He leaves to mourn his devoted wife of fifty years Anahid (nee Chidemian), his son Kevork, and his daughter Adrine. Survived by his cousin Hmayag Amendjian and his family of Montreal, and his cousin Haig Abadjian and his family of UK. ALLEN, Rovelle Harper He was born September 5, 1910, the only child of James and Jessie (Harper) Allen and grew up on their farm near Aylesbury, Saskatchewan. Attended Regina College, and University of Saskatchewan where he obtained a BSc and MSc in Chemistry. Continued his studies at University of Wisconsin in Madison, graduating with a PhD and MD. He came to Ottawa to the Laboratory of Hygiene (later the Laboratory Centre for Disease Control) in 1943 where he remained until retirement in 1975. Pre-deceased by his first wife Viola Harvey whom he married in 1941. Survived by: his second wife, Shirley Home van Sickle; his sons Larry (Lee) and Les (Cathy); daughter Lynne (Loney); grandchildren Sandy, Michael (Mary Ann), Jamie, Carolyn, David and Jessica. Rovelle died on Saturday, October 11 at Ottawa Hospital, Civic Campus, after a short illness. He will be greatly missed for his qualities of kindness, good judgment, gentleness and humour. Friends are invited to visit Friday, October 17 from 12:30 to 2:30 pm at Hulse, Playfair and McGarry, Central Chapel, 315 McLeod St. Funeral Service will take place at 2:30 pm in the Chapel. Née le 25 octobre 1911, elle était fille de feu John J. Ward et de feu Célina Savoie. Elle laisse dans le deuil une fille, Madeleine (feu Wilson Stewart); cinq petits-enfants: Allan, Roy, Lane, Maureen et Glenn; neuf arrière-petits-enfants: Sharon, Janis, Angie, Bruce, Tania, Wendy, Wesley, Marie-Chantal et Valérie; quatre arrière-arrière-petits-enfants: Andrew, Madelyn, Wilson et Mikayla; ses filleules: Lorna Chiasson et Doris Thériault; une belle-soeur, Lucienne (feu William J. Ward), ainsi que plusieurs neveux et nièces. Cinq frères: Omer, Jean-Paul, William, Césaire et Renel, ainsi que cinq soeurs: Elisabeth, Justina, Martina, Léda et Amanda, l’ont précédée dans la tombe. SMITH, Vera Margaret Peacefully at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital on Sunday, October 12, 2008, of Mrs. Vera M. (nee Jenkins) Smith of Charlottetown, in her 85th year. Beloved wife of the late Douglas Barton Smith and dear mother of Fred (Anne), Glen (Nancy Rattray), Penny Moffatt, Wayne (Dail), Dale (Cecil) Hurry, Cindy (John) Thistle, Kerry (Sherri) and daughter-in-law Karen Smith. Vera will also be lovingly remembered by her 18 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; sisters and brothers, Mina Wood, Ontario, Winston Jenkins, Ann McClintick, Lillian MacKinnon, Donna Acorn, Connie (Preston) Wotton, all of Charlottetown; sisters and brothers-in-law, Laura Jenkins, Reg Smith, Clair (Judy) Smith and numerous nieces and nephews. KOZLICH, John Michael - It is with deep sadness that we announce the sudden passing of John Kozlich at his home on October 11th, 2008 in his 76th year. Son of the late Jim and Anne. Beloved husband of Mildred (nee Spigelski), dear father of son Mark (Carrie) and daughter Mary (Larry). John is also survived by his brother Jim and family Barb, Wendy, Tanya and Jaxon, cousin Barb (Jerry) Sinwaski and by his brother-in-law Joe Spigelski and family. John was a long-time employee of Inco's Mines Exploration Department. In retirement he won an international award for website design, gardened passionately and became an accomplished bird carver. BERGSMA, Douglas (Douwe) - After a courageous battle with cancer on Sunday, October 12th, 2008, in his 80th year, Doug Bergsma passed away peacefully at the Stedman Community Hospice. Doug was the devoted and loving husband of Joyce (Jikke), for over 52 years, and cherished Dad and Opa to Teresa and Al Prinzen, Jim, Jennifer, Matthew and Jordan Bergsma, Paul, Alison, Hayley, Patrick and Gillian Bergsma, and Darlene, Dave, Tyler and Kyle Conway. Dear brother and