THERIAULT, Jean Marie - Jean Marie, of Thedford died at L.H.S.C. on Wednesday, August 6, 2008 at the age of 68. Beloved companion of Colleen Wagner. Dear father of Joel, London and Philip, Thedford. Grandfather of Savannah. Dear son of Lucienne and the late Lionel Theriault, Sarnia. BOURDON, Florence May (Tomlinson) - A wonderful wife, mother and friend unexpectedly passed away at the Kingston General Hospital in her 68th year, surrounded by her family on Wednesday, August 6, 2008. DEKORT, Anna (nee van Doremalen) November 15, 1915 - August 5, 2008 Mrs. Anna Dekort (nee van Doremalen) passed away on August 5, 2008 at the wonderful age of 92. Anna was born November 15, 1915 in Oirschot, Netherlands. She immigrated to Canada in 1949 with her husband Bill of forty-four years. Together they raised eight children: Bill (Leila), Bert (Gail), Cathy (Garry), Henry (Donna), Marianne (Frank), Danny (Lesley), Sylvia (Kevin), and Johann (Ross), and enjoyed relationships with twenty grandchildren: Nathan, Danielle, Angela, Tricia, Jennifer (Mark), Laurie (Todd), Sherry (Brad), Michael (Stacey), Matthew, Phillip (Shawna), Tyler (Jennifer), Kali, Joshua, Tricia (Jay), Shawna, Chad, Jeremy (Kyre), Ryan (Kate), Ian and Scott. Anna also lived to see the birth of eight great-grandchildren: Jonah, Karly, Kayla, Rachel, Victoria, Quintan, Oaklee and Avery. She also has two remaining sisters, Lies and Corry. Anna was predeceased by her husband Bill, two grandchildren, two brothers and two sisters. We would like to thank the staff of the Newport Harbour Care Centre for their tender care of our mother. AVIS DE DÉCÈS LOUIS J. DUGAS Louis Dugas est décédé à Ottawa à l'hôpital Civic le 6 août 2008. Il avait 86 ans. Né le 11 décembre 1921 à l'Epiphanie au Québec, Louis a obtenu son diplôme d'ingénieur civil de l'École Polytechnique à Montréal. Durant une carrière échelonnée sur quarante ans, il a oeuvré dans des domaines très divers, du Ministère de la Voirie du Québec, en passant par Shell Oil, la Commission des écoles catholiques de Montréal, Parcs Canada et enfin la Coopérative des maisons de la municipalité d'Ottawa. C'est à Parcs Canada qu'il a réuni sa passion pour l'histoire du Canada à ses connaissances techniques pour participer à la préservation de sites historiques à travers le pays, mais particulièrement à la forteresse de Louisbourg. À sa retraite en 1967, il a complété une maîtrise en histoire à l'Université d'Ottawa, puis il s'est dédié à la généalogie des Dugas. Enfin, il s'est tourné vers l'écriture pour publier ses mémoires, et tout récemment, il a complété un roman historique basé en Acadie, la patrie de ses ancêtres. Lucienne Gagnon, son épouse depuis 56 ans; ses enfants: Louise, Danielle (et Ira), Louis, Luc (et Carolyn); ses petits-enfants: Simon, Claudine, Bruno, Jacqueline, Miriam, et sa soeur Yvette sont unis dans leur amour pour Louis. After retiring, he completed a Masters in History at the University of Ottawa, researched his family's genealogy, and later dedicated his energies to writing. Before his illness, he had just completed a historical novel based in Acadia, the land of his ancestors. His wife of 56 years Lucienne (nee Gagnon), his children Louise, Danielle (Ira), Louis, Luc (Carolyn), and his grandchildren Simon, Claudine, Bruno, Jacqueline, and Miriam, and his sister Yvette cherish his memory. RISLER, William (Bill) Francis November 15, 1922 - August 5, 2008 William (Bill) Francis Risler, beloved husband of Del of Crossfield, AB, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving family on Tuesday, August 5, 2008 at the age of 85 years. Bill was born in Lethbridge, AB on November 15, 1922. Bill was raised by his parents in Lethbridge, but spent every possible moment he could at his maternal grandparents' farm in Spring Point, AB in the Porcupine Hills. This is where he cultivated his life-long love for horses and the farming way of life. Bill had been employed by the C.P.R. for forty-six years at the time of his retirement in 1982. He began by delivering telegraphs on his bike at the age of fourteen, became a wireless operator, and then took schooling to become a radio technician. Bill met Geraldine