O'CALLAGHAN, Edward Francis - In loving memory of Edward Francis O'Callaghan, who passed away in his 91st year on Wednesday, April 16th, 2008 at the SRH - Laurentian Site. Edward was born in Rosetown, Saskatchewan and married Isabel (Hill) in 1948 in Edmonton. Edward was a drill technologist at INCO having 37 years retiring in 1977. A devout Roman Catholic he had attended various local parishes during his lifetime and he was a member of the Knights of Columbus. He was a member of the Sudbury Stamp Club. He was an avid reader and a loyal Blue Jays Fan. Edward will be remembered as an honourable man who never lost his temper and he was devoted to his loving family. Beloved husband of the late Isabel (Hill) O'Callaghan predeceased. Loving father of Marie Baker and Margie both of Sudbury, John of Toronto and the late Peter and Alphonsus both predeceased. Cherished Grandpa “O“ of Carolynn, Laurie (William), Stephen (Sherri), Shannon, Aemy, Michael, Grace and Claire and great Grandpa “O“ of Cameron, Halley and Mitchell. KEIR, Elizabeth Anne - passed away at her residence in Ottawa on April 11, 2008, following a long and courageous battle with cancer. She was 47. Born in Sudbury on October 25, 1960, she attended elementary schools in Sudbury and Richmond Hill and was a graduate of Loretto Abbey in Toronto. Elizabeth was an ardent student of federal politics and frequently attended sessions of Parliament and public events and functions on Parliament Hill. She was a member of Ottawa West-Nepean Riding Liberal Association. Elizabeth was the official family photographer and was uniquely gifted in creating family albums. A great cat lover; she was a regular visitor to the cat condos on Parliament Hill. Elizabeth leaves her parents, Robert J. Keir (Joanna Taylor), Sudbury, and Catherine E. Arthurs (Patrick), Onaping Falls; brothers, Christopher (Jacqueline), Toronto, Michael (Orysia), Hamilton, and Patrick (Mary Alice), Ottawa; sisters, Mary King (Ian), Houston, Texas, and Patricia Scherer (John), Peterborough. She will be sadly missed by several aunts and uncles and many nieces and nephews. A commemorative celebration of Elizabeth's life by family and friends was held on April 13 in Ottawa. McGUIRE, Dr. Michael, G Died peacefully on Tuesday, April 15, 2008 at the age of 97. Beloved husband of the late Mary Loretta McGuire (nee O'Grady). Born in Smiths Falls, Ontario in 1910, son of the late Hugh and Catherine (Healy) McGuire. Loving father of Frank (Tony), Kate McCarney (Brian), James (Fran), Des (Sue), Dr. Brian (Maria), Kevin (Lynne), Dr. Joseph (Vivian), Michelle, Marcia Beauchamp (Pierre). Lovingly remembered by 21 grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. Predeceased by four brothers and nine sisters. He studied medicine at Queen's University, he was also educated at Balliol College, Oxford, England and Rotunda Hospital, Dublin, Ireland. He served as a medical officer in World War II, enlisted with the Royal Canadian Army Medical Corps in 1941, proceeded overseas in 1943 serving in England, France, Belgium, Holland and Germany. After his repatriation, he was a long time physician and surgeon in Brockville, Ontario until his retirement in the 1990's. In the late 1990's, he moved to Ottawa. He will be sorely missed by the many lives he touched. The family wishes to thank the staff of Ottawa 2 East of the Perley Rideau Veteran's Health Centre for their care in the past eighteen months. As well, gratitude is extended to the many physicians, nurses and support staff who assisted him in his last days at the Ottawa (General) Hospital. He was predeceased by his wife Ruth Edmison and their daughters, Elizabeth "Betsy" (Pierre Boudreault) and Barbara "Barrie" (Gerry Lapointe) and grandsons Russel and Jim. He was recently predeceased by his wife Ruth Winslow-Spragge. John graduated from McGill in 1936 he could have chosen any one of several paths in life. He excelled in academics and athletics and was an artist and leader. He became a Chartered Accountant and was managing partner in the firm that eventually became KPMG in Montreal. John retired to spend winters at Jekyll Island, Georgia and became more involved with his consulting business, patent projects, travel, painting, and golf. His contributions to the community were many, and included terms as President of Whitlock Golf Club, Westmount YMCA, the Seigniory Club. He was an advisor to the Senate of Canada, Committee Banking Trade and Commerce. He served as president of the Order of Chartered Accountants of Quebec, and was founding Director of the Conseil Interprofessionel du Quebec. He was also President and Director of several international firms. OBITUARY MARIA PIETROPICCOLO Mrs. Maria Pietropiccolo of Medicine Hat, beloved wife of the late Mr. Alfredo Pietropiccolo, passed away on Saturday, April 12, 2008 at the age of seventy-seven years. Maria leaves to cherish her memory two daughters, Teresa (Vince) Di Ninno of Medicine Hat and Gerardina Rita Pietropiccolo of Laval, Quebec; six grandchildren, Alexandra, Anthony, Thomas and Robert Di Ninno, Matthew and Jasmina Di Minno. Besides her husband, Alfredo, Maria was predeceased by her parents, Guerino and Angela Del Zoppo; and one brother, Camillo Del Zoppo. Maria was born on December 29, 1930 in Poggiofiorito, Chieti, Italy and married Alfredo in 1950. She immigrated to Canada with her daughter to join her husband in 1964 and they made Montreal their home. While in Montreal, she worked and became immersed in the Montreal