REGAN, Kim Kim Regan, a lifelong resident of Calgary, born on September 21, 1930, passed away on July 30, 2008 at the Fanning Centre. Kim is survived by her son Brian "Cam" Antaya, of Calgary, daughter Juhli (Michael) Shaw of Thunder Bay, granddaughters Jennifer, Kimberly and Kristen Shaw; and brother John (Kay) Agnew of Calgary. Kim is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her parents Eveline and John Agnew, and brother Hinds Agnew. A celebration in honour of Kim's life will be held at 2836 - 35 Street S.W., Calgary, AB on Monday, August 4, 2008 at 1:00 p.m. The family has asked that in lieu of flowers, a donation be made to a charity of your choice. FLANIGAN, Bill Entered into rest at the Brockville General Hospital, Garden St. Site, on Thursday, July 31, 2008. Bill Flanigan at the age of 73 years. Beloved husband of the former Phyllis Evans. Dear father of Kathy Maximos and her husband Max of R.R. 7, Perth. Sadly missed by his only granddaughter Chelsea. Brother of Jack Flanigan (Jean) of Lyn. ARMSTRONG, Terry - After a courageous battle with cancer, Terry died on July 28, 2008 at his home in Earls Barton, England, with his family by his side. Survived by his wife, Chris and daughters Paula and Karen (Steve). They lived in Sault Ste. Marie from 1973 to 1986 and made many friends here who will mourn his passing. MILLER, REGINALD J. - The death of Reginald J. Miller, loving husband of Jennie (Dunlop) occurred on Tuesday, July 29, 2008 at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Reg was born on December 7, 1927 in Trois Rivieres, Quebec, the only child of the late James Miller and Anna (Reinsborough). Reg's father died in a tragic mill accident when Reg was just four months of age. Reg and his mother moved back to the Miramichi area where he grew up. He attended St. Thomas University before moving to Saint John, where he was employed in the automotive industry for many years. He retired from his position as a purchasing agent with Commercial Equipment in 1992. Reg was a "perfect" son to his mother Anna, and it was Anna who introduced him to Jennie. They married in 1954. Reg was a loving father to Anne (William) Stroud, Susan Gorham, Linda (Donald) LeBlanc, James, Gary, Paul and Jane (Scott) Johnson. Reg took great pleasure in spending time with his 10 grandchildren, Matthew, Anna, Robert, Leah, Ben, Kevin, Sarah, Peter, Mark and Christopher, and his great grandchildren, Eli and Eve. Reg was predeceased by his stepfather, Carroll Doran, and his son-in-law Stewart Gorham. Reg had a lifelong passion for cars, first driving in the yard in Chatham at the young age of seven. He enjoyed working on cars all his life, and was involved with stock car racing for many years, as a pit crew chief. Reg was able to fix almost anything. He was an avid sports fan, playing basketball and rugby in his youth, and golf as an adult. He was a great fan of the Montreal Expos, and Toronto Maple Leafs, and more recently, of the Saint John Seadogs. Reg looked forward to completing the daily crossword puzzles in the newspaper. He and Jennie enjoyed spending summers at their trailer at the T.N.T. Campground in Coles Island, where they made many great friends. Like his mother before him, Reg was a person of great faith. He was a longtime member of St. Joachim's Parish. Reg's family are deeply appreciative of the care he received from the Extra-Mural Team at home, and from the staff of the Palliative Care Unit at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Reg is resting at Fundy Funeral Home, 230 Westmorland Road, Saint John (646-2424) with visiting on Thursday, July 31 between 7 to 9pm and on Friday, August 1 between 2 to 4pm and 7 to 9 pm. A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated from St. Joachim's Church on Saturday, August 2 at 10am. Interment will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery. ROACH, Ernest “Cutler“ - Of St. Thomas passed away on Friday, July 25th, 2008 at the St. Thomas - Elgin General Hospital in his 76th year. Husband of Shirley (Clarke) Roach and father of Earl Roach (Tanya) of