Henry B. Kelly, 86, of Spencer Memorial Home, Moncton, with members of his family by his side passed away peacefully at the Moncton Hospital on Monday September 1, 2008. Born in Stilesville, he was the son of the late Duncan and Edna (West) Kelly. Henry was a retired foreman for Co-Operative Farm Services (35 years service), long time member of Parkside Baptist Church, former church treasurer, Sunday school teacher, board of trustees, chairman of the building committee and Veteran of the Second World War, served overseas for 3 years with the Canadian Armed Forces #2 Wireless. Henry was a well known sports figure in the Moncton area in past years. He was a member of the Moncton Sports Hall of Fame, NB Sports Hall of Fame, Canadian Softball Hall of Fame. Played in the Moncton District Softball League for 35 years, 29 years as a player coach. In 1970, Henry organized the Moncton Rebels Ladies Softball Team. Coach of the NB entry into the Canadian Summer Games in 1973 and 1977. He served as president of the Moncton City League for 12 years and on the NB Softball Association for 18 years, 8 of which he was president. He played a major role in bringing New Brunswick into the Canadian Amateur Softball Association in 1968 and served as commissioner for the province for 9 years. He was part of NB Softball Executive for 18 years, 8 years as president. Henry was involved in the formation of the NB Softball Umpires Association and was an active umpire for 12 years. Also, helped form NB Referee's Association and held a position of secretary treasurer for 8 years. He also refereed for 25 years in all levels of hockey below professional and was honored by the Moncton City Council by renaming Moncton City Softball Field to "Kelly Field" in 1975. Henry will be sadly missed by his wife of over 62 years, Pearl (Colburne) Kelly; daughters, Gloria Singer, Winnipeg, MB; Janice Gibbs (Ray); Lynn Kay (Peter); Dawn Kelly, all of Moncton; grandchildren, Mark, Tammy, Allan, Kelly, Shane, Shaun, Sarah and Courtney; 11 great grandchildren; one great great grandson; sisters, Beulah Phillips (Jim), Moncton; Nina Litt (late Norman), Hanover, ON; several nieces and nephews. LEE, Robert - The death of Robert Daunt (Bob) Lee of Bayswater, beloved husband of Frances L. (Ross) Lee, occurred on Sunday, August 31, 2008 at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Born at Saint John, he was a son of Verna E. (Nice) Lee and the late Henry Lee. Bob was an educator in Saint John for 35 years, serving as Principal at Ketepec-Morna Heights Schools, Hazen White -St. Francis, Bayside Junior, and finally Simonds High School, from where he retired in 1993. An avid golfer, curler, and fisherman, Bob was a member of the Westfield Golf and Country Club, and an Honourary Lifetime Member of the Carleton Curling Club, where he held many positions, including being a former President. He was also a member of the Atlantic Seniors' Golf Association, and a proud member of the Westfield Masters Golf Group. He was Past President of the Principals and Vice-Principals Council for Districts 6 and 8, and was a member of the Retired Teachers Association. Bob retired from the Naval Reserve in 1975, achieving the rank of Lieutenant Commander. He also was the Executive Officer of the HMCS Brunswicker. A man of great faith, he was an active member of the Church of the Resurrection (Parish of the Nerepis and St. John). In addition to his wife and to his mother, Bob is survived by his children, Stephanie Logan (Andrew) of Saint John, Tracy Kozij (Grant) of Richmond, BC, Ross Lee (Ann Dewar) of Lake Utopia, and Lana Whittaker (Jamie) of Saint John; grandchildren Carly and Maddie Logan, Katarina Kozij, Jacob, Maria, and Rachel Whittaker; a sister, Nancy White (Fred) of Musquash; a sister-in-law, Barb Lee of Grand Bay-Westfield; an aunt, Alice Drillon of Saint John; and several nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Bob was predeceased by his birth mother, Beatrice V. (Galbraith) Lee; a grandson, Joshua Andrew Logan; and a brother, Jack Lee. Two brothers in law; Richard McCormack, John