lifestyle learning to speak both French and English besides her native tongue, Italian. In 1969, Maria had their second daughter, Dina. She made her home with Dina and her family. She enriched their lives immensely and contributed greatly to the upbringing and care of Matthew and Jasmina. After forty-two years in Montreal, she moved to Medicine Hat to live with her daughter, Teresa and her family. She loved music, dance and singing; passions, which she passed on to her grandchildren, who were her greatest joy. Maria had an incredible singing voice. As a young woman, she was a soloist in a local singing and performing group for many years. They traveled throughout her native region performing folk songs and dances dressed in the local costumes. Maria was a very happy and generous person, always singing and dancing, always willing to help others. Her grandchildren will always remember their grandma "nonnina". Her daughters, Teresa and Dina thank her for all she did for them. They love her and will miss her always. SWANN, Kevin. 1954-2008. After a courageous two year battle with lung cancer, Kevin passed away at the age of fifty-three on April 15 with his loving wife, Kathy, by his side. He leaves to mourn his devoted wife and best friend Kathy of thirty-four years, his daughter, Melissa and son Andrew. He will be sadly missed by his sister, Ann (Philipe), his brother, Donnie (Lise) and many loving nieces, nephews, cousins, other extended family members and friends. CHAPMAN, Sigrun Lilja Octavia (nee Palmason) August 24, 1916 - April 13, 2008 Sigrun "Runey" passed away peacefully at the Foothills Hospital in Calgary on Sunday, April 13, 2008 at the age of 91 years. Born in Arborg, Manitoba on August 24, 1916 she moved to Calgary in 1953 where she worked at the Holy Cross and Calgary General Hospitals. She was predeceased by her husband Arnold "Chappy" Chapman on September 27, 2006 and her son William Walterson on August 7, 1986. She is remembered by her son Robert (Norma) Walterson of Calgary, Alberta; sister Laura (John) Ronacher of Invermere, BC; brother Norman Palmason of Castlegar, BC; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. CHEASLEY, George Phillip George Phillip Cheasley, beloved husband of Mrs. Velma Cheasley, passed away at the Foothills Medical Centre on Monday, April 14, 2008. George was born and raised on a farm near Alexander, MB. He had many challenges and had great success with all his ventures as a farmer, as well as owner and operator of Texaco Service Stations. He was a long-time member of the Royal Canadian Legion No. 284. George also received many awards for safe city and highway driving. George worked for Calgary Transit for thirty-five years where he drove a Bus and was a Heavy Equipment Operator (tractor-trailer). George just wanted people to be decent and honest and may God bless. George had a brilliant mind for business and was very successful. He had many activities that he enjoyed upon retirement, crib, darts, lawn bowling and displaying his show car. With a great sense of humour George had a great social life with many friends and family. Besides his loving wife Velma, George is also survived by his two daughters and one son-in-law, Sharon and Clay Hodges, Heather Cheasley all of Calgary; and two grandchildren, Shannon Hodges and Christopher Hodges. JENSEN, Lavina Viola August 18, 1922 - April 15, 2008 Lavina Jensen of Calgary passed away on Tuesday, April 15, 2008 at the age of 85 years. Lavina was raised in Manyberries, AB but was born in Malta, Montana because tornado weather prevented her parents, Earl and Elsie House from returning to Alberta. ROSS, Ronald Edward May 2, 1938 - April 15, 2008 With great sadness, the family announces the passing of Ronald Edward Ross on Tuesday, April 15, 2008 after a short and courageous battle with cancer. Ron worked for Revenue Canada in Winnipeg for thirty years, retiring in 1995. At the same time he also farmed for twenty-three years, fulfilling one of his childhood dreams. Ron was well respected and a mentor to many, always willing to help others. His compassion for others was evident in the loving care he gave to his mother, Hilda and Irene. Besides farming, Ron enjoyed times spent with family, golf, trains, good music, dogs and sports. Ron leaves to mourn, his loving wife Barbara; his son Gordon (Pat) and grandsons Derek and David; grandson Caleb; stepsons Bill (Colleen) and Bob (Josee) and grandson Chad; sister Marilyn (Gordon) and nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his mother and father, Alma and Arthur; daughter Laura; and Hilda and Irene Poranski. STEFANIW, Donald John September 20, 1955 - April 15, 2008 It is with sadness we announce the sudden passing of Don, beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother and a dear friend to many. Don will be lovingly missed by his wife of thirty years, Donna. Don also leaves behind his son Micheal (Crystal, grandson Carter), daughter Jamie (fiance Otto) and son Jason. He married Donna on June 25, 1977 and worked for over thirty years with Western Rock Bit (now Maxfield Inc.) where he made many life-long friends. Don's love of the outdoors included golfing, curling and many years of camping at Mara Lake with his family. He was a member of Crystal Ridge Golf Course and the Calgary Couples Curling Club where he and Donna curled during the winter months. Don was a very loving and devoted family man, very proud of his children's accomplishments and he will be sadly missed.
