ARSENAULT, MARLENE FAY - Marlene Fay Arsenault devoted wife of John J. Arsenault passed away peacefully at the Saint John Regional Hospital after a courageous battle with cancer on Wednesday, July 16th, 2008 surrounded by her loving family. Born May 8,1951 in Saint John to the late Arthur and Pearl Francis (Moore) Nicolle. Devoted wife, mother and grandmother she enjoyed spending time with family and friends. Marlene was a talented artist, seamstress, cake decorator, floral arranger and writer. Besides her husband John of 38 years, she is survived by sons, Michael Anthony (Darlene) of Saint John, Ernest Edward (Kelley) of Saint John; grandson, Colby Joseph Edward; daughter, Pamela Marie Arsenault Ferris (Brian) of Saint John; grandson, Preston Joseph Nicholas; very dear brother, Terry (Valerie) Bizeau of Saint John; brothers, Clarence (Odette) Nicolle of Saint John, Kenneth Arthur of BC, Harold Bizeau of Halifax, NS; sisters, Betty Ann (Joseph) Doucette of Saint John, Erina May (Russell) Hudson, of Saint John; special niece, Fay Clark of Saint John; several nieces, nephews and many friends. VESTERDAL, E. Frances (nee Thompson) August 2, 1930 - July 15, 2008 Frances was received into the loving arms of Jesus in the early hours of Tuesday, July 15, 2008, after she courageously fought her battle with ovarian cancer. Left to mourn her passing are her husband and friend, Knut Vesterdal (married fifty years); her daughters Ellen Vesterdal, Kathy (Ray) Darwent, and son Arthur (Isabelle) Vesterdal; grandchildren Brittany and Ashley Darwent and step-grandson Joel Goulet plus many other relatives and friends. Frances graduated from nursing in 1952 from the University of Alberta. Before marriage, she served as a public health nurse both in Thorsby, AB and in North Vancouver, BC. She nursed in Calgary for many years (usually private-duty), retiring in the mid 1970's and began to sell Avon as a part-time job. While at university she sang in the Mixed Choir and up until April 2008 she sang both in the Northminster United Church Choir and the Scandinavian Choir of Calgary. Earlier, Frances served as a CGIT leader at Thorsby, AB and later at Central United Church in Calgary. She was very active with her church and maintained close contact with her nursing classmates, attending many reunions, the most recent being her fifty-fifth in the spring of 2007 in Victoria, BC. Frances loved to help other people and would often drop by to bring them a little something to cheer them up. She loved camping with her family, first in a tent, and then later in a holiday trailer. IRENE MARGARET MACKELLAR Thursday, July 17, 2008 Irene Margaret (Dowd) MacKellar passed away peacefully on July 10, 2008 at the Kelowna General Hospital in Kelowna, B.C. at the age of 99 years, six months, and 17 days. Irene was born in Kenora, Ont. on Dec. 24, 1908. She married John Frederick MacKellar on May 16, 1931. They lived in Kenora until 1945, when Fred was transferred to the Fort Frances mill of the Ontario Minnesota Pulp and Paper Co. She moved to Kelowna in 1990 to enjoy all the fruit and flowers. Irene was predeceased by her beloved husband on Oct. 31, 1968; her parents, Joanna (1974) and Joseph Richard Dowd (1939); and brother, Lawrence (1968). Irene is survived by her children, Elizabeth “Betty” Julia Sorensen and Peter Richard MacKellar; three grandchildren, Lianne (Sorensen) Kruger, and Ian and Allison (MacKellar) Stewart; and eight great-grandchildren, Rebecca, Jonathan, David, Rachel, and Jeanette Kruger, Madison and Callum MacKellar, and Tavin Stewart. Irene earned an Associate Toronto Conservatory of Music (ATCM) degree and shared her talent with many young students of the Fort Frances Retarded School (25 years). She also enjoyed accompanying soloists for Royal Conservatory exams and musical festivals, including the local production of Handel’s Messiah. Irene was a member of the board of Rainycrest Home for the Aged (eight years) and of the hospital and library boards. She was recognized for her many years of voluntary service to the community as the Lions Club Citizen of the Month (1979), and received Certificates of Appreciation from the Rainycrest noard (1980), Fort Frances District Association for the Mentally Retarded (1971), and from the Town of Fort Frances council (1990). JUANITA SUSAN BRUCE Thursday, July 17, 2008 It is with profound sadness that we want to inform you that after a brief but courageous battle with a very aggressive return of cancer, Juanita Susan Bruce (nee Bragg) passed away Tuesday, July 15, 2008 at her family log cabin by Pony Lake. Juanita loved the outdoors and was happiest here, as well as at Killbear Park and the Bruce Trail. Juanita is survived by her loving and supportive husband, Ian Bruce; devoted daughter, Alex Baxter; dear step-daughters, Natalie and Holly; her parents, David and Eileen Bragg; brother-in-law, Fraser; siblings, Danny (Cheryl), Karen (Gary), Bo (Leslie), Barry, Monique (Bill), and Ginger; 10 