Ross; and one sister in law, Ann Peer. Mr. Jack Irwin December 20, 1915 - August 24, 2008 It is with deep sadness that the family of John Davidson Irwin (Jack/Red) announces his passing at Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre on Sunday, August 24, 2008. Jack passed away peacefully into the arms of the Lord surrounded by the love of his family. Jack was born in Fort William on December 20, 1915, son of the late pioneers John H. & Ethel Irwin. During his younger years including the Depression, he and his sister Ruth helped on the family hobby farm. Here they cut wood, using horses to clear the land where later they grew crops, raised chickens and marketed pigs for the logging camps entering both animals & produce in the local fair each year. Later Jack sailed the Great Lakes working on the oil tanker the “John Irwin”. He knew all the shipping lines and their fleets. He also worked in the bush logging for Great Lakes Paper during the horse and log boom era. Years later, a favourite outing with his family would be visiting the stockyards in the spring & fall to see the work horses that were being transported to and from the bush via rail stock car. When World War ll broke out, Jack joined the army (Canadian Forestry Corps) where after his initial training in Valcartier, Quebec he served his country proudly while stationed in Scotland, France & Belgium. In Normandy he drove tractor trailer units hauling heavy equipment and gas to the front lines. It was in Scotland that he met Jessie Smith, his bride-to-be. They were married in 1948 after the war and enjoyed 58 years together raising a family of five children. He worked under his father (manager of the Western Grain Terminal) and later Mount McKay Feeds & Irwin Ready-Mix. He retired in 1981 after 21 years as manager of St. Lawrence Cement Company. Jack worked long, hard hours in the construction business, supplying bulk cement for the many building projects in the city and surrounding area. His work took him all over the great northwest and to all the area mining sites for which he had a keen interest. He was a people person, always generous and with a thirst for reading. He could talk on any subject-a great storyteller with a sense of humour. Jack was quite the character - a fiery redhead with the personality to match - all part of the charm. Animals and their proper care were always important to him and a big part of family life. Jessie and Jack liked to travel making sure that they visited the zoo at each location. Jack was a former member of the local purchasing and construction associations as well as a member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Kakabeka Falls Branch 225 and the Masons. He was active in the church and a lifetime member of St. Paul’s Anglican Church. Jack will be sadly missed by his daughter Joan (Dave) Ruberry, Leanne & Ian, son Jock (Mary Long-Irwin), Jonathan, Jacqueline, Carla & Carole, son James (Kerry), Kirstyn, Brent & Haley, daughter Judy and her daughters Erin (Trevor) Dunn, great-grandson Evander, Riley Bascello-Martin (Fred), great-grandchildren Elora, Reid & Hayden, son Jeffrey and sister Ruth (Alan) Sutherland of Penticton BC (en route). He was predeceased by his parents John H. and Ethel Irwin and a sister (in infancy). Cremation has taken place. Visitation for family and friends will be held at Jenkens Funeral Home, Cremation and Reception Centre next week on Thursday, September 4, 2008 from 7-9 p.m. A memorial service and celebration of Jack’s life will take place next week on Friday, September 5, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Paul’s Anglican Church with Rev. Deborah Kraft officiating. If friends so desire, donations to the charity of their choice would be greatly appreciated.

