HUISH, Wesley - Passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, September 20, 2008 in his 92nd year. Loving husband of Edith (nee: Ferguson) for 54 years. Loving father of Kenny, Eddy (Maggie) of Calgary, Sandra of Guelph, Colleen (Mike) Konigshaus and Judy (Paul) Konigshaus' of St. Catharines. Grandfather to Jason, Michelle and Ryan (Konigshaus), Christopher (Huish), and Alex and Brooke (Konigshaus). Survived by his sister Dorothy, predeceased by his brothers and sisters Harold, Evelyn, Ida, Helen, Bill, Frank and Edgar. He will be lovingly remembered by his many nieces, nephews, family and friends. He was born and raised in Stayner, Ontario. He lived in St. Catharines and was employed with G.M., retiring in 1984. RUTTAN, Charles Graham Air Commodore / Brigadier General D.S.O. July 5, 1916 - September 20, 2008 Sadly, after a brief illness at the age of 92. Loving husband and friend of 49 years to Verla (2002). Father to Charles (Jr.), Jo (Jeff) and Michael. Grandfather to Jaymie, Peter, Deborah, Cheryl and Carrie. Great grandfather to several great grandchildren. A/C Ruttan served courageously and tirelessly as a military and public servant from July 4, 1938 until August 1, 1980. He was decorated for bravery in 1944 by King George VI with the Distinguished Service Order for action August 2 1943 in the Atlantic during World War II. Post WWII he attended military college in Toronto (1948-1950), transferred briefly to Rockcliffe Air Force Base (1950-1952) as a Wing Commander, moved to Tactical Air Command in Edmonton, and was promoted to Group Captain (1952-1955). From 1955-1958 and 1958-1961 he commanded Gimli, Manitoba (NATO training base) and Cold Lake, Alberta, respectively, where he continued his passion for flying fighter jets, with a particular fondness for the F86 Sabre Jet. He attended Royal Military College in London, England from 1961-1962, was promoted to Air Commondore, then returned to Ottawa and NDHQ, until 1965 when he became 41st NORAD Division Commander in North Bay, Ontario, retiring one year later. He became Assistant General Manager of Nepean Hydro, 1966-1968, and General Manager in 1968, from which he retired August 1980 to spend many happy hours at Otter Lake, Ontario. In August 2001 he and his beloved "Wirly" moved to Central Park Lodge, where he live contentedly for 6 years. Sincere thanks to everyone at Central Park Lodge, Dorothy (retired), Wilma and Lorraine, and all who were kind and helpful during his stay. Special thanks to Dr. Lisa Cross and Lorna for your kindness, care and visits. Thanks also to Dr. Sahajpal, the 3rd Floor staff at the Queensway-Carleton Hospital (Diane and Linda in particular), and Dr. Sean Pierre for his concern on Mr. Ruttans last day. McCANN, Oswald (Alex) - In loving memory of Oswald (Alex) McCann, 85 years, who passed away Monday, September 22nd, 2008 at the Sudbury Regional Hospital- Laurentian Site. Beloved husband of Rose (Bright) McCann of Falconbridge for 59 years. Born in Wigan Lancashire, England, coming to Canada when he was six to live in Timmins. Alex served in World War II in England, Holland, Italy and Belgium. He worked in Timmins at Hollinger Gold Mine before coming to work for Falconbridge Nickel Mines in 1953. Retiring in 1982 as Superintendant Maintenance Planning. Alex enjoyed many years at his haven at Kukagami Lake, was an ardent skier and loved swimming and scuba diving. Alex belonged to the Dolphin Aquatics Club. He was a life member and bugler of Falconbridge Legion Branch #336 having been awarded the distinctive Meritorious Service Medal. He was also a life member of the Nickel Centre Seniors. Predeceased by Parents Ossie and Mary McCann. Loving brother of Marie (husband Omer Swain predeceased), Jack (Kathleen) both predeceased, Eva (husband Bob Walker predeceased), Joseph (Joanne) and Robert (Pat). Remembered by sisters-in-law Gwen (Ralph) De Luca and Hazel (John DelVillano predeceased). Sadly missed by many nieces, nephews, family and friends. COLLINSON, Richard George - P. Eng, 1950-2008 - Surrounded by his loving family, Rick lost his battle with cancer on Tuesday, September 16th, 2008. Rick will be forever loved and missed by his wife and best friend of 40 years Helen (Seniw), daughter Darcie (Sudbury), son Darren (Louanne) and his favourite fishing buddies, grandsons Ricky and Marcus (Little Current), and several pets. Also left to mourn are his brothers and their families John (Crystal), Jeff (Zoria), brother-in-law, Tony Valenta all of Kenora. Rick will also be dearly missed by father and mother-in-law Nick and Olive Seniw (Kenora), sisters-in- law Lynn Seniw (Sault Ste Marie), Shelley (Ward) Sherrington (Kenora), Leah (Sam) Posteraro (Edmonton), Pauline Seniw (Dave Bongfeldt) of Ottawa, brother-in-law Dan (Jan) Seniw (Kenora) and their families. Rick was predeceased by his father Thomas (1964), mother Mary (2004), and sister Glenda Valenta (2005). He is also survived by several uncles, aunts and cousins from the Collinson and Janz families. Rick loved the outdoors and spent many happy, fun filled hours at the cottage in Bay of Islands with his family. His appreciation, respect and the peace he found in nature will live on in both his children and grandsons. He particularly cherished the time spent hiking and fishing with his grandsons. Rick was also an avid sports fan and enjoyed playing hockey and golf. At the time of his passing, Rick was a project manager with SNC Lavalin in Sudbury. He was actively involved with many groups in the Sudbury area including the Rockhaven Board of Directors. Rick inspired and touched many lives. Those who knew and enjoyed his friendship, also learned that his generous sprit was matched only by his fierce competitiveness on the hockey rink. A celebration of Rick's life will be held at Villa Loyola, 4951 Long Lake Road, Sudbury on Wednesday, September 24th, 2008 at 1:00 pm. STURMAN, William “Bill” - of Port Colborne (Gasline) passed away peacefully at his home on Saturday September 20th 2008. Loving and devoted husband of the late Margaret (MacIntyre) Sturman. Cherished and respected father of Sue Sturman-Grist (Dave) of Watertown, South Dakota, Pam Sturman (Jim) of Markdale, Ontario, Tim Sturman (Dianne) of Port Colborne and Christine Mathew (Doug) of Vancouver, BC. He was the always-smiling Grampa Bill to his grandchildren Eddy (LeeAnna) Thompson and Allison Mathew and his many nieces and nephews. He was the much loved little brother of Emma Clark of Florida, the late John Sturman and Margaret Szabo. Bill was well known and respected in the community. Through hard work and determination, he became President and owner of Glenmount Memorials and a leader in the memorial industry as a director of the “Monument Builders of North America” and President of the “Ontario Monument Builders Association”. He and Marg thought there was no place better in the world than Port Colborne and Bill worked hard to make it a better place as a volunteer Firefighter, an elected member of the School Board and as a member of the Chamber of Commerce and Industrial Commission. He was also involved in many local groups such as the Lions Club, Rotary Club, Gyro Club and the Port Colborne Club. Bill had a lifelong love of gardening and race horses – most notably his spectacularly successful namesake, “Glenmount Billy”. In recent years he grew award-winning giant pumpkins which were a testament to the care and devotion with which he approached everything in his life. GREEN, Ivan Denis November 13, 1927 - September 20, 2008 Ivan Green passed away peacefully September 20, 2008 at the Peter Lougheed Centre at the age of 80. He will be dearly missed by his wife Patricia; their three children Denis Green (Sandra) of Somerset, England, Peter Green of London, England and Carol Lamphee (David) of Calgary; four grandchildren Taylor, Sally, Melissa and Christopher and ten grandchildren. Ivan is also survived by two sisters and one brother; and predeceased by one sister and one brother. Ivan was born, raised and lived most of his life in Somerset, England, immigrating to Calgary in 2000. SUSAN A (MIRON) SPIELMAN Susan Anne Spielman, age 61, of Darien CT, USA died September 9, 2008 in Stamford Hospital in Stamford CT USA following a sudden heart attack. She passed peacefully surrounded by her loving family. Susan was born in Toronto, Canada March 23, 1947 to the late James W. and Evelyn Miron. