GARNETT, Alice Louise (nee Cowell) May 17, 1913 - September 25, 2008 - Passed away at the Brantford General Hospital, in her 96th year. Beloved wife of the late William Garnett (1962). Precious mother of Ann (Gord) Easto and Jack (Louise) Garnett. She will be lovingly remembered by six grandchildren, Scott, Greg and Blake Easto and Monique, Will and Andrew Garnett and their spouses, ten great-grandchildren and one great-great- granddaughter. Alice is predeceased by her parents Steve and Catherine Cowell, sisters Ivy Rolt and Maude Anderson. Alice was a life member of the Brant Artillery Ladies Auxiliary Club, a member of Beckett Seniors, and Woodman Seniors, where she enjoyed playing euchre, and belonged to a 10 Pin League at Echo Bowl. Our sincere thanks to the wonderful staff of Charlotte Villa for their considerate care during the past six years. According to Alice's wishes there will be no visitation. GRIESSER, Genevieve (Jenny) - At the Stedman Community Hospice on Wednesday, September 24, 2008. Jenny Griesser in her 76th year. Predeceased by her loving husband Helmut (Al) 1987. Fondly remembered by her companion Donald Barnett. Loving mother of Kirk (Patty), Elise and her husband David Houston, Adele and her husband David Fawcett, Kathleen and her husband Gord Fawcett, Kim and Eric. Loving grandmother to Harry, Darilynn, Colin, Jenelle, Shelby, Amber, Brenna, Erin and Haley. Dear sister of Willa (Bubbles) Kovac, and Owen Munro and his wife Ina. Jenny was a dedicated employee of Wyatt, Purcell, Stillman for over 55 years, and was a member of St. Andrews United Church. BLAKEY, Raymond - Suddenly passed away at his home on Wednesday, September 24, 2008 at the age of 67 years. Beloved father of Michelle Blakey. Loving grandfather of Noah Blakey. Predeceased by his parents Roy and Mary Blakey and two brothers; James and Robert. Survived by his siblings; Eleanor, Myrtle, Kenneth and Leonard. He will be sadly missed by many nieces, nephews and friends. Ray was a longstanding, devoted member of The Royal Canadian Legion - Branch 138 (Merritton). GORHAM, Vera Myrtle (nee Gidney) - On September 25th, 2008 with her family at her bedside, at McNally House Hospice in Grimsby, Vera passed away peacefully in her 84th year. Beloved wife of the late Marvon William, cherished mother of son Bill and his wife Lynda of Grimsby, and son Tom and his wife Diane of Bolton. Proud grandmother of Heather and Laura, and proud great grandmother of Damien. Dear sister of Isobel Shorney, of Bracebridge and sister-in-law of Donald Gorham and predeceased by his wife sister-in–law Marjorie, Niagara Falls. Survived by many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her 3 brothers and her sisters-in-law, Harry (Kay), George (Jessie) and Doug (Ivy) Vera worked in the elementary school system as secretary for 25 years in the Stamford and Niagara Falls Boards of Education, where she lovingly touched the lives of thousands of children before retiring to travel in 1986. She was also active in the local IODE, and a volunteer for the CNIB and the Kidney Foundation of Canada. Vera was also a long time member of Lundy's Lane United Church and a participant in the UCW programs. Vera is resting at the MORSE & SON CHAPEL of the MORGAN FUNERAL HOMES, 5917 Main Street, Niagara Falls, where her family will receive friends on Sunday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. A service to celebrate her life will be held at the funeral home on Monday afternoon at 1:30. DRISCOLL, Sister Frances Leona (Sister Mary Isabel) - Sister Frances Leona Driscoll (Sister Mary Isabel), a Grey Sister of the Immaculate Conception, Pembroke, died in Shalom Residence, Pembroke on the 26TH day of September 2008 in the 69TH year of her Religious Life. Left to mourn are the members of her Religious Community, as well as caring and devoted nieces and nephews. Predeceased by her parents, Stephen Driscoll and Evelyn Cruikshank, sisters, Ella MacDonald, Margaret Adams, Stella O'Brien, Harriot Hill, Gertrude Riel, Evelyn Trowsse and brother Frederick, Sister Isabel was born on November 17TH, 1918 in Low, Quebec. She entered the Community on September 14TH, 1940, pronouncing her final vows on July 19TH, 1945. She