REID, Audrey May Passed away peacefully at home on Friday, July 4, 2008 at the age of 86 years. Audrey will be lovingly remembered by her children, Sandra (Bill Morrissey) Voronka, Richard (Patricia) Reid; grandchildren, Jiji, Melanie (Todd), Francie (Jamie) and one brother Ted (Millie) Howlett as well as numerous nieces, nephews, friends at Confederation Park Senior Citizens Centre and many close neighbors. She was predeceased by her husband Bill in 2005; brother, Robert in 2003 and grandson Michael in 1994. Audrey was a devoted wife. She was a member of the Rebekah's in Red Deer. In her spare time Audrey enjoyed crafts and dancing. She will be greatly missed. A Memorial Service will be held at a later date. BUCHANAN, Rena Mae 2008-07-11 (nee Jackson) July 28 1914 - June 7 2008 It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our Mother, Grandmother, Great-Grandmother and Great-Great Grandmother Rena on June 7th, 2008 at Marjorie Willoughby Snowden Hospice, Kamloops BC after medical complications. Rena was 93 years young, born in Eyebrow, Saskatchewan. A long time resident of Thunder Bay and later moved to Kamloops BC where she resided until her passing. A loving, caring mother who had a heart of gold. She shared her love, compassion and knowledge of life with everyone she met and touched. Rena loved to do crossword puzzles, create quilts with love, play bingo and shop at her favourite stores. Family was of great importance to her as "she was the glue that held the family together". She leaves to mourn her death 9 children, seven sons: Tom (Marge), Albert, Raymond (Evelyn), Keith (Colleen), Douglas (June) of Kamloops, BC, Harry (Sharon), Richard (Maureen) and two daughters: Mary Radford and Dorothy (Elwood) Venton, all of Thunder Bay, ON. She also leaves behind 29 grandchildren, 47 great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild, one daughter-in-law Margie, one sister-in-law Audrey Jackson along with many nieces, nephews and other relatives. She was predeceased by her husband Alfred Ellis (Stacey) in 1958, sons Ellis in 1988, Donald (Bud) in 1996 and daughter Esther Petrie in 2002. She was also predeceased by one grandson George (Rick) 2007, two sons-in-law George (G.T.) 2004, Roy 1988, as well as daughter-in-law Norma in 2002, six brothers and six sisters. Cremation has taken place. A Memorial Service for the late Rena Buchanan will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, July 18, 2008 in the Chapel of Harbourview Funeral Centre, 499 North Cumberland Street, officiated by Rev. John Schmidt. She will be laid to rest with her son Ellis in Riverside Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Rena’s memory to the charity of your choice.

DIAZ, Benjamin B. - St. Catharines, Ontario, Canada: Passed from this life into eternal life on Tuesday, July 1, 2008, three months short of his 73rd birthday. Eldest son of Emilio Carreon Diaz and the late Esperanza Belmonte Diaz (Kauai, Hawaii), he was born on October 8, 1935 in San Manuel, Pangasinan, Philippines. Devoted Husband to Paciencia (Paz) of St. Catharines, Ontario; Beloved Dad to Michael Anthony of Chicago, Illinois. Mr. Diaz is also survived by his brothers, Dr. Arnulfo Diaz, M.D. (Luz) of Kauai, Hawaii and Alfredo (Bobbie) of Port Charlotte, Florida; sisters, Purificacion (Larry) Dizon of Kauai, Hawaii, Theresita (Renato) of St. Catharines, Ontario and Rolinda (Felix) Deyro of Kauai, Hawaii; extended family members: uncles, aunts, cousins, nephews, nieces, and grandnephews/nieces. A mechanical engineer by profession, Ben (as he was affectionately called by relatives, coworkers and friends) was retired from Ford Glass Plant of Niagara Falls, Ontario. An active member of the Cathedral of St. Catherine of Alexandria, he was an usher, extra-ordinary Eucharistic minister, volunteer at the former Hotel Dieu Hospital and Shaver Hotel Dieu Rehab Centre, and former president of the Cathedral Legio Mariae Praesidium. On June 21, 2008, he was exemplified into the 4th Degree of the Knights of Columbus, Council 9222. A founding member of the Filipino Canadian Association of Niagara (FCAN), he will surely be missed by his many “kababayans“ and friends. WHALEN, Patrick Eugene - December 8, 1917 - July 10, 2008. Pat, or “Gene“ as many in his family