DOUGHERTY, William Nathaniel February 2, 1922 - July 9, 2008 William Nathaniel Dougherty of Calgary passed away at home the way he wanted on Wednesday, July 9, 2008 at the age of 86 years. Bill was born on February 2, 1922 in Calgary, AB where he chose to live all but his war years in Northwest Calgary, finishing school at Crescent Heights. He served in the RCAF in WWII and spent his working life mostly with Canada Post. Bill was a kind, quiet man who served his country and his family with love and dignity to the best of his ability. He was a good man. Bill is survived by his son, Brian (Diana); grandchildren Sean, Devin, and Cameron. He was predeceased by his wife of fifty-two years, Gladys. LIVESEY, Elizabeth (Betty) Elizabeth (Betty) Livesey passed away at the Foothills Hospital on July 9, 2008 at the age of 95 years. She is survived by her nephew Michael of Japan and nieces, Deidre, Jennifer, and Anne of England and Bridgett of Australia. Betty will also be lovingly remembered by her very dear friends Claire Malcolm and Elsie Lemon. She was predeceased by her sister Edna Livingston. Elizabeth was born and raised in Wallasey, England and immigrated to Canada in 1948. She was a loyal employee of the Bank of Montreal for twenty-five years. She was a member of the Kerby Centre where she loved to dance. Elizabeth was a very giving and supportive person to many charities including Operation Eyesight, CNIB and The Mustard Seed. She was a firm believer and supporter of Amnesty International and a proud member of First Baptist Church of Calgary. HAMELIN, Jim - In memory of Jim (Robert James Edward Alde) Hamelin who passed away on July 3, 2008 at the Thessalon Hospital in his 67th year. Jim was born on February 4, 1942 and is predeceased by his parents Alde and Christine and his brother Grant. Jim was a longtime resident of Massey and spent his final year at Light Haven Christian Home in Bruce Mines where he was well cared for. He worked for C.P. Rail and with various logging operations along the North Shore. Jim was a very gentle, caring and soft spoken man who loved all of God's creatures. He will be sadly missed by his friends in Massey, Sagamok and Bruce Mines. A Memorial Service will be held at the chapel at Light Haven on Monday, July 21 at 2:30pm. TUDAYAN, Constantino Sapguian December 26, 1927 - July 13, 2008 It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved Papang, Constantino Tudayan, on July 13, 2008 at the age of 80 years. He is much loved and survived by his wife of forty-nine years, Leonida; his daughters Evangeline (Marius) and Grace (Winston); his grandsons Kelvin, Llewell, and Marvin; his brother, Gorio, and sister, Felisa. He was predeceased by his son, Oliver, in 1997. He is also loved and survived by numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, grandchildren and great-grandchildren in California, Texas, and in the Philippines. He is lovingly remembered for his unyielding love for his family. He was an industrious and very hard working farmer. For many years, he served as chief of police in his birthplace. He loved to travel and was very active until shortness of breath and chest pain slowed him down. He was a lot of fun. Our family wishes to express our heartfelt thanks to family members and friends in Canada, in the United States and in the Philippines for their wonderful support and their unending prayers. Special thanks to the staff at the Foothills Hospital for their excellent care and allowing family at bedside. Unit 82 accommodated our privacy for our traditions for the sick. KEMPSTER, Robert W. Died on July 14, 2008 in the University of Ottawa Heart Institute. He was born in London, United Kingdom on June 5, 1923. He leaves his wife Amy (nee Steele), his daughters Anne McLaughlin (Doug Buckley) of Constance Bay, and Alison Kempster (Jean Sylvestre) of Gatineau; his sons John (Marilyn) of Halifax, Geoffrey (Maureen) of Edmonton, Graham (Pearl) and Neil (Marietta) of Kemptville. He will be remembered by his grandchildren Kim Roper of Gatineau, Alicia Kempster-Reckzin, Kathrine Sylvestre of Montreal, Lee (Wendy) of Calgary, Ian and James Kempster of Edmonton, David Sylvestre of Gatineau and Alexander Kempster of Kemptville; also by his great- grandchildren Ian and Paul Bristow, Thomas Boyd and Rhianna Holton. He is survived by his sisters-in-law Kate Borrett of London, England, Pat and Marion Steele of Guelph, and Joan Peake of Ipswich, UK; and by brother-in-law John Steele (Rita). He is predeceased by his parents Robert and Amelia Kempster, his sister Gladys and brothers Leslie, Fred (Joan) and Wally Borrett. Bob went through the Battle of Britain as a teenage evening volunteer on an ack-ack gun and then joined the RAF in 1941. He became a radar technician mainly based in the Shetlands but as the war ended, rounding up German radar equipment in Holland. After the war he worked on tank radio sets for the Plessis Company and after coming to Canada in 1955, first for DND and then on the DEW line. Later he worked first as an employee and then on contract for Leigh Instruments and in an ironic twist, again for the Plessis Co. when they took it over and for Sensys and Gastops. Bob had an inventive streak and at least four patents bear his name. He