LOUIS, Fong Sue It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Fong Sue Louis on Sunday, August 3, 2008. Fong was born in China on December 12, 1930 and immigrated to Canada 1952, ready for a new adventure in a new culture. On her own she quickly learned to speak and write English, as well as raise three children, all while working long hours at the family business, the Corner Cafe. In her latter working days at the Imperial and Cecil hotels, she was known to be able to carry more draft on her tray than most serving staff twice her size. She had many friends both in the Chinese and English community and earned the admiration and respect of everyone she met because of her unselfishness, generosity and kindness. Besides caring for and giving to those she loved, her mandate in life was to cook for the entire world, whether they be family, friends, complete strangers or even furry creatures. She had few matches with a wok and ladle in her hands. When her husband Chow passed away, she was fortunate enough to meet Jim Schwab, who became her life partner and travel mate with numerous trips to locations such as Hawaii, Mexico and one of her favourites, Whitefish, Montana. It is rumoured owners of "all you can eat buffets" at these destinations rolled their eyes when Jim and Fong entered. At age fifty she discovered golf and played for the next twenty plus years, many times twenty-seven holes, and always on foot. She will be missed beyond words by her son Soon and his wife Marie, son Archie, daughter Wanda, the loves of her life, grandsons Timothy and Justin, and her faithful companion Jim. Her extended family of stepson Tom Louis, his wife May; grandchildren Michael, Nora, Dorothy, Norman; great-grandchildren, Benton, Sarah, Matthew, Roy and Angela plus Dianna Ducs, the Gaults, Gary, Wendy, Kelsey, Courtney, McKenzie and Nicholas will all miss her very much. Fong was predeceased by her sister Fong Pui and brother Cheo Siu Eng. All are welcome to attend a Service on Friday, August 8, at 10:00 a.m. at Foster's Garden Chapel at 3220 - 4 Street N.W., Interment to follow at Queen's Park Cemetery with a reception afterwards at Foster's. Joe Gagne The death of Joe Gagne of Belledune occurred at the Campbellton Regional Hospital, Wednesday, July 23, 2008 at the age of 79. Born in Benjamin, he was the son of the late Myles Gagne & the late Leona (Allard). He is survived by his wife, Corrine (Cormier); children, Raymond (Cynthia) of Hamilton, ON, Deborah Gagne of Belledune, Bryan of St.John, Charlaine Guitar, Ont., Glenda Gagne (Peter) of Jacquet River, Rachelle Gagne of St.John; stepson, Joseph Craig Lavigne of Atholville; 12 grandchildren; and sisters, Rose Marie Belliveau & Doreen LaPointe. GRIFFITHS, Frederick Harold 1918 - 2008 - Harold passed away peacefully on Saturday, August 2, 2008, in his 91st year in the St. Catharines General Hospital. Dearly beloved husband of Evelyn, his wife of 64 years, and father of Wynne (George) Nicholson - St. Catharines; Robert (Dawn) - St. John's, NL; formerly Lindsay; Owen (Linda) - Ottawa; and Rodger (Barb) - Sarnia. Much loved grandfather of Scott, Ty (Laura), Torrey, Braden (Charlotte), James, Adam, Brianne (Jeff), and Garth, and of great nephew, Tom. Predeceased by parents Fred and Olive, sisters Dorothy Lawson and Irene Griffiths, and grandson Joshua. Harold was born in Sarnia, graduated from Queen's University, Kingston (BSc Eng - 1941; MSc Eng - 1942) and was a proud member of the Queen's Grant Hall Society and the Chemical Institute of Canada (MCIC). He spent all his working life at Imperial Oil in Sarnia, Edmonton and Toronto as Chief Chemist and Human Resources Specialist. In 2001, he and Evelyn moved to Vineland. The family would like to thank his Heritage Village friends for their help and support, especially in Harold's latter years. Harold was a devoted family man, never happier than hearing about, and enjoying the company of, his children and grandchildren. LESCHUK, Sharyn Elaine (nee Kellberg) - 1944-2008 - It is with great sadness we announce the passing of our wife, mother and grandmother, Sharyn Elaine Leschuk, peacefully, at K-W Health Centre of Grand River Hospital, with her family by her side, on Friday, August 1, 2008, at the age of 63. She will be sadly missed by her loving and committed husband of 44 years, Stan Leschuk. Loving mother to Michael, Melanie and Mitchell, sister to Valerie Kellberg, and a loving Nana