Lumina Caissie 1916-2008 C'est avec grande tristesse que nous annonçons le décès de Lumina Caissie, épouse de feu Léandre Caissie, à la Résidence O'Bons Soins de Shédiac, le lundi 7 avril 2008, à l'âge de 91 ans. Née le 27 septembre 1916 à Shédiac, elle était fille de feu Adolphe et Albina (Boudreau) Vautour. Mme Caissie était infirmère à la Villa Providence de Shédiac avant sa retraite. Elle laisse dans le deuil deux filles: Annette Cormier (Robert) de Deux Montagnes, QC, Charline Alexander (Allan) de Campbellton; deux beaux-fils: Georges Caissie (Valda) de Moncton, et Louis Caissie (Mary) de Fredericton; trois soeurs: Régina Ménard (feu Marcel) de Montréal, QC, Sr. Albina Vautour, Petite Soeurs de l'Assomption de Hastings-on-Hudson, N.Y., Sr. Clara Vautour, n.d.s.c., de Moncton; trois petits-enfants: Marc, Jennifer, Holly, un arrière-petit-fils, Benjamin; une nièce spéciale, Francine Léger (Fred) de Shédiac; ainsi que plusieurs beaux-petits-enfants et beaux-arrière-petits-enfants. Son premier mari Damien Cormier (1966), son deuxième mari, Léandre Caissie (2007), une soeur, Edna Boudreau, ainsi que quatre frères: R.P. Camille Vautour, Léo, Philibert et Hervé Vautour l'ont précédé dans la tombe. QUINLAN, CAROL JANNETTE - Carol J. Quinlan, widow of the late Ben Quinlan of St. Martins, passed away peacefully at the palliative care unit at the SJRH surrounded by her family on Saturday, April 5th, 2008. Born 1944 in Parsboro, N.S to the late Donald and Mildred (Jeffers) Hatfield. Carol worked for the Kountry Korner in St. Martins for several years retiring in 2005. She volunteered for Lakewood Head Start and was also a canvasser for the Canadian Cancer Society and at one time received an award for her efforts during the Fundy Trail Walk for Cancer. Devoted mother, sister, grandmother and friend she never gave up hope and fought with courage right till the end. Carol is survived by her sons, Timothy of Saint John, Ronald (Janet) of Fairfield and Shawn (Amy) of Black's Harbour; daughters, Nancy at home and Julie of Saint John; brother, Donald (Jean); sisters Audrey Burchill (Doug), Margaret Langille (Roger) all of St. Martins, Cathy MacVicar (Clint) of Eugenia, ON, Cindy Hatfield (Joe) of Saint John and Gail Currie (Dwight) of St. Martins; grandchildren, Ben, Ashleigh, Mark, Jessica, Holly, Brandon and Kathleen; several nieces, nephews and many friends. DUFF, James Joshua, C.A. (Founding Partner of McCay, Duff and Company) Jim Duff passed away peacefully on Sunday, April 6, 2008 at the age of 93. He was the beloved husband and life-long love of the late Elsie Duff. Loving father of Larry (Helen), Joan (Ric) Potter and Margaret (Peter) Higginson. Grandfather to nine grandsons and five great-grandchildren. Brother of Margaret (Coulter), Mac (Alice) and the late Geordie (June). Originally from Saskatchewan, Jim and his university friend, Johnny McCay came to Ottawa during WW II, and subsequently founded the accountancy firm McCay, Duff and Company in 1946, which is still active in Ottawa. Jim was a founding member of the Granite Curling Club, and enjoyed it for many years. His passion was golf, which he played as a member of the Ottawa Hunt Club until he was 90. Although he was always very low-key and humble about it, Jim was a volunteer 'extraordinaire' -- Ottawa Children's Treatment Centre, United Church of Canada, the Ottawa Rotary Club, and many others. He was awarded the Paul Harris Fellow by the Ottawa Rotary Club, recognizing in particular, his years of ongoing assistance in the establishing and running of the Ottawa Rotary Home for Children. In 2003 he received the Golden Jubilee Medal in recognition of significant achievement and service to his fellow citizens of Canada. We hope that his life will continue to inspire those who knew and loved him. The family wishes to thank the dedicated staff at the Dialysis Units at both the Civic and Riverside Hospital sites and Extendicare Starwood Nursing Home for the professional and compassionate care provided to Jim. GAUTHIER, Reverend Marc Loric - Priest of the Diocese of Pembroke. Father Gauthier died peacefully, at the Pembroke Regional