brother-in-law of Bill and Jenny, Tini and the late Tiemen, Shirley and Henk, George and the late Shirley, Martin and Gretha, Walter and Karen, Bill and Frances, Jenny and the late Tony, Grace and the late George, Tini and Arie, Tom and Auk, and uncle of many caring nieces and nephews. Doug immigrated to Canada from the Netherlands in 1952 and had a varied career in the millwright industry. He was a life-long member of Hope Christian Reformed Church and was involved in many volunteer organizations such as the Dutch International Village and the Veteran's Luncheon. He had a great love of singing, being a member of the Ambassadors Christian Male Chorus and the Grand River Chorus. Doug's beautiful gardens have always been enjoyed by his family and friends. GRANT, Lyle R. - Peacefully, at St. Joseph's Life Care Centre, Brantford on Saturday, October 11, 2008 Lyle R. Grant of Brantford, formerly of Straffordville passed away in his 94th year. Predeceased by his parents, Harry and Florence and brother Jack. Lyle is survived by his wife Madge (nee: Wolfe) of Brantford; his son Jim Grant and his wife Sharon of Brantford; daughter Lucille “Sam“ Grant of London; grandson Jason Grant and wife Leanne of Pound Ridge, New York; granddaughter Jacqueline Liddle and husband Steve of Callandar; four great grandchildren; sisters Muriel Grant and Verna Brown both of St. Catharines, as well as many nieces and nephews. Lyle lived most of his life in Straffordville, which he considered the best place on earth. He was very proud of his family, and especially proud to have recently celebrated his 70th wedding anniversary. In Straffordville, Lyle was a prominent and successful businessman being the founder of Grant Motors; he was a member of the Straffordville United Church, and a Charter Member of the Straffordville Lions Club. JENSEN, Paul Neils - Of Port Robinson passed away peacefully with family by his side on Sunday October 12, 2008 at McMaster Hospital in his 73rd year. Beloved husband of 42 years to Ruth. Loving father of Anne Marie and Robert (Jenny). Proud grandfather of Ashley, Emma, Leah, Ryan and Jonas. Cherished brother of his sister Elin and brother Kaj (Darlene), both of Canada as well as Anna Sofia, Aase (Lucien), Lis (Ingvard), Marit, Gunner (Sonja), Svend (Ingrid) and Jon (Joan) all of Denmark. He was predeceased by his parents Anne Marie and Hagbart, his parents-in-law Violet and Percy Sodtke, and his brothers-in-law Henrick Jensen and Karl Hemmingsen. Paul was born on November 13, 1935 in Denmark and immigrated to Canada in 1964. He Met Ruth in 1964, they wed in 1966 and have called Port Robinson home since 1968. Paul was a skilled tradesman and was a 43 year member of Bricklayers Local 4, St. Catharines. He worked on several local projects before spending 27 years with Vesuvius Refractories in Welland (formerly Premier, Combustion Engineering) until his retirement in 1998. McFARLAND Harold Nelas - In Loving memory of Harold who passed away peacefully on Friday October 10, 2008 at the Southlake Regional Health Centre Newmarket , at the age of 67. Harold left school at an early age to help his parents on their farm and continued to work hard all his life including spending his last 20 years working as a transport truck operator. Harold was a wonderful man, happiest spending his free time at home with his wife Linda and forever faithful friend Buddy. Harold enjoyed refinishing antique furniture, the odd night out at the racetrack, and in general loved to putter. Harold loved country music and enjoyed going to see his favorite musicians perform in concert. Beloved husband of Linda, father of Brian, Patrina, and Jeffrey. Loving father figure to Tracey and Karen, and grandfather to Joey, Katie, and Tess. The family is grateful to the staff on the 6th floor of the Southlake Regional Health Centre for making his last days very comfortable. Donations may be made to the SPCA in Harold's memory.