Laura (Dene) Miller while stationed at the Gaspe Peninsula, QC with the Air Force during WWII. They were married October 4, 1944, and made their home in Lethbridge, at the conclusion of the war, after having lived briefly in Halifax, NS. Bill and Dene and family resided in Lethbridge until June 1965 when Bill's job transfer took the family to Calgary. It had always been Bill and Dene's dream to own a small farm, and they realized this dream when they purchased the quarter section one mile east of Crossfield in October 1971. Bill absolutely reveled in his life on the Hobby farm and also embraced the community he loved through his involvement with the Elks, the Masonic Lodge, the Legion, the Crossfield Recreation Board, the Crossfield Rodeo Committee, coaching minor hockey, canvassing for the Red Cross, etc. He deeply treasured the wonderful friendships made through his community involvement. Bill's love of horses led him to trail-riding adventures in the Turner Valley area, and he was out riding in the mountains every chance he got. Nothing gave him greater pleasure than to share this passion for trail-riding with his grandchildren and he often had a grandchild (or two or three) out camping and riding, too. He had so many wonderful memories of time spent with the "trail-riding gang" - lots of escapades, and laughter that continued well into his eighties! Bill married Del Huchala on February 3, 2006, having known each other all their lives. Above all else, Bill was a family man who enjoyed a very close relationship with all his children and stepchildren, their spouses and his grandchildren. He measured "wealth" by his relationships with family and friends, and by this standard considered himself a wealthy man, who has had what he described as a "fun life". Bill leaves to mourn, his loving wife, Del; four children, Jim (Linda), Maureen (Terry), Rick (Jennifer), Linda (Tony); daughter-in-law, Kim; stepchildren, Pat, Michelle (Tom), Jim (Kelly), Doug (Anita); grandchildren, Brad (Patty), Greg (Alesia), Bill (Carol-Anne), Mike (Heather), Stacey (Greg), Jill (Kris), Dannee (Adam), A.J., Jayden, Chelsea, Brittany, Laurissa, Mattison, Anthony, Eden and step-grandchildren; great-grandchildren, Kara, Shane, Sydney, Camille, Garrett, Nathan, Julia, Christopher, Ian, Taylor, Jordan, Kendalin, Colten and Rebecca. He was predeceased by his wife of fifty-eight years, Dene; youngest child, Frank; parents, Ernie and Elsie Risler; in-laws, Gerald and Marion Miller; sister, Gladys; brother, Buzz; great-grandson, Nicholas and stepson, Robert. Survived by daughters Linda Robertson (Ron Zippel) of Hanover, Tracy Robertson of Clinton, sons Robert Robertson of Hanover and Allan Robertson of Cambridge, grandchildren Justin, Brandon, Claude, Nathan and Natasha. Also survived by a brother, James Kirby of Palmerston, and a sister, Florence Kirby of Cambridge. Predeceased by a son, Donald James Robertson, and a sister, Harriett Kirby. UNDERHILL GERALD EDWARD " JERRY" - The death of Jerry Underhill of Veteran's Court occurred at the Saint John Regional Hospital on Thursday August 7, 2008. Jerry was born in Newcastle and spent the greater part of his life in Saint John. He was a son of Carl and Eileen (Tucker) Underhill. CHHINA, Harbans Singh October 1, 1924 - August 3, 2008 At the age of 83, Harbans Singh Chhina passed away peacefully with his family at his side. He will be dearly missed by his beloved wife of fifty-three years, Paminder Kaur. Harbans Singh had many core values, including high moral principles and a deep regard for education. He achieved a double Bachelor of Arts and a Masters in Political Science at the University of Punjab. In 1970, Harbans Singh immigrated to Canada to provide his children with better opportunities. He will be missed by his daughter Harbinder (Yadvinder) and sons Rajbir (Sippy) and Harbir (Monica). His grandchildren, Amandeep, Harmeet, Neesha and Nihal will miss their loving, insightful and always encouraging grandfather. MOIR, Ellen Janet (nee Clow) January 2, 1956 - August 3, 2008 Ellen Janet Moir, beloved wife of Rory and loving mother of Andrew and Alex, passed away on Sunday, August 3, 2008 at the age of 