LONG, Mary Elizabeth (nee Holden). Having led an enjoyable life, Mary passed away peacefully in her sleep May 4 at the age of seventy-eight. Predeceased husband John, son Stephen and daughter Susan. Mary is survived by her sons and daughter-in-laws, Kevin & Louise, Gerry & Beverley, David & Kim, Ann, and son in-law Merv. Loving Grandmother of: Bobby, Chris, Kenny; Emilie; Jade; Michael and Matthew. A 30 year cancer survivor, she loved horses, cars, walks in the park and most importantly family and friends. She always had a wise crack and smile at the ready. A special thanks to the church and community of Kahnawake who have embraced her as a friend and family member. As per her wishes there will be no visitation. BROWNELL, CECIL E. "LEFTY" - Of Saint John, passed away at Seely Lodge on Friday, May 2, 2008. Born in Saint John, he was the son of the late Charles and Alice (Irvine) Brownell. He worked at the Port of Saint John before his retirement in 1977, and was a member of the International Longshoreman's Association Local #213 and the Bricklayers & Allied Craft Workers Local #8. He was a member of the NB Sports Hall of Fame and a member of the St. Croix St. Stephen Baseball Club. Cecil and Hazel spent a lot of time at his camp on Log Falls Rd. in Musquash. The last surviving member of his immediate family, he is survived by his niece, Freda (Tom) Gillen; nephew, Cecil (Patsy) Brownell and several great nephews and nieces. Resting at Castle Funeral Home, "Fallsview Chapel", 309 Lancaster Ave., (634-1701) there will be no visitation. She was born at Gray Rapids, NB in 1936 and was a daughter of the late Chester and Cora (Sturgeon) Curtis. Thelma devoted her life to her family, friends and her Christian faith. She touched all who knew her by her gracious, kind and spiritual presence. SOUTHALL, George Arthur - After a very full life, George Arthur Southall died peacefully at the age of 77, May 4th in Kingston, Ontario. Loving husband to Carol. Father to David (Laura), Diane, Stephen, Elizabeth (Jim), Kenny (Natacha) and John. Grandfather to Meg, Duncan, James, Ben, Carol, Alice, Kenny, Will (and others surely to come soon!). George was a Minister of the United Church of Canada and a professor at Queen's University in the Faculties of Education and Medicine. He will be remembered for his love of life! His thoughtful ministry, and a deep love of music held great meaning for him, but it was his keen sense of humour that made people happy to be near him. He will be greatly missed by his family and close friends. A Memorial Service will be held Friday May 9th at 2 pm at Zion United Church (106 Pine Street, Kingston). CLAUSON, Sharon 2008-05-06 It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Mrs. Sharon Lillian Clauson (ne: Smook) of Thunder Bay, on Tuesday, April 15, 2008 in St. Joseph‘s Hospice after a courageous battle with Breast Cancer. Born Sheren Lillian Smook on June 20, 1944, she attended Hillcrest High School and worked at various locations prior to moving to Ajax, Ontario in 1971 after her marriage to Robert Clauson. Later, she returned to Thunder Bay to care for her Father, R (Dick) Shute. Sharon was employed at the Grandview Hallmark Store until her illness forced her to take leave. Special thanks to June Hodgins for her dedication, constant assistance, companionship and laughter that she brought into Mom‘s life almost on a daily basis. Sharon will be sadly missed by her daughters: Shari Clauson (Shawn Waino) of Thunder Bay, Loranna Clauson (Brian Larose) of Barrie, and Julie Clauson (Pete Marshall) of Madoc; grandchildren: Jessica and Travis Waino, Zemi, Taz, Jez, and Zeth Clauson; brother Ken Williams (June) of Alberta and his family; best friend Sandy Lake (Tommy); and ex-husband Bob Clauson of Pembroke. Numerous nieces; nephews and other relatives also survive. She was predeceased by her Mother, Marie Ann Shute ne: Nelson ( age 61); Dad and Father, Richard John Shute (age 82); and Father, William Smook (age 28). Respecting our Mother‘s wishes, Cremation has taken place and a Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 10th, 2008 in the Chapel of Harbourview Funeral Centre, 499 North Cumberland Street. DONALDSON, Andrew Gault "Don" On May 5, 2008, at the Dearness Home in London, Ontario; Andrew Gault "Don" Donaldson passed away at the age of 88. Predeceased