DE LUCA, Battista - passed away peacefully at the Woodstock Hospital on Thursday, May 8, 2008 at the age of 85 years. Beloved husband of the late Emma De Luca (1996). Loving father of Virgil of Calgary, Teresa and her husband Reno Boilard of Windsor, Ilda De Luca (Tim) of Oshawa, Michael and his wife Ann of Mississauga and Linda De Luca (Derek) of Toronto and father-in-law of Justine of Woodstock. Predeceased by his son Frank (2008). Cherished grandfather of Adrian, Justin, Matthew, Nathan, Daniel, Joshua, Emily and Austin. Survived by his sister Francesca De Luca of Pedace, Italy. Battista spent a major part of his life in Welland raising his family with his loving wife Emma. He worked and served as a custodian at the Welland Hospital for many years. His last 10 years were spent enjoying retirement and sharing in the lives of his children and grandchildren. Battista will be missed by all those who knew him. The family will receive their friends at J.J. PATTERSON & SONS FUNERAL RESIDENCE 19 Young Street, Welland on Friday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. where a Vigil will be held at 8 p.m. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church on Saturday morning at 10 o'clock. Ida Doris Gallant 1931 - 2008 Ida Doris Gallant, of Adamsville passed away with family by her side at The Moncton Hospital on Friday, May 9, 2008 at the age of 76 years. Born in Adamsville, NB on August 23, 1931, she was the daughter of the late Hector and Margaret (Arsenault) Cormier. Ida worked for many years as a special needs caregiver. She is survived by her husband of 57 years Robert A. Gallant; daughters, Brenda (Philippe) of Adamsville and Nancy (Alain) of Moncton; sons, Barry (Nancy) of Moncton and Brian of Toronto; sisters Rita and Eileen of Toronto, Ruth and Margaret of Moncton; brothers, William and Henry of Moncton, Tommy of Trenton ON, Eddie of Winnipeg, Charlie of Guelph ON, and Francis of Mass; also by grandchildren, Jamie, Monique, Mark, Stephanie and Bianca; and by great-grandson, Robert. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her sister Levina and her brother Robert. Visitation will be held at Tuttle Brothers Funeral Home, 171 Lutz on Wednesday, May 14, 2008 from 2:00 to 4:00 pm and 7:00 to 9:00 pm. The funeral service will be held at Tuttle Brothers Memorial Chapel on Thursday, May 15, 2008 at 1:00 pm with Rev. Paul Leger officiating. ORELIEN (ORIELLE) ALBERT De GAGNÉ Monday, May 12, 2008 It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of our loving husband, father, and grandfather, Orielle De Gagné, 76, of Fort Frances, Ont., on May 10, 2008 at La Verendrye Hospital with his family by his side. Orielle was born Nov. 21, 1931 in La Broquerie, Man. to the late Valeda and Odilas De Gagné. Orielle moved with his family to Alberton Township in 1935, where he grew up on the family farm. On July 31, 1952, Orielle was united in marriage to the love of his life, Pearl Plourde, and together they made their home in Fort Frances. Orielle started his working life in construction and then spent many years as a caretaker for the Catholic school board. He also served on both the public and Catholic school boards. Orielle was instrumental in the planning of Columbus Place apartments, where he was manager for 15 years until his retirement. Active in the Knights of Columbus, Orielle held positions of Grand Knight and District Deputy. As a member of St. Mary’s Parish, his faith was an important part of his life. Orielle had a great love for the outdoors, and he and Pearl spent many years camping and fishing at different spots throughout the district. Recent summers were spent at Oak Grove Camp, where they made many friends. Dad’s joy was sharing his love of camping with his grandchildren and time spent around the camp fires. He showed great pride in his grandchildren, always there to watch their many activities. Other hobbies included carpentry, gardening, and bird-watching. Orielle was predeceased by his parents; brothers, Laurence, Charlie, and René; sister, Lucille; sisters-in-law, Madelaine De Gagné and Rose Marie Ireton; brothers-in-law, Edward Plourde and Jean-Paul LaFleur; nieces, Caron De Gagné and Jana Rae Ireton; and nephew, Paul LaFleur. Orielle is survived by his wife, Pearl and sons, Randy (Cathy), Michael (Sheri), and Robert (Penny); seven grandchildren, Christina (Darren) Love, Ryan, Gavin (Danielle), Kalon (Susan Mercure), Joshua, Sarah, and Spencer. Also surviving are eight sisters and brothers, Felix (Elsie), Emile (Bernice), Edmond (Claudette), Lillian (Mike) Bodnar, Yves (Kathleen), Lorraine, Maurice (Patti), and Laura (Ron) Tausendfrende; sisters-in-law, Eleanor De Gagné, Mona De Gagné, and Sharon Plourde; brother-in-law, Ed Ireton; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, May 14, 2008 at 10 a.m. at St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church in Fort Frances. Fr. MUNSIE, Jerry - Of St. Catharines, peacefully, with family by his bedside, at the McMaster Medical Centre on