McKINNON, Allister Hugh - Passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday, May 6, 2008 at the age of 70. Beloved husband of Madeleine for 48 years. Loving father of his seven daughters Karen (Dale), Allison, Charlene, Sheena, Carolynn (Dwayne), Janet (Dean) and Esther. Grandfather of Shane, Devon, Bradley, Dylan, Logan, Jacob, Garth, Desiree, Garrett, Britney, Courtney, Brock, Vanessa, Natalie, Katie, Ashleigh and Ryan. HUNT, James (1925-2008) - It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of James Hunt, beloved husband and best friend of Jean. Peacefully and surrounded by his family at the Hamilton General Hospital on Friday, May 9th, 2008 after a brief illness in his 83rd year. James was employed by General Motors of Canada in security for 37 years. Along with his wife, Jean, he is survived by his children Joan (Mel) England, Susan Dominey, Gillian (Jim) Gregory, Jim Jr. (Sue), John (Rosana), Ruth (Herb) Vandermeer. He is lovingly remembered by his grandchildren Kenny, Rachel, Mel Jr., Larry, Karen, Trevor, Jaime, Jennifer, Brett, James, Deanna, Stacey and Andrew and by great grandchildren Bailey, Chase, Crystynia, Brandon, Gabriel, Mackenzie, Cameron, Carter, Hunter, Corey, Colby and Quinlan. SANDOLA, (Grottola) Maria - At the Greater Niagara General Hospital on Saturday, May 10, 2008 in her 85th year, was taken by the Angels peacefully with her family at her side. Dear wife of the late Biagio Sandolo (2002). Mother of Nancy Settanni and her husband Joe, Frances Lamascese and her husband Tony. Grandmother of Vicand Tracy Lamacese , Bill and Sarah Lamascese, and Steve Lamascese, Antonietta Mannella, Anna Maria Settanni, great grandmother to Lucas and Alyssamaria Mannella, Teo Biagio, Jake Lamascese, and Michael Anthony Lamascese. Survived by her sister Rosa, and her brothers Vincenzo and Rafaele. Mrs. Sandolo was born on January 1, 1923 in Zuppino Italy to her parents Francesco and Iuliano Grotta. Maria also had a twin brother Rocco. Maria immigrated to Canada in 1955 with her daughters Nancy and Frances. Maria was employed at Mr. Rosehope's farm, and also in a rag shop, Hotel Chambermaid, Kitchen on Clifton Hill, and Chefboyardee. Maria enjoyed tending her garden and baking cookies. She will be sadly missed. MOCHA, William “Bill“ - Passed away peacefully, with his family by his side on Saturday, May 10, 2008, at the St. Catharines General Hospital, in his 90th year. Beloved husband of 63 loving years to Mildred. Cherished father of Patricia of Kitchener and Donna (Gary) Martens of St. Catharines. Special grandfather of Christopher and Matthew. Brother of Stella Tapak and Paul (Georgina) of Thunder Bay. Brother-in-law of Theresa Mocha and Aileen (Tom) Murray of Toronto, he is also survived by many nieces and nephews. Bill is predeceased by his daughter Joanne, his brothers Peter, John and his sister Jean. Bill came to St. Catharines to play hockey for the St. Catharines Saints in 1938. Bill worked at General Motors for 45 years, retiring in 1985. He was also a long time member of CAW. Bill will be fondly remembered and missed by his family and many friends. Loving wife of her late husband Richard Hamilton Merritt Seymour (1998). Much loved Mother of Carolyn Locke (Ottawa), Jim (deceased), Ward (Lori) Seymour of Aurora, Marion (Kerry) Lichty and Rick (Kathy) of St.Catharines. She is leaving behind nine loving grandchildren Tom, Jeffrey, James and Michael Seymour, Meredith, Will and Drew Lichty, Madison and Gregory Seymour; and her beloved canine companion Molly. Ransom Samuel Joy died peacefully at Tri-Town Extendicare Nursing Home in Haileybury surrounded by his loving family on April 30, 2008 at the age of 83. Born in Kenabeek on September 22, 1924, Mr. Joy had served with the Canadian Armed Forces during World War II. He worked as a Heavy Equipment Operator for the Ministry of Transportation of Ontario until his retirement. He is remembered by his family as a quiet and patient man who loved his family dearly. He enjoyed playing cards and always had a good sense of humour. Mr. Joy was predeceased by his parents Albert and Ethel Joy; and his wife Mildred (nee Coe) . Marie-Jeanne Roberge Chartrand, on April 30, 2008, died at Tri-Town Extendicare in Haileybury. She had been ill for a few months. She was born