by his wife Joyce Violet (2002). Dear father to Keith (Billie) and Russ (Elaine) Donaldson. Loved by his grandchildren Jimmy (Suzanne), Jeffrey, Stephanie (Ben) McCammon, Dwayne, Darcy (Sheri) and Lannie (Rob). He will be missed by 7 great-grandchildren. Don was a veteran of the II World War, where he saw service in Britain, Sicily and Italy. His career, of 35 years, was spent with the Department of Agriculture in Ottawa. Cremation has taken place and there will be a private family graveside service on Friday, May 9, 2008, at Capital Memorial Gardens in Nepean, Ontario. If desired, memorial donations to the Alzheimer Society would be appreciated by the family. Thanks to the caring staff on Forest Glen Ward at the Dearness Home. Terry Ryan 1920-2008 Terry Ryan Terence McSweeney Ryan, ( Terry) of Bateman Mill Road, Shediac Cape, formerly of Pointe du Chêne and Moncton departed on his final journey from his residence on Tuesday, May 6. He held the course, remaining 100% to the end and was surrounded by his wife, Joanne and several of his children at the time of his departure. Terry was born in 1920 in Port-aux-Basques, Newfoundland and raised in North Sydney, Cape Breton. He was the second child of Bill Ryan and Mary (Keating) Ryan. He graduated from Holy Angels Academy in North Sydney, 1938. He was first employed as a Radio Operator on the SSKyle, traveling up the Newfoundland and Labrador coasts during the summer of 1940. Through a series of events and mistaken x-rays (that could only happen to Terry) he was unable to enlist in the Canadian services and joined the British Air Ministry in Sept. 1940. He was stationed in Gander. Following that he served on the S.S. Kingdoc in the Merchant Navy services. By 1942 he was part of the Department of Transport; Air Transport Command in stations in Shediac, Goose Bay, Montreal and Moncton. All of this work provided Terry with great experiences that translated into great stories including those relating to landing the Pan American clippers, and tracking the radio transmissions of the Bismarck. Terry married Shelagh (Keating) of Moncton in 1946 and settled in the “old West End” of Moncton. He and his family lived in his beloved cottage at Parlee Beach from April to October every year. Terry could be seen swimming at Parlee Beach or diving from the Point-du-Chêne Wharf almost every day throughout the season. He experimented with raising chickens, pheasants, grapes and great varieties of flowers and vegetables in his gardens there. Working his way through the ranks of the Department of Transport, Terry eventually became Regional Manager of Telecommunications for Transport Canada. He retired from this position in 1979 to take care of his wife Shelagh, who predeceased him in 1980. But retirement did not stop Terry=s life long learning adventures. Not knowing one thing about mental health issues, he, nevertheless became a became a key volunteer with the local branch of the Canadian Mental Health Association. He served both as President and plumber of the Moncton Chapter for several years, as well as serving on the Provincial Executive. He became a very vocal advocate for the clients of CMHA who, in turn, became personal friends of Terry=s. In 1988 he initiated the Daisy Campaign, corralling fellow retirees and skaters to volunteer in this annual fund raising event. During this time he also founded and presided over the Pointe-du-Chêne Residents Association, engaging and winning in public debates with various provincial tourism ministers, fighting the potential over-development of the Parlee Beach area. For recreation he skated daily with the Bi-Centennial Skating Club. Terry loved travelling, spending many winters in the same community in Cuba, forming enduring friendships with the residents. Terry remarried in 1999 Joanne Marshall-Forgie of Shediac Cape and soon added trips to Thailand as part of his adventures. In the past two years he volunteered in Swaziland, Africa helping to prepare and deliver food for AIDS orphans through the United Nations World Food Program and initiated support for the Cabrini Ministries ( AIDS program and orphanage) . All of these journeys resulted in enduring friendships with people of all ages. During the last few weeks of his life he enjoyed messages from Cuba, Mexico,Thailand, Sri Lanka, Africa and the UK. He