MATEYK, Robert - Passed away peacefully on Sunday, September 28, 2008 at the Winston Park Retirement Community at the age of 73. Dear father of Christy Byers, Mark Mateyk and Julie Birch (Tim) all of Waterloo. Brother of Ed Mateyk of Niagara Falls, Bill Mateyk of Florida and Olga Korpan of Niagara Falls. Brother-in-law of Margaret and Sylvia Mateyk. Predeceased by parents John and Helen Mateyk, brothers George, Nick and John Mateyk. Robert retired from the University of Waterloo Co- operative Engineering Dept. after 25 years service. Predeceased by her grandson Danny Markoff and 2 brothers Donald and Thomas Daly. Margaret was lifelong resident of Fort Erie. She was a Bell Pioneer, initially working as a switchboard operator retiring in 1986 as a supervisor. A woman of faith, she was an auxiliary member of the Gideons, and loved to sing in “His Signature Singers“ and her church choirs. REV. SHAUN GOVENLOCK June 15th, 1916 to September 17th, 2008 At the Ignace Bourget Residence on September 17, 2008. Born in Montreal in N.D.G. to the late John Govenlock and the late Mary (Poppy) McCarthy Govenlock. Predeceased by his sisters, Moira (Joseph Midgley) and Sheila. Loving uncle of Michael Midgley (Denise), Pauline (Geoffrey Shorrock), Mary Jo (John Lemme) and the late Sheila. Dear great uncle to Melanie (Ian Jacklin) and Christopher Midgley, Amy and Michael Shorrock, Moira, Melissa and Michelle Lemme and great great uncle to Adam and Jeremy. Fondly remembered by cousins Maureen (Wayne Arnold) of Montreal, Peter McCarthy of Bath, U.K. and the Murphy "Clan" in Michigan, U.S.A. especially Rosaleen (Becigneuil) and Sheila (Russ Callahan). In June 1943, Father Shaun was ordained to the priesthood by Archbishop Joseph Charbonneau. After a brief assignment to St. Raphael's parish, the Archbishop then sent him to the Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C. for studies in social work. On completion of his studies he became professor and assistant director of the bilingual Ecole de Service Social at the University of Montreal where he taught for 23 years. Father Govenlock also became chaplain at St. Patrick's Orphanage, a post he held for 17 years. During this time, Father was counsellor at Camp Kinkora, editor of the newspaper, swimming instructor and active participant in sports acitivities there for many years.Shaun was an avid and accomplished golfer until a few years ago and still was a devotee to watching golf on T.V. After retirement in 1981 from various academic posts, Father resided at St. Patrick's Basilica and then at Ignace Bourget Residence.Father Shaun had great devotion to the liturgy and the celebration of the Eucharist. After his retirement he made his ministry in the visiting of ill and housebound friends, former colleagues, brother priests and other members of religious orders. In latter years he made these visits by daily travel on bus and metro. Special thanks to all the staff at the Ignace Bourget Residence and to the medical staff at Hotel Dieu Hospital for their caring and compassion. GOUGLAS, Agnes Jessie February 13, 1921 - September 27, 2008 Agnes passed away gracefully on Saturday, September 27, 2008, at the age of 87. She was born in Melrose, MB and resided in Winnipeg until her move to Calgary in 1984. Agnes had many interests; she loved baking, reading, fishing and gardening. Family was the most important part of Agnes' life. She leaves to mourn, her loving husband Vincent, son Frank (Audrey) and daughter Debbie Scharein (Don); grandchildren Sheri, Greg (Geri Lynn) and Theresa Gouglas, Jessica, Stephanie and Rachel Scharein; great-granddaughters Alix and Kailah Gouglas and one great-grandbaby expected in February 2009, who she was able to see through the miracle of ultrasound the day before she passed. She also leaves to mourn, her sisters Adeline Babiuk (Robert), Janet Normand (Don), Stella Johnson and Kay Sulyma. JORGENSEN, Shirley Anne (nee Stewart) February 1, 1932 - September 27, 2008 Shirley Anne passed away peacefully on Saturday, September 27, 2008 at the Rockyview General Hospital following complications from Alzheimer disease at the age of 76 years. Shirley was employed by Imperial Oil before her retirement. She was an avid hiker and golfer. Shirley travelled extensively throughout the world, but in particular Hawaii and Mexico. She was a member of the Queens and Jack Square Dance Club for many years. COLWIN, Margaret (Nee Cummings) Passed away peacefully at the Ottawa General Hospital on Saturday, Sept. 27, 2008, age 78 years. Margaret was the dearly beloved wife of Cecil Colwin, cherished mother of Leon, (Agnes), Robert (Jane) and Pauline (Paul), devoted grandmother to Joel and Leah, loving sister to Joe (deceased), Joyce, Grace, Jean, Pat (deceased), Stan and Ken (deceased). Margaret's life was characterized by love and dedication to her family, the community and all her many friends and professional associates. A multi-talented person in many disciplines, she was selfless, modest and unassuming - almost to a fault. Born in Liverpool, England, Feb. 16, 1930, she graduated as a State Registered Nurse from the Liverpool Royal Infirmary and later became a qualified Midwife after studying at the Radcliffe Infirmary, part of Oxford University. As a midwife she delivered more than 100 babies, often visiting under-privileged homes, all by bicycle. Later she served on Lord Cohen of Liverpool's nursing team attached to the Radcliffe Infirmary. She continued her nursing career in Southern Africa, first at the Florence Nightingale Hospital in Johannesburg and then in Chingola, Zambia. In later life, she became a qualified Library Technician at Telesat Canada where she was a popular and respected figure for more than 20 years. All who knew Margaret cherished her friendship. She was a well-loved, compassionate, understanding and insightful woman whose cheerful manner and sense of humour touched the lives of family and friends, young and old. Those who wish to pay tribute to a life spent in service to others, are respectfully asked to do so in the form of a donation the Naomi Bulka Cancer Fund, at the Ottawa General Hospital, 501 Smyth Road Campus, Ottawa, Ontario, Canada, K1H 8L6. SCULLION, John Emmett 1926-2008 John passed away in Ottawa on Friday September 26, 2008 at the Madonna Long Term Care Facility. Formerly of Montreal, Quebec, John was predeceased by his beloved wife, Barbara (nee Stephen), his parents, Patrick and Hannah (nee Lennox), formerly of Ballymena, County Antrim in the British occupied north of Ireland, his sister Eileen and his brother Joseph. He is survived by his children Clare, Karen (Roger Gagnon) and Terry (Nancy Feddema), his grandchildren, Tara, Emma, Liam and Shannon, the four angels of his life, his nephew Kerry, his nieces, Ann and Erin, and their families. John had a wonderful life and a loving fifty-five year marriage to Barbara, who has been waiting so patiently for him to rejoin her. Despite the challenges he and Barbara faced, they tackled them together. He was a loving and supportive father to his children and he often worked two jobs to make sure they did not do without - especially an education, which he valued so dearly. He had great satisfaction from his more than 32 years with the Montreal Fire Department and his 8 years with the Gloucester Fire Department. John was a kind, generous and considerate man, and he will be forever missed. The Scullion family would like to express their thanks to Dr. Duchesne and the staff at Madonna Long Term Care Facility, especially Jaya, Margie, Nuala, Adam, Gerald and Sonia, for their care, compassion and kindness to John and his family in John's final months.
