Beloved wife of the late John Stephen. Loving mother of Glenna Reilly of Owen Sound and Eleanor (Jim) Purdie of Kitchener. Cherished grandma of Colin (Kelly), Kevin (Jodi), Scott and Peter and great-grandma of Maya Elizabeth Purdie. Also survived by her brothers Andrew and Matthew Lynch, both of Scotland, sisters-in-law Vivian Schopf, Vera Lettau and Pearl Stephen, and nieces and nephews. Predeceased by her daughter Elizabeth, son-in-law Jerry Reilly, sister Annie Docherty and brothers-in-law Alex Stephen, William Lettau, Addie Schopf, Harry Stephen and Donald McColeman. Wendy Lynn Kraft Posted 10 hours ago Feb. 3, 1961 - June 30, 2008 It is with extreme sadness we announce the sudden passing of Wendy Kraft on Monday, June 30, 2008 at the Hanover and District Hospital, after a short and courageous battle with cancer. Wendy passed away peacefully at the young age of 47 with family and friends at her side. She will be forever loved, cherished and deeply missed by her daughter Lacey (Rob) Fidler of Neustadt; extremely missed by her grandson Ashtin (her "sweet pea") who was the light of her life; mother Helen Kraft of Hanover; sister Sue (Gary) Kennedy of Winnipeg; and her very special “sisters,” Wilma, Mary and Margie. She will also be missed by nieces, nephews and her Goddaughter Jasmyn (her “doodle bug”). Wendy was predeceased by her father Merle Kraft, as well as her grandparents. Wendy was a very gifted artist, always making beautiful crafts for family and friends, her wreaths, dream catchers, glass and flower art have brightened many homes. We will cherish these special gifts forever. Wendy was a wonderful mother, Nana and friend. The kind you only get once in a lifetime, she was always there when you needed help or a shoulder to cry on. It's no wonder God felt the need to take her from us so soon, not just to ease her suffering but because she was truly needed as an angel. We would like to thank the doctors and nurses of the Owen Sound ICU, and Palliative Care in Hanover Hospital for their care. You are invited to a memorial service and celebration of Wendy's life on Friday, July 11, 2008, visitation at 10 am, service to begin at 11 am at Mighton Funeral Home in Hanover, followed by a luncheon at the Hanover Legion. Cremation has taken place. Memorial donations can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or the Crohn's and Colitis Foundation as expressions of sympathy.

She was a source of faith, love, and inspiration to all who knew her and learned about the value of prayer from her. She is survived by two sisters - Bonnie (Ralph) Gaetz, and Marg LeGuilloux; three brothers - Richard (Madge) McCaffrey, Jim McCaffrey, Tom (Lois) McCaffrey; brother-in-law, Jerry Strauss; and her sisters-in-law, Mary Milaney and Pauline Schneider. SMITH, Barbara 2008-07-11 Barbara Bernice Smith (nee Storry) With sadness in our hearts, the kind, gentle and warm woman who was our wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister and friend died peacefully at her home with family by her side on Wednesday, July 9, 2008. Barbara was born April 6, 1931 in Longlac, ON. She was the eldest child of seven siblings and this is where she began a lifetime of caring for others. She met the love of her life, Murray in Longlac where they married and started their journey of 58 years together. They made numerous friends and became proud parents to their eight children. Her family was her utmost passion. Barb will always be remembered as one of those rare people who was a comfort to be around. Barb had a great sense of humor and a heart of gold. She had an amazing artistic and creative flair which showed in the clothing she sewed, and the many carvings and paintings she shared with her family. She will be remembered by all as a kind soul who touched people’s lives in the simplest but most profound ways. She will be deeply missed and forever loved by her husband Murray, 3 daughters: Debbie (Heather), Cheryl (Roy) Nisula, Lucinda (Mark) Moland: 4 sons: Doug, Randy, Clyde (Christine), Bill (Kathryn); 13 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; 3 sisters: Fran, Tippy (Ernie), Amber (Ron); 2 brothers: Aurie, Leslie (Norma); and numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by son Malcolm; both parents Alma and Mason Storry; and two brothers Eugene and Carl. The family has chosen a Celebration of Barb’s Life to be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 26th, 2008 in the Chapel of Harbourview Funeral Centre, 499 North Cumberland Street, followed by a luncheon. Interment to follow in Sunset Memorial Gardens. Visitation for family and friends will be held one hour prior to the time of Service. BUCHANAN, Rena Mae 2008-07-11 (nee Jackson) July 28 1914 - June 7 2008 It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our Mother, Grandmother, Great-Grandmother and Great-Great Grandmother Rena on June 7th, 2008 at Marjorie Willoughby Snowden Hospice, Kamloops BC after medical complications. Rena was 93 years young, born in Eyebrow, Saskatchewan. A long time resident of Thunder Bay and later moved to Kamloops BC where she resided until her passing. A loving, caring mother who had a heart of gold. She shared her love, compassion and knowledge of life with everyone she met and touched. Rena loved to do crossword puzzles, create quilts with love, play bingo and shop at her favourite stores. Family was of