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her brother Paul Miron and sister Diane Bennett. She was the adored bride of Peter Spielman for almost 40 years, will be sorely missed by him. Susan was the devoted mother of David (and wife Kelly) of Hamden CT, and James (and wife Samantha) of Norwalk CT. She was the beloved aunt and Godmother of Michael Bennett (and his wife Susan) of Glen Williams ON, and loving sister-in-law to Robert Bennett of Mississauga ON. Growing up in Toronto, Susan moved to Montreal where she met and married Peter. Together they returned to Toronto and then Markham ON, where they started their family, before settling in Darien in 1982. Susan was a medical and executive secretary for several years, before dedicating herself to being a homemaker and mother. Susan had a deep faith and enjoyed services at St John's and St Thomas More RC Churches and at Noroton Presbyterian Church. Like her mother, she was a talented artist, particularly known for her charcoals of dogs and wolves. A gourmet cook, she passed on her love of cooking to her son David, now an accomplished chef. She volunteered with the Darien Chapter of the Red Cross following Hurricane Katrina, and passed her compassionate nature and love of animals to her son James. She enjoyed picnics at Darien Beach and strolls around Cove Beach in the summers. In so many ways Susan personified love and kindness. Her generous spirit will be dearly missed by all who knew her. KERR, A.J. (Moose) It is with great sadness that his family announces the death of Moose (Arnold James) Kerr, suddenly of a heart attack on the afternoon of September 17, 2008, at the age of 87 years. He is survived by his wife Eleanor and his five daughters and their families - Karen & Ozay Mehmet, Sharon Kerr, Mia Kerr & Ron Meng, Mora & Henry Kablalik, and Peggy Kerr & Georges Chiha. His 14 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren and his brother Vernet's children brought joy to his life. Moose's life-long concern was social justice. As a young man he enlisted in the RCAF and served as a navigator in Bomber Command overseas. After studying social anthropology and doing research in Rupert's House, James Bay, Moose and his girls went to Aklavik, Northwest Territories where he became the first Principal of the Federal Day School. He was later honoured to have the elementary school named after him. He then came to Ottawa as Chief of the Northern Science Research Group. In that capacity he initiated and directed ground-breaking social research in Northern Canada. He was awarded an honourary doctorate from Memorial University. He will live forever in the hearts and memories of the many people who knew him. Long live those memories. DOCKSTEADER, Hubert Ellwood Passed away on Sunday, September 21, 2008 at The Hartford Retirement Centre in Morrisburg, Ontario. Hubert was born on the family farm in Cloverdale, north of Winchester on July 7, 1920. Son of the late Thomas Alexander Docksteader and Mable Lough. Beloved brother of Dr. Dalton Docksteader of Burlington (formerly of Chesterville). Uncle of Janice Docksteader Richards (David) of Oakville and Dr. Brian Docksteader (Pamela) of Calgary and great-uncle of Ryan, Mark and Ashley Docksteader all of Calgary. Hubert will be missed by his many cousins and extended family to whom he was very close. A farmer all of his life, Hubert loved his family and friends, and was a very private man who always made everyone feel comfortable. He was very grateful and appreciative of the support of his family, cousins, friends and the management and staff of The Hartford Retirement Centre. The family will receive friends at the WINCHESTER FUNERAL HOME (505 Church Street, Winchester) on Friday, September 26 from 6-9 p.m. Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, September 27 at 11 o'clock in the funeral home chapel. LA FAMILLE BERGEVIN a le regret de vous annoncer le décès de Dr Jean-Jacques Bergevin 31 mai 1948 - 20 septembre 2008 Dr Jean-Jacques Bergevin, époux, père, frère, fils, docteur et ami affectueux, est décédé paisiblement à sa maison, à l'âge de 60 ans. Jean-Jacques Bergevin est né à Casselman (Ontario) en 1948. Marié en 1970 à l'amour de sa vie, Hela Reterski, il a été un époux dévoué et un partenaire de vie extraordinaire. Il a été un père attentif et enthousiaste pour ses trois enfants bien-aimés et un grand-père fier. Diplômé de la Faculté de médecine de l'Université d'Ottawa en 1973, Dr Bergevin a voué sa carrière au service des gens de l'Est ontarien avec attention et compassion, leur offrant des soins médicaux sans pareil. Son approche traditionnelle de la médecine familiale ainsi que son amour sincère de la profession ont fait en sorte qu'il était toujours présent pour ses patients. Dr Bergevin a réalisé plus de mille accouchements et a constamment offert des soins à domicile pour ses patients. De plus, il a investi dans le développement d'infrastructures médicales et de soins gériatriques dans la région. Passionné, Dr Bergevin se donnait tout entier dans le travail comme dans le plaisir. Il vivait le moment présent et savait profiter de la vie. Il aimait voyager, apprendre, capter les moments précieux en photos et explorer les routes de l'Amérique du Nord, sur sa moto. Il a profondément marqué son entourage. Son sens de l'humour et sa joie de vivre contagieux continueront à inspirer ceux et celles qui ont partagé sa vie. SHAW, Bruce June 13, 1949 - September 18, 2008 George Charles Bruce Shaw, a gentle man of great courage, lovingly joined his parents George and Beth, and his brother-in-law Kevin, on September 18, 2008. Bruce was born in Winnipeg and spent his childhood in Elm Creek, Manitoba. He attended the University of Manitoba, graduating with a BSc degree in Engineering (Geological) in 1973. Following graduation Bruce spent his first two years working for Amoco in Drayton Valley, Alberta. He then moved to Ottawa to work for the National Energy Board for six years and received his MSc degree in Geology from Carleton University in 1981. Wishing to return to Alberta in the fall of that year, he accepted employment with Petro-Canada in their Calgary office. Over the next twenty-five years, Bruce held several positions within the Upstream Division with most of his career spent in a planning role. His desire to be part of a project led to his assignment with the Terra Nova team in St. John's, Newfoundland for a fulfilling six years. In September 2007, he was pleased to receive his Life Membership from APEGGA. Bruce enjoyed sailing on the B.C. coast, playing cards, giving surprise gifts, walking his Cairn terriers and picking up the dinner bill. Over the last two years he was able to create great memories with new and old friends in Victoria. Bruce will be dearly missed by his wife of seventeen years, Leslie Fisher-Shaw; mother and father-in-law, Berta and Lawrie Fisher; aunts Mona and Betty Shaw; uncle Lorne Shaw; many cousins and their families; and his little four-legged pal Brady. Special thanks go to Dr. Bryan Cummings, Dr. Susan Kinnear, Dr. Scot Dowden, Dr. Alison Murray, Dr. Lyle Galloway and the wonderful staff at the Tom Baker Cancer Centre including those of the Intensive Palliative Care Unit No. 47 where Bruce spent his last six weeks. Their strong support during Bruce's journey with pancreatic cancer is greatly appreciated by his family and friends. The Memorial Service will be held in Carman, Manitoba on Saturday, September 27, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. in Doyle's Funeral Chapel followed by Interment in Elm Creek beside his parents. On Tuesday, September 30, 2008 at 2:00 p.m., a Celebration of Bruce's Life will be held at Parkdale United Church, 2919 - 8 Avenue N.W., Calgary.
