June was born and raised in Calgary and has resided there most of her life. BARONE, Louis - (1922 - 2008) - It is with profound sadness that the family of Louis Barone announces his passing on Thursday, July 31 at St. Joseph's Villa, Sudbury, Ontario, at the age of 86. He will be sadly and deeply missed by Agnes (nee Dool), his wife of 61 years; children - Linda Wilson (Bob) of Sudbury and Gary (Barbara) of Oakville; grandchildren - Justin Barone (Lisa Logan) and Stephanie Barone; and soon-to-be born great granddaughter, Jade. Dear brother of Fred Baroni, James Baroni, Rita Newman (Fred-deceased), Eva Townsend (James), and Anita Paulin (Léo). Lovingly remembered by nieces and nephews in Ontario, Calgary, and California. Predeceased by his parents Caroline and Ventura; three brothers - Mario, Anthony, and Cecil; and three sisters - Rose, Mary Malone, and Eileen Cappadocia (Dominic). Born and raised in North Bay, Louis worked for the Ontario Northland Railroad for 37 years and then owned and operated Lou's Antiques on McIntyre Street East in North Bay for nearly 20 years. He and Agnes moved to Sudbury in the summer of 2006. BUTT, Robert Donald "Don" - Born February 20th, 1938 in Ottawa ON. Died at St. Vincent Hospital in Ottawa after a courageous battle with cancer on July 07, 2008 at the age of 70. Don was the first of two children born to Donald R. Butt and Marjorie M. Butt, nee Giles. His younger brother William Clive 1940-1941 died in infancy. Don was raised on Hinton Avenue in Ottawa attending local schools and Ottawa Tech. After graduating he worked for EMI (Electronics Material International), a research and repair facility in Ottawa. In April 1963 he joined the then Department of External Affairs, now Foreign Affairs Canada, as a rotational Electronics Technician. He served overseas in Bonn, Dar-es-Salem, Lagos, Saigon, Tokyo, Beijing and Belgrade, retiring in 1995. Don enjoyed many a beer with friends at the Eastview Legion on Cyr Ave. in Ottawa, his second home. He will be missed by all those fortunate enough to have known him. Heartfelt thanks to the 5th floor nurses and staff of St. Vincent Hospital for their devoted care, to friends who visited and especially to Murray and his family for their dedication during his battle with cancer. FREELAND, Helda (nee Collins) - In loving memory of Helda A. Freeland (nee Collins), 93 years, who passed away at the St. Joseph's Villa on Wednesday, July 30th, 2008. Helda was born in North Bay, Ontario, met Allan Freeland and married in 1932. Helda was a homemaker who enjoyed making her homemade white and raisin bread and cinnamon buns until she could no longer remember her recipe. We all miss those days of good bread and buns. Helda loved to fish with her husband Allan (predeceased 1983) at their camp at Lake Panache. Many good fish frys were enjoyed by her family. KENNEDY, William Michael BA, BEd, MEd, MCSC - Life long North Bay resident Michael Kennedy died peacefully at the North Bay General Hospital on Wednesday July 30th, 2008 at the age of 68 years. The proud and loving father of Wendy Kennedy - Sadler (Andrew) and Susan Kennedy both of Calgary he will also be lovingly remembered by his grandchildren Jack Sadler and Kaelyn Kennedy. He is also survived by his former wife Adelynn Griffiths. The son of the late William and Noretta Kennedy, Michael was predeceased by his brother Robert, sister Madeline Simpson, and his nephew Michael Kennedy. Michael's career with the Nipissing Board of Education spanned 35 years, many of which were spent as an elementary school principal. He was an active and dedicated member of the Algonquin Regiment, serving as the Commanding Officer from 1985- 1988. Lt. Col. Kennedy (retired) received the Canadian Decoration for Military Service. He was also a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 23 and a member of the Masonic Lodge 455 A.F. & A.M. In keeping with Michael's wishes cremation has taken place. No visitation or public funeral services will be held. Sadly missed by many nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives and friends. Born in Nemegos, On. Elmer married his sweetheart Lillian on Juhannus, June 24th, 1950. Living in Nemegos and then Kormak, On. Elmer was a part of the family business of Kormak Lumber for many years. He enjoyed flying his super cub PA-18-A, and other planes for Kormak Lumber and for pleasure. On moving to Sudbury, Lillian and Elmer retired on their property in Long Lake, enjoying the lake side solitude. Elmer enjoyed hunting and fishing in his younger years, and puttering around the yard and garage, inventing gadgets for his '82 Grand Marquis, '79 Ford truck and '51 Military Jeep. Elmer's hobby for many years was wild rice harvesting, having gotten into the hobby with his brother Sulo, and both families. Elmer was very proud of being a member of the Masons with the Lorne Lodge #622 in Chapleau for 50 years. The family express their sincere appreciation to Dr. Roch, the 4th floor nurses staff at Laurentian Hospital, staff from Bayshore Home Health, Alzheimer Society, staff at CCAC, Total Nursing Care and Seniors Only. HOWARD, Lady Betty Howarth (Ludlow) - Cherished wife of the late Sir H. Edward De C. Howard, Bt., G.B.E. At her residence “The