Elvin Burton (Byng) Tozer The death of Elvin Burton (Byng) Tozer, husband of Shirley (Hare) (Lawlor) Tozer of Exmoor, NB, occurred at the Miramichi Regional Hospital on Wednesday, April 30, 2008 at the age of 83. Born in Sunny Corner, NB, Byng was the son of the late Elvin E. and Harriet (Hattie) Tozer. A veteran of World War II, he served overseas with the Carleton York Regiment and the North Shore Regiment. Following the war he was employed with Abitibi Pulp and Paper, Thunder Bay, ON, for seven years. He retired from Waltec Industries, Cambridge, ON where he was employed for 35 years. He was a member of the Islandview Senior Citizens, Sunny Corner and Royal Canadian Legion, Branch # 90, Sunny Corner and was a member of St. Stephen's United Church, Red Bank, NB. Besides his wife Shirley, he is survived by one son, Brian Tozer of Cambridge, ON; one step-son, Kim Lawlor (Grace) of Sunny Corner, NB; one step-daughter, Gertrude Lawlor (Gunther Reissner) of Yoho, NB; one granddaughter, Kristen Tozer of Cambridge ON; one step-grandson, Frank Lawlor of Sunny Corner, NB; six brothers, Hixon (Ila) of Miramichi, NB, Lorne (Margaret) of Whitney, NB, Daina (Melanie) Thunder Bay, ON, Frank (Lois) of Brantford ON, Joe (Myrna) of Truro, NS and Rev. Dr. Vernon (Pauline) of Brantford ON. Three sisters, Alda Sherrard (Sherman) of Sunny Corner, NB, Betty Field (Stewart) of Bayfield, ON and Mona Tozer of Sunny Corner, NB. Predeceased by his former wife, Mary (Sawchuk) Tozer (1986); and two infant sisters, Ina Mae and Edna Hazel. At Elvin's request there will be no visitation or Funeral Service. Following cremation a graveside service will be held at St. Stephen's United Church Cemetery, Red Bank, NB at a later date. In Elvin's memory a donation may be made at Bell's Funeral Home, to the St. Stephen's United Church Memorial Fund. HUSBY, Ethel April 6, 1915 - May 1, 2008 Ethel Frances Husby was called to Eternal Life on May 1, 2008 to be joyfully reunited with Sid, her husband of fifty-eight years. She is survived by her three children Michael (Australia), Judi Kemp (High River) and Starr Prowse (Calgary); seven grandchildren, Michael, Jane, Greg, Toa, Corey, Dayle and Lesley; four great-grandchildren, Tamara, Deanna, Taylen and Kai and one great-great-granddaughter Charlee. Born in Alderson, AB, the eldest of four children, she began her long teaching career in Stony Slope and then in Meadowbank where she met her husband. They farmed in the High River area for many years where she continued teaching in Cayley and High River. The family relocated to Edmonton in 1962 where she taught at Glen Rose Hospital. Being a gifted artist, she shared this talent with her students. She continued teaching English to immigrants during her retirement years in Green Bay (Kelowna). Her love of travel began with her friend Dot to the World's Fair in New York in 1939, and a further tour down the west coast in 1940. In her retirement years, she and Sid traveled throughout most of the world - Australia, South America, Europe, Asia, Scandinavia and Africa. Ethel will be remembered for her great strength, generosity, her love of children, her sense of adventure and her zest for life. A Celebration of her Life will be held at SNODGRASS FUNERAL CHAPEL, High River on Wednesday, May 7 at 2:00 p.m. with the Reverend Marvin Rust officiating. Elle laisse dans le deuil son époux, Clovis; deux filles: Léoline (Normand) Hetu et Charline (Larry) McKnight, toutes deux de Moncton; deux fils: Francis (Diane) de Moncton et Léonard (Mary Jane) de Saugus, Mass, ainsi que dix petits-enfants, cinq arrière-petits-enfants et plusieurs neveux et nièces. She is survived by her husband, Clovis Melanson; two daughters, Léoline (Normand) Hetu and Charline (Larry) McKnight both of Moncton; two sons, Francis (Diane) of Moncton and Léonard (Mary Jane) of Saugus, Mass; ten grandchildren; five great grandchildren; as well as by several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by three sisters, Joselyne, Irène and Lila; and by four brothers, Sifroi, Allain, Alyre and Arthur. CHAPMAN, Ronald October 16, 1956 - May 2, 2008 Ronald Chapman passed away on Friday, May 2, 2008 after 51 full and loving years on earth. A husband to Wendy, the father of Brad, Kevin and Jill, the son of Gordon and Colleen Chapman; the brother of Debbie (Bill) Bradley; nieces Alayne, Lisa and Anne; and brother to Tammy Chapman; son-in-law to Ralph Morgan; brother-in-law to Rick and Gary Morgan. Ron will be fondly remembered by the extended families as well as countless friends. He was recently predeceased by mother-in-law Norma Morgan. Ron grew up in Calgary, where he met Wendy, his beloved wife of thirty years, and together they raised three incredible