DONALDSON, Frances Irene - (nee Collinson) Class of '36-Trinity College, University of Toronto, Retired Teacher. Born on the family farm, Seeley's Bay on May 12, 1909. Daughter of the late Ernest Collinson and Mary Sheffield. Died Peacefully on May 3, 2008 at Carveth Nursing Home, Gananoque, 9 days before her 99th birthday. Predeceased in 1997 by her husband of 50 years, John Francis Donaldson of Joyceville, and by her sister, Marjorie Hull in 1951. Survived by her 2 sons and their families: Dave, Barbara, Bob (Robin), Laura (Ben), and Alison of Seeley's Bay and John, Barbara and Trevor (Victoria) of Joyceville. She is also survived by her brother, George and his wife Jean of Seeley's Bay, and their daughters, Mary Anne of Ottawa, and Carol (Ron) and their children Isaac and Sara of Scarborough, and her sister, Denese, and her children Andrea and her daughter Claire of Toronto, and Paul (Catherine) and their son, Sam of San Jose, California. In keeping with her wishes, cremation has taken place and there will be no visitation. A Memorial Service to celebrate Frances' life will be held at Lillies Baptist Cemetery at a later date. As expressions of sympathy, memorial donations made to the Lillies Baptist Cemetery would be appreciated by the family. COOK, Patricia May (nee Hughes) - After a lengthy battle with Cancer, at her home, surrounded by the love of her family on Sunday May 4, 2008 in her 81st year. Cherished wife of 59 years of William Thomas James “Jim“ Cook. Beloved mother of Robin Bradley (Ed), Chris (Pauline), Karen Steacy (Doug), Dan (Sharlene) and Patrick. Loving grandmother of Brooke (Cameron), Kevin, Micheal, James, Elizabeth (Troy), Andrew, Mathew, Keilan, Alyssa, Mackenzie, Amanda and Tyler. She was an extended mother to all her nieces and nephews. Predeceased by her sisters Marion Ritchie and Joan Nickapelo and her brother Jim Hughes. Patricia was a proud member of the C.W.L., and her other joys and accomplishments included volunteering at the Kingston Cancer Clinic, knitting clothes for pre- mature babies, and being involved with the Kingston Area Real Estate Association and the Taoist Tai Chi Society of Kingston. The family wishes to extend their sincere appreciation to the Palliative Care Team of the Kingston Cancer Clinic, CanCare Health Services and especially Theresa James. TAMLYN, LOUISE MARGARET - The death of Louise Margaret Tamlyn of Hampton, wife of Donald Tamlyn occurred May 3, 2008 at the Saint John Regional Hospital. She was born in River John, Pictou County, NS, daughter of the late Hector and Jean (Henry) MacKay. Louise was a Bank Manager with Scotia bank before retirement. Louise enjoyed RVing, her winters in Florida and making and selling crafts. She is survived by her husband, Donald; one daughter, Karen Tamlyn (Larry Clements), Fredericton; two sons, Michael Tamlyn (Diane Martin), Halifax, NS, Jeff Tamlyn (Wendy), Largo, Florida; four brothers, Gordon MacKay (Eleanor), Donald MacKay (Joan), Frank MacKay (Jemima), and John MacKay (Janice), all of Pictou, NS; six grandchildren, three great grandchildren, several nieces, nephews and cousins. NEWLAND, Frits Peacefully on Friday, May 2, 2008 at the age of 83. For 58 years he and his wife Anna shared a life together, bringing into this world John, Mattie Montgomery and Sheila. He was grateful to son in law Hugh for his wisdom and helping hand. Frits was very proud of his grandchildren Christopher, Daun, Lisa, Lynne and Julia. He is survived by his sister Jeltje Feyer. Frits left his native Netherlands with his wife and two small children in 1953 to begin a new and better life and was ever grateful for his adopted Canada. Beloved father of Pat Newburgh (Betty) of Saskatchewan and Tom Newburgh (Linda) of Welland. Much loved grandfather of Jennifer, Tanya, Alanda, Thomas and Lawrence. Loved great-grandfather of Blake, Bret, and Shana Lee. Dear brother of Joseph Newburgh (Caroline) of Welland. Also predeceased by parents Frederick and Aline Newburgh, his dear companion Judy Bedard, brothers Aime, Hector, Rudolph, Fred, Harold, Bill and George and sisters Aline and Doreen. Born in Fonthill, Mr. Newburgh lived most of his life in Welland. He was employed as a steelworker for forty years with Atlas Steels, retiring in 1983. During the Second World War Mr. Newburgh served Canada overseas in the Canadian Army. He was a member of the Boy Scouts of Canada, Branch #4 Royal Canadian Legion, Welland and the Quarter Century Club of Atlas. Although handicapped, Mr. Newburgh did not allow this to hinder his life. He was a member of the United Handicapped Groups of Ontario, Persons United for Self Help, the Niagara Centre for Independent Living, the Niagara Regional National Access Awareness Week Committee and the Welland Lion's Aces. DAVIDSON, LINDA MARLENE On January 30, 1949, James and Leona Bigger welcomed their first daughter, Linda Marlene. Since that time, she grew into a fine woman with a family that loved her dearly. So, it is with great sadness that we announce her death on May 2, 2008 peacefully at her home in Fredericton Junction. Linda leaves behind to mourn, her husband, Joseph Davidson, her son, Douglas (Karen) Janes of Cold Lake Alberta, daughters Jacqueline (Jason) Shannon and Robin (Jeff) Howe, all of Hoyt, NB. No one loved or was more proud of their grandchildren than "Nanny". Kayla, Jordan, Lauren, Mark, Emily, Emmett, Kennedy and Aurora will miss her thoughtful ways and how she shared her love of crafts with them. Her Mother, Leona Bigger of Fredericton Junction, sister, Jolene (Frankie) Hartt, Fredericton, brothers Barry (Marilyn) of Florenceville, Bev, Bob(Andrew) and John (Lori) all of Fredericton Junction will miss her and how she unselfishly shared and cared for each of us in her own unique way. When