A loyal Tiger fan, Norb was once a highly touted shortstop for the Essex Maple Leafs of the Essex County Baseball League. In retirement, he enjoyed golf, bowling, square dancing and bridge. A heartfelt thank you to caregiver Joanne Mayzik, Com Care staff especially Faye Lajoie and Linda Malott, nurse Lori Bachynski and Dr. Fortuna for their compassionate care and treatment during dad’s illness. The spiritual guidance of Fr. Larry and Fr. Boutette has been a great comfort to Norb and his family. (Paule Gauvin), Francine, ses petits-enfants qu'elle affectionnait, Mark Shalhoub (Lori McPhee), Patrick Molleur, Caroline et Annik Langevin, ses arrière-petites-filles, Emilie et Sarah Shalhoub. Elle rejoint son frère Jean Bousquet (Helen), ses soeurs, Denyse (feu Claude Taschereau) et Simone. Elle laisse également ses belles-soeurs, Jacqueline (feu Jean Langevin), Françoise (feu Gérard Langevin) et Louise (feu Pierre Langevin) ainsi que de nombreux neveux et nièces, dont Maurice (Diane) et Georges (Monique) Taschereau pour qui elle était une tante bien spéciale. LOHRICH, Karl It is with great sadness that we have to say goodbye to Karl Lohrich, who passed away August 30, 2008 at his home after a short and unexpected illness. He was born in Walsum, Germany February 24, 1935. Karl came to Canada in 1954 and one and a half years later married the love of his life Ingrid. Together they raised five beautiful daughters; Lorrraine and Rick Northcott and three grandchildren Juston, Jordon, and Colton, Doris and Rob Nanninga and two grandchildren Carrie and Terrance; Rosiemarie and Ed Evans and three grandchildren Neal, Murry and Herbie; Karen and Doug Johannson and two grandchildren, Stephanie, Brandon, Marlene and Derk Fokkens and one grandchild, Brittany. EWERT, Melvin Russell June 6, 1924 - August 30, 2008 With sadness in our hearts we announce the passing in his 85th year, Melvin, husband, father, father-in-law, and grandfather. Beloved husband of Irene for sixty-one years; father of Gary (Margaret) of Oakville, Ontario, Laurie Boyd (Robin) of Water Valley, Alberta; and grandfather of Scott (Catherine), Jeffrey, and Gary who will always hold him in loving memory. Mel is also survived by his brother Orin, and numerous relatives and friends. Mel is predeceased by his son Dean (1973), nine brothers, and four sisters. Mel was born and grew up on the family homestead near Drake, Saskatchewan, the youngest of fifteen children. He served in the Canadian Infantry Corps from October 1944 to September 1945 as Private Rifleman. Mel devoted many years to his public service career in both Municipal and Federal governments where he worked in several jurisdictions in Saskatchewan and Alberta. Mel loved music and playing the violin and cheered enthusiastically for the Calgary Flames. The family enjoyed camping together and in later years he and Irene loved traveling with their motor home in their retirement. For most of her life she mowed her own lawn and kept up with her beautiful flower and vegetable gardens. The smell of homemade bread and baking can always be found coming from her home. She enjoyed sewing, knitting and weaving on her loom. One thing we can say about Marguerite, she was a proud and independent woman who was very strong in her faith. GALVIN, Hazel Mary At the White Rapids Manor in Fredericton Junction on Friday August 29th, 2008, Hazel Mary Galvin of Fredericton, passed away at the age of 96. Born in Campbellton, NB she was a daughter of the late Joseph and Bridget (Duguay) Trites and wife of the late Jack G. Galvin. A member of the Roman Catholic Church, she was a Psychiatric Nurse at Massillon State Hospital, Massillon, Ohio. Hazel was a member of the Kinsmen Senior Club of Fredericton, Waggoners Lane, the Craft Club, as well as a Volunteer for many years at the Fredericton Soup Kitchen. Survived by three brothers Wallace, Clifford and Harold; seven grandchildren Gary Guidry (Diane), Jill Atkinson (Jim), Tom Guidry, Brian Guidry (Maureen), Kevin Guidry (Rhonda), Chris Guidry, James Guidry (Lisa); 14 Great Grandchildren; nieces and nephews. Predeceased by a daughter, Joan Guidry (1995); four sisters and nine brothers. Mr. Paul Labossiere August 25, 1926 - August 29, 2008 It is with great sorrow that we announce the peaceful passing, at the age of 82, of Paul Labossiere - beloved husband, father, and grandfather – at St. Boniface Hospital , while surrounded by