London, Janet Schmeltz (Ron) of Trout Creek, Christine Roche of Powassan, and step father of Debra Schmerbauch (Helmer) of St. Thomas. Brother of Minnie Steves, Allison Roach and Barbara Coltson. Predeceased by four sisters Stacey Roach, Ruth McDonald, Velda Campbell, and Helen Tapp and four brothers William, Earl, Morton and Paul Roach. Grandfather of Chris, Stephanie, Robert, Teri, Angela, Michael, Stephen, Pamela, Tamara, Amber, Andrew and Sierra and great- grandfather of Lillian and Joshua. Cutler was born in Darnley, P.E.I. on September 1, 1932, son of the late Fred and Elizabeth (Inman) Roach. He drove truck and worked at the St. Thomas Psychiatric Hospital til he retired in 1989. MITCHELL, James F. (Jim) Group Captain DFC & Bar, AFC, CD-RCAF Retired April 23, 1916 - July 30, 2008 On July 30, at the age of 92, Jim Mitchell, beloved husband of the late May (nee Leadbeater) Mitchell for 59 years. Dear companion in recent years of the late Dorothy Ellis. Cherished father of Glenn (Marie) of Edmonton, Wayne (Elisabeth) and Susan (Rorry) Harding of Ottawa. Beloved grandfather of Carrie, Colin, Marianne, Jennifer, Kyle and Dana, and great-grandfather of Maya. Dear brother of George (Kae) of Newcastle; Norma (Art) of Bobcaygeon; Don (Shirley) of Sandpoint, Idaho; and the late Irene, Frank and Pearl. Born in Toronto, he joined the RCAF on July 1, 1940. First Canadian to receive pilot's wings at 3 SFTS Calgary in February, 1941. Served as flying instructor at 7 SFTS Macleod before going overseas in November, 1942. Completed two tours of operations in Bomber Command, the second with RAF Pathfinders (RAF No. 9 & No. 83 Sqns.). In peacetime, served with distinction as CO of SAR Sqn Edmonton, CO of 408 Sqn Rockcliffe, and CO of RCAF Station Winnipeg. Awarded DFC and Bar for wartime operations, and AFC in '51 for evacuating a seriously ill civilian from Eureka Sound under extremely difficult conditions of time, distance, and weather. Graduate of RAF Staff College (psa, 1946) and National Defence College (ndc, 1963). Staff appointments included: CAS Secretary '47 (Ottawa); Asst. Air Attache Paris '51; Asst. Cdn. National Representative to SHAPE '52 (Paris); RCAF Staff College Instructor '54 (Toronto); Asst. Director NORAD Operations '63; and Command Director, NORAD Combat Operations Centre, '66 (Colorado Springs). Special assignments included Field Officer in Waiting to HM Queen Elizabeth '57 and RCAF Aide de Camp to HRH Princess Margaret during her '58 Canadian tour. Following his retirement from the Air Force in 1967 he pursued a career in management training in the federal public service. An officer and a gentleman, who led by example, and showed others how to live with courage, generosity, and good humour. MCINTYRE, James Joseph James passed away peacefully on July 28, 2008, in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. He was predeceased by his loving wife, Rita, on November 30, 1995. Left to mourn the loss of an exceptional man, devoted brother, a great father (grandfather), are his sister, Anna MacDonald of Charlottetown, P.E.I., brother-in-law Rev. Allan F. MacDonald of Glennfinnan, P.E.I., his six children and their families: son, Dr. Jim (Oksana and grandchildren, Inessa, Jamie and Larissa ) of Red Deer, Alta.; son, John (Helen Roberts and grandchildren, Glenys and Alexa) of Vancouver, B.C.; daughter Mary (Don Schaab and grandchildren, Christopher and Katharine) of Calgary Alta.; daughter Rita (Kirby Wright and grandchildren, Matthew and Stephen) of Edmonton Alta.; son Alan of Mississauga, Ont.; son David (Nancy and grandchildren, Alanna and Preston) of Saskatoon, Sask.., nephew Allan MacDonald (Lynne) of Windsor, Ont., niece Joanne MacDonald (Wayne Peters) of Charlottetown, P.E.I., and niece Shelia MacDonald (Mike Campbell and grandnieces Anna and Sarah) of Budapest, Hungary. James was the son of James Duncan McIntyre and Mary Evelyn Bambrick. He was born in Vulcan, Alberta, July 20, 1923. In his early childhood, he returned with his family to Glenroy, P.E.I., due to his parents’ ill health. Growing up on a farm