knew him, passed away with loved ones by his side at his home in Goderich, Ontario. Born in Tweed, Ontario, Pat later moved to Belleville and then Windsor, finally settling in Goderich in 1969. Last surviving son of Patrick and Gertrude (McGrath) Whalen, he is survived by his sisters Rose Barber and Marie Kashlan, daughter Heather Lyons and spouse Wayne of Goderich, and five sons, James Whalen of Windsor, Dean Whalen and spouse Susan of Goderich, Kevin Whalen of London, and Chris Whalen of London, Shawn Whalen of Goderich, and grandchildren Haley, Spencer, Donny, David, Jared, Cassandra, Brittany, Lauren, Lindsay, Liam, Ryan, Alison, Victoria, Ian, Kimberly, Shon, Kerri, Michael and many great grandchildren. He was a veteran of WWII serving with the Canadian 3rd Division, Highland LIght Infantry. He helped to liberate France, Belgium and Holland participating in the battles at Falaise Gap, Boulogne and the Scheldt Estuary. He believed in peace and never forgot those who lost their lives in war. The fellowship he enjoyed through his community service will continue to be shared by his extended family. He firmly believed in the Higher Power as his Guide. Pat had a career in life insurance from the 1950s until 1993 when he “retired“ at the age of 76. At that time he was serving hundreds of clients primarily for North American Life Assurance which later merged with Manulife Financial. He was ever thankful to serve his clients, many of whom he regarded as friends. Ben was born on February 23, 1939, in Veregin, SK, where he grew up on the family farm. Ben sang in the Ukrainian Catholic Church as Cantor for many years, loved music, singing and playing the banjo. He farmed with his Dad and was in the hotel business for over twenty years in Springside and Sheho, SK. Ben was married for over twenty-five years to the late Susan Sakundiak, and pursued many business ventures during this time. Ben is survived by his four children and eleven grandchildren: Anna-Marie and Gordon Moellenbeck and their children, Matthew, Jordan, Josephine, Adam of Englefeld, SK; Andy and Judy Sakundiak and their children, Alison, Avrey, Arianne of Calgary, AB; Angela and Dan Frey and daughters, Danielle and Victoria of Brooks, AB; Adrian and Connie Sakundiak and daughters, Taylor and Morgan of Calgary, AB; partner, Linda Skibinsky, and her children, Christina and Billy (Tara); Ben's brother, Ed Sakundiak (Stephanie) of Calgary, AB; sisters Genevieve (William) Berezny of Yorkton, SK; Cynthia (Alec) Billy of Canora, SK; and many nieces and nephews. Eileen Gertrude Manderson 1919-2008 Mrs. Eileen Manderson, wife of the late John Manderson, passed away at the Miramichi Regional Hospital, on Monday June 30th 2008, at the age of 88. Eileen is survived by two daughters, Arlene Duguay of Miramichi, and Mary Manderson of Miramichi; three sons, Carl (Leila) of Miramichi, Wayne (Lynn) of Red Bank, and Michael; one sister, Clara Asoyuf, of Miramichi; six grandchildren; five great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Besides her husband, John, Eileen was predeceased by three brothers, Walter, Edmond, and Albert; two sisters, Annie, and Mary; one grandson, Christopher and one granddaughter, Sherry-Lynn. The family received relatives and friends at Northumberland Funeral Home on Tuesday July 1st, 2008 from 2:30 to 4:30 and 7 to 9. Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on Wednesday, July 2nd 2008, at 12 noon from St Mary's Roman Catholic Church with Father Jacques Landry officiating assisted by Father John Grattan. Organist Mary Butler accompanied the senior choir in the singing of the hymns 'Here I Am Lord", "You Are Near", "Songs of the Angels" and "Make Me a Channel of Your Peace". Readers were Eileen's grandson Dr. Kirk Duguay and grandson- in- law Pat Hogan. Trudy Walsh led the congregation in the Prayers of the Faithful. Active pallbearers were her grandsons Kirk Duguay, Todd Manderson, Jason Manderson; her great grandson Colby Tweedie and grandson- in-law Pat Hogan. ROGERS, CHRISTOPHER (CHRIS) LEE - The death of Chris Rogers occurred on Thursday, July 10, 2008, at the Saint John Regional Hospital from complications following cancer surgery. Born on October 3rd, 1957 in Saint John, he was the son of the late Louis and Jeannine (Kerr) Rogers