children whom he loved with all his heart. Ron touched the lives of so many people with his selfless and giving nature, always there for anybody in need. He was an exemplary friend and community member who regularly volunteered countless hours coaching and fundraising. The Chapman house on Hendon Drive was a second home for a lot of friends who have always been so welcome there, spending many wonderful days enjoying Ron's company as well as his unbeatable pancakes and skills on the barbecue. For over thirty years Ron worked for the City of Calgary in various capacities. Many people were blessed to be part of his life and it was through his selflessness, that the cancer on his pancreas and liver was discovered when he went through tests to find if he could donate part of his liver to a friend in need. Ron never said "no" to anyone, and had no idea how many people he touched in his life with his warm, outgoing personality and endless ability to give. Like his children Ron loved to travel and took some fantastic trips, including memorable visits with Wendy to Bali, Europe and most recently to Hawaii. He loved to play hockey and always enjoyed a good game of golf. Music was a great passion of Ron's, whether playing the drums, listening to his friends singing and playing guitars, attending live music concerts, or simply being unstoppable on the dance floor. It is with immense sadness that we grieve the sudden death of such a remarkable man and honour his full and loving life with all the beautiful memories that will be cherished forever. Not much to gossip at the dinner table. Congratulating or criticizing politicians was the topic. I attributed my success in politics, as in life, as being a good listener. I would realize immediately when someone knew more about a subject and I would pick their brains. One of my favorite reporters was the late Jim Norton. One day I received a copy of a remark I made that had hit the Sarnia Observer. “Right On“ had been written on it. I was very pleased to receive praise from Jim Norton. A month or so later I got another note with an article attached and the note said “Marg you are out in left field““. Margaret was actively involved in Church and community. IWANCHUN, Matthew 'Matt' Hilton - A resident of Chatham, Matt Iwanchun died on Tuesday, April 29, 2008 at the Chatham Kent Health Alliance, in his 18th year. Born in Chatham he is the cherished son of Sylvie Beauvais and Steve Iwanchun (Valerie Haysum), and beloved brother of Jacques Beauvais. Matt was the loving grandson of Claude & Theresa Beauvais and John & Loretta Iwanchun. He will be sadly missed by his aunts and uncles: Chris Beauvais (Charlotte), Mary Beauvais (Roger Sauve), Penny Bourgeois, and Rick Iwanchun (Margie Foisey). He will be missed by his cousins: Allan, Melissa, Jessica, Collin, Charlyze, Christopher, Brandon, Danielle, Jenna, Joey, and Mikita. Matthew was a student at John McGregor Secondary School and spent most of his childhood in Blenheim. He was a big fan of the Greenbay Packers and the Vancouver Canucks. Born in Fredericton NB, she was the daughter of the late Harry and Winnifred (Cordery) Davidson and wife of the late Jean-Louis Laurendeau. Ruby was a member of the Church of England. She was formerly employed as a medical secretary with the V.P.H. and retired from the Royal Victoria Hospital, Montreal. Ruby was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Ladies Auxiliary Branch # 4. Survived by her children, Pierre Laurendeau of Montreal, Que; Paulette Laurendeau (Mark Hobson) of Tofino, BC; special friends, Diane Quigg of Dumfries and David McMath of Fredericton. Although there will be no visitation, a funeral service will be held on Wednesday May 7, 2008 from Bishop's Funeral Home Chapel at 11:00 am, with the Venerable John Sharpe officiating. Born in Baie Ste-Anne, NB on February 20, 1918, he was the son of the late Andrew and Barbara (Chiasson) Manuel. Clement leaves behind his wife, Rita Manuel (Guimond); his children, Pearl (Raymond) Gallant of Sisson Ridge, Barbara (Sherman) Goodine of Hartland, Christine Donovan of Plaster Rock, Karen (Danny) Tompkins of Currie Road, Richard (Zella) Manuel of Baie Ste-Anne, NB; his sisters, Dorina Hachey, Pircella Miller, Vitaline Hachey, Mildred Comeau, Genevieve Turbide, and Jacqueline Manuel; his brothers, Anthime Manuel, Albert Manuel, Alias Manuel; 19 grandchildren and 31 great grandchildren. He was predeceased by his son, Donald Manuel; his sisters, Madone Daigle, Elisa Morehouse, and Dora Daigle. Resting at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church in Plaster Rock with visitation on Sunday 7 to 9 pm. Funeral service will be held on Monday, May 5, 2008 at 10 am from the church.