he had a bond and a lifelong love for all animals. Facing adversity in his early years, he developed strong values in perseverance, hard work, dedication, commitment to family, and a lifelong love of learning. With the help of his sister, relatives, friends and neighbours, he cared for his invalid father during his teenage years. Following his father’s death, he enlisted with the Canadian Army during the Second World War and as a member of the tank corp, assisting in the liberation of Holland. Following his discharge, he returned to a career in the mining industry. On September 1, 1953, he married the love of his life, Rita MacDonald of Glennfinnan, P.E.I. His career took them to various locations throughout Canada, ultimately settling in Saskatoon. The “Goose” or “Grey Fox” enjoyed a long career, earning the respect and admiration of many in the mining industry through his quiet, thoughtful leadership. His retirement years were filled with delight in time spent with his children and grandchildren. A prayer service will be offered at St. Francis Xavier Parish on Wednesday, July 30, at 7 p.m. The funeral mass will be held at St. Francis Xavier Parish on Thursday, July 31 at 2 pm. Interment to follow at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Canadian Diabetes Association would be greatly appreciated. The arrangements have been entrusted to the Saskatoon Funeral Home.

CAMPBELL (BETTS), JEAN H. - Jean H. (Betts) Campbell, 87, Kingston Peninsula, NB died at the Saint John Regional Hospital, Saint John, NB on July 30, 2008. She was the daughter of the late Victor and Grace (Houston) Betts. She is survived by her husband Ralph Blaine Campbell, 11 children Burton (Kathy) Barnesville, Joseph (Liliane) Montreal, Lenora (John) Poulos, Fredericton, Terry (Kathy), Kingston, Paul, Kingston, Anne, Halifax, Hazel (Greg Murphy), Halifax, Roscoe (Joan), Kingston, Eloise (Roger) Tracy, Fredericton, Juanita MacLean, Fredericton, Rebecca, Kingston, an abundance of grandchildren and great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her daughter-in-law Margaret "Margie", sisters Grace Healey, Mary (Middleton) Hatfield, Ethel Wilson and brothers Herbert and Alfred Betts. Mum loved farming and selling her fruit and vegetables at the Saint John City Market (especially her raspberries to Pete Luckett in the 60's & 70's), hunting, fishing, knitting socks and mittens for her family and friends. In later years she enjoyed making over 40 knitted baby sets for the Guardian Angels Program, Saint John Regional Hospital and anyone who was in need. Special thanks to Dr. Collings and all the doctors, nurses and staff on 3C South, Saint John Regional Hospital. Friends will be received at Reid's Funeral Home (832-5541), 1063 Main Street, Hampton from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 Friday. Emily Catherine Keirstead Emily Catherine Keirstead, of Halifax and East Margaree passed away July 14, 2008, peacefully at home after a courageous battle with cancer. She was born in Arichat, Cape Breton on December 4th, 1939 and was the daughter of the late Thomas and Lillian (Bourque) Duyon. Her greatest gifts and crowning achievements were her children who she leaves to mourn, a son, Glenn (Kelly) and daughters, Carlene (Randy) and Natalie (John). She also leaves grandchildren, Ronnie, Catherine, Darrell, Tommy, Nathania and Benjamin, the youngest two, who she leaves in the capable hands of their other grandparents, Bernard and Janet. She was predeceased by her husband, Roderick in 2004, as well as his parents, Berna and Clement Keirstead of Apple River. Cremation has taken place. Liturgy of Christian burial will be held for Emily and Roderick where they were married at Our Lady of Assumption Church in Arichat, Nova Scotia on August 19, 2008 at 2pm, Father D. Deveraux officiating and Father J. J. MacDonald assisting. They will be laid to rest in their beloved Margaree in St. Michael's Church Cemetery. The family wishes to express heartfelt thanks and gratitude to the many friends and family members who, when needed, rushed to her side and