Maples“, Purley, Surrey, England, seven days short of her 93rd birthday; survived by her sons Sir David (Valerie), and John (Virginia), seven grandchildren and two great-granddaughters; her older sister Barbara Noble, Mississauga and her brother St. John (Singe) Ludlow, Cainsville. Born in Leominster, England, she came to Canada with her family in 1928, attended Bellview Public and Brantford Collegiate. She resided in Toronto until her marriage to F/O Howard, RAF at H.M. Chapel of the Mohawks in July 1943. She returned to England with her husband in 1945 when operations at #5, S.F.T.S. ended. While raising her two sons she became involved as an environmental activist, and was “Hostess“ of the Mansion House, twice while her father-in-law and husband served terms as “Lord Mayor of London“. Predeceased by her parents, Major Percy H. and A. Edith Ludlow, her sisters Winifred Yeomans, Daphne Biggin and Judith Wilson, her brothers F/O Michael (1943) and David. MICHAL, George - After a long and fulfilling life, George Michal succumbed peacefully at the Woolcott Wing of the Welland Hospital on Thursday, July 31, 2008 at the age of 94. By his side for over 71 years was his cherished wife Anna. Loving father of Margaret Stec (George), Rose Levay (Sonny), Steve (Penny), and Rick (Cindy). Forever loved by his grandchildren Laurie, Jeff, Caroline, Stefanie, Lynzi, David and Anthony, and his great-grandchildren Simon, Cameron, Caitie and Joseph. He is also survived by family in Slovakia and Budapest, and he was predeceased by his daughter Ann and his brother Andrew. Mr. Michal was born in Slovakia and came to Canada in 1938. He was one of the founding members of Holy Ghost Slovak Greek Catholic Church and had later attended The Parish Community of St. Kevin. He was a member of the Canadian Slovak Benefit Society, the Canadian Slovak League and the Slovak Seniors. Mr. Michal worked in the 10-2 mill at Atlas Steels for forty years until his retirement. Friends are invited to call at J.J. POOLE, Warren With saddened hearts, the family of Warren Poole announce his passing on Tuesday, July 29, 2008. He died peacefully in his home surrounded by family following a brief illness. Warren is lovingly remembered by his wife Dorothy with whom he shared 57 wonderful years of marriage and his children Sharon (Brian), Donna (Terence), Karen (Greg) and Gord. He was a much loved and admired Poppa of Amanda, Brent, Josh, Vanessa, Nick, Trevor, Caitlin, Alex and Garrett. He is also survived by his sisters Bev and Shirley. He will be fondly remembered for his sense of humor, great story telling and passion for sports. As a young man he loved to play broomball and baseball. Warren went on to coach men's hockey and softball and led his Millionaires broomball team to win the Quebec Provincial Championship in 1959. In later years he took much pleasure in cheering on his grandchildren in their sports activities and other endeavors. A special thank you to Dr. Louise Coulombe and the Health Care team provided by CCAC. At Warren's request no funeral service will be held. RODDY, Grace Viola - (Amazing) Grace passed away on Sunday, July 6th, 2008 in the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre. Grace was born in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario on October 10, 1918. Grace was called to serve God and others at a young age. Grace joined the Order of the Sisters of St. Joseph in 1938 and was known as Sister St. Matthew until her retirement from the Order in 1992. Her Gypsy like teaching career had her teaching various grades in communities all over Ontario. In her sixties still seeking higher education she went back to school and received her Master's Degree from Cannon Law. Grace was made Director of The Seniorate and also worked at the Marriage Tribunal Office for the Diocese. Grace was the highest example of change at any age, changing her lifestyle, attitude and spiritual path. Once retired from the Order of Sisters she made a new life for herself. She developed her passion and talent for art and painting, she loved to travel and never stopped seeking knowledge. Proving again that one is never too old to change. She vivaciously tried to live a healthy, organic natural foods lifestyle and researched tirelessly to help family and friends through good nutrition and homiopathic remedies. She threw herself into the Tai Chi Community, and spent her 80th birthday on The Great Wall of China. She made wonderful friends in the chiropractic, Tai Chi, and seniors community where she was extremely active and found a new peace, strength and true reflection of her authentic spirit. Friends from Thunder Bay became her family and we are eternally grateful for the love, patience and respect they showered our beloved Amazing Grace. In her 70's she trained in the art and healing of massage therapy and touch. She started a hug book to which many people around the world who will forever by a part of. She truly was amazing. Grace was the eldest of three. Daughter of the late Blanche (Nault), Reginald Roddy. Sister of the late Bud (Rose), of the late Helen (late Leo). She is survived by many nieces, nephews, great nieces, and nephews, all of whom have been touched by her tenacious energy and spirit.
