Walter E. Adams 1925-2008 Miramichi - Walter Edward Adams, husband of Ida Adams, of the Mount St. Joseph Nursing Home, and formerly of Upper Black River, passed away at his residence, on Friday evening, July 4, 2008, at the age of 82. Born in Black River Bridge, on August 19, 1925, he was the son of the late George and Minnie (LaBelle) Adams. He was a retired employee of the Dept. of National Defense, working in the C.E. Section of the former CFB St. Margarets Radar Base. He was an adherent of St. Pauls Presbyterian Church, Black River Bridge. He is survived by his wife, the former Ida M. Sippley; two daughters, Lola Maahs, of Sioux St. Marie, Ont. and Marina Carroll, of Black River Bridge; five sons, Burns Adams, of Black River Bridge, Percy Adams (Theresa), of Black River Bridge, Carl Adams (Judy), of Miramichi, Jerry Adams (Karen), of Saint John and Freddy Adams (Donna), of Miramichi; one daughter in law, Theresa Adams, of Miramichi; one sister, Alice Williston, of Miramichi; 19 grandchildren; 21 great grandchildren; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by one son, Edward Adams; one grand daughter, Kathleen Adams Arsenault; three sisters, Rena Hamilton, Annie Adams and Eunice Belding; two brothers, Curtis and Gordon Adams. Visitation will be at Adams Funeral Home Ltd., 140 King St., Miramichi, on Sunday only, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm. The funeral service will be held from Adams Funeral Home Chapel, on Monday, July 7, 2008, at 2 pm, conducted by Rev. Derek Krunys. Interment will be in the Black River Community Cemetery. DANIELS, David Selwyn - peacefully on Friday July 4th, 2008 at the Belleville General Hospital, at the age of 87. Son of the late Joseph and Gladys Daniels. David will be remembered by his loving wife of 23 years, Shirley, and sons David and his wife Barbara, Michael and his wife Gail, and Mark and his wife Lila. D'abord professeur de français au Mont St-Sacrement de Valcartier de 1956 à 1974, il a été vicaire paroissial à Montréal de 1975 à 1978 et supérieur de la maison St-Hubert de 1978 à 1983. Vicaire à la maison Mont-Royal de 1983 à 1993, puis Supérieur à Sherbrooke de 1993 à 1995, il prit sa retraite, vécu paisiblement entouré de ses livres préférés. Dernièrement, son état de santé s'est aggravé subitement et il fut transporté à l'hôpital St-Sacrement. LITHWICK, Sidney 1921 - 2008 At the Ottawa Civic Hospital on Sunday July 6th in his 87th year. Beloved husband of Ida Witchel. Loving father of Howard Lithwick (Carol), Marilyn Lithwick and Helene Huot (Charlie). Adoring grandfather to Stuart Lithwick, Jonathan Lithwick, Brigitte Huot and Jeremie Huot. Predeceased by his parents Abraham and Dora Lithwick, his sister Sarah Green (Sid - also predeceased) and his brothers Norman Lithwick and Harold Lithwick. Sidney was one of the pre-eminent architects in the city of Ottawa with his firm having designed the Children's Hospital of Eastern Ontario, the Heart Institute at the Ottawa Civic Hospital, many of the schools for the Ottawa Board of Education, the Agudeth Israel and Beth Shalom Synagogues and the original Hillel Lodge. However, by his own admission, his number one priority was his everlasting and unqualified love for his wife, Ida and his family. Sidney was a long-time member of the Kiwanis Club of Ottawa (in excess of 51 years) and was the President of this Club in 1967; he always enjoyed the many service projects in which he was involved and, in particular, the serving of Christmas Dinner to senior citizens on Christmas Day. Sidney was a long-time supporter of the Ottawa Rough Riders and truly enjoyed attending games with his children and grandchildren - one of his great thrills was riding on a float in the Grey Cup Parade, in 1967, in his capacity as President of the Kiwanis Club of Ottawa. The Funeral Service will take place on Monday, July 7, 2008 at 2 p.m. at the Jewish Community Memorial Chapel, 1771 Cuba Ave. with interment to follow at the Jewish Community Cemetery, Bank St. Shiva will be held at Hillel Lodge. The family wants to thank the wonderful caring staff at the Ottawa Civic Hospital and Hillel Lodge. Thanks also to Rabbi Teitelbaum, Rabbi Rabinovitch and Issie Scarowsky, who lead inspirational shabbat services every week at Hillel Lodge. Sincere apprecation to Joanna Abrams, Marilyn Adler, Rosita Fajardo and Maylen Charcos who provided him with such all-encompassing care at all times, and to his wonderful business partner and friend, Harry Yates Sim. LACROIX, Emile F. - In loving memory of Emile F. Lacroix, 72 years, of Sudbury who passed away Thursday, July 3rd, 2008 at the Toronto General Hospital. Emile was born in Sturgeon Falls and married Sylvia (Lefebvre) in 1959 in Sudbury. Emile had been an inspector with Sudbury Transit having 21 years service retiring in 1987. He was happiest in his home. He enjoyed shooting pool, watching sports and reading his newspaper. He was well liked by his friends and he was devoted to his loving family. MOULTON, “Dolly“ Dorothy (nee Doughty) - In loving memory of Dorothy “Dolly“ Moulton (nee Doughty), 93 years, of Sudbury