loved to joke and many will miss his smile, limericks and puns. POFFENROTH, Walter Walter Poffenroth passed away at the Bethany Care Centre in Airdrie on Monday, July 14, 2008 at the age of 96 years. Walter was predeceased by his first wife Maria (Dippel) March 7, 1945 and by his second wife Irene of sixty-two years on June 20, 2008. Loving grandfather of David, Michael, John, Allan Jr., Jeff Lamothe and Judy Boucher, and David, Mathew & Allyson Boyle. Leo was great-grandfather to 19, and great-great-grandfather to two. Leo's professional career spanned some 47 years with American Optical, with 40 of those years as manager of the North Bay branch. In earlier years, Leo was a well know musician, performing with such groups as Nick Cangiano's Orchestra, Curly McFarlane and His North Range Coyboys, Vic Virgili and the Laurentian Valley Boys, the Northernaires, and the Alley Cats. He formed the Westernaires who were featured regularly on CFCH radio, hosted by John Size. The Westernaires also performed a weekly show on CKGN television, and played every Saturday night at McCoy's hotel. Leo was inducted to the Nipissing Country Music Association Wall of Honour, on Sept 27th 2003. Among his other passions were carpentry, animals, and gardening. His grandchildren always eagerly awaited the fresh carrots and berries he would pick. Family will be receiving friends at the McGUINTY FUNERAL HOME, today from 7 to 9 pm. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St Peter the Apostle Church, Thursday at 11:00 a.m. Internment at St Mary's Cemetery. OLEJNIK, Lucien - 1921 - 2008 Went to be with his Lord on Thursday, July 10, 2008 in his 87th year. Beloved husband of the late Kay (Kazia). Born on April 1, 1921 in Czestochowa, Poland to Wladyslaw and Wladyslawa (Odalski). Dearest father of Lucy Luxton (Peter). Loved Grandpa of Marnie Harasym (Lee) and Leslie Luxton (Mike Tarran) of Oakville. Cherished great grandfather (Papa) of Nicholas. Survived by his sister Modesta (Krysia) Tyrek and predeceased by his brother Ryszard. I must share the following with you. What joy! What wonder! After 26 years of fervent prayers by family, friends and church families we saw a true miracle. Never, ever give up hope for loved ones and others! A few weeks prior to his death my dad, Lucien accepted Jesus Christ as his personal Lord and Saviour. He asked forgiveness for his sins and thanked his heavenly Father for allowing his son to die on the cross for his sins. He surrendered his will and life completely to the Lord. What happened next? His entire personality and demeanor changed (360). His fear of dying was gone. He was anxious to go and be in heaven with his Lord. His fear of pain was replaced by a peace and serenity that only our Blessed Lord can provide. A huge smile appeared whenever he awoke. His eyes had such a loving warmth to them. His words were sweet and kind and he was so grateful for everything we did. He stated “I never knew I could be so happy to die.“ At one point he awoke and spoke to myself and his granddaughter about his heartfelt feelings for us. Oh how happy he was to be surrounded by family. What a blessed time we were given. All of the honour, praise, and glory belong to our Saviour Jesus Christ. Cremation has already taken place. A graveside committal service will be held on July 28, 2008 at 3 pm at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery officiated by our pastor, Pastor Bill MacLean. BAKER, Janet Carmen - Suddenly passed away at the Brantford General Hospital, Thursday, July 10, 2008 in her 59th year. Predeceased by her parents Leo and Fluorette Milks; wife of David for 41 years, mother of Cynthia and her partner Jack Truckle, Tanya and her husband David Lawrence, Jason and his partner Tracy, and Jessica Jean; loved and missed by her grandchildren, Cassie, Jacob, Jared, and Zachary. Sadly missed by her siblings Edna Ruck and her husband Tony, David, Claudette Boulanger and her husband Andre and Norma Gauthier and her husband Rob. Will be missed by her nephews, Vince, Thomas, Terry, and Sean, David Jr. and Michael. Janet was a long time employee of the John Noble Home in the Health Care Field. LAYDEN, Gerard (Gerry) - passed away the evening of July 2nd at home with family around him. Left with fond memories of a truly unique, lovable and often frustrating man are his wife Elaine; daughter Janice with husband Joseph & children Barbara & Christopher; son Andrew, his wife Brenda and their two daughters Jaimie & Meagan. Gerry came to Canada from Scotland in 1967. He worked as a painter at London Psychiatric Hospital for 18 years, then became a union staff rep of OPSEU in the Southwest Ontario areas of Windsor, Chatham, London, Sarnia for 16 years, retiring in Elliot Lake 6 years ago. A wake was held Monday July 7, 2008 for friends and family. A memorial service will be planned in early 2009 in Scotland which surviving family brother Pat & wife May; sister Pearl & husband Joseph, sister Celia with husband John, their families and Gerry's immediate will all attend to scatter his ashes. Gerry is predeceased by his parents, brothers Bill, Tom & Lawrence and sister Betty. It would have pleased Gerry to have any and all who knew him to raise a glass in remembrance. 11161491
