made the move to Calgary. Stacey was also blessed with six grandchildren, Nicholas, David, Mark, Thomas, Jake, and Ethan. She is also survived by her sister Sophie (Peter) and their children Adam (Catherine) Olivia and Christopher and friend Dana. Stacey spent and enjoyed many hours tending to her gardens. She was also an exceptional cook, especially when preparing meals of her traditional food. She will always be remembered for her marinated lamb (baran). Stacey will be lovingly remembered for her sense of humour and her easy nature in making many good friends. She will also be remembered for always putting the needs of others before her own. She was predeceased by her husband John in 1984. She then met Al Cesonis, her devoted companion who predeceased her in July 2008. We will always keep you close to our hearts, until we meet again. Walter was born in Poland and immigrated to Canada in 1951 with his wife Sonja, son Dieter and daughter Monika. Walter found employment with UGG and retired from there in 1980. Walter enjoyed camping, travelling and gardening but his family by far was most important to him. PETRYNA, William - In Loving memory of William “Bill“ Petryna, who passed away peacefully on October 20th, 2008 in the kind attention of Extendicare (Falconbridge) Alzheimers Unit. Born to Peter and Nellie (nee Woloschuk) Petryna both predeceased of Coniston, on April 6, 1926, he was in his 83rd year. Bill was a devoted and loving husband of Elvi Petryna (nee Johnson) these past 55 year. Bill quietly proud of his offspring: Brenda, of Sudbury and her children Sara, Jay and Brian (father Michael Hennessy), Greg of Sudbury and his children Stephen, Heather and Christopher (mother Lorrie Petryna - nee Sarmatiuk), and Cathy of Stratford and her children Peter, Victoria, Tiffany, and Timothy (father Kevin Clay). Predeceased by his siblings, Mary Rukhyski, Ann Stranger, Lena Tataryn and Alex. Sadly missed by nieces and nephews. Bill was a tireless worker, a careful craftsman, and a tenacious competitor. These attributes served him well in his work and his play. His baseball pitching prowess as a young man earned him a tryout in the big leagues, and also a job opportunity at Inco. There he learned his trade as a electrician, which allowed him to establish his own successful company, in 1965, Petryna Electric Ltd. He continued his work into his 70's enjoying retirement time at Treasure Island in Florida in the cold season and the West Arm of Nipissing camp in the warm season. Bill's involvement in sports went well beyond his baseball playing days. He was a sponsor and coach of a number of successful youth hockey teams, and in later years he was an enthusiastic golfer. His sporting interests were reflected in the athletic accomplishments of his children and grandchildren, of whom he was a loyal, and at times gently critical fan. Of proud Ukrainian heritage, Bill was a man of faith and an active supporter of Catholic parishes in Coniston, Sudbury, and in Florida. Di GIOSEFFO, Giuseppe Luigi, June 12, 1917 - Oct. 20, 2008. It is with great sadness that the family of Giuseppe Joe Di Gioseffo announce the death of a much loved husband, father, nonno, brother-in- law, and uncle. Giuseppe was born in Buia, Udine, Italy to Augusto and Assunta (nee Plos) Di Gioseffo (predeceased). He was the beloved step-son of Giovanna (nee Coletti), and brother of Miro, Augusta, Romana, Artura, Egle, and Vittorio, (all predeceased). He met his wife of 59 years in Italy and came to Canada with a young family in 1954. With his wife Giuseppina, he provided a strong foundation for his children and passed on to them the values of hard work, living simply, and putting family above everything else. Like his namesake, St. Joseph, Joe earned a living working with his hands as a labourer with many companies. He last worked as a caretaker for the Sudbury School board until retirement age. In healthier years, he enjoyed his garden, winemakeing, hunting, fishing and most of all cooking the bounty of his labour. He was proud to be an Alpini and was also a member of the Fogolar Furlan. Sadly missed but never forgotten by his wife Giuseppina, his 2 children Augustine, and Amelia de Blacam, Loretta and Killian whom he loved as though they were his very own, grandchildren Joseph, and Alexandra Di Gioseffo and sisters-in-law, brother-in-law, nieces and nephews in Canada, Italy, and Switzerland, Mandi Zeff. The family would like to thank the many people who looked after Joe during his lengthy stay at the Sudbury Regional Hospital, particulary, Dr. Anthony Graham and his team who enabled him to make such progress after his stroke, Dr. Dhatt, and Dr. Lynch and the many compassionate and dedicated nurses, team members and volunteers of the Complex Continuing Care Unit. ZOLINSKI, Helena 2008-10-21 The death of Helena Zolinski, formerly of Flin Flon and Thunder Bay Ontario occurred at Dinsdale Personal Care Home, Brandon, Manitoba, on Sunday, October 5, 2008. Helena was born August 24, 1924 in Thunder Bay, attending Crawford school there. She had a large family and spent many years raising her family. In 1966 she started and new career in draperies and upholstery and in 1970 became a chamber- maid at the Flin Flon Hotel, progressing to cook, which she thoroughly enjoyed until retirement. Helena was a member of Westfort Prosvita Women’s Auxilary, Life Member of Westfort Prosvita Society and the Broadway Church, Wednesday morning Craft Group. She enjoyed