Saturday, May 10, 2008, in his 41st year. Beloved father of J.J. and Zachary Munsie and step-father of Wendel and Ariel Grant. Loving companion of Melanie Shuker. Cherished son of Viola Munsie and the late Irwin Munsie. Dear brother of Walter Munsie (Peggy) and Shirley White (George). Also survived by numerous aunts and uncles. Born in St. Catharines, Jerry owned and operated DMZ Paintball in Thorold. KROEGER, Arthur Died of cancer with family at his side in Ottawa, Ontario, on May 9, 2008. Mr Kroeger is survived by his spouse, Huguette Labelle; his daughters, Alix and Kate; his stepchildren Chantal Labelle (and partner Paul Chambers) and Pierre Labelle; his granddaught-er, Catherine Labelle-Chambers; his brothers Nicholas, George and Peter; and his sister Anne (Dafoe). He is pre-deceased by his first wife, Gabrielle (Gay); and by his brother Henry and sister Helen. Born Sept. 7, 1932, on a farm in Naco, Alberta, Mr Kroeger was the youngest of seven children. The family were Mennonites who emigrated from Russia in 1926 and settled in Alberta. Mr Kroeger graduated from the University of Alberta with an honours degree in English literature in 1955, and was then awarded a Rhodes Scholarship to study at Oxford, where he took a degree in politics, philosophy and economics. In 1958, he joined the Department of External Affairs as a foreign service officer, serving in Geneva, New Delhi and Washington. From 1975 to 1992, Mr Kroeger served as a deputy minister in the federal government in six departments, including Indian and Northern Affairs; Transport; Energy, Mines and Resources; and Employment and Immigration. After leaving the government in 1992, he served as Chancellor of Carleton University from 1993 to 2002, where the Kroeger College of Public Affairs was named after him in 1999. He was also a visiting professor at the University of Toronto in 1993-94 and a visiting fellow at Queen's University 1993-2000. In 2000, he was elected an honorary fellow of Pembroke College, Oxford and received the University of Alberta's Distinguished Alumnus Award. He chaired the Public Policy Forum 1992-94 and was chair of the Canadian Policy Research Network and the National Statistics Council at the time of his death. In 1989, he received the Public Service Outstanding Achievement Award. He was made an Officer of the Order of Canada in 1989 and a Companion of the Order in 2000. He held honorary doctorates from the Universities of Western Ontario, Alberta, Calgary and Carleton. He was the author of two books: Hard Passage, about his family's experience in emigrating from Russia to Canada; and a forthcoming memoir about the definitive reform of Western grain transportation, which will be published by the University of Alberta Press next year. The funeral will take place at Christ Church Cathedral, 420 Sparks St, Ottawa, K1R 5A6 on Thurs., May 15 at 2pm. KNOX, VIRGINIA LOUISE (WIGGINS) - It is with sadness the family of Virginia Louise Knox, after a year long battle with cancer, announces the passing of their mother on Saturday, May 10, 2008. Virginia was a resident of the Hillcrest Village Seniors Complex in Saint John West where she had many dear friends and was a member of the Hillcrest Croakers singing group. Her daily dose of sunshine from Dot Roberge made Mom's struggle seem a little easier for her and her children. Virginia was born at Portland, Maine on October 13, 1927, and moved with her family to Young's Cove, New Brunswick when she was four. She is predeceased by her parents, Lawrence and Millie (Northrup) Wiggins; infant daughter, Louise; father of her children, Colby Knox; sons-in-law, Pat Stevenson, Lou Spinney, and Frank Little; and great granddaughter, Kayla. Viriginia spent 30 years in Lorneville where she raised six children and for twelve years ran Seaview Grocery where she made many friends and knew all the news of the day. She graduated from hairdressing school in 1948 and worked at Peggy's Beauty salon for many years. Virginia retired from Tabufile in 1992, and had a great knack for finding family ties and how everyone around her was related. Virginia is survived by her sister, Winnifred Trecartin of Saint John; special brother Ralph and his wife Fay of Young's Cove and their children Brenda, Brian, and Tracey; as well as great niece Taylor; her children, Karen Adams (Brian) and Allison Knox (Melanie), all of Musquash, as well as Cheryl Spinney Little, Robert Knox (Nicole) Leigh Knox, and Dale Knox (Wendy), all of Saint John; grandchildren Ryan Adams (Amber), Geoff Adams, Kerry Balemans (Jason), Ginny Knox of Calgary, Alberta, Andrew Knox, Rebecca, MacGregor, and Mallory Knox; and great granddaughter Darhyl Balemans. Virginia had a love for the game of crib, as long as there was a small wager, and when she ran the store, she was known to play for cakes and pies. Virginia enjoyed knitting and reading, and she also enjoyed and looked forward to visits from friends and family, especially nephew Harold. Resting at Brenan's Bay View Select Community Funeral