KATZ, William (Bill). Born June 1, 1928, passed away in Los Angeles after a battle with cancer on February 7, 2008. Son of the late Hyman and Gwendolyn. He is survived by his children Gary and Benita (Ottawa), Marla and Pat (Saskatoon), Heidi and Chuck (Montreal), grandchildren Jamie, Daniel and Jenna Katz, and Ashley, Courtney and Jared Tritt. He is lovingly remembered by his brother and sisters; Doris and the late Morry Struzer (Toronto), the late Ruthie and Maxie Rosenbloom (New Hampshire), Judy and Nat Creatchman, and the late Joseph Shapiro (Toronto), the late Manny and the late Lynn, Oscar and Belle (Houston), Rosie and the late Harold Glagow (Florida); and many nieces and nephews. EMBELTON, DELMER H. - At the Aroostook Medical Centre, Presque Isle, ME, May 9, 2008, Mr. Delmer H. Embelton of Presque Isle passed away at the age of 70 years. He was the husband of Marie (McCarthy) Embelton. Born at California Settlement, NB, in 1938, he was a son of the late Grafton LeRoy and Kathleen (McCarthy) Embelton. Delmer was a 3rd degree member of the Knights of Columbus with 20 years service. He was a retired Presque Isle Police Officer. After retirement, he worked as an S.A.D. 1 School Bus Driver, a Deputy Sheriff and a School Crossing Guard. He was a 40-year member of St. Mary's Catholic Church. He loved family, friends, golfing, Red Sox, woodworking, puttering around the house, putting on meals and especially his grandchildren. He is survived by his wife, four children, Michael (Mary) of Middleboro, MA, Hubert (Cindy) of Hermon, ME, Todd (Rhonda) of Squapan Lake, ME and Della Grass (Troy) of Mars Hill, ME; fifteen grandchildren, Teonna, Shane, Jared, Kyle, Devin, Kara, Carter, Rebecca, Delaney, Matthew, Kristen, Mackayla, Jordyn, Chandler and Melisa; three great grand children, Hayden, Jacob and Abbie; two sisters, Norma Langer and Maxine Theriault of Ocala, FL, as well as nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by an infant daughter, Lana; three brothers, Norris, William and Leigh. Resting at O'Regan's Funeral Home, 515 Everard Daigle Blvd., Grand Falls with visiting hours Tuesday, May 13th from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. (AST). MOAR, Alvin Roy May 4, 1918 - May 9, 2008 Alvin Roy Moar, beloved husband of Marion Alice (Wright) Moar of Calgary passed away on Friday, May 9, 2008 at the age of 90 years. Alvin was born in New Perth, P.E.I. and traveled west to Calgary in 1947. He served in the Armed Forces in 1941 and was awarded a War Medal before he was honorably discharged. Alvin started and was a partner in his own company Moar Construction in 1968. He retired in 1983 where he enjoyed camping, an Alaskan Cruise and having coffee daily with the "Over The Hill Club" at the Brentwood Co-op. Alvin had a large circle of friends with whom he enjoyed many happy times. He was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 264 since 1981. Alvin married Marion in Calgary on May 21, 1953 and they have had fifty-four wonderful years together. He will be sadly missed by his wife Marion and five children Susan (Joe) Thivierge of Calgary, Sharon Moar of Whitehorse, Doug (Cathy) Moar of Calgary, Don Moar of Calgary, Bill Moar (Dianne LaBlanc) of Calgary. Alvin is also survived by his cherished grandchildren, Kelsey, Erik and Kerry Moar of Calgary, Megan Mills of Whitehorse and four step-grandchildren Jason (Pamela) and Chelsea (Doogie) Thivierge of Montreal, Jamie and Bradley of Calgary and two step-great-grandsons. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews in P.E.I., Alberta and B.C. Our family wishes to express its deepest appreciation for the care and assistance by the very enabled paramedics, doctors and nurses of the Foothills Hospital. Grace was born in Delburne, AB to Dennis and Irene Blair. She had a very full and busy life. Grace enjoyed many good times at Confederation Park Seniors. Her real passion was quilting and her many beautiful quilts are admired by all. Grace was an enthusiastic member of Heritage Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution (D.A.R.) and also a life member of the Royal Purple, (Elk's