who passed away Friday, July 4th, 2008 at the St. Joseph's Villa, Sudbury. Dolly was born in Stoke-on-Trent, England. A summation of Mother's 93 years of life is an insurmountable task. Historically she was part of a lifetime of change: Women's right to vote, two world wars and a man landing on the moon. Mother was green before green was trendy; she would incorporate using teabags into her garden soil, eggshells into the rosebushes. Carefully unwrap Christmas presents and save the paper for next season. Stray cats and wounded birds would find their way to her doorstep. I believe sent by God for her gentle love and care. Music was a big part of Mother's life; she listened to Glen Miller, Tommy Dorsey, Bing Crosby, Frank Sinatra and in her final hour Perry Como. She gave advice only when asked for, and never reprimanded if that advice was ignored. Mother was a lesson on how to live your life . . . She found the good in people and quietly reminded you that if you looked you would find it too. She knew laughter was the best way to heal a broken heart, and a smile was contagious, she loved life and her family, and they loved her. FINLAY, William John - 1930 - 2008 Retired Vice President and Sales Manager - Strathcona Paper Company Bill passed away peacefully at St. Mary's of the Lake, in Kingston, Ontario on July 4, 2008. He leaves his wife, Marjorie Dibb, after 53 years of a very happy marriage. He is also survived by his brother, Edward and his children, Bruce (Marjorie), Napanee, Anne (Alan Kary), Toronto, Julie (Rod Lancefield), Kanata and Donald Finlay, Aurora, Ontario. Bill was a devoted family man, whose greatest joy was to be surrounded by his children and his grandchildren, the Lancefield boys, Andy, Bobby and Steven. The Karys, Abigail Joy (Abbie) and Sam, and William James (Jamie) Finlay. Bill was the fourth generation of a paper-making family and when the company was sold in 1974 to the Roman Corporation, it was the end of an era. It was the last of the independent family mills of its kind in Canada. Bill stayed on with the Roman Corp., as a Vice President and Sales Manager until his retirement in 1988. He grew up in the village of Strathcona and graduated from Queen's, Science '54 (Mechanical) and the Western School of Business, London, Ontario. Bill took a keen interest in Masonry and was a life member and Past Master of Union Lodge No. 9, Frontenac District. He served as District Deputy Grand Master in 1981/82 and for many years enjoyed the camaraderie of the “81ders“. He was a firm believer in Community involvement and for several years served on the Board of Governors of the Lennox and Addington General Hospital and was a past Chairman, he was the founding Chair of the Hospital Foundation. His Faith and his Church were very important to Bill and he attended and actively supported Trinity Church in Napanee for over 50 years. His sense of humour, quick wit and inexhaustible supply of puns will be sadly missed by all who knew him. The family is truly grateful for the support and care of so many, Dr. Sosnowski and Dr. Stewart, CCAC, St. Elizabeth Health Care Nurses and “We Care“ Health Services. PROCTOR, John Allan (Jack) July 21, 1931 - July 5, 2008 Jack Proctor, beloved husband of Elizabeth (nee Roche) of Calgary, formerly from Leader, SK, passed away at the Newport Harbour Care Centre on July 5, 2008 at the age of 76 years. Jack was born on July 21, 1931 in Winnipeg, MB. He was married March 29, 1951 in Flin Flon, MB to the love of his life, Elizabeth. He was dedicated to his wife and family. His smile and jokes will be remembered always. Besides his loving wife Elizabeth, Jack is also survived by nine children; Pat (Jim Offin), Penny (Stuart Seeley), Cathy (Gord Baglier), Josie (George Yearly), Jacky (Denis Heidenreich), Dominic (Laura), James (Leanne), Stephanie, and Greg (Staci). Jack is also survived by his brother Ken and sister Isabelle, as well as sixteen much loved grandchildren. He was predeceased by his daughter Joy and brother George. A millwright by training, an engineer by birth, and a mentor by nature, Jack was the plant superintendent at Dome/Amoco Empress plant for twenty-five years. AVIS DE DÉCÈS ALVIN FOSTER SMITH 6 juillet 1921 - 2 juillet 2008 Anciennement de Maniwaki, Québec, Alvin (feu Stella McAllister) s'est éteint paisiblement à l'hôpital Queensway Carleton, entouré des membres de sa famille. Il laisse dans le deuil ses enfants: Lola d'Ottawa, Jack (feu Reine-Marie St-Pierre) de Shawville, Bunny (Celine Dostie et feu Jennifer Smith, sa petite-fille) de l'Alberta, Pam (Bryan Hlady) de Dunrobin et Julie (Bernie Swords) de Kars. Le grand-papa laissera un grand vide dans le coeur de tous ses petits-enfants: Matthew (Dalia Platero) et Caroline Smith; Aimy Schamehorn et ses enfants: Britany, Taylor et Brennan; Amanda et Foster Smith; Steven Halady, Tara (Mike Jakubinek) et Liam Swords ainsi que Malcolm (Dominique Kennedy), Caleidgh et Alexandra McRae. Alvin restera tendrement gravé dans la mémoire de sa compagne des dix-sept dernières années, Aline Lapointe, et demeurera pour ses enfants et petits-enfants ce