ministered in various areas, including Ottawa, at St. Patrick's Home, Immaculata High School, Villa Madonna Retreat House, and St. Patrick's Church as Sacristan for twenty-three years, as well as the Chinese Catholic Centre, Vancouver BC, teaching for six years. Her final years were lived in Shalom Residence, Pembroke. Resting at the Marguerite Centre, 700 Mackay Street on Sunday September 28, 2008 from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Evening Prayer at 7:00 p.m. Funeral Liturgy will be held on Monday, September 29, 2008 at 10:30 a.m. Interment St. Columba's Cemetery. LEGARE, Dr Adolphe (Al). M.D., M.sc., F.A.C.S., F.R.C.S.(C.). 1927-2008. The Doc finally relinquished his tight rein on life in the morning of September 25, 2008. Al is survived by his adored Paddy, his sons Michael Legare and Mark McCutcheon and also by his sister Juliette Whitman and her son Jon. The Doc leaves a 40 year legacy of medical practice on the Lakeshore and the Lakeshore General Hospital and numerous clinics in the area. He was particularly proud of and enjoyed his many years of involvement with the Athletic Department at John Abbott College. He will be remembered for his caring and dedication to all. Al survived a bonus 21 years with his heart transplant. It was his wish that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Royal Victoria Hospital Heart Transplant Center. Paddy and Michael wish to thank the countless number of caring and loving physicians, nurses, orderlies, cleaners, switchboard operators and the staff at the Vivalis who held Al in the highest regard and really cared. OBITUARY DOUGLAS ALBERT MUNCASTER George Medal, RCN - Retired 1925 - 2008 Passed away peacefully on September 24 in White Rock, BC. Beloved husband of Patricia (nee Whalvin) and father of Michael and daughters Rosemary (Dupuis), Joanna (Chadwick), Heather (Tait) and Jill (Lyall). Doug leaves fourteen grandchildren and two great-granddaughters. Predeceased by brother Joseph and sister Marion, he is survived by his sister Madeline Knott of Calgary and Rita Rogers of Montreal. Doug joined the Royal Canadian Air Force in their pilot training program after graduating from Darcy McGee Secondary School in Montreal in 1943. He spent five years in the Royal Navy flying from HMS Ocean in the Mediterranean. Known lovingly as "Duke", he flew the helicopter from the icebreaker HMCS Labrador which circumnavigated the North American continent in 1954. He was with the Royal Canadian Navy until he retired in 1970. Pat and Doug relocated to Vancouver in 1987. PUGH, Lewis. Peacefully at the age of ninety-six at Pierrefonds Manoir on September 24, 2008. Most beloved husband of Margaret Pearl D'Aubin for sixty-seven years. Dear father of Gwyneth Ann Wyatt (Jim), Kenneth Robert (Joanne) and Paul Marcus (Nora). Also survived by six grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren. Lewis was born in Merthyr Tydfil, Wales on February 12, 1912. Lewis is survived by two nieces and their husbands and a nephew. Predeceased by his parents Robert Pugh and Elizabeth Pugh (Price), his brother Will John and sisters Ada and Eunice. Lewis was a past member of the Montreal Welsh Choir and former employee of C.N.R. BLACK, John Francis - February 3, 1928 - September 24, 2008 - John passed away after a brief illness at Royal Jubilee Hospital in Victoria, B.C. He is survived by his wife Sylvia of fifty-seven years and his son Michael, daughter-in-law Elizabeth (Patterson), Rotterdam Holland, daughter Carole Wedholm, son-in-law Sven, Nanaimo, B.C., grandchildren Katie and Sarah, Phoenix Arizona, Brock (Erika) Osoyoos, B.C., Brandon, Vancouver, B.C. and Erik (Jenny), Tumbler Ridge, B.C. John served in the British RAF from 1946 to 1952 and the Canadian Army Provost Corp until 1979 when he retired and was Manager of the Kingston Humane Society for ten years. In 1990, John and Sylvia moved to Nanaimo on Vancouver Island. he enjoyed RVing with their motor home and walking around Colliery Dam with his two greyhounds Daisy and Lucy and the cat Sylvester always a few steps behind. John will be sadly missed by his family and many friends he made over the years. No Funeral or Memorial Service will be held, as