Club). Beloved son of Gilbert and Annette (nee Horne) Doré of Hanmer. Loving brother of Barbara (husband David Ballantyne) of Val Caron. Favorite uncle of Hannah and Erin. Dear grandson of Vi Horne of Capreol. His short but fulfilling career ended much too quickly. A member of the Roman Catholic faith, Ted enjoyed coaching hockey for many years but his main passions were fishing and being with his friends. HOOKER, E. William (Bill) August 23, 1920 - May 9, 2008 Bill died at the Foothills Hospital on Friday, May 9, 2008 after a long and difficult illness. Bill was born in Brownsville, Quebec and spent his youth at Lachute, Quebec. In 1941, he joined the R.C.A.F. and at discharge had attained the rank of Pilot Officer, Flight Engineer. For many years, Bill worked as a landman for Gulf Oil. When he was well, he enjoyed bridge and dancing (which he did very well.) He loved his home and was extraordinarily good at maintaining it. Daughter of the late Thomas and Ida (Stone) Fee of Holland Centre, Ontario. Predeceased by her loving husband Jim Morris (1992), and by her four brothers and six sisters. Dear mother of Robert (Mary Kay nee Hicks) of Napanee, Wesley (Claudia Elliott) of Parry Sound, Marjorie of Welland, and David (Elizabeth McKinlay) of Owen Sound. Loving and cherished grandmother of Kieran Morris (Nathalie Larose), Ed Morris (Carin DeSimone), Rachel Morris (Michael Barnes), Ausi Elliott Morris and Skei Elliott Morris. Great-grandmother of Jonah and Mirabelle Barnes. Mary moved to the Niagara Peninsula in 1931 to teach at S. S. # 7, Willoughby Township. Following her marriage in 1936 to Jim Morris, she became a full time homemaker and a very devoted wife and mother. She loved the outdoors and when she wasn't busy in the kitchen, she could usually be found in the garden, pulling weeds or harvesting the bounty of the land. She spent many happy family vacations at LaBrash Lake, Parry Sound, watching her family play in the water, fishing with her husband, and sharing in extended family visits. Mary was a faithful and committed member of Lyons Creek United Church for over 70 years. SMITH, Ruth (Nigen) January 21, 1917 - May 11, 2008 Ruth (Nigen) Smith passed away peacefully at the age of 91 years on Sunday, May 11, 2008. Ruth was born on January 21, 1917 in New York to Jacob and Fanny (Rubenstein) Nigen. She grew up in the Bronx and Washington Heights with her three older brothers, Neil, Joseph, and William. Ruth had no dream of moving to Calgary, Canada until she met and married her Canadian husband, Billy Smith in 1938. Ruth then became a member of "The Smith/Shumiatcher" family because Billy (deceased 1967) was one of eleven children (Abe, Eva, Morris, Annie, Harry, Sara, Ethel, Fanny, Bessie, Bella) born to Chasia and Judah Shumiatcher. Until her death, she became the last living Aunt and Matriarch of the Smith/Shumiatcher family. When Ruth's husband Billy was alive, she worked side by side with him in a heritage landmark news and novelty store called "Billy's News" where she was affectionately addressed as "Mrs. Billy". Daughter Janice was born in 1941, to be followed by a second daughter, Sylvia born in 1946. After husband Billy's passing in 1967 Ruth became a "single" working mother, by becoming a Customs Officer in a family business familiarly known as United News. She worked for twenty-five more years until she retired at age seventy-five. Ruth explained that until computers took over, she single-handedly and without one single error, cleared every magazine herself. Ruth continued to work even after surviving the tragic deaths of her two daughters, Sylvia who passed away in April 1980, to be followed by Janice's death in April of 1995. Ruth will be forever loved, remembered and missed by many friends and family who appreciated her wit, humour, intelligence, wisdom, generosity, emotional fortitude and for being an upstanding and highly regarded true "woman of valour". Funeral Services will be held at the Beth Tzedec Synagogue (1325 Glenmore Trail S.W.) today, Tuesday, May 13, 2008, 1:00 p.m. Graveside Service to follow at the Jewish Cemetery (30 Avenue and Erlton Street S.W.).
