DeMAERE, Margaret Pearl October 2, 1939 - July 15, 2008 Margaret Pearl DeMaere (Hawkins) passed away peacefully at the age of 68 on July 15, 2008 with her husband and all her children gathered around her. Pearl was born in Indian Head, Saskatchewan on October 2, 1939. She grew up in Red Deer, Alberta. Pearl graduated in the 1961 Class of Nursing at the University Hospital in Edmonton. After graduating Pearl started her first job as an RN at the Holy Cross Hospital in Calgary. She met Doral in 1962 and they got married in 1963. They lived in the United States from 1964 to 1969 where three of their children were born. They moved back to Calgary in 1969. Pearl loved gardening and had a beautiful garden and was a member of the Rose Society. She loved doing family history work and has done a great amount of research on her ancestors. She has left a wonderful record of her family's history. Above all, she was a dedicated wife and mother. She was frugal in meeting her own needs, but generous to her family and friends. Despite all her health problems, she was a kind and patient ray of light to everyone. Pearl loved all of her friends, classmates and colleagues and thought of them often. She treasured her membership in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and she appreciated all those who visited her over the years. She will be greatly missed and always remembered by her husband Doral, her five children: Julie, Roch (Roslyn), Andra (Pat), Chris, Catherine as well as her eight grandchildren, her sister Doreen Girard, nephew Mark Girard, and many others whose lives she touched. The family would like to extend their sincere thanks to Maureen, Dr. Heimbach, Dr. Chan, the staff at the Rockyview Hospital as well as all the other people that have attended to her over the years. THOMAS, Stanley E. Of Cochrane, passed away peacefully at home on July 14, 2008, at the age of 89. Stan will be lovingly remembered by his children, Grant, Glen and Wendy and his four grandchildren, Dan (Dionne), Kristi (Jeff), Shari and Rob and five great-grandchildren, Adriana, Dylan, Alyssa, Devin and Asher, as well as numerous nieces, nephews and extended family members. He was predeceased by his wife Coral, and sister Ferne. Stan was born on December 11, 1918 in Durban, Manitoba and was raised in Swan River. At the age of fourteen, Stan's family moved to Southern Alberta and settled in Picture Butte. As a young man he served in WWII with the 14th Troop Carrying Company. Following the war, he returned to Alberta where he married the love of his life Coral and together the couple raised three children. He was an avid sportsman and a natural athlete as well as a proud member of the Royal Canadian Legion for over sixty-two years. Stan spent the last years of his life in Cochrane. He will be deeply missed but has left his loving family with many wonderful memories. VESTERDAL, E. Frances (nee Thompson) August 2, 1930 - July 15, 2008 Frances was received into the loving arms of Jesus in the early hours of Tuesday, July 15, 2008, after she courageously fought her battle with ovarian cancer. Left to mourn her passing are her husband and friend, Knut Vesterdal (married fifty years); her daughters Ellen Vesterdal, Kathy (Ray) Darwent, and son Arthur (Isabelle) Vesterdal; grandchildren Brittany and Ashley Darwent and step-grandson Joel Goulet plus many other relatives and friends. Frances graduated from nursing in 1952 from the University of Alberta. Before marriage, she served as a public health nurse both in Thorsby, AB and in North Vancouver, BC. She nursed in Calgary for many years (usually private-duty), retiring in the mid 1970's and began to sell Avon as a part-time job. While at university she sang in the Mixed Choir and up until April 2008 she sang both in the Northminster United Church Choir and the Scandinavian Choir of Calgary. Earlier, Frances served as a CGIT leader at Thorsby, AB and later at Central United Church in Calgary. She was very active with her church and maintained close contact with her nursing classmates, attending many reunions, the most recent being her fifty-fifth in the spring of 2007 in Victoria, BC. Frances loved to help other people and would often drop by to bring them a little something to cheer them up. She loved camping with her family, first in a tent, and then later in a holiday trailer. MONTGOMERY, Dawson (Doc) - Passed away peacefully on Saturday, July 12th in his 86th year. Husband of Dorothy (2001), he will be sadly missed by daughter Beverly Eldridge (Ted) and son Rick (Linda), six grandchildren and one great grandchild. Dad's service in WWII was in the Royal Canadian Navy and most of his time was spent on a minesweeper in the North Atlantic. Dad was then employed for over forty years in the manufacturing division of the Fuller Brush Company in Hamilton, Burlington, Jamaica and in Kansas. He was instrumental in building the Southern Ontario Rabbit Breeder's Association and introduced the commercial breeding of rabbits to the Jamaican economy. PRUNER, Herbert Wesley - Died at St. Catharines General Hospital on Monday, July 14, 2008 in his 86th year of life. Predeceased by his wife, Dulcie (May 11, 1986). Survived by his wife and devoted companion, Reta Hodgson, whom he married on February 14, 2003. Beloved father to David Pruner (wife Cindy) and Karen Kish (husband Karl) and loving stepfather to Margaret Hodgson and Patricia Hodgson-Carruth. Much loved grandfather to four grandchildren - Evan, Katie, Leah, and Philip - and proud great grandfather of baby Bryson. Dear brother of George (wife Kay) and Don (wife Joan) and remembered by many nephews and nieces. Fondly remembered by lifetime friend John Shore (wife Thelma), best friend George Towle, and sadly missed by neighbours and friends in the community. Herb retired as an inspector from TRW in 1987, but continued working in sales for Talbot Marketing for the next 21 years, and is thus remembered by his many clients in the Niagara area. Herb came to St. Catharines in 1936, where he raised his two children, shared in the lives of his four grandchildren, and saw the birth of his great grandson on December 7, 2007. He was devoted to the four generations of his family and will be always loved and remembered by all of them. At Herb's request, cremation has taken place.