in Belle Vallée on August 7, 1922 to Oscar Roberge and Alma Houle and was raised by Joe and Emma Ethier. Educated in Belle Vallée, she married Valère Chartrand there on November 26, 1941. She and her husband were farmers in Thornloe from 1941-72, then moved to Earlton for their retirement. Mrs. Chartrand loved to play cards and bingo. She is survived by her daughters Fernande Godmaire (friend Jean-Yves) and Gertrude Rivard; sons Roland (wife Lise) and Conrad (wife Suzanne) ; 12 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren; and her sister Soeur Yvette Roberge de la Providence. Mrs. Chartrand was predeceased by her husband Valère in 1973. The funeral was arranged by McDonald Funeral Home in Englehart with the service conducted May 3 by Father Marcel Bruneau at St. Jean Baptiste Church in Earlton. Pallbearers were Luc Rivard, Etienne Chartrand, Véronique Chartrand, Martin Godmaire, Doris Chartrand and Garry Bennett. Burial is at the Earlton Cemetery. Englehart resident Jean Evelyn Mitchell died May 3, 2008 at the Englehart and District Hospital. She had been ill for two years. She was born in Cane Township September 15, 1931 to Jean and Frank Johnston. Educated in Cane Township and New Liskeard, she married Glenn Franklin Mitchell in Englehart June 20, 1951. Mrs. Mitchell worked at the CIBC bank and at the Timiskaming Housing Authority. She loved family life, laughter and being at the cottage. She was also a member of the Presbyterian Church. Mrs. Mitchell is survived by her son Steven (wife Nicole) of New Liskeard; grandsons Chris of New Liskeard, Curtis and Craig of Mississauga; great-granddaughter Kaydin of New Liskeard; brothers Bill Johnston (wife Barb) of Tillsonburg and Ed Johnston of Fergus; sisters Anne Lacarte (Barry) of Earlton and Betty Pearson of Englehart. She was predeceased by her husband Glenn Mitchell, parents Frank and Jean Johnston, brothers Clyde and Les Johnston, sisters Norma Johnston, Shirley Cote and Lil Porter, and many nieces and nephews. Dennis George Matton After a long and courageous battle with cancer, Dennis George Matton died at the age of 50 on May 4, 2008 at the Temiskaming Hospital. He was born in New Liskeard on January 2, 1958 to Albert and Olive Matton. He had worked at Wabi Iron until his illness. Mr. Matton was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting, fishing and good times with his family and friends. He had been very involved with minor hockey and helped out with many fundraising initiatives. He will be remembered as a devoted husband and father and will be sadly missed. STUBBS, LOIS MARGARET - It is with a sense of profound sadness that the family of Lois Margaret Stubbs announces her sudden and unexpected death at the Saint John Regional Hospital early on the morning of May 11, 2008. Born at Saint John, she was a daughter of the late Vernon and Ada (Shay) Pitt. Even in her 94th year, her sparkle and enthusiasm shone through, and she could still be counted on to put us in our place if she felt it was needed. In earlier days our Mother took the game of Bridge quite seriously and for many years would never miss her Bridge Club night. She was a Past Chief of Martello Temple #25, Pythian Sisters, as was her mother before her. She was honoured to have received her 40 year Service Pin. Besides her family she treasured her home at Ketepec on the Westfield Road from where she admired the beautiful view of the Saint John River. She will be missed by her pet cat who now will be spoiled by her grand daughter, Celina. Wonderful summers were spent boating on the "Flora Jean" with her husband, Ron. This was a shared passion always remembered by her after Dad's passing. Although her place in our homes will now be empty we keep her forever in our hearts. Lois is survived by her children, Arlene Hayward (Donald), James Stubbs (Beatrice), and Phillip Stubbs (Deborah), all of Westfield Road; a daughter-in-law, Betty Barker of Bathurst; a sister, Helen Hacala (Harry Wilson) of Rothesay; nine grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and two nieces. Lois was predeceased by her first husband, John Barker, who was killed in action during World War II; her second husband, Ronald Stubbs; a son, William (Bill) Barker; and a brother, Donald Pitt. BATEMAN, John Wilbur 1920-2008 - Peacefully at the E.J. McQuigge Lodge in Cannifton under the attentive care of his caregivers on Saturday May 10, 2008 in his 89th year. Wilbur was the eldest child born to the late Ernest and Florence Bateman. He was predeceased in January 2007 by his beloved wife Ethel (nee Hagerman) of 62 years. Wilbur was the proud father of sons Harold (Sharon), Tweed and John (Valerie) Odessa and one daughter Mary (Jim) Fargey also of Tweed. He was the devoted grandfather of: Patricia (Larry), Christopher (Jody), Jeffrey (Andrea), Brooke (Joshua), Jennifer (Fred) and David as well as being great grandfather to Coralyn, Garett, Madison, Tori, and Reid. Also surviving are his brother Donald (Irene) and sister Margaret (late Laurison) of Belleville; brother Scott (Doris) of Napanee; brother Ray (Darlene) and sister Doris (Warren) of Mississauga. He was brother-in-law to the late Lorne and Margaret Hagerman of Stirling. He will be fondly remembered by many nephews, nieces, relative and friends. Wilbur received his life membership with the Oddfellows Lodge in 2000. He was fortunate to have spent his last few years in the care of loving and dedicated caregivers at Caressant Care Retirement Home in Marmora and most recently E.J. McQuigge Lodge in Cannifton. BROWN, Jacqueline Beatrice - It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Jacqueline Beatrice Brown nee Clusieau on May 10th, 2008 with family by her side. Born in Detroit in 1928 Jackie is survived by her loving sisters, Lucille Cummings of Ottawa, Raymonde Hrynuik of Ottawa, Rochelle Martin of Val Caron and Paulette Brown (David) of Barrie and brother, Guy Clusieau (Ann) of Mississauga. She was predeceased by her sister, Lorraine Danton. Jackie married Vern Brown in 1953, whom she was devoted to until his death in 2005 and with whom she had her cherished children, Karen (Gerald) of Lamont, Alberta and Wayne (Nancy), of Timmins. The lights of Jackie's life were her two grandsons, Samuel and Harrison Brown, who will always hold their Memere's love in the hearts. Jackie's relatives by marriage and her nieces and nephews and their children were all touched deeply by her goodness and will remember her most fondly. Jackie's many friends remember her for her selflessness and generosity of spirit and for her loves and passions which included her music, the U.S.A., playing golf and cards, and Tiger Woods. KIERSTEAD, VIOLET E.- The death of Mrs. Violet E. (Evans) Kierstead, wife of the late Charles C. Kierstead, of Saint John West occurred at her residence on May 9, 2008. Born in Saint John on May 8, 1912, she was the daughter of the late Oliver and Anna (Moore) Evans. Mrs. Kierstead was also known as "Toots" or "Tooie" Kierstead. Mrs. Kierstead was a hands-on owner of the Kierstead Trailer Park since the early '50s, just selling the business in 2005. She was also very active with the Carleton Curling Club. She was a loving, giving, and kind woman for family and friends. The "candy / fairy lady" was known to all the neighbourhood children. Any time of the day, Toots' policy was open door with lots of candy. She is survived by her sister, Florence "Billie" Burns of Saint John; two nephews, Donald (Nancy) Burns of Calgary, AB, and Robert (Claire) Burns of Richmond Hill, Ontario; one niece, Heather-Anne (Ken) Klein of Peachland, BC, and several great-nieces and great-nephews. Helen Morrisey 1926 - 2008 Helen Morrisey, 81, of Forest Dale Home, Riverside-Albert passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 10, 2008 at the Moncton Hospital with her family by her side. Helen was born in Harvey, Albert County, N.B. on July 6, 1926. The daughter of the late Roland and Hazel (Anderson) Smith. Helen worked in different Special Care Homes, last working at Elderkin's Special Care home in Riverside-Albert. She was a housewife and mother. She cherished the times spent with her family. She will be deeply missed by her two sons, Michael (Susan) of Riverside-Albert, Curtis (Jeannie) of Petitcodiac and by her precious grandchildren. She will also be missed by her sisters and brothers; several nieces and nephews; and by her extended family of Forest Dale Home. Besides her parents she was predeceased by her beloved husband James and by a son Samuel. Honoring her wishes there will be no visitation.
