SPRY, Robert Allan “Bob“ - Peacefully with his family and friends by his side at the Northumberland Hills Hospital in Cobourg on Friday, August 1st, 2008, Bob Spry at 59 years of age. Loving and beloved husband of Jackie Spry (nee Reyns). Cherished and supportive father of Katrina and Kari. Son of the late Robert and Tabitha Spry. Dearly loved brother of Bertha (the late Bill), Murray (Jean), Norman (Carol), Cliff (Bonnie), Shirley (the late Walter) and predeceased by brothers Walter and Gordon. STRASKO, Betty 2008-08-05 STRASKO It is with great sadness the family of Betty Strasko announce her passing on August 5th, 2008. Born January 29, 1910 in Prague, Czech Republic, she immigrated to Canada at age 16 with her father. Her mother and brother followed a year later. They settled in Winnipeg where she met and married Paul Strasko. They later moved to Thunder Bay where she fulfilled a dream to become a nurse (RPN) and help others. She worked at the LPH and later Dawson Court from its opening. In 1961 the family moved to Florida where she continued to work as an RPN until her retirement. Her daughter and family decided to return to Thunder Bay, her son and family were already living there, Paul and Betty moved also to be near their grandchildren. They spent many summers camping at Kakabeka, Quetico, and Dog Lake with the grandkids, leaving them many wonderful memories. Betty‘s hobbies were knitting, reading and spending time with the family and her pets. She loved all animals. Left to cherish her memory are her son Paul Strasko (Priscilla) their children, Paul Strasko (Lisa) and Susan Frost (Rob) and their families. Daughter Ilona Osborne (Ellis) their children, Lisa Osborne (Mike), Robin Zaporzan (Bob), Tami Gabriele (Nando) and their families. She was predeceased by her loving husband Paul, her parents Franta and Bozena Svoboda, and her brother Eric and sister-in-law Joyce. Cremation has taken place. A gathering of friends and family to celebrate the life of Betty Strasko will be held at the Davinci Centre, 340 Waterloo St., Thursday, August 7th, 2008 from 1 to 3 pm in the afternoon. WATKIN, DAWN ANITA WATKIN - (October 23, 1961 - August 1, 2008) It is with deep sorrow that the family announces the sudden passing of Dawn Watkin of Pocologan at Saint John Regional Hospital, in her 46th year. Precious daughter of Brian and Joan (Young) Watkin. Beloved sister of Lynne (nee Watkin) and Kevin Fries. Cherished Auntie of Amanda (Vincent) and Sasha (Jason), and great-nephew Rowan. She will be sadly missed by her many cousins, aunts, and uncles in both Ontario and England, and many friends, colleagues, and students who loved her dearly. Dawn will be forever remembered for her kind and generous heart who gave selflessly to help others. Her playful spirit always brought joy and laughter to all who knew her. Dawn possessed a genuine love of nature and respect for all living things. A resource teacher at Fundy High School in St. George, NB, she graduated from the University of Guelph in 1993, and obtained her teaching degree in Canterbury, England. Dawn later completed her Masters Degree in Counseling at the University of New Brunswick. A special thank you to the staff of Saint John Regional Hospital for their care and compassion, and sincere appreciation to Greg Chambers and countless other friends and teachers who have showed their support during this difficult time. Devoted daughter of the late Ila and Beulah Michener. Aunt Jo will be sadly missed by her many treasured nieces, nephews and cousins. She will be fondly remembered by her many friends, as well as her dear nursing roommates and colleagues from Hamilton General Hospital. Joanne took great pride in her family's accomplishments. Her biggest passion, though, was always her grandchildren. She loved them all fiercely and proudly and devoted countless hours to following their many endeavours, attending games and concerts, and bragging about their achievements. Those who have known her since her youngest grandson's birth will never forget her delight in sharing Cole's many outrageous escapades. Jo would want to be remembered most as the wonderful Nana she was, for that is her legacy to all of us. The family will be forever grateful to the many friends and relatives who have so lovingly and selflessly enriched Jo's life over the years. We would also like to thank the staffs of LRCC, LHSC, CACC and VON for their kind and compassionate care.
