DÉJÀ 10 ANS CLÉO LACROIX Nous célébrons aujourd'hui ton anniversaire de décès. Tant de belles années que nous avons encore beaucoup de difficulté à oublier. Maman est toujours là pour nous protéger. Nicolas, lui, a beaucoup changé. Un p'tit joueur d'hockey, un p'tit clown. C'est comme si tu t'étais réincarné en lui. Il y a du monde qui la trouve vraiment bonne. Il y a aussi Mélanie qui attend un p'tit gars pour bientôt. Plusieurs fois dans une année nous discutons de toi, de ton côté comique, de la façon de te comporter avec tes amis, de la maladie qui t'a trop vite emporté. Nous avons appris à l'accepter et à apprécier la vie à son maximum. Tu nous as donné toute une leçon après tout. Bon repos à toi. WWII Veteran, retired civil servant, entrepreneur, past president and friend of his condominium association, and past president of Toronto chapter of FSNA. Beloved husband of predeceased Ruth Mary (nee Kennedy). Dear companion of Betty Grace Pick, father of James Hugh and Leslie John, and grandfather of Aaron Jay. He will be sadly missed by friends, associates and surviving members of our extended Bain and Pick families. THOMPSON (Allen), M. Joan Passed away on July 07, 2008 after a brief but courageous battle with lung cancer. Beloved wife of Clifford (Cliff) Thompson of 54 years. Dear mother of Reid Thompson. Cousin of Kim Abbot (Bunty). Sister-in-law of Ann Allen, Carol Armitage (Don) and Reid Thompson (Audrey). Joan was born in Ottawa and is predeceased by her father William, mother Gwendolyn and brother William. Joan was adored by her nieces & nephews Steven Keeler (Jane), Jeffery Allen, Kevin Thompson, Stephen Allen (Gloria) and Janice Devereaux (Mark). Also adored by great nieces & nephews Amy, Hannah and Nicholas. During her years in Toronto, Joan was active in the May Court Club of Toronto. In 1989 she moved to a farm south of Campbellford where she served the community through I.O.D.E., Meals on Wheels, Kent St. School Breakfast Program and the Chancel Guild of Christ Church Anglican Church. Lovingly remembered by her laughing Bridge Club. Cremation has taken place. OBITUARY KATHRYN (KAY) ANSON Died peacefully at her home on Monday, July 7, 2008 in her ninety-second year. Beloved daughter of Frank Harris Anson, founder and first President of Abitibi Power and Paper Company. Kay is survived by approximately sixty-five nephews and nieces, great, great great, great great great... living in the United States, England, France and Switzerland. Kay will be remembered by those who knew and loved her as having an energetic and fun loving spirit. She was a kind, loving and generous soul, who was a devout Anglican. She possessed a quick wit that guided her in what to do and say in any situation. Many referred to Kay as being far from what would be called your typical ninety- something year old. What Kay could accomplish in any given day or week would tire someone half her age. She had a vast historical knowledge, of which she was quite proud. Kay also possessed a great love, passion and talent for golfing and swimming. Among her many contributions to the Girl Guides of Canada, Kay was Captain of the 32nd Toronto Guide Company at St. Clement's Church. She also found the property for the Guide Camp at Doe Lake in 1949. Kay, we love and miss you. Your smile and generous spirit will be remembered always. BEATTIE, Douglas George Webster February 7, 1945 - July 7, 2008 Douglas George Webster Beattie, beloved husband of Frances, of Airdrie, passed away suddenly on Monday, July 7, 2008 at the age of 63 years. Douglas was born on February 7, 1945 in Broughty Ferry, Scotland. He completed his training and apprenticeship as a baker before immigrating to Canada with his wife Frances in 1967. They lived in Calgary for a number of years before moving to Airdrie in 1979. Besides his loving wife of forty-two years, Frances, Douglas is mourned by his dear sister Lily of Dundee, Scotland; his four children, Stuart (Pauline), of Beiseker, Brian (Kerry), Heather (Brad) and Alison (Robert), all of Airdrie. Douglas was a proud and caring grandfather to his beloved grandchildren, Mickayla, Daegan, Shae-Lynn, Kenneth, Kaylie, Bronsen, Rowan and Keira, who will miss their