this was his wish. ROBERTSON, Lorraine - G. Lorraine Robertson (nee Gullander), born in Brock, Saskatchewan, passed away at the age of 91, with daughters at her side in Kingston on September 19, 2008. At 15, Mom went to Saskatoon to continue her education and start her career. She met and married Clyde Oliver Robertson, her husband of 63 years. In Ontario, they raised four daughters, ever supportive while instilling each with strong family values and a sense of self worth. After a career as an executive secretary, mom earned a B.A. degree in English and Sociology from Carleton University, an M.Ed degree at the University of Ottawa and then continued her studies in a PhD program. Always a very caring and enthusiastic person, Mom gave much to her students at Stouffville H.S., and in Ottawa, at Sir Wilfred Laurier and Bell High School. As and educator and guidance counselor, she employed methods that were ahead of her time. Her positive attitude was contagious. Although Mom had many interests and contributed to her community, her family came first. Enjoying each moment and thus “building happy memories“ gave her the greatest pride and joy. Family and friends will remember her as a woman with a warm sense of humour, gentle and generous, and with a lot of class! Mom will be forever loved by her daughters; Anne (skip), Joan (Dave predeceased), Carol,, and Cathy (Danilo); grandchildren Karen (Adam), Mark (predeceased), and Todd; and great grandchildren Alex and Lindsay. The way mom lived her life is a gift to us and her inspiration will live on in all our hearts. Her spiritually and thirst for knowledge was exemplified by this quote from Teilhard de Chardin, the philosopher she admired: “The most satisfying thing in life is to have been able to give a large part of ones self to others“. Stirling “Tug” Tugwell passed away peacefully on August 24, 2008 while surrounded by his four children. Born in Milford Bay (Muskoka) , Ontario on December 4, 1924, he was the youngest of three children born to Harris and Irene Tugwell. In 1928 the family moved to New Liskeard where Stirling attended grade and high school and enjoyed all sports, especially the 100-yard dash. He served in the Canadian Army Militia (Algonquin Regiment) from 1940-1943 then enlisted in the Air Force where he graduated as a pilot, received his wings and was promoted to Sergeant. He later joined the British Navy Fleet Air Arm, then the Airborne for parachute jump training. While in England he met his future wife Peggy whom he married in December 1947. After 13 years in the RCAF, Stirling resigned his commission and took up watch making in New Liskeard for six years. He built a house on the ground yet his heart was always in the air after being fascinated by a red aeroplane at age three. In 1962 he resumed flying and flew the Arctic regions for many years. Mr. Tugwell lived on his own in Riondel, an active member of the community, appreciated by all for his wonderful sense of humour. He is survived by his daughter Linda Greenwood of Creston British Columbia, son Mike Tugwell of High River, Alberta, daughter Janis Gibbon of Castlegar B. C., and Donnah Tugwell of Black Diamond, Alberta; sisters Bernice Rogers and Fae (Alf) Spencer of New Liskeard: 17 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren and 3 nieces and 5 nephews. Cremation arrangements have been made by Olivers Funeral Home in Creston, B. C. with a Celebration of Life held at his home on Thursday, August 28. It was Stirling’s wish to have his ashes spread over the Kootenay Mountains he loved and a tree planted as a memorial. Stirling earned his RCAF wings on August 25, 1944 and now, 64 years later, he has earned them again.