much-loved nieces and nephews; and her dog, Jake, and two cats, Sam and Lilly. Juanita was born July 29, 1963 in Fort Frances, Ont., attending Mather Potts and Sturgeon Creek public schools, Fort Frances High School, Confederation College, and Humber College (Toronto), where she studied her passion, horticulture, and eventually became a passionate teacher in the Floral Design Program & Arborist Apprenticeship Program. She also worked as a team with her husband, Ian, at their business, Bruce Tree Expert Company Ltd., where she will be desperately missed by Marilyn, Ron, Ian, Todd, and the operations of the team. Juanita and Ian were together many years, and recently were married on June 27, 2008 at Toronto City Hall. From Ian: Juanita was my best friend, my favourite person to work with at home and at Bruce Tree, my favourite companion to share life’s experiences and travel with, my confidante, my lover. I will cherish memories of our journeys together from Toronto to Finland, Ont., and of our journey together over the past 14 years. The last kiss was as passionate as the first. I love you. Juanita loved life and lived it to its fullest. She was passionate about all aspects of her life: her career in horticulture and as an arborist, her teaching, and especially all of the people she loved. Even once diagnosed, Juanita remained positive, and had the strength and courage to comfort and support all of her family and friends. Juanita had the gift of making everyone feel special and very loved. She judged no one. Her family agrees that “she was the best of us.” She taught us how to love, and how to be strong despite the challenges life presented her. She was our teacher of life, and we must now carry on without her. She filled our minds and, of course, our hearts. So we venture forth, hurting because of our loss, but knowing that her love has strengthened us that we may face it as boldly as she did. Juanita, we love you, we miss you, but most of all we thank you for all that you have given us. Every universe has its “brightest” star; we lost that star today. Juanita lived her life on her terms; she was determined and stood by her high moral code and expectations of others. She was a role model to all who knew her. Those that knew her loved and deeply admired her. Juanita, we will never forget you, and will love you always. We are so grateful for the time we were able to share with you. Visitation will be held Thursday, July 17, 2008 from 7-9 p.m. at the Northridge Funeral Home in Emo, Ont. Juanita will be interred Friday, July 18, 2008 by graveside service from 2-3 p.m. at the Finland Cemetery in Finland. BOUCHOT, COLLEEN ANNE (KELLY) - Colleen Anne (Kelly) Bouchot of Langley, B.C., passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on Wednesday, June 25, 2008, having lost her graceful, managed battle with cancer, after two years. Colleen was born in Saint John on March 12, 1938, the eldest child of the late Adolphus and Levisa (Fleming) Kelly. She was educated in Saint John and moved to Bridgetown, N.S. where she lived, worked, and loved for over 20 years before moving to British Columbia. She was predeceased by two brothers, Douglas and Paul Kelly, and a sister, Fran Walsh. She is survived by her steadfast and loving husband, Maurice Bouchot of Langley; her daughters, Linda Hasley (William) of Carleton Corner, N.S., Dr. Christine Hall (Rick Anthony) of Victoria, B.C., Terri Milton (Randy) of Falmouth, N.S.; her step-daughters, Barbara Bouchot (Dayton) and Belinda Bouchot (Eric), both of Langley; her siblings, Joanne Gordon (Tom) of Aldergrove, B.C., Rose Dupuis (Martial) of Penetanguishe, Ont., Sharon (Thompson (Vinny) of Martinon, Claire Kelly of Toronto, Ken Kelly (Gail) of Quispamsis, Charles Kelly (Susan) of Saint John, Howard Kelly (Ella) of Grand Bay-Westfield, Connie Mitchell (Sam) of Kingston, N.B., and dedicated friend, Judy Benjamin of Saint John. BRISLEY, Katherine Elizabeth ‘Kay' (Anderson) - A resident of Chatham, Kay Brisley died on Wednesday, July 16, 2008, at the Windsor Metropolitan Hospital, at the age of 88. Born in Howard Township to the late Arthur and Ethel (Duddy) Anderson. Beloved wife of the late Gordon 'Gord' Brisley (2006). Loving mother of Bonnie and her husband Brad Brown of Port Stanley, Bette and her husband Patrick Catton of Amherstburg, and Janice and her husband Richard Leschyshyn of Corunna. Kay will be missed by her grandchildren Heather Brown & Phil, Kevin Brown & wife Kerrin, Jessica Catton & Chad, Ryan Catton & Karen, Josh Leschyshyn, Warren Leschyshyn and her great grandson Dylan. Many nieces and nephews also survive. Predeceased by her brother William (Bill) and his wife Ruth Anderson. Kay Graduated from PGH Nursing in 1942 and was a past president of the PGH Nursing Alumni. Kay and her husband Gord were both charter members of Sprucedale United Church. She was also a past president of the UCW, and she most recently became a member of the St. Andrew's Residence Auxiliary.