to her medical team whose expertise, care and compassion meant so much. In lieu of flowers Mom would greatly appreciate donations for Our Lady of Assumption Parish Organ Restoration Fund, P.O. Box 60, Arichat, N.S., B0E 1A0. DÉPÔT, Frère Aimé-Onil, C.S.V. 1929 - 2008 Le frère Aimé-Onil Dépôt, clerc de Saint-Viateur, est décédé subitement à Outremont le 31 juillet 2008, à l'âge de 79 ans, dans sa 63e année de profession religieuse. Né à Montréal le 9 mars 1929, le frère Dépôt a prononcé ses premiers voeux chez les Clercs de Saint-Viateur le 15 août 1945. Après une période d'étude à notre École Normale de Rigaud, le frère Dépôt, de 1948 à 1964, a enseigné dans diverses écoles de la région de Montréal tout en complétant sa formation professionnelle. En 1964, il rejoint nos confrères qui travaillent au Manitoba. Il se dévouera auprès de la communauté francophone pendant une quinzaine d'années : d'abord à Otterburne, puis à Saint-Claude et à Sainte-Anne. Il a laissé le souvenir d'un éducateur dévoué qui ne comptait pas son temps et qui avait le souci de promouvoir la vie culturelle chez les francophones. On se rappelle spécialement de ses « boîtes à chansons ». À partir de 1978, on le retrouve à Rome au service de la Direction générale où on a pu apprécier sa compétence et son dévouement infatigable pendant plus de 25 ans. Il s'est occupé principalement des diverses publications de la congrégation et a aidé au secrétariat. En 2007, il est rentré au Canada et a vécu à la Maison provinciale d'Outremont. Outre sa famille religieuse, le frère Dépôt laisse dans le deuil son frère Georges, ses deux soeurs Aline et Cécile, Missionnaire de l'Immaculée-Conception, quelques neveux et nièces et de nombreux amis. Le frère Aimé-Onil Dépôt sera exposé à la : Résidence Louis-Querbes 450, avenue Querbes, Outremont (514) 274-3624 le vendredi 1er août, de 14 h à 17 h et de 19 h à 21 h. Born in Newcastle, NB, Edgar was the son of the late Exeber (Angus) and Clara (LeBlanc) LaTulippe. Edgar attended St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church and was retired from the Anderson's Mill. Edgar is survived by one sister: Beatrice Kelly of Miramichi, NB and one brother: Ernest (Pearl) of Ferry Road, NB and several nieces and nephews. WRIGHT, Norman Thomas - Norman Thomas Wright, age 76, passed away peacefully on July 30th at Bluewater Health, Norman Site. Beloved husband of Marilyn (Phillips) Wright. Will be deeply missed by his children Debra Wright (Michael Hurry), Sandra Butler (Paul Butler) and Steven Wright (Dale Zentner), and his adoring grandchildren Jessica, Samantha, Kerry and Jesse. Survived by his brother Edward Wright (Jane LeClair), sisters Mary Ann Sharpe and Sharon Tighe (Pat Tighe), sister-in-law Mary Rogers, and several nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his parents Norman and Ann Wright, parents-in- law Robert and Lavena Phillips, and brothers-in-law Robert Sharpe and Burt Phillips. So that others may be helped, he has requested that his body be donated to the University of Western Ontario's Department of Anatomy and Cell Biology. Hazel Lillian Salmon The death of Hazel Lillian Salmon of Florenceville, NB occurred on Tuesday, April 1, 2008 at the Kennebec Nursing Home, Saint John, NB. Born in Upper Kent, NB on July 3, 1925, she was a daughter of the late Paul and Gladys (Hunter) Salmon. Hazel had a long career in public health, having graduated from Montreal General as a Registered Nurse, Dalhousie University with Batchelor of nursing, and McGill University with a masters of science. She worked as a nurse and nursing supervisor in many Canadian cities. Hazel was very generous in making donations to many charities and volunteering at her local elementary school into her eighties. She was famous for her knowledge and talent with gardening, a love of her life. Hazel will be remembered and dearly missed for her spunk, wit and kindness, by everyone who knew her. Survived by her sister, Pauline (Bill) Duff of Cedar Camp, NB; her brother, James Salmon of Saint John; two nieces, Kim (Lorne) Blagdon of Fredericton