SMITH (Nee McGuire, Tongue), Mary - In loving memory of Mary Theresa Smith, 85 yrs, who passed away peacefully at Extendicare Falconbridge with her family by her side. Mary is predeceased by John Joseph McGuire (Mick) (1969) and Charles Alfred Smith (Charlie) (2006). Loving mother of Patrick (wife Linda), Karen (husband Jacques Crepeau), and Mike (predeceased) (wife Jenny). Special step mother to Darlene Smith Lapierre and Daniel Smith (Diane). Proud grandmother to Doug (wife Laurie), Greg (wife Poonam), Colin (wife Lyndsay), Jason and Tess. Great grandmother to Alyssa. Mary was the daughter of Walter and Theresa Tongue (predeceased) and sister to Orma McNaughton (predeceased) and Aunt to many nieces and nephews. Born in North Bay on February 2, 1923, she went on to marry John (Mick) in 1948 and moved to Copper Cliff, Ontario where she raised her children. After Mick's passing she married Charlie in 1973 and they enjoyed 33 years together spending many summers at the cottage on Long Lake and winters in Florida. Mary enjoyed a variety of successful careers. She was a registered nurse for 18 years at various hospitals including Copper Cliff, North Bay St. Joseph's and all 4 Sudbury Sites. She then went on to become a social worker with the Sudbury Children's Aid Society for 4 years. She then worked at Canada Manpower as a counselor until 1982 when she retired after 14 years of service. In her younger years, Mary was an avid down hill skier, both instructing and competing at the national level. At Mary's request there will be no public visitation or service. A private family ceremony will be held to honour her life. We are so grateful to the staff at Extendicare Falconbridge for everything they did to make our Mother's last YEARS comfortable and enjoyable. Horace Everett Cail 1930 - 2008 The death of Horace Everett Cail, 78 years, husband of Shirley (Landry) Cail, occurred at The Moncton Hospital on Thursday August 7th, 2008. Born in Pine Ridge, Kent County on June 9, 1930, he was the son of the late Wilbur and Ethel (Flanagan) Cail. Horace had worked as an auto and diesel mechanic for many years in several locations including the US Air Force base in Labrador, Ottawa, Charlottetown and Moncton. He was a member of the Irish Canadian Cultural Association, the Elmwood North Community Association and the Federal Superannuates National Association. He had a love of music. His natural ear for music allowed him to play any musical instrument that crossed his path. Many of his leisure hours were spent playing his guitar, harmonica, auto-harp, organ, piano and accordion while singing his favourite songs. Horace is survived by his wife, Shirley (Landry) Cail; three daughters, Darlene (Philip) Macaulay of Bedford, NS; Melodie (Paul) Tomcik of Halifax, NS and Leanne Cail of Charlottetown, PEI; two grandchildren, Logan and Bryson; and two sisters, Betty Spencer of Moncton and Jean (Ivan) Beers of Irishtown; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his four brothers, Melvin, Arnold, Robert and Walter; and six sisters, Ruth Cail, Dorothy Hannah, Annie Robinson, Elverna Fahey, Laura Ward and Margaret Killam. Evelyn Cormier Evelyn Cormier, 80, wife of the late Aldor Cormier, of Moncton passed away Thursday, August 7, 2008 at The Moncton Hospital. Born in Irishtown, she was the daughter of the late Roy and Georgina (Horseman) Anketell. She was a member of St. Augustine's welcoming committee and the C.W.L. Evelyn also enjoyed flowers, quilting, and had an open door at her home for all who visited. She will be sadly missed by her four loving children: Janet Robichaud (Armand), Ann Lanigan (Mark), Donald (Sharon), and Brian (Cathy); her brothers and sisters: Beulah Parker (Lewis), Eileen Dysart (Joseph), Jenny Haney (Jack), Roderick (Marion), and Owen (Joan); 10 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and a daughter-in-law, Karen. THOMAS, Laura Alice (Nee Boreham) Born on August 31, 1901, deceased on August 6, 2008, at her residence, Portland, a remarkable centenarian who excelled in business, sports and the arts. Laura was an active sportswoman for most of her life. She enjoyed a competitive spirit as a golfer, skier, curler and rider. As a young widow with a small child she began her own beauty and retail business in Ottawa. This included her line of Laura Thomas Cosmetics. She was also instrumental in introducing the Revlon and Breck names to the Canadian market. Through all these activities, she became a role model for young women of her generation. Laura was an early member of the Zonta Club of Ottawa. In her later years, painting became her focus along with winning at all competitive board games. Her fascination with literature ensured that there were always three books on her reading table