très cher "mon oncle Alvin”. Né à Maniwaki, Québec, Alvin y a travaillé sur une ferme laitière avec sa famille jusqu'au début des années 1960. Il s'est ensuite installé à Ottawa et a travaillé chez Brady Bros Transport et CP Express jusqu'à sa retraite, en 1986. Alvin et Stella chérissaient les moments en famille, et tout particulièrement ceux en compagnie de leurs petits-enfants. Ils donnaient généreusement temps et amour pour nourrir ces précieux liens qui unissent la famille. Nous garderons tous de merveilleux souvenirs des plaisirs d'été vécus au chalet, au petit Lac des cèdres. Dans les dernières années, Alvin aimait beaucoup jardiner, danser, jouer aux cartes, chanter dans la chorale de l'église St-George, sans oublier les fréquents déjeuners du week-end avec les «Kearney boys». Lorsqu'il allait à Maniwaki, il tenait réellement à passer du temps avec ses amis de la Première nation algonquine de Kitigan Zibi. La famille tient à exprimer du fond du coeur toute sa gratitude et sa reconnaissance au personnel des ailes C4 et D4 de l'hôpital Queensway Carleton pour les soins prodigués à Alvin. They were very giving of their time and love, nurturing family relationships. Summertime at The Cottage at Little Cedar Lake, Quebec will hold special memories for all. In his latter years Alvin enjoyed gardening, playing cards, singing in the choir at St. George's and frequent weekend breakfasts with the Kearney boys. When visiting Maniwaki he especially liked to spend time with his friends of the Algonquin First Nation of Kitigan Zibi. NEWFIELD, Anne 2008-07-07 Mrs. Anne Newfield, age 92 years, resident of Bethammi Nursing Home, formerly of 165 Martha St., passed away in hospital, on Sunday, July 6, 2008 with her family by her side. Anne was born in Emerson, Manitoba on July 9, 1916. She married George Newfield in Winnipeg, MB on September 5, 1940, and subsequently, they moved to Port Arthur in the early 40’s. Her main interest was her family. Anne is survived by daughters: Bonnie (Arthur) McKay of Thunder Bay, and Patricia (Graham) Shields of Essendon, Australia; five grandchildren: Michael and George McKay, Kim Shields, Jane (Nathan) Unsworth, and Kate Shields. She was predeceased by her husband George (1974), and son Allan (2000). Cremation has taken place and a Memorial Service will be held on Friday, July 11th, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. in the Chapel of Harbourview Funeral Centre, 499 North Cumberland Street, officiated by Rev. VIS,Tjikske (Theresa) 2008-07-07 Psalm 89: 1-2 I will sing of the Lord‘s great love forever; with my mouth I will make your faithfulness known through all generations. It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our very dear Mom and Beppe Theresa Vis. She was called to her Heavenly Home on Sunday, July 6, 2008 with her children by her side. Mom or “Beppe” as she was known to all was born in Goenga, Friesland, the Netherlands on June 10, 1916 to Aizo and Trijntje Elgersma. She married Dirk Vis on May 27, 1938 and immigrated to Fort William in 1951 with her husband and their nine children. Once in Canada their family continued to grow to 14 children. Her life was spent lovingly caring for her husband and children. She was always thankful for her family and the blessings God has given her. She spent many hours working in her garden growing much; knitting and crocheting for the less fortunate. She also enjoyed working with her friends at Hope Church every Tuesday morning sorting clothes, washing and mending for the Twice as Nice Store. Theresa was a member of the Hope Christian Reformed Church. “Beppe”, as she was affectionately called, loved the Lord more than anything- her hands were often folded in prayer or reading her Bible. Through happy and sorrowful times in her life she remained faithful to her God. Beppe was a godly woman and an excellent example to all of what it means to live for Jesus. She is now in the loving arms of her Heavenly Father. She was predeceased by her loving husband of 40 years, Dirk Vis, in 1979, infant son Tjamme in 1942, daughter Theresa Vis in 1982, daughter Amy Garton in 2008, son-in-law Michael Bewski in 2004, grandchildren Toni Boer in 1993 and Glen Boer in 1997, great grandchild Aaron Boer in 1987, parents Aizo and Trijntje Elgersma, 3 sisters Antje Kornelis, Aukje Elgersma and Akke Berger and brother Steffen Elgersma. A man of integrity and honesty, the strength of his character allowed him to always put others before himself. He served in WWII as a soldier of the Italian army for two years. Giovanni immigrated to Canada in 1953 where he married in 1956 and made many sacrifices for the betterment of his family. Giovanni worked for the Ontario Paper Mill for 32 years as a pipe fitter, a construction worker and a millwright retiring in 1987. Among his greatest passions in life were his family, gardening and being a handyman to all. Music, singing and dancing gave him great joy. He was our family champion card player! Giovanni was a devoted parishioner of Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Church, Thorold and a proud member of Club Capri.