quilting, sewing, knitting, crocheting, cooking, flower gardening, jigsaw puzzles, card playing and especially visiting with family and friends. Helena was predeceased by: Stanley Zolinski, daughter, Marsha; sons Terry, Leonard and Ron Zolinski; parents Mary and John Wdowiak and brother Bernard Wdowiak. She is survived by: daughter, Susan Klyne, son Steve Zolinski (Wanda), son Mike Zolinski (Esther); daughters-in-law Diane Zolinski and Patty Zolinski. She also leaves grandchildren Carol Reimer(Steve), Rupert Klyne (Sandy), Selena Moar (Darryl), Kari Zolinski (Ryan), Terry Zolinski, Chad Zolinski (Holly), Brett and Jason Zolinski. There are nine great grandchildren and one great great grandson as well as sister Julie Mosuk (Gene). The Ceremony to Celebrate Helena’s Life was held on Friday, October 10, 2008 at Memories Chapel with Major Velma Preston officiating. All in attendance were considered Honorary Pallbearers. Interment followed at Rosewood Memorial Gardens. NOBLE-HAY, Kitty (nee Hilda Lily Harvey) August 23, 1928 - October 20, 2008 Kitty passed away peacefully on October 20, 2008 at the age of 80, surrounded by her family at the Southwood Hospice in Calgary. Kitty is survived by her loving husband Ron, her daughter Tracey (Ross), son Jeffrey and her three beautiful grandchildren, Tiffany, Brad and Lindsay; her daughter-in-law Lori, as well her sister Elsie (Reg), their son Bruce and daughters Sheila and Dianna. Kitty was born in Calgary, Alberta on August 23, 1928. She was a "Life Long Calgarian" something she was very proud of. She grew up in the lower Mount Royal area of Calgary and was always amazed at how much this city she loved so much has changed. As a little girl her family moved to England and she held onto many fond memories of playing amongst those cobblestone streets. Once back in Calgary as a vivacious young woman, she set out to make her way and find her soulmate. Kitty was never afraid of hard work and was a valued employee at every company she was employed at over the years. Kitty did meet her shining knight, as she liked to call him. That man was Ken Noble. They fell in love, were married in 1948 at St. George in the Pines Church in Banff and began their life together. They lived in Vancouver for a few years while Ken earned his degree at UBC and Kitty supported them both. But of course Calgary was home and they moved back here where Ken began his career in the Oil and Gas Industry. Both Ken and Kitty enjoyed socializing with their many friends and travelling. They welcomed two children, Tracey in 1964 and Jeffrey in 1966, that Kitty was so proud of. Kitty began a long and lucrative career in real estate in 1970. This was the perfect fit for her as she enjoyed the interaction with people and it led to some lifelong friendships. Kitty adored her three grandchildren. Tiffany, born in 1984, Bradley, born in 1986 and Lindsay, born in 1990. Her time spent with them were some of her most cherished moments, filled with lots of laughs and of course lots of grandma's good cooking! After Ken's death in 1987, Kitty continued to be active with her charities and continued globetrotting around the world with friends. Kitty was lucky enough to meet a second man to share her life. Ron Hay was a longtime friend that came back into her life and they were married in 1994. Together they shared lots of laughs, family time and generally got up to petty mischief! Her love of people led her to be an active supporter of many charitable organizations over the years. She was a member of the Heritage Park Society, Calgary Tourist Bureau, Variety Club and also sat on the Calgary Real Estate Board for twenty years. There is so much more to say about Kitty, she was a great gal, larger than life and will be missed by many. WAUGH, Diane R. Diane Waugh died peacefully in Sackville, New Brunswick on Monday October 20, 2008 following a long and courageous battle with cancer. Diane was born and raised in Ottawa, a loving daughter of the late Ludger and Doris (Burns) Parent. Diane enjoyed a long and successful career in the Federal Government in Ottawa with the Agricultural Dept. as well as the St Lawrence Seaway Authority and in her latter years in Moncton N.B. with Transport Canada (Airports). She is survived by her beloved husband of 21 years, John; sister, Judy (Marc Rouleau) and brother Armand "Butch" (Lorraine Potvin). She was a devoted and cherished aunt to Brent (Suzie) Rouleau, Lisa (Corey) Rouleau, Chantal (Brant) Pethick, Ron (Carol) Parent, Amanda (Mark) Kearns. A very special great aunt to Brayden, Cailyn, Ryder, Brendan & Rose. Diane loved her life in the maritimes with John. Her kindness, generosity and big, beautiful smile will be missed by all those who knew her. PAQUIN, Lucien Joseph Stanislas. September 14, 1923 - October 7, 2008. Predeceased by his beloved wife of fifty-two years, Jacqueline (Mulcahy). Survived by his children Lawrence (Wendy), Jean, Luc, and his grandchildren Jacqueline and Kimberly. In his life he was a licensed electrician and a missionary, in spite of the lack of a completed formal education brought on by the Great Depression. Lucien loved his family, grandchildren, music of most kinds, his dogs, repairing anything that was broken, delighted in puzzles, and until his eyesight failed he reveled in his stamp collection. He encouraged his children to pursue their dreams, even if those dreams meant that he hardly saw them. Lucien did not want a public service; the immediate family will be having a private ceremony.