great importance to her as "she was the glue that held the family together". She leaves to mourn her death 9 children, seven sons: Tom (Marge), Albert, Raymond (Evelyn), Keith (Colleen), Douglas (June) of Kamloops, BC, Harry (Sharon), Richard (Maureen) and two daughters: Mary Radford and Dorothy (Elwood) Venton, all of Thunder Bay, ON. She also leaves behind 29 grandchildren, 47 great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild, one daughter-in-law Margie, one sister-in-law Audrey Jackson along with many nieces, nephews and other relatives. She was predeceased by her husband Alfred Ellis (Stacey) in 1958, sons Ellis in 1988, Donald (Bud) in 1996 and daughter Esther Petrie in 2002. She was also predeceased by one grandson George (Rick) 2007, two sons-in-law George (G.T.) 2004, Roy 1988, as well as daughter-in-law Norma in 2002, six brothers and six sisters. Cremation has taken place. A Memorial Service for the late Rena Buchanan will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, July 18, 2008 in the Chapel of Harbourview Funeral Centre, 499 North Cumberland Street, officiated by Rev. Born in Sackville, NB on July 1st, 1927, she was the daughter of the late Amédée Babineau and the late Marguerite Boudreau both from Barachois. WHALEN, Patrick Eugene - December 8, 1917 - July 10, 2008. Pat, or “Gene“ as many in his family knew him, passed away with loved ones by his side at his home in Goderich, Ontario. Born in Tweed, Ontario, Pat later moved to Belleville and then Windsor, finally settling in Goderich in 1969. Last surviving son of Patrick and Gertrude (McGrath) Whalen, he is survived by his sisters Rose Barber and Marie Kashlan, daughter Heather Lyons and spouse Wayne of Goderich, and five sons, James Whalen of Windsor, Dean Whalen and spouse Susan of Goderich, Kevin Whalen of London, and Chris Whalen of London, Shawn Whalen of Goderich, and grandchildren Haley, Spencer, Donny, David, Jared, Cassandra, Brittany, Lauren, Lindsay, Liam, Ryan, Alison, Victoria, Ian, Kimberly, Shon, Kerri, Michael and many great grandchildren. He was a veteran of WWII serving with the Canadian 3rd Division, Highland LIght Infantry. He helped to liberate France, Belgium and Holland participating in the battles at Falaise Gap, Boulogne and the Scheldt Estuary. He believed in peace and never forgot those who lost their lives in war. The fellowship he enjoyed through his community service will continue to be shared by his extended family. He firmly believed in the Higher Power as his Guide. Pat had a career in life insurance from the 1950s until 1993 when he “retired“ at the age of 76. At that time he was serving hundreds of clients primarily for North American Life Assurance which later merged with Manulife Financial. He was ever thankful to serve his clients, many of whom he regarded as friends. Predeceased by his wife Alyce (Tykyna Rudychuk) Whalen and grandson Conor Whalen; and siblings James, Stella, Loretta, Cecilia, Clarence, Frank, Hester, Rita, Regis, Gerald and Lorna. There will be a visitation in Goderich at McCALLUM AND PALLA FUNERAL HOME, Cambria Rd. at East St. Goderich on Saturday July 12th between 2 and 5 p.m. Funeral Mass and Burial will be from Saint Carthagh's Roman Catholic Church in Tweed, Ontario on Monday July 14th at 11 a.m., with visitation at 10 am. BERNDT, Nancy Joyce At home, surrounded by the love of her family, on Thursday, July 10, 2008 at the age of 54 years. Beloved daughter of the late Lloyd and Joyce (Pat) Berndt of Thurso, Quebec. She is survived by her brother Daniel of Thurso, and sisters Debra, Maggie (Barbara Miller) and Marion all of Ottawa. Nancy was an avid horsewoman and proud to be a dairy farmer's daughter. Nancy is also survived by numerous friends in the Ottawa area horse community. The family wishes to extend a special thanks to Dr. S. Gick, Mary-Lou Anderson and Bonnie Nunner for all their kindness and care. HANSTEAD, Warren James (October 3, 1938 - July 8, 2008) On Tuesday morning, Warren passed away peacefully at the University of Ottawa Heart Institute, with his daughter by his side. Warren was born and raised in Kenora, Ontario. Warren was predeceased by his parents Bernice and Melcer, and his brothers Melvin, Bryan and Lloyd. Warren is survived by his wife Kendall, sons James and Michael, daughter Alison, grandsons Jacob and Peter, granddaughter Anastasia, sister Donna, brother Philip, sisters-in-law Marilyn and Sandra, and mother-in-law June Green. He will be greatly missed. The family will receive friends on Saturday, July 12, 2008 at McEvoy-Shields Funeral Home, 1411 Hunt Club Road after 10 a.m. followed by a Memorial service in the chapel at 11 a.m. Warren's cremated remains will be buried in his hometown of Kenora, Ontario. BARTON, Heather Carmen (nee MacRae) Passed away peacefully at the Foothills Hospital July 9, 2008 after a long illness. Heather is lovingly remembered by her husband Garry, daughter Chris (Keith) and grandson Austin. She is also survived by her sister Shannon (Ron), brothers Scott (Kathleen) and Ian (Colleen), nieces Alison, Brooke, Erin and Muira and nephew Teddy. She is preceded by her parents Miriam and George MacRae of Charlottetown, PEI. Heather was born in Pembroke, Ontario on September 30, 1951. She worked for the Bank of Montreal for twenty-six years, originally in Charlottetown before moving west and making Calgary her home in 1979.