to Austin and Arden Leschuk, Julian and Isabella D'Aloia, and Melania Leschuk. Sharyn lived for many years with Wegener's Granulomatosis, a severe disease that affected many parts of her body. She fought the disease for many years, with such determination and courage. We are all so proud of the strength and accomplishments Sharyn had throughout her life. She was born in Dryden, Ontario on October 14, 1944, and lived with her husband Stan for over 50 years in Ear Falls, Ontario. Together, they ran several businesses over the years, including two Home Hardware stores, one in Ear Falls and one in Red Lake. Sharyn was an incredible business person and expected the best out of everyone. She was an avid fisherman, blueberry picker and loved the outdoors. She was a loving wife, mother and sister who always put her family first. The family will receive friends at the ERB & GOOD FAMILY FUNERAL HOME, 171 King Street South in Waterloo, on Tuesday, August 5, 2008 from 12 noon until 12:45. The funeral service will follow in the funeral home chapel at 1 p.m. with a reception to follow. Rev. Jack Paleczny of Trinity United Church, Kitchener, will be officiating. Interment will take place at the Ear Falls Cemetery at a later date. LANCELOT, Anthony (Tony)- Passed away peacefully at the GNGH on August 4 in his 94 year. Son of the late Vincent and Rose Lancelot. Né à North Bay, Ontario, il fit ses études au Collège Sacré-Coeur de Sudbury et entra chez les Jésuites en 1935. Ordonné prêtre en 1947, il fut promoteur de l'Apostolat de la prière à Montréal et à Québec durant de nombreuses années, exerça son ministère dans la Beauce (73-86), et fut aumônier chez les Soeurs du Bon Pasteur de Québec (87-95). Outre ses confrères jésuites, il laisse dans le deuil des cousins et cousines, neveux et nièces, parents et amis. RAE, Evelyn Elva (nee Lowe) November 14, 1919 - August 1, 2008 Evelyn Elva Rae of Calgary passed away on August 1, 2008 at the age of 88 years. Evelyn was born on November 14, 1919 in Langenburg, Saskatchewan and grew up in the Saltcoats district. Evelyn made the move to Calgary so that she could enjoy the Stampede and be near the mountains. She met and married James Rae a native Calgarian on December 7, 1949. Evelyn worked for Canada Post in both the Eatons and Bay stores until retiring to Sorrento, BC on the Shuswap Lake. Evelyn always enjoyed working in the garden, she especially loved to grow flowers. She was also actively involved in her community and sang with the OAPO Choir (Old Age Pension Organization) in Sorrento. Evelyn loved summertime visits from her children, most of all to be with her grandchildren. Evelyn is survived by her children, Ken (Judy), Gordon, Keith and Mavis (Derek Ross); grandchildren, Kin (T.K), Kyle and Jason, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband James. MCARTHUR, ROBERT "BOB" WILLIAM It is with great sadness that the family announces the passing of Bob McArthur of Oromocto, NB on August 1st, 2008. Born in Fredericton, NB he was the son of the late John and Grace McArthur and husband of the late Doris R. (Cleghorn) McArthur. Bob touched a lot of people's lives and hearts. He was a gentle soul with a big heart who always enjoyed entertaining folks with his gift of music, playing guitar and singing for all of his family and friends. McMACKIN, MICHAEL GEORGE - The saddening news of Michael McMackin's death came on August 4th, 2008, after a year of battling leukemia. He was born on February 18, 1958 in Newcastle, NB and graduated from Kennebecasis Valley High School in 1976. Employed by the Bank of Nova Scotia, for three years, he joined CNR in 1979 and continued with them until his death. He is survived by his wife Holly (nee Payne); his parents, Chester and Esther McMackin, Hampton, NB and a sister, Anne MacIsaac (Ian), Halifax. He is father to three daughters, Racare Danaher (Peter), Sarah Price (Shane), and Jessica McMackin, Saint John, NB. He has two granddaughters, Sylvia and Sophia Price. His PEI in-laws, Betty and Evans Payne, Carl (Michelle), Eric (Seanna), Neil (Janet) and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his first wife Carolyn. A member of Vineyard Church, Michael was a faithful believer in God and practiced the principles of Christianity all his life. A self made musician, he was very talented in Drumming, Piano, Organ and Guitar playing. With a great sense of humour, he was always a source of