Grandpa and Poppa very much. BLOOM, Carrie Linnea (nee Silver) April 17, 1924 - July 5, 2008 Carrie Bloom passed away peacefully, after a lengthy illness, on July 5, 2008 at the age of 84 years. She will be lovingly remembered by her husband of sixty-one years, Art. She also leaves behind, Gerry (Peter Bailey) of North Wales, Linda (Jack Baugh), Diana (Dave Leslie) of Calgary and Dale (Denyse) of Vulcan, eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Carrie was one of eleven children of Ed and Hilda Silver; survived by sister Agnes (Bill Barnes) of Vernon and Ken (Janice) Silver of Calgary. Carrie was born and raised in the Manyberries, Alberta area. She served in the RCAF from 1943 to 1945 working as a hospital assistant, after which she met and married Art. They spent time living in both Edmonton and Calgary, finally settling in Calgary. At this time Carrie became a nursing aide. Carrie was a kind, gentle and loving soul who will be dearly missed by the family to whom she devoted her life. Many thanks to the caring staff at Southview, Bethany Care Centre. BURGESS, William John Thomas (Bill) March 27, 1928 - July 7, 2008 It is with great sadness that our family announces the peaceful passing of William John Thomas (Bill) Burgess, beloved husband of Jean Burgess (nee Randall) of Calgary, on Monday, July 7, 2008 at the age of 80 years. Bill was born in Sarnia, ON and lived the last thirty-five years of his life in Calgary. Despite having a stroke twenty-two years ago, Bill continued to live life to the fullest. Besides his loving wife of almost fifty-three years, Bill is also survived by his daughter, Pamela (Chuck) Morris, son Darryl (Susan) Burgess; and grandchildren, Krista and Scott Morris, and William and Caelan Burgess. CHAPMAN, Frederick Harrison September 15, 1929 - July 7, 2008 Frederick Harrison Chapman of Calgary, passed away on Monday, July 7, 2008 at the age of 78 years. Fred leaves his loving wife of fifty-two years, Frances Chapman; son Neil Chapman; daughter and son-in-law, Carol Chapman and Ken McBean; granddaughter Kiri McBean; one sister Joan Marshall; niece Karen Lyons; nephew Hal Anderson and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Fred attended King Edward, Mount Royal, Sunalta and Western Canada High School. Fred worked for RCA Victor in Montreal then The National Cash Register Company for sixteen years, three of which were spent in Dayton, OH, two in Lethbridge, AB, three in Red Deer, AB then twenty-seven years in the brokerage business "Richardson Securities" and "Richardson Greenshields Securities" in Calgary. McMAHON, Mary Johanna It is with great sadness that we announce the tragic and sudden passing of our beautiful daughter, sister, niece, cousin, and friend Mary Johanna McMahon on May 30, 2008 at the age of 42 years in Austin, Texas. Mary Jo was raised in Calgary, AB and after graduating from the School of Design, she left for USA and travelled abroad and internationally for almost two decades working in photography and as a stylist in the fashion industry. She worked with many celebrities and her work appeared in many fashion magazines. She was gorgeous, smart, sensitive, creative, lovable, so damn funny, and so fun to be with. She was classic, she was timeless. She was extraordinary, she is unforgettable. She loved her animals, slurpees, and Lyle Lovett. She loved to wear white t-shirts and jeans, and almost anything pink. She also loved living in Texas. She connected and touched many people and her loving friends all over the world are heart broken from this loss. Mary Jo was so greatly loved and will be dearly missed. Her time with us and for us was a gift from God. Mary Jo will be lovingly remembered by her father Peter of Calgary, AB, mother Arlene Schauerte of Creston, BC, her siblings Mark, Maggi, Paddy and Todd, her nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles, and her extended family KC, Mav and Carin, Kate and Dave, India and Jesse. PARKER, Thomas Gerald July 31, 1991 - July 5, 2008 Thomas, beloved son of Cara and Bryan of Calgary, passed away on July 5, 2008 in Grande Prairie, Alberta. Besides his parents he leaves behind his devoted sister Michelle (Jared Massey), his