will be greatly missed by his wife, Joanne, and eleven children, Dennis (Nancy) of Beverly Hills, Michigan; Maureen, of Kingsville, Ontario: Brenda, (Michael) of Halifax, Nova Scotia; Bill (Steve), of Montreal, Québec; Patricia Young (Lockie) of Lower Coverdale, New Brunswick; Cynthia (David), of Moncton; Peter (Lise), of Moncton; Shanta, of Albuquerque, New Mexico; Jolene Smyth (Ryan), of Moncton; Kristalise, of Moncton; and Natalia, of Montreal; eleven grand-children, many nieces and nephews, great nieces and great nephews, and his sisters Joan Ryan of Halifax, Nova Scotia, and Maureen Cochrane of Vancouver, British Columbia. In addition to his parents and first wife, he was predeceased by his brothers Jim of Ottawa and Martin of Edmonton. Visitation at Frenette Funeral Home Ltd., 396 Main St., Shediac (532-3297) on Friday, May 9 from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. No visitation on Saturday prior to the funeral. BROWN, MASON CHARLES The passing of Mason Charles Brown, of Doaktown, NB, husband of Juanita (Clowater) Brown, occurred peacefully with his family by his side on Sunday, May 4, 2008 at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Regional Hospital. Born on October 26, 1929, he was a son of the late John and Maria (Gilks) Brown. He worked as a woods worker and a mill worker. In addition to his wife, Mason is survived by one daughter, Alta (Bruce); three sons, Kevin (Alice), Charles and Lorne; grandchildren, Christopher, Nicole, Timothy, Ross, Katelyn, Kristyn, Stephanie, Charlie and Penny; step-grandchildren, Dakota and Denzel; two sisters, Olive and Megan; and one brother, Kenneth. Libby was born and adopted in 1945 by proud parents, Marguerite and Lorne Marrs and older brothers Michael and Peter and grew up in Agincourt, Ontario. She graduated from McMaster University in 1967 and then worked as hostess of Ontario Pavilion at Expo 67 in Montreal. She married Peter Barnes of Waterdown in 1969. While raising four children, she was also very active in the community. She was president of Red Cross for several years, as well as involved in St. James United Church. She was president of McMaster Alumni Club meetings and was involved with YMCA. Libby's focus in life was to care for others. She was a very positive person with a great sense of humour. Beloved husband of Mae (Hagerman) Thomson for 51 years. Leading Airwoman, RCAF Women's Division DOWLING (nee Knox), Isabella Joyce - Passed away peacefully at the age of 86 with family by her side on Saturday, May 3, 2008 at St. Mary's of the Lake Hospital. She fought courageously and inspirationally to recover from a devastating fall and stroke. Predeceased by her parents W. Alexander Knox and Madeleine Clinton Houston; three sisters Libby Knox, Mary Harper and Isobel Maxwell; husband John V.C. Dowling. Survived by her sister Margot Mossman. Loving mother of Michael (Mary) of Vancouver, BC; Peter (Dianne), Mary Munroe (Rick), Gregory (Caroline) of Howe Island; Brian (Jodie), Theresa Schneider (Keith), Matthew (Sharon), Kevin (Ann), Bridget Campbell (Gordon) of Kingston; Madeleine Cassidy of Belleville; Kathleen Catala (Juan) of Montreal QC; Patsy Lane (Calvin) of Yarker; Monica Kotowych (Don) of Humble, Texas. Her legacy will live forever in her 13 children, 38 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren and the generations that will follow. She will be fondly remembered by her extended family and friends from her rural and urban communities. A special thank you to the healthcare providers at KGH, Providence Manor and especially those at St. Mary's of the Lake. Family and friends will be received at the CENTRAL CHAPEL of the GORDON F. TOMPKINS FUNERAL HOMES, 49 Colborne Street (at Clergy) on Wednesday, May 7th from 2-4 & 7-9 pm. Mass of Christian Burial at St. Philomena's Church, Howe Island on Thursday, May 8th (time to be confirmed). Cremation to follow. TEAL, Leonard David John - Suddenly on Saturday, May 3, 2008 at home, at the age of 38. Dear father of Sonni, Harvey, Malika and Amina. Loved son of Larry and Danna Teal of Verona, brother of Jamie Wilkins (Paul) of Belleville, Carolyn Teal (Jane) of Verona. Lovingly missed by nieces Sarah and Rebecca. Grandson to Dorothy Napier of Kingston. Predeceased by his grandparents Harvey Napier (Kingston), David and Clara Teal (Sharbot Lake).