entertainment among his multitude of friends, who represented all facets of life. Resting at Reid's Funeral Home (832-5541), 1063 Main Street, Hampton with visitation Tuesday 7-9pm and Wednesday 2-4pm and 7-9pm. McMURRAN, David John It is with sadness that we announce the peaceful death of David McMurran, 54, after a courageous battle with cancer on Saturday, July 26, 2008 at St Paul's Hospital in Vancouver, BC, a city he loved so well. He died holding the hands of his sisters, Fiona McMurran of Welland, ON and Barbara Johns of Ottawa, ON and his dear friend Anne Healy. David is also survived by his father, John (Mac) McMurran of Ottawa. His mother Stella McMurran predeceased him. He leaves behind his Aunts Barbara Hurt of Ottawa and Winifred Gibson-Smith of Haslemere, England. The family wishes to thank the wonderful staff of the Palliative Care Centre at St. Paul's Hospital, in particular, Catharine, and Dr. Nicki Apostle, for their kindness, consideration, loving care and for easing David's journey. Special thanks to Tito Medina and all of David's friends in Ottawa who helped him cope with the challenges of his illness while in Ottawa. David worked tirelessly for social justice and promoted peace and harmony through his love of world music in both Vancouver and Ottawa. He will be remembered for always fighting the good fight. Mary was born October 3, 1906 in Saint John, a daughter of the late Mary and Joseph Perry. She had been employed at Red Rose Tea and 29 years at St. Joseph's Hospital. Mary is a member of St. Joseph's Hospital Auxillary, CWL, Right To Life. She is survived by a sister Irene McGraw (Joe-previously deceased) and three daughters; Ann Graham, Dawn Lang (Don-previously deceased), Barbara Bennett (Frank); eleven grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. Besides her parents and husband, Mary was predeceased by two brothers George and Cecil Perry; three sisters Agnes Knudson, Teresa Britney and Rachael Brown; two daughters Marie (Bob) Holmes and Jude McHarg and grand daughter Susan Burns. RILEY, Louis "Lou" 2008-08-05 Louis "Lou" Riley, age 59 years, passed away suddenly on Saturday, August 2, 2008 at his place of work. He was born on November 30, 1948 in Bradford, Yorkshire, England. Louis immigrated with his parents and sister to Canada in 1952. At 19 years of age Lou met and married the love of his life, Connie Heerema. Together they raised their pride and joy, their three children. His other loves were his animals, history (emphasis on WWII), fast cars and collecting guitars. He had a great passion for guitar playing and music, which continued well beyond his high school years with Spotlight on Selkirk and he was 1/3 of The Parklane Trio. Lou received honourable mention with his sister Dawn in the Du Maurier Search for Stars. He had a passion for football, #71 with the Selkirk Rams and later coached high school football. Louis had a devout and unconditional love for family and friends. He had endless compassion and was always there to lend a helping hand. His infectious laugh, loving "bear hugs" and genuine spirit will be greatly missed. Louis is survived and always loved by his beloved wife Connie and three wonderful children Lee (Sarah), Neil and Lauren. He will also be missed by his beautiful granddaughter Aliyah Riley. Loving son of Sheila and the late Tom Riley (1992). Always remembered and survived by sisters Dawn Leishman, Kim Evans (Peter) and brother Mark (Rochelle). Loved by mother-in-law Elly Heerema and her partner Roelof Schuitima. Greatly missed by sisters-in-law Wilma (Rick) and Annette (Dana) and brothers-in-law Henry (Karen) and Peter (Daniela). Loving mother of Heather Simpson (Mark Ashmore), of Lanark, Ontario, Judith Poole (Bill) of Scot's Bay, N.S., Robert Simpson (Dolly) of Virginia, and Jock Simpson (Edith LeBlanc) of New Brunswick. Cherished mother-in-law of Marg Simpson of Metcalfe, Ontario. SCHUMACKER, Charles “Chuck“ - Peacefully, on Saturday, August 2nd, 2008 at the St. Catharines General Hospital in his 64th year. Predeceased by his father Lt. Col. Charles (1991) and survived by his mother Naomi of Getzville, N.Y. Loved father of Michael (Angele) Schumacker. Dear grandfather of Summer. Long time companion of Garry Houghton. Survived by his brother Neil (Maryann) Schumacker of Florida. Chuck will be sadly missed by Christel and her family in Germany. He will also be missed by many cousins throughout the U.S.A.
