OBITUARY HOPE POMEROY WAUGH (nee ROPPEL) 1919-2008 Passed away peacefully surrounded by her family at home in Hamilton, Ontario, on Saturday, September 27 at the age of eighty-nine. Devoted daughter of the late Rachel Euphrasia Roppel (nee Sturm, 1878-1966) and the Rev. Henry Ervin Roppel (1885-1970), Hope was predeceased by her husband of 38 years, the Reverend Thomas Ralph Waugh (1920-1982) and her daughter Dr. Rachel Waugh (MacPherson) (1946-1986). In addition to Rachel, Hope was loving mother of Joanna Waugh of Hamilton, Rev. Mark (Linda) Waugh of Markdale ON, and Dr. Thomas (Jason) Waugh of Montreal. Proud grandmother of Peter (Margaux) MacPherson of Kelowna BC, Dr. Sarah (Cristoforo) Brunetti of Hudson QC, Andrew (Alison) MacPherson of Toronto, and Rebecca (Blake) MacPherson of London ON, Matthew (Becky) Waugh of Fergus ON, and Daniel Waugh of Kitchener ON; mother-in-law of Dr. Ronald MacPherson of Ottawa. Proud great-grandmother of Isla and Cameron MacPherson, of Paolo Brunetti, and of Hannah and Spencer Waugh. A graduate of the University of Western Ontario and the Ontario College of Education, Hope was an inspired high school English teacher throughout her adult life. She was also a committed member of Olivet United Church, Hamilton, and, as partner in her husband's ministry, of St. John's United Church, Hamilton; Chalmers United Church, Guelph ON; Marlboro Street United Church, Brantford, ON, the three-point charge of North Street, Littlewood and White Oak United Churches (Lambeth ON), and Speers United Church, Speers, SK. Hope was born near Chippawa ON and as a child lived with her parents in Toronto, Didsbury AB, Rosthern SK, Dashwood ON and was married to Ralph in St. Jacobs ON in 1944. She is also remembered for volunteer work at the Hamilton-Wentworth Detention Centre and Tele-care (Hamilton), for her exultant soprano performance of sacred songs and hymns, and her outdoorsmanship and blueberry picking at the family cottage at Pointe-au-Baril ON. The family wishes to thank Dr. David Chan, the VON Day Centre, the visiting nurses of the Victorian Order of Nurses and the personal support workers of Paramed, as well as those staff at Henderson Hospital who were resourceful and cheerful in their care and compassion. Memorial visitation will take place at M.A. Clark & Sons Funeral Home, 567 Upper Wellington Street, Hamilton, on Tuesday September 30 from 7 to 9 p.m. A memorial service in celebration of Hope's life will take place on Wednesday October 1 at 2 p.m. at Olivet United Church, 40 Empress Avenue, Hamilton, followed by interment of Hope's cremated remains at Mt. SYDOR, Olga (nee Dolishny) - Passed away peacefully at the Port Colborne Hospital on Saturday, September 27, 2008 in her 90th year. Olga was born on May 19, 1919 in Toronto and came to Welland with her parents the late Dan and Anna Dolishny in 1920. On November 26, 1946 she married her beloved husband Thomas 'Tom' who predeceased her in 2006. Dear mother of Rick and his wife Marcia of California. She will be lovingly remembered by many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by her sister Mary Demark and brothers Bill and Steve Dolishny. Olga was a member of Sts. SIMARD, Joan (nee Smith) Joan, wife and life-long companion of Jean Guy Simard, passed away on Friday, September 26, 2008. Joan is survived by her brother Ken Smith (Ottawa) and her sister Cathy Smith (Edmonton). She will be sadly missed by her nieces and nephews, Lisa Smith (Edmonton), Bonnie-Lynn David (Edmonton), Tina Lucas (Calgary), Ryan Smith (Bracebridge, ON) and Lindsey Smith (Toronto). "Auntie Joan" will also be sadly missed by her grand-nieces and nephews: Jamie Smith, Mihaela and Jarrod David, Sullivan and Bergen Lucas and Doran Smith. At Joan's request, a private service will be held at a later date to be determined by the family. FONTAINE, John Hector Rolland (Rolly) January 1926 - September 2008 Rolly Fontaine, beloved husband of Frances (nee Mullen) Fontaine of Calgary passed away on September 28, 2008 at the age of 82 years. Rolly was born in Kimberley, BC to Omer and Ettiennette (Toni) Fontaine. Rolly worked his entire career as an electrician with Cominco in Kimberley and Pine Point, NT. He enjoyed golfing, traveling, wine making, family time, wood working and his adored puppy, Buttons. He will be sadly missed by his devoted wife Frances; his loving daughters Denise (Gordon) Irwin, Linda Hinton, and Cathy Fontaine; stepchildren, Ray (Laurie) Titiryn, Bob (Patti) Titiryn, Paulette (Paul) Kennedy; grandchildren, Christine (Dwight) Muhlbeier, Jody Irwin, Stephan (Kendra) Hinton, Chris Hinton, Jeremy Leahy, Lynsee Leahy, Barry Titiryn, Krysta (Dave) Robinson, Casey Kennedy, Jennie Titiryn, Michael (Carrie) Kennedy, and Danielle (Ken) Sutton; ten great-grandchildren; his siblings, Lucille Farran, Robert Fontaine, Jeanette Phillips, Claire Anderson and their families; and his constant companion, Buttons. Daniel Beaulieu fut d'abord maître de salle et professeur au Séminaire de Rimouski (1946-1947), puis vicaire à la Cathédrale de Rimouski (1947-1952); il fut en même temps assistant-aumônier diocésain (1947-1949) et aumônier diocésain (1949-1951) des Syndicats nationaux catholiques. Vicaire à Saint-Fabien (1952-1954), il fut au repos de 1954 à 1956 tout en faisant du service pastoral à Saint-Alexis-de-Matapédia. Il devint ensuite desservant à Saint-Elzéar-de-Témiscouata (1956-1962), curé à Biencourt (1962-1965), aumônier puis animateur de pastorale à Trois-Pistoles pour la Commission scolaire régionale du Grand-Portage et aumônier des Religieuses de Jésus-Marie de Trois-Pistoles (1965-1969), coordonnateur diocésain de la pastorale scolaire (1966-1969), président de la zone presbytérale de Trois-Pistoles (1967-1968), puis, après une année d'études (1969-1970), curé à Saint-René-de-Matane (1970-1978) et à Sainte-Flavie (1978-1985), aumônier à la maison provinciale des Soeurs de Notre-Dame du Saint-Rosaire à Mont-Joli (1982-1990). Il prit sa retraite en 1990 et vint demeurer quelques années plus tard à la Résidence Lionel Roy de Rimouski (1994).