52 years. Except for five of her early years, Ellen lived in Calgary and was educated through the CBE and the U of C. Subsequently she truly enjoyed her years working as a geologist at Canadian Hunter. This was followed by even greater rewards in the years that she spent raising her sons and being with her family. She was involved in parent councils at the elementary and junior high levels; most recently she took great satisfaction from chairing the F.E. Osborne Parent Council. Ellen was a very active person who loved to spend time running, swimming, golfing, hiking, skiing and taking long walks through the Bow River Valley. She was enriched by her involvement in Toastmasters and her book club. Ellen's kind spirit, gentle nature and ever ready sense of humour touched us all. She will be missed more than can be expressed. A special place in her heart was the family cabin at Sylvan Lake, where she spent many happy times with her family and friends. Besides her loving husband Rory and her sons Andrew and Alex, Ellen is survived by her sisters Judy (Ric) Noble and their daughters Melanie and Hollis; Susan (Bob) Hollinshead and their children Lawrence (Maureen), Katie and Sara; and her father-in-law and mother-in-law, Doug and Gill Moir, of Aberdeen, Scotland. Ellen was predeceased by her parents Bill and Marg Clow. Gertrude Hardy MacEacheron Gertrude Hardy MacEacheron, 85, of Kenneth E. Spencer Home and formerly of Boundary Creek passed away Wednesday August 6, 2008 at the Moncton Hospital. Born in Moncton she was the daughter of the late James & Mary (Mitton) MacCallum. Gertrude attended Second North River Baptist Church and was a former member & choir member of St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church. She was a life member of both WMS and Boundary Creek Women's Institute. Survived by children, James (Jim) and his wife, Luella of Miramichi, John (Jack) and his wife, Jillian of Berry Mills, Anne of Boundary Creek; beloved grandchildren, Todd (Tisha), Alison, Scott, Drew and Ian; great grandson, Hunter Royce MacEacheron; brother, Donald (Connie) of Moncton; one niece and several nephews. GRETSINGER, Donelda (nee Martinson) - Formerly of Long Beach, Welland and Port Colborne passed away peacefully in her sleep at Maple Village for Seniors in London, Ont. on Wednesday, Aug. 6 in her 88th year. Known as “Dimp“ for her radiant dimpled smile and love of life, she was the beloved wife of the late Verne Gretsinger for 51 wonderful years. She is survived by her son, Douglas Gretsinger of Port Alberni, B.C.; daughter Deborah Gretsinger of London; and dear sister Faye Butler of Windsor, Ont. Lovingly remembered by her son-in-law, Peter Leichnitz; granddaughters Jordan Leichnitz of Ottawa, Emily (Gretsinger) Graham of Tofino, B.C. and Melissa (Gretsinger) Gerow of Balfour, B.C.; great-grandchildren Elijah of Tofino and Ruby of Balfour. Sister of the late Murray Martinson, she is also survived by sisters-in- law Norma Spencer of Kitchener, Marion Empey of Fonthill and Noreen Martinson of Renfrew; and brother-in-law Darcy Spencer of Kitchener. Also will be missed by Carolyn Gretsinger and her many nieces and nephews and their families. Predeceased by brothers-in-law Alf Gretsinger of Fonthill and Robert (Bob) Butler of Windsor. Family and friends are invited to a celebration of Donelda's life on Wednesday, Aug. 13 at 1:30 p.m. at the Port Colborne Central United Church. MCGLINCHEY, GLENN ARTHUR The passing of Glenn Arthur McGlinchey, husband of Susan (Stephens) McGlinchey, of Fredericton, occurred on August 6, 2008 at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Regional Hospital. Born on July 17, 1949 in St. Stephen, he was a son of Bernice (McLaughlin) McGlinchey and the late Byron McGlinchey. Glenn was a truck driver. He attended Life Tabernacle, Fredericton. Besides his wife and mother, he is survived by daughters, Laurinda (Babak) Ghorbani and Lana McGlinchey; son, Jeremy (Rebeka) McGlinchey; sisters, Judy (Donnie) and Sheila; brothers, Darrell, Vincent (Faye), Lloyd (Lorraine), Phillip, Jeffery and Rodney; parents-in-law, Robert and Marian Stephens; sisters-in-law, Cheryl (Ambrose) and Wanda (JP).