grandparents Myrt Johnson and Ted Bienvenu, Joan and Cliff Parker, and his closest friend Daniel Copping. He will be sadly missed by many cousins, other relatives and friends. He was predeceased by his grandfather Ron Johnson, and his uncle Alan Johnson. ROGERS, George John 1923 - 2008 George J. Rogers passed away July 4, 2008 surrounded by his loving family to join his wife, Helen Shirley Locker Rogers, who preceded him in death January 10, 1996. George was the son of Clarence and Mary Olive Lea Rogers of Calgary, Alberta, Canada, who preceded him in death. George is tenderly referred to as the best big brother by his two sisters, Marj (Ken) Shepherd and Doreen (Jeff) Carsten (Calgary, Alberta, Canada). George followed his father's footsteps and spent his life in publishing and print press, working for the Calgary Herald, Salt Lake Times and many other publications. He had an amazing ability to fix anything. George served in WWII in 1945. He was a part of the greatest generation serving in the Canadian Royal Army, a member of the "Princess Pats", in Africa, Invasion of Italy and the Monte Cassino Campaign, Holland, and stationed in Scotland. He had a life-long love of sports and a never ending thirst for knowledge. Survived by his four children, Diann (Jay) Harker, Wendy (Kemp) Butterfield, Mark (Becky) Rogers and Tara Ann Rogers along with his fourteen grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren. He also leaves behind sister-in-law Bev Sallenback, brother-in-law William (Phyllis) Locker, and several nieces and nephews. Dad, you will be missed beyond words. SMITH, Marlene June 10, 1942 - July 7, 2008 Marlene, beloved wife of Bernard Smith, passed away peacefully at Chinook Hospice surrounded by family. Marlene will be lovingly remembered and greatly missed by her husband Bernard; daughter Coletta; son Shane (Liz); grandchildren: Jenna, Taylor, Kristen, Trevor, Adrianna and James; and brother Raymond (Linda) Bednarik. She is also survived by brothers and sisters-in-law, aunts, nieces, nephews and cousins. Marlene will be missed by her second family of many bowlers over the years at Paradise Lanes. VOLLMIN, Keith Native Albertan Keith Vollmin said his goodbyes and later departed on the morning of July 7, 2008. Keith was known by friends and family to have a sharp humour and quick mind and all who knew him will remember his boisterous, unmistakable belly laugh. Keith will be remembered by his daughter Kimberlee, siblings Jackie, Sandra and Lee, father Robert, as well as by Miranda, Dale and other devoted friends and is predeceased by his mother Dorothy. Keith's love of laughter is made immortal in his grandson Finn and his passion for the design and mechanics of cars and trucks in his grandson Elias. Keith worked in and loved the oil industry since his late teens and often talked about how lucky he was to have forged some life-long friendships there. From his start in Pincher Creek this career also afforded him the chance to live and work in Russia which then became the beginning of a series of travels to numerous and varied locations around the world. Life was to be lived to the fullest; as he was fond of saying: "I have had a lot of fun!" WALLACE, Robert William (Slasher) September 29, 1925 - July 6, 2008 Robert William Wallace (Slasher) passed away on Sunday, July 6, 2008 at the age of 82 years at the Agape Hospice, Calgary, Alberta after a short battle with cancer. Bob was born in Calgary, Alberta. He is survived by by his loving wife Pearl; two children: Robert (Rose) and Bonnie (Bruce) O'Neil; four grandchildren: Pamela, Melissa (Patrick), Wallace and Mary, and his great-granddaughter Alexis. Bob owned his own business for thirty-eight years with Imperial Oil. Bob enjoyed a round of golf and Pearl and Bob wintered in Arizona for many years. HUTT, Phyllis Jean 1924-2008 At the Western Hospital, Alberton, on Tuesday July 8, 2008, of Phyllis Jean Hutt, beloved wife of the late Harve Hutt of Northport, age 84 years. Veteran of the Second World War. Born in Mt. Stewart, P.E.I., on September 5, 1924, she was the daughter of the late Alfred and Grace (nee Wood) Affleck. SICILIANO, John Paul 2008-07-09 1922-2008 Mr. John Paul (Jawbreaker) Siciliano, age 86 years, passed away peacefully on Saturday, July 5, 2008 in hospital in Niagara Falls, Ontario. John was born and raised in Thunder Bay where he was a life long resident until a few years ago when he moved to Niagara Falls to live with his son Gary and wife Gaye. While serving overseas in the armed forces during W.W. II he met his bride to be, Joan Rudland, whom he married when she came to Canada after the war. John and Joan enjoyed many holidays together, with Las Vegas being the destination of choice the majority of the time. He was a long time employee of C.P. Rail as a carman from which he retired at the age of 65 and took up residence at the nearest Tim Horton‘s, where he would pass the time with his old friends. John is survived by his sons, Trevor (Daphne) of Surrey, B.C., Roger (Dona) of Thunder Bay, Gary (Gaye) of Niagara Falls, John of Thunder Bay and Dale (Toni) of Thunder Bay, numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren and his sister, Jean Simmons. Predeceased by his beloved wife who passed away September 2, 1985, his parents and his sisters, Rose Kowalchuk and Phyllis Dziver. Visitation for family and friends will be held Wednesday, July 9, 2008 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Blake Funeral Chapel. OLIARNYK, Eugene 2008-07-09 Eugene Oliarnyk passed away peacefully at St. Joseph’s Hospital on Monday, July 7, 2008. Gene was born on April 17, 1923 in Fort William and was a long-time resident of Empire Avenue, then Garden Avenue and later moved to Chartwell. He worked for the 7 Up company for eleven years and then in 1963 he joined Great Lakes Paper and retired from there. He enjoyed traveling with his wife Olga, and when she passed away in 1986 he still traveled to many parts of the world with his friend Gloria Calanega. Eugene’s main interests were wood working and painting pictures of anything. He is survived by his special niece June Bryant (Cam) and her extended family, especially her grandchildren whom he loved like they were his own grandkids, Kayle Bryant and Alexiss and Nicholas Beitz; sister-in-law Anne Pelto and her family; Andy Lapa (Ernie) and family as well as many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife Olga (Lapa), his parents Nick and Anne Oliarnyk, nephew Kevin Lapa, brother-in-law Paavo Pelto, sisters-in-law Mary (Bob) Walker and Jean (Alf)Thomas. Funeral services for Mr. Eugene Oliarnyk will be held on Thursday, July 10, 2008 at Jenkens Funeral Home Cremation and Reception Centre at 11:00 a.m. Visitation for family and friends will be held one hour prior to service time commencing at 10:00 a.m. Memorial donations to the Heart & Stroke Foundation or the charity of your choice would be appreciated by the family.

GIBA, Derek John 2008-07-09 We are sad to announce the unexpected passing with family by his side, of a great father, son, husband, brother and uncle, Derek John Giba, age 48. Born and raised in Fort William at 828 McIntosh Street, Derek was an active outdoors man. When it came to camping and fishing at Whitefish Lake with all the family, biking, his yard work and cleaning, he treasured every moment of it. He had many jobs in his life, but he was most proud of being a sailor and a painter. He had a heart of gold, always putting family first but his favourite daily routine was “tea and toast with Ma”. No matter the weather outside, he would bike in rain or snow to see his girls and grand babies, even if it was only for a minute. He is survived by his loving mother and best friend Hilda Giba, daughters #1 Margie Giba (Byron Horton), #2 Jennifer Biley (James Biley), #3 Melissa Giba (Jason Dzijak), sisters and brothers Sylvia (Albert), Leonard (Rosa), Larry (Leanne), Rosie (Brian), Roxanne (Terry Sr.), Paul, Richard (Crystal), his number one reason to live, his grandchildren, Jada Biley (my baby) and Jesse-James Biley (my skinhead), mother of his girls Phyllis Hennessy, as well as many nieces, nephews and life-long friends. Derek was predeceased by father Louis Giba, sister Gladys, nephew Matthew and Trapper. A memorial service will take place on July 11th, 2008 at St. Peter‘s Church at 11:00 am, followed by a gathering downstairs.