at one time. Laura was the daughter of John and Laura Boreham. She is predeceased by her parents, her husband Christopher Trahearn Thomas, her sister Gladys, her son Joseph and granddaughter, Laura. She is survived by her daughter, Shirley, Canadas first female Olympic rider, of Box Arrow Farm in Portland, Ontario, three grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. A Private Interment Service has taken place as was her wish. HARRIS, Ruth (nee Bremner) October 22, 1922 - August 6, 2008 It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Mrs. Ruth Harris, known to all as "Grandma" and "Nana", beloved wife of the late Bud Harris, on August 6, 2008 at the age of 85 years after a courageous battle. Ruth Harris was born in Spirit River, Alberta and raised at the Salvation Army Children's Home. She proudly served in the Canadian Women's Army Corps overseas during WWII. Ruth married her husband Bud and raised her children. She is survived by her children: Ronnie (Judy), Donnie (Susan), Gene, Doug, and special angels Dee and Sprout, also brothers Charles and Tim Bremner. She dedicated her life to raising her children and seven grandchildren. Her ten great-grandchildren were the joy of her life. She was predeceased by her husband Alfred (Bud); children, Jerry, Bernice, Judy, Edie, two sisters and two brothers. Grandma will be remembered for her courage and unconditional love. She is a true legend and hero, and will be greatly missed. BRUCE, William (Bill) Bill passed away on Sunday, August 3, 2008 at St. Mary's Hospital in Camrose at the age of 76 years. Bill was born on July 1, 1932 in St. Andrews, Scotland and immigrated to Canada in 1949. He married Euphemia (Fay) in 1961 who predeceased him in 2005. BULLOCK, Patricia L. - Peacefully after a valiant battle with cancer, at the Brantford General Hospital on Wednesday August 6, 2008, at the age of 81. Loving wife of the late Harry Bullock (2005). Beloved mother of Frank (Angie), Heather (Dave), Randy and Cindy. Loved grandmother of Jason (Liana), Candice (Rod), Kevin and Amber and great-grandmother of Jacen. Patricia is survived by her sisters Peggy Young (Cliff), Gloria (George) Stone. She is predeceased by her sister Doris McDonald (Rod). She will be fondly remembered by her niece Darlene Gedney. Patricia was very proud of her time spent working at Massey-Ferguson during the Second World War. She also enjoyed 15 years as a mail clerk with the Brantford Post Office. CARSON, MARGARET MARY - It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden death of Margaret (Peggy) Carson, age 84, at the Rouge Valley Health System in Ajax, Ontario on July 31, 2008. Margaret was a loving and proud mother and grandmother. Margaret was born December 14, 1923 in Enniscorthy, Eire and is survived by 5 children; Kimberley, husband Jerzy of Pickering, ON; Brendan, wife Nancy of Saint John; Christine Ali, husband Nazim of Hampton; Kevin, wife Debbie of Saint John and Breda Parlee of Trenton, ON.; eight Grandchildren, Meagan, Stephanie, Claire, Chloe, Brandon, Justin , Mark, and Bryan; surviving siblings, Sister Baptist (Breda), Elsie Fingleton, Brendan Kearney all of England and Thomas Kearney of Saint John. Many nieces, nephews and cousins. Funeral services and cremation took place in Ajax, ON. A reception hosted by the family will be held Tuesday, August 12 from 6 to 10 pm at the Police Union Club located at 8 Charlotte St, Saint John. Internment will take place at 9am, Wednesday, August 13, at Fernhill Cemetary. Margaret will be laid to rest with son David who passed away October 20, 1980. WICHERT, Carole June (nee Dewald) June 24, 1945 - August 4, 2008 Carole Wichert, beloved wife of Art Wichert, passed away suddenly on Monday, August 4, 2008 at the age of 63 years. She will also be greatly missed by her mother Mae Dewald; and brother Barry Dewald of Moose Jaw; sons, Ryan Carthy and Jean Paul Carthy; daughter-in-law Sheri and grandson Keigan Carthy; as well as stepdaughter Karen Sanders of Calgary; and stepson Ken Wichert and his wife Wonda of Switzerland. She was predeceased by her father Paul and brother Bill. Carole was born in Moose Jaw, SK, where she received her schooling. Carole loved working with people and was soon drawn into the direct sales business. After working for several direct sales companies she started her own company, Linens & Lace. The company grew rapidly and expanded across Canada and into the US. She loved and excelled at motivating her sales people. When the business environment changed Carole closed the business. She now found time to devote her love and attention to her grandson Keigan who she adored. But her second love "interior decorating" was never far away. Her last unfinished project was decorating a restaurant in Colombia.