of Fredericton. Chris was the youngest brother to Charlotte (Dale) Greer and Norman (Judy) both of Miramichi, Denis (Mary) of Moncton, and Kevin (Fran) of Quispamsis. He is also survived by several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews. Chris returned to Fredericton from working "up north' with the Hudson's Bay Company to take over the family convenience store on Hanwell Road. He expanded and operated the store for several years. For the last 7 years, Chris took pride in his work as groundskeeper for The Lynx Golf Course on the Hanwell Road. Chris was an avid golfer, gardener and pool player. He loved life and enjoyed planning many activities for his family and friends, who will miss him dearly. Respecting Chris' wishes, following cremation, a celebration of his life will be held by a gathering at McAdam's Select Community Funeral Home on Sunday, July 13th with visitation from 2 to 4 and a memorial service at 4 pm. BENSON, EMERSON W. - The death of Benson "EM" Emerson Ward formerly of Saint John West, husband of the late Dorothy Boyd-Merrill and Audrey Davidson-Larson, occurred on Thursday, July 10, 2008 at Loch Lomond Villa Inc. Born at Seal Cove, NB, he was a son of the late Calvin and Mamie (Wilcox) Benson. Em was employed as a crane operator with Saint John Shipbuilding until his retirement. He is survived by one son, Richard (Jean) Benson of Langley, BC; three daughters, June Armstrong of Fort St. John, BC, Lynne (Paul) Gallant, Brenda (Paul) Seelye both of Saint John, NB; two sisters, Georgia (Basil) Foster of St. George, NB, Emily Green of Seal Cove, NB; eight grandchildren, Gregory Benson, Karen Benson, Christian Armstrong, Jon Armstrong, Randy (Katrina) Gallant, Sherrie (Raymond) Gallant, Jason (Tammy) Seelye, James Seelye; six great-grandchildren, Tristan Gallant, Brodie Beyea, Paige Seelye, Matia Seelye, Samantha and Kristi Carvell; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by three sisters, Eleanor Matthews, Elsie Grant and Ethlyn Dakin. Resting at Brenan's Select Community Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (634-7424), with visiting on Saturday and Sunday from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. LEMIRE, Elizabeth (Liz) Ann (nee Clare) October 19, 1952 - July 7, 2008 Elizabeth (Liz) Ann Lemire of Calgary passed away peacefully, on July 7, 2008 at the age of 55 years after a twelve month battle with Leukemia. Liz attended Mount Royal College (1970 to 1972) and then transferred to the U of C where she received her bachelor of Physical Education in 1976. Her teaching career included Viscount Bennett, Van Horne Jr. and Sr. High, and St. Henry's Elementary where she devoted her time and energy to special needs students. Liz's love of family and friends brought out the best in her; whether it was organizing family events or special occasions she coordinated every detail. She loved her time at the Condo in Invermere, as well as her holidays in Kelowna and Sorrento. Sports were a major part of her life with Golf, Tennis, Volleyball and Bowling being weekly activities. To those of us who knew and loved her it was her wonderful sense of humour and the importance she placed on friends and family that will be remembered most. Her boys, her family and her many friends that she had made along the way, that is what was important to her. Upon her diagnoses with Aplastic Anemia on June 1, 2002 she decided to fight back. She helped set up and co-chair the Southern Alberta support group for Aplastic Anemia and Myelodysplasia. Liz will always be remembered for her incredible courage, strength, and positive attitude, especially during this last year. She has been a source of inspiration for her family and many friends. Liz leaves to mourn, her loving husband Mike and very special son Jamie. Also left to mourn are her father, Barney Clare; sister, Joan (John) Rouse; brother, Bob (Jan) Clare; Alice (Terry) Pashak, Ray (Anne) Lemire and numerous nieces and nephews. Liz was predeceased by her mother, Beth Clare; her father and mother-in-law, Barney and Scottie Lemire; brother-in-law, Paul Lemire and sister-in-law, Yvonne Stewart. WARD, Lloyd Frederick - Went to be with his Lord on Tuesday, July 8th, 2008 while on vacation in British Columbia. Beloved husband of Frances.