DONAIS, Cyril "Zeppy" 2008-07-09 Feb. 9, 1928 - July 7, 2008 It is with great sadness that on July 7, 2008 the family of Mr. Cyril "Zeppy" Donais announce his passing after a brief illness. Zeppy had moved to Thunder Bay in the late 1950’s. The excellent fishing and hunting in the area helped him decide to make Thunder Bay his permanent home. Zeppy had spent most of his younger years sailing lakers on the great lakes. In his retirement years he spent time hunting, fishing and dropping the odd coin at the local casino. Zeppy, being one of sixteen children, is survived by brothers Larry (Gaynor) and Antoine; sisters Cecille Laforet, Jeaninne Ouellette and Doreen Trepanier; sisters-in-law Dorothy and Colleen and brothers-in-law Frank and Bernard as well as many nieces and nephews in the Windsor area. Predeceased by his wife Lucille, the love of his life; parents Philias and Melina (Breault) Donais; brothers Sylvio, Arthur, Eugene, Carl, Donald and Francis; sisters Lucille Garant, Anna Donais, Alice Donais and Emma Donais; sister-in-law Margaret and brothers-in-law Herman, Alvin, Zeppy will be missed by his family, friends and the coffee gang at the Adanac Hotel. Cremation has taken place and an informal celebration of Zeppy’s life will be held on Saturday, July 12, 2008 at Jenkens Funeral Home Cremation and Reception Centre, 226 S. THOMPSON, June - March 6, 1937 - May 5, 2008. Mom passed away unexpectedly Monday May 5, 2008 at St. Josephs Hospital, Comox BC. Mom is survived by her daughter Kathy (Steve), sons Stephen and Rob, daughter Penny (Matt) and her beloved dog Asha. Grandma is survived by her grandchildren Heather, Ryan, Jeffrey, Casey, Krista, Cody, Brandon, Mandie, Alexander and Lindsey and 5 great grandchildren. June is survived by her brothers and sisters Margaret (Alex), Mel (Faye), Shirley (Mayo), Barb (Ken), Gary, Mark (Donna), Gloria (Louie), Mike and many nieces and nephews. June was predeceased by her brother Bill, sister-in- law Marie and grandson Stephen Robert (Robbie). Mom recently moved back over from Port Alberni and was thrilled to be near her family again. She really enjoyed her grandkids, gardening, reading, a good British mystery and puzzles. The family would like to thank the nurses and Dr. Wale in the ER and Dr. Potter Gogan. MARTENS: It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our wife, mother, grandmother, daughter and sister, Agnes Aggie Martens on June 17, 2008. Aggie was born to John and Margaret Goerz and raised along with her 6 siblings in Altona, MB. While attending Winkler Bible School, she met the love of her life and future husband, David Martens. They were married on May 5, 1973 and welcomed two children Randy and Julie into their family. They enjoyed running their farm in Brandon, MB and working at H&R Block during the off season. Aggie was actively involved in volunteering with Christian Heritage School and teaching Sunday School at Richmond Park M.B. Church. She enjoyed playing the piano in her downtime, sun tanning on a warm summer day with a book in hand and capturing memories of her family and vacations in scrapbooks. She leaves to mourn and cherish her memory, husband David, son Randy and his wife Mandi and their children Brydon and Cassandra, her daughter Julie and her husband Noah and their daughter Madison, her father John Goerz and her two brothers and three sisters with their families. She was predeceased by her mother Margaret and her brother Peter. A Celebration of Aggie's Life was held on Monday, June 23 at Richmond Park Mennonite Brethren Church with Pastor Dave Ens officiating. Burial was at the Rosewood Memorial Gardens.