NAULT, Henri - It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved “PaPa”, Henri, on Friday September 26, 2008 at his lovely home, Northland Pointe in Port Colborne where he was treated as “family” with love and respect for almost four years while being afflicted with dementia. Although the past four years were somewhat of a struggle for him, he remained in his true nature a loving, kind, generous and gentle man. Henri had many accomplishments throughout his 89 years. He was a WWII Veteran and was truly happy when he was invited back to Holland to celebrate in the 50th anniversary victory celebrations. He was an honourary member of the Royal Canadian Legion Br.4, being a founding member of its dart league. As a bachelor of 46 years, he fell in love with and married my dear mother Maggie (Magda), who predeceased him on October 29, 2005. They were married for 40 years. He instantly became a father to me when I was 18 years old, and five years later became the grandpapa of Stacey Corriveau. If it were possible to hand pick a father, Henri did not fall short of any and all expectations I had as a father and grandpapa. He also formed a very strong relationship with his loving nephew, Michael Kish. Michael visited hundreds of times and assisted with PaPa's care, mostly at meal times. Michael brought out the best in PaPa with his teasing and joking, adding laughter at every visit. PaPa lived a good, long, productive life with very little illness. He was an avid hunter and fisherman who enjoyed the sun and outdoors. He made a visit to his only grandchild's home in British Columbia, when he was 82 years old, to put his feet into the Pacific Ocean. It was a small goal of his, for he had been in the Atlantic Ocean during the war and wanted to touch both oceans that flank Canada. In his 70's and 80's, he was a member of the YMCA, enjoying the friendships that were made. He was a very likeable man who made friends readily. He often started his day with a swim and a smile, while enjoying the facilities. Henri was fortunate to be able to take an early retirement from the many years of dedicated work at the Union Carbide. He was a hard, strong worker, small in stature, but mighty in strength. He had a wonderful relationship with his mother-in-law, Terez Kaman, who taught him the art of wine making. He was a great son-in-law helping her with her household chores and gardening. Henri was a helper to all who needed him and he did it willingly. I know God has opened His heavenly gates to embrace our PaPa where he will now know the grandest of love and ecstasy in our Father's Kingdom. His reunion with his mother, father, 2 brothers and 1 sister, along with the love of his life, his “Honey Bee” Maggie, will be what he has been longing for for several years. HARTIN, Don - It is with heavy hearts that our family announce the passing of Don Hartin on Thursday, September 25, 2008. Don was born in 1939 in Kinmount, Ontario and moved north to the Iron Bridge Area cutting right of way for Ontario Hydro alongside his father Ab. It was in Iron Bridge that he met the first love of his life (late Dianne Hartin). They were soon married and had a son and daughter; Dean Hartin and Donalyn Rudnicki (Larry). They moved to the Soo where Don worked till retirement at Algoma Steel in the Transporation Department. In 1975 Don lost his wife suddenly and was left to raise two young children on his own. Hardly an easy task but he never complained. In 1983 he was finally lucky enough to find love again when he met Noreen Bradley. They were soon inseparable and married in 1985. His family now grew and he got to enjoy and be a part of Noreen's children and grandchildren's lives. He will truly miss Larry Jannison, Carol Morley (Dennis), Mary Barber (Rick). His one wish to you would be to 'please take good care of your mother for me.' He was predeceased by his parents Ab and Stella (Ted) Hartin. Special son-in-law to the late Xavier and Gladys Daigle and Nora Bradley. He was a loving brother to Fern Howe (Joe) and Helen Kellet (Brock). Special brother-in-law to the late Clive Daigle (Sue), Jerry Daigle (Linda), Shirley Johnston (Stan), Sheila Martin (late Glen), late Don and Anita Bradley and Sonny & Mary Bradley. His grandchildren and great grandchildren adored him. He will always live in the hearts of Tammy Thornton (Jim), Jimmy Morley, Todd Barber (Maggi), Tracy Barber, Ethan Hartin, Meggan, Ryan and Amy Rudnicki, Kayla and Curtis Thornton, Joel Forbes and Dalton Laroue. Don is survived by many nieces and nephews who thought the world of him and will always have fond memories of him. Don loved the outdoors, his garden, his motorcycle, children, his neighbours in the park and helping Noreen can and pickle.