Junction, NB and Leslie (Pat) Johnston of Halifax, NS; and three nephews, Larry (Luan) Salmon of Saint John, Stephen (Trish) Duff of Halifax and Jeff (Sue) Duff of Saint John. SISK, JOSEPH LEO - Joseph L. Sisk of Fredericton and formerly of Lincoln, passed away peacefully at the DECH after a brief hospitalization. He was 93. Joe is survived by his wife of 59 years, Margaret (nee Horsman); sons, Tom (Davida), Peter (Liz); brother, Danny (Madeline); sisters, Joan (Jimmy), Teresa (Kurt); granddaughters, Kate and Erin; step-grandsons, John Morrison, Ed Morrison, Hugh Morrison; and many nieces and nephews. Susan Logie (Nobbs) Fraser Born in Peterborough, ON on 16th March 1943, died at Victoria Hospice on 29 July 2008 after a brave, year long battle with cancer. Her husband Chris, daughter Karen (with husband Paul) and son Jeff were with her for her last few weeks. She will also be remembered by her grandchildren Spencer and Maxwell in Edmonton, and her brothers Ted and Mike and their families in Ontario. Susan's passions were her art (calligraphy and watercolour) and her many friends and colleagues. She was at different times Chair of the West Coast Calligraphy Society (Vancouver) and the Fairbank Calligraphy Society (Victoria). She had also been active with Newcomers and Swans (Victoria). Susan cherished her time at Shorelines, the home she and Chris created on Saltspring Island, and the many hours spent there with family and friends. Susan will be remembered by many for her smile and the great joy she both gave and received from people, her surroundings and life in general. At Susan's request, there will not be a funeral. There will be a celebration of her life at a date and time to be announced in the near future. Dr. Thelma Louise Keirstead 1913-2008 Dr. Thelma Louise Keirstead, 95, of Alma passed away peacefully on July 30, 2008 at the Kenneth Spencer Memorial Home in Moncton. Thelma was born in Alma on April 11, 1913 the daughter of the late Fred P. and Clara (Fletcher) Keirstead. Thelma was well educated and received an Honorary Doctors Degree. She taught in Nova Scotia, Hillsborough and in Alma but spent most of her career as a Professor at the Teacher's College, UNB, in Fredericton. She received many merit awards for her contribution to education. After her retirement she moved back to her precious hometown of Alma. She was very active in her community and was involved with the Alma Baptist Church, a lifetime member of the Winston Churchill Chapter # 19 O.E.S. and also a member of the Alma Senior's Club. Thelma touched many lives throughout her career and with her passing the Village of Alma has lost an icon. She was respected by all who knew her and will always be remembered. She will be deeply missed by her brother, Wesley Keirstead of Nova Scotia; niece, Phyllis Dale of Victoria, B.C.; nephews, Fred Keirstead of Nova Scotia and John McLaughlin of Alberta; by her grand nieces and nephews; relatives, Pauline Keirstead, Robert and Nancy Keirstead all of Riverside-Albert. She will also be sadly missed by her close friend and caregiver, Kirstin Herta Shortt of Alma. A Memorial Service to honor Thelma's memory will be held at the Albert County Funeral Home on Tuesday, August 5, 2008 at 2:00pm with Pastor Paul Steeves and Pastor Blaine Steeves officiating. Helena Allain Helena Allain, 84 of Moncton, passed away peacefully at the Moncton Hospital on Wednesday, July 30, 2008 surrounded by her loving family. Born in Someren, Holland, one of 11 children, she was the daughter of the late Martinus and Hendrika van de Laar. She came to Canada as a young War Bride in 1946 and was proud to call Canada her home. She retired from the NBCC in 1988. She is survived by three daughters, Ricki (Louis) LeBlanc, Riverview, Rose (late Laird) Killam, Elgin, Rita Cormier, Moncton; and one son, Frank (Ethel) Allain, Hopewell Cape; nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. She is also survived by one sister and two brothers in Holland. Beside her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Edgar, and by seven brothers and sisters.