Hospital, on Saturday, April 5th, 2008 in his 82nd year. He was the son of the late Alfred Gauthier and Marie Soucy. Following his studies at Saint Paul Seminary, Ottawa and Saint Augustine Seminary, Toronto, he was ordained to the priesthood on June 7, 1952. He served as assistant at Saint Columbkille Cathedral, Pembroke, St. Peter parish, Fort-Coulonge, Saint-Jean-Baptiste parish, Pembroke, and Saint Alphonsus parish, Chapeau. Father Gauthier served as parish priest of Saint Anne parish, Rapides-des-Joachims, Saint- Jean-Baptiste parish, Pembroke, Saint Bernadette parish, Bonfield, and Saint Anne parish, Ile-du-Grand-Calumet. In addition to his parochial duties, Father Gauthier served as principal of École Normale Saint-Michel in Fort-Coulonge from 1959-1965. In September 2000, Father Gauthier retired from parish ministry, but continued to stay connected to the many people he served in both Ontario and Quebec. He has recently been in residence at the Sisters of St. Joseph Motherhouse, where he continued his own ministry among many cherished friends. He is mourned by his sisters Annie (the late Wilf Bimm), Jacquleine Taylor, and his brother Leo “Smokey“. Predeceased by his siblings Alexander “Lou”, Emery, Ernest, Connie, Andre, Doris and Patricia. He will be remembered in a special way by his many nieces, nephews, brother priests and friends. Born on January 29th, 1914, she was predeceased by husband George (1994), brothers Ambrose (1916), John (1975) and sister Marie (1941). Born in St. Stephen Son of the late Francis Michael and Annie Florence (Hinchy) Larkin. Survived by his wife, Marion Lois (Douglas) Larkin; sister-in-law, Ruth Douglas of Saint John, N.B.; several nieces, nephews and cousins. Francis served faithfully as a Lay Minister for Holy Rosary and St. Stephens Parishes for many years. Francis was a member of Council 6507 Knights of Columbus, St. Stephen. He was employed with J.Clark and Son Ltd. and later as Supervisor at Customs Revenue Agency until his Retirement. He was a veteran of the Second World War having served in Canada and twice Overseas processing the troops returning to Canada. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, April 8, 2008, 12 Noon at Holy Rosary Roman Catholic Church, Union Street, St. Stephen, N.B. Interment in Milltown Catholic Cemetery. Departed this life with quiet dignity in Ottawa April 5th, leaving behind a treasury of precious memories for her husband Walter (Paddy), daughters Sandra Kuelz (with Bernd), and Nancy Marcotte (with Brian), five grandchildren, Ron (with his Nancy), Evan (with Stephanie), Leslie, Chenoa (with Jon) and Kyle. There are five great-grandchildren, the joy of her last years. Roberta met Walter (Paddy to her) when he was a senior staff Officer at No.3 Wireless School (RCAF) in Winnipeg in 1943. They married in 1946 and she loyally encouraged him through nine years of post-War University in Winnipeg and New York. Throughout their ministries to United Church congregations, from Manitoba through Ontario to Labrador, she was Walter's wise and patient partner. A devoted homemaker and gracious hostess she often had places at her table for new immigrants and unfortunate street people, as well as for friends and dignitaries. SMITH, Katherine (nee Famulak) April 12, 1928 - April 4, 2008 Katherine (Kay) Smith, beloved wife of William Smith of Calgary, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family after a valiant battle with cancer on Friday, April 4, 2008 at the age of 79 years, just eight days short of her eightieth birthday. Katherine was born in Melville, SK and raised in Saskatoon where she met and married her childhood sweetheart, Bill. Kay lived a simple life and her greatest joy was time spent with her family. She will be remembered fondly for her kindness, her welcoming smile and her deep blue eyes that never lost their sparkle! Kay had a way of making each and every person feel special in her presence. She asked very little of others, but gave unconditionally of herself - even to the very end. Kay had a deep and strong faith in God and a great awareness that she would be going to a better place.