Home, 1461 Manawagonish Road, Saint John West (634-7425), with visiting on Sunday from 7 to 9 PM and Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 PM. The funeral service will be held on Tuesday at 11:00 AM from Brenan's Bay View Chapel. A reception will follow at the funeral home. A family burial will take place in Young's Cove later in the day. Ted was born in Rypin, Poland on August 12th, 1920. He is predeceased by his parents John and Helen and a sister Joan. He was a life member of St. Joseph's Church, the Polish Mutual Benefit Society and the Musician Union of Brantford. He retired from Spalding Sports of Brantford. Ted was the founder and leader of the band, Swaying Brass that played in the Brantford and surrounding area from the fifties through the eighties. KAKSONEN, Tauno Antero - In loving memory of Tauno Antero Kaksonen, 91 years, who passed away at the Pioneer Manor in Sudbury on Saturday, May 10th, 2008. DENNIS RAYMOND PERREAULT Monday, May 12, 2008 It is with great sadness that the family announces the peaceful passing of Dennis Raymond Perreault, of Couchiching First Nation, Ont., on Saturday, May 10, 2008 after a courageous battle with diabetes and complications of kidney disease. Dennis was born June 29, 1973 in Fort Frances, Ont., where he resided most of his life. He was a beloved son, brother, uncle, grandson, and nephew. He is survived by his parents, Merle and Janice Perreault of Couchiching First Nation; two brothers, Derek (Andrea) of Fort Frances, Ont. and Brett (special friend Tanika Norman) of Couchiching First Nation; one sister, Denise (Darren) Bragg of Stratton, Ont.; and grandmother, Janet Perreault of Couchiching First Nation. Also surviving are three nieces, Samantha Bell-Perreault, and Hailey and Payton Bragg; one nephew, Corburn Bragg; numerous uncles, aunts, and cousins; and special friends, Bob and Carol Pollard. Dennis will be sadly missed by all. Dennis was predeceased by his paternal grandfather, James Perreault Sr.; maternal grandparents, Stan and Yvonne Walton; uncles, Jerry Walton and Bill Carmody; and aunts, Shelly Walton, Joyce Walton, and Jean Archie. Before Dennis became ill, he worked as a truck driver for Bob Pollard Trucking. He liked to collect many different types of transport trucks. He also loved the outdoors, especially fishing with his grandpa, which was a great joy of his life. Dennis loved to going to casino with his mom and Grandma Perreault. He had a great love for NASCAR racing, with his favourite being Dale Earnhart and collecting many memorabilia of him. Dennis loved to be with his family and friends no matter how he was feeling. Having family get-togethers was a big highlight in his life and he looked forward to them. Visitation will be held Tuesday, May 13, 2008 from 6:30-9 p.m. at Green Funeral Home in Fort Frances. He will be sadly missed by his grandchildren Josh, Jackie, Sean, Sasha, Shaelyn, James and Ryan. Survived by his mother Sadie O'Marra, brothers Cecil, Lawrence, Art, Allan and sisters Fern, Jean and Edie. Predeceased by his father Lawrence. He was a long time employee of Indusmin/Unimin Canada and a well known strawberry/raspberry farmer at Halls Glen for the last 22 years. Gerry had a real passion for curling and was a long time member of the Lakefield Curling Club. He loved teaching young people the finer points of the game. He never lost his competitive edge, even when it came to beating his friends. He will be forever missed. Friends and relatives are invited to call at the HENDREN FUNERAL HOME, Lakefield on Friday May 16, 2008 from 2-4 and 7-9 PM. A funeral service will be held in the HENDREN CHAPEL on Saturday May 17, 2008 at 2:00 PM. Interment St. Mark's Cemetery, Warsaw. Cécile Chiasson - À l’Hôpital de Tracadie-Sheila, le dimanche 11 mai 2008, à l’âge de 79 ans, est décédée Cécile Chiasson, épouse de feu Adolphe Bélanger, domiciliée à Baie-de-Petit-Pokemouche. Née à Haut-Shippagan le 8 juillet 1928, elle était fille de feu Léon Chiasson et de feu Henriette Mallet. Elle laisse dans le deuil deux fils: John de Winnipeg, Manitoba et Réjean de Saint-Zotique, Qc; sa nièce, Johanne (Jean-Yves Duguay) et leur fils Bruno-Pierre qu’elle adorait; quatre soeurs: Marie-Marthe (Alexandre Mallet), Estelle (Benjamin Mallet) et Claudine (Lionel Dugas), toutes de Haut-Shippagan et Alfreda (Richard Tardif) de Québec; trois frères: Léandre (Juliette) de Shippagan, Léonard (Thérèse) de Beauharnois et Claude (Joanne) de Shippa-gan, ainsi que cinq petits-enfants et plusieurs neveux et nièces. Une soeur, Josephine, ainsi que trois frères: Will, Alphonse et Livain, l’ont précédée dans la tombe. La dépouille mortelle sera exposée à compter de 19h, le mardi 13 mai, à la Maison funéraire Bulger de Shippa-gan. Les funérailles auront lieu en l’église Saint-Jérôme de Shippagan, le mercredi 14 mai, à 16h. Heures de visites: le mardi 13 mai, de 19h à 21h et le mercredi 14 mai, de 13h30 jusqu’au départ pour les funérailles. Un don à la Fondation des maladies du coeur serait apprécié.