his loving family. Paul was pre-deceased by his father, Eustache, his mother, Marie-Louise, and his brother, Guy. Left to mourn Paul’s passing and cherish his memory are: his wife of 57 years, Stella ( nee Bouchard) , his son Ron ( Cindy, Jenna, Matthew) , his daughter, Elaine McKenna ( Chuck, Ryan, Kaitlin) , and his son, Dan ( Ginny, Lexie, Keith, Giles) and also his brothers and sisters: Jeanne (late Allan) Refvik, Gerry (Gail), Lil (Roy) Cote, Denis (Monique) his cousins and many nieces and nephews. Paul, the eldest of six children, was born and raised in Ste. Rose du Lac Mb. As a young man, he excelled at sports – baseball and hockey being his particular favorites, and he was recruited by, and played for, some of the best teams, at that time, in the province of Manitoba . He also greatly enjoyed hunting, fishing, boating, and snowmobiling. Paul and Stella – the love of his life- were married on August 11th, 1951, and lived in Winnipeg for the next 57 years. He was a remarkable and devoted family man whose wit and gift for storytelling delighted all those who knew him and his generosity was exceeded only by the quiet and modest manner with which he practiced it. Paul was an excellent and astute businessman and owned many successful businesses during his lifetime, including: DeGagne Motors, Remco Tire, and a Gondola Pizza franchise. Paul especially enjoyed spending time with his good friends and family at the cottage at Gull Lake MB. Caring and thoughtful , wise and fun-loving , Paul was the very model of a decent, hard working man and none who knew him ever had less than the greatest praise for how he conducted himself with dignity at all times throughout his life. Paul’s family would like to extend their gratitude to the excellent and attentive staff on the Palliative Care Unit . True professionals, in every sense of the word, they provided unfailing care and comfort to Paul and his family during the last days he spent with us. April 16, 1947 - August 28, 2008 Passed peacefully away August 28 2008, after a long and brave battle with Multiple Myeloma at the Victoria General hospital in his 61st year. Born in North Berwick, Scotland on April 16 1947 to the late Christopher and Rosemary (Bell) Read. Richard immigrated to Canada in June 1968 shortly after marrying his wife Shirley (Waterman) of Botwood NL. They resided in Gander where Richard was employed as an Avionic Engineer with Eastern Provincial Airlines which brought his family to Nova Scotia in 1984. Richard was also employed with Canadian Airlines and Jazz Airlines until his retirement due to illness. He was a long time executive member of the Atlantic Canada Airline Employees Credit Union.He was predeceased by his parents, brother David and father-in-law William Waterman. Left to mourn are his wife of 41 years, Shirley, daughters Kathy (Jim Jewer) Terrace BC, Jennifer (Natalie Giffen) Elmsdale, son Todd (Lisa) Dartmouth. Alice Eloise Harkness July 23, 1919 - August 31, 2008 age 89 of Lower Sackville and formerly of Amherst passed away on Sunday, August 31, 2008 at the Melville Lodge Care Centre in Halifax, with her loving family by her side. Born in East Mapleton, N.S., she was a daughter of the late Robie and Lila (Smith) Smith. In her younger years, Alice worked at Canada Car in Amherst and the Highland View Hospital, in the Domestic Department. In her later years she worked at Kay's Fabrics on Spring Street. Alice was an avid homemaker and adored her family both immediate and extended. She was a faithful and active member of the Trinity St. Stephen's United Church, Amherst, where she was a member of the United Church Women and honored with a life membership. She will be sadly missed and forever in our hearts. Alice is survived by her daughter, Janice (John) Balcom of Lower Sackville; two grandsons, John of Toronto, ON and Jason of Lower Sackville; sisters, Georgina "Ginger" (Deane) Maston and Audrey O'Leary both of Amherst; brothers, Worden Smith of Yuma, Arizona, Hedley (Shirley) Smith of Middle Sackville and Shirley (Bernice) Smith of Amherst; many nieces and nephews.