she married Joe, she earned herself another 'family' of whom she spoke fondly, including Father-in-Law, Calvin Davidson and brothers and sisters-in-law Karen (Bob) Slauenwhite, Stephen (Lori) Davidson, Lori (Steven) Armstrong, Wendy (Dale) Ryan. Linda maintained relationships with a vast extended family including many nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles. She was predeceased by her Father Jim Bigger and Mother-in-Law Sandra Davidson. Linda was a friend to many and was very active in her community. She belonged to many organizations including the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #55, the Gladstone Curling Club and Saint Columba's Catholic Church. Dad will be lovingly remembered and dearly missed by his loving wife of 63 years, Dorothy; children, Derby (Gloria), Alma (Ernie), Lloyd (Linda), Phyllis, Glen (Phyllis) and Seymour (Wendy); grandchildren and great grandchildren. Also surviving Dad, is his brother, Fred and sister Mertle (William) Sinclair; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Dad was predeceased by his parents, Catherine and Harry; daughter, Doreen; grandson, Stewart; brother, Tom; sister, Bertha Cook. Cyril was born and raised in Peguis. He became a farmer at a young age and continued his career until his retirement. He was a hard worker and together with his wife, they instilled strong work ethics in their children. Cyril also enjoyed hunting, trapping and fishing. His greatest joy was spending time with his family and friends. He had a special place in his heart for all of his grandchildren and great grandchildren. The family would like to thank the staff at the Percy E. Moore Hospital , especially Lorne Houston for taking such good care of our Dad. Also thanks to the caring staff at the Tudor House in Selkirk. Thank you to the Peguis Chief and Council, and to the family and friends, near and far, for the numerous phone calls and words of encouragement. YERXA, GUY FREDERICK The passing of Guy Frederick Yerxa, of Fredericton, NB, husband of M. Jean (Wilson) Yerxa occurred on Saturday, May 3, 2008 at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Regional Hospital. He was surrounded by his loving family. Born on May 17, 1922 in Mouth of Keswick, he was a son of the late Guy Moses and Ella May (Hagerman) Yerxa. Guy was a woodsman, truck driver and mail driver. In retirement he was an avid scooter enthusiast and enjoyed his morning coffee with friends at Franks. With Guy his family came first and he was always there for his wife, son, daughters, grandchildren and great grandchildren. His door was always open. In addition to his wife, Guy is survived by three daughters, Linda Calhoun of Fredericton, Sharon Black (Philip) of Kingsclear, Faye King (Kevin) of Fredericton; one son, John Yerxa (Veronica) of New Market; 12 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; one sister, Ethel Taylor of Bear River, NS; one brother, Sherman Yerxa (Shirley) of Keswick; several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, Guy was predeceased by an infant daughter, Joyce; one brother, Albert Yerxa; three sisters-in-law, Marie Wilson, Violet Yerxa and Helen Jackson; three brothers-in-law, Glendon Taylor, Lloyd Wilson and William Gilmore. Visitation will take place at York Funeral Home, 302 Brookside Drive, Fredericton on Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm. A Funeral Service will be held from Keswick United Baptist Church on Tuesday, May 6, 2008 at 2 pm with Pastor Jonathan McKay officiating and Rev. Ralph Irving assisting. Pallbearers for the service will be Jeremy Calhoun, Corey, Jesse and Ray Yerxa, Shawn Black and Jordan King. Honorary Pallbearers will be Sherman Yerxa, Keith Taylor, Murray Wilson, Donald Ames, Austin Fraser, Basil Hawkins, Edison and Earl Phillips. COUGHLIN, Martha Hazel (nee Dent) Passed away peacefully in her 95th year on Friday, May 2, 2008. Eldest daughter of the late Dr. and Mrs. C.M. Dent and beloved wife of the late Lieut. Cdr. Clifton (Tony) R. Coughlin DSC M. Comm. Martha was awarded a BA from Carleton University and spent a year at the Sorbonne University in Paris, France. She worked for twenty-eight years with the Metropolitan Life Insurance Company working in Ottawa and in the Home Office in New York, and then worked for fourteen years as a business teacher at Laurentian, Fisher Park and Sir Wilfred Laurier High Schools. She was a member and on the board of the Chelsea Club and also a member of the University Women's Club. She traveled the globe, exploring many remote areas long before it was fashionable or easy to do so. The love of Martha's life was Tony Coughlin. He was Gunnery Officer on HMCS Assiniboine, second gunnery officer on the British battleship HMS Resolution, captain of the corvette HMCS Chilliwack and second in command of the Tribal class destroyer HMCS Iroquois. He was awarded the DSC after the Chilliwack, under his command, sank a German U-boat. He died in October 1944 from injuries suffered from an accident aboard the Iroquois. He is buried in the War Graves Naval Cemetery at Scapa Flow, Lyness, Orkney Islands. While Martha lived her life to the fullest, she never remarried. She remained deeply in love with Tony, frequently returning to spots they visited during their New York honeymoon and making the long visit to his grave at Scapa Flow on ten occasions. Predeceased by her two brothers G. Mitchell Dent (Theresa) and Dr. Lionel R. Dent (Elena) and one sister, Frances Dent. Survived by many nieces and nephews Mitchell, Roger, Melanie, Cynthia, Robert, Linda, Jennifer, James and Gordon Dent, Donald Coughlin and Bruce Northrup and her dear friends Marni Emerson and Janet Melvin. She was predeceased by her nieces Karen Brousseau and Virginia Paterson.
