Predeceased by her children Ellen, Joan, Ritchie, Johnny and Dale. Survived by her other children Susan (Don), Pat (Ralph), Victoria (Dalbert), Mitchell (Sylvia) and Gina (Jay), her daughter-in-law Bessie, her granchildren and great-grandchildren, her sisters Pearl, Myrtle (Franklin) and Norma (Kenneth) and by her many nieces, nephews and cousins. CZIFRA, Anna Marie (Taylor/Weiss) 1919 - 2008 It is with great sadness that the family of Anna Marie announces her passing on April 4, 2008 at the age of 89 years. Anna was born on February 21, 1919. SHEPPARD, Charlotte Margaret (MacKenzie) 18 Sheppard Lane - Mount Stewart. March 16, 1921- April 6, 2008. Charlotte (Chaud) was born in Baddeck, N.S., on March 16, 1921, the first of three daughters (Dorothy Ann Muloin, Belle Morrison Bellemare) of Charles Dawson MacKenzie and Julia Anne Morrison. Charles MacKenzie was a member of the CEF during the First World War, and later served with the Nova Scotia Police Force until it was absorbed by the R.C.M.P. in 1932. He served with the RCMP until he was pensioned in 1949. As a result, Charlotte's early years were spent between Baddeck, New Glasgow and Halifax, N.S. Charlotte's wartime service was with the RCMP in Halifax, N.S. In 1946, Charlotte married Dr. George G. Sheppard, and the couple moved to Mount Stewart, P.E.I., in 1947 where he practised medicine until his death in 1985. Charlotte is survived by her children: Sheila Curley, George (Kathy), Graham (Anne) and Peter. Grandchildren Peter (Shelly), Kristopher (Niki) Curley, and Lauren (Joseph) Murphy; George and Chevon Sheppard; Christopher and Laura Sheppard. Great-grandchildren, Alex and Lilly Murphy, and MacKenzie Curley. At Charlotte's request there will be a private service with no viewing hours. NOGA, Vera 2008-04-07 Early in the morning of April 5, in peace and dignity, Vera left us to be with her beloved children Jim and Sandra. Vera was born in Fort William on November 20, 1917, one of ten children to Michael and Elena Dokuchic. After being educated at Ogden Street School, Vera moved to Chicago where she began working as a homemaker. In 1940 she returned to Fort William, married Peter Noga, and started her family. Over the years Vera devoted her efforts to raising her five children Peter, Barbara, Wendie, James and Sandra. As the children completed their education and began to leave the nest, she started working for the city of Thunder Bay, retiring in 1982. After retiring, Vera joined the "Y", learned to swim and joined the church choir. Her sisters, brothers and children were the focus of her life. Vera’s love of nature was evident in her gardening and walking activities. Vera is survived by her children Peter (Barb), Barbara, Wendie (Clair) Pilgrim, sisters Annie Zeleny, Alexandria Umpherson, Zenovia (Morris) Stoyka, sisters-in-law Rose and Jean Dokuchic and her extended family Ruth (Bill) Mill, Faye Noga, and Tom Lane. She was Grannie to her eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her children Sandra and Jim, husband Peter, granddaughter Michelle, parents Michael and Elena Dokuchic, sisters Julia Saipe and Olga Ziomek, brothers Bill, Steve, Nick and Alex Dokuchic. A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, April 9 at 11:00 a.m. at Knox United Church, 303 Pruden Street. A reception will be held at the church immediately following the service. In lieu of flowers donations to the Cancer Society, Heart and Stoke or the charity of your choice would be appreciated.

DOI, Lorayne Gail 2008-04-07 Lorayne Doi of Olds Alberta passed away suddenly on April 3, 2008, surrounded by family and loved ones. She will be sadly missed by her children, Dereck (Sandra) of Olds; Donna of Tokyo, Japan; and Wayne of Olds; her grandchildren Christopher, Kimberly, Chelsea of Olds; and Kirstie of Winnipeg, MB; her sister Joyce Wakefield and brother Eddie Caban (Mary), and brother-in-law Harry Vanderwey of Thunder Bay, ON, as well as many close relatives and friends. Lorayne was very proud of her family, and did everything she could to help out when needed. She enjoyed working with her sons until health issues forced her to retire, at which point she devoted her time to her puppies Kuro and Tootsie. Her four grandchildren were her greatest joy, and she was happy to be a part of their growing up and was proud of all of their many accomplishments. She touched the lives of everyone she met, and her familiar face will be greatly missed by all. "Mom, we didn‘t say it often enough, but we all loved you very, very much." In respect of Lorayne’s wishes, no service or funeral will be held. WILSON, GORDON GERARD - The death of Gordon Gerard Wilson of Saint John, NB occurred at the Saint John Regional Hospital on Sunday, April 6th, 2008 after a brief illness. Born in Saint John, NB, on February 3rd, 1936, he was the son of the late J. Arthur and Helen (O'Brien) Wilson and the husband of Sarah (Lynch) Wilson. Gordon was a great sports fan. In his younger days, he coached both youth baseball and hockey. He finished his coaching years as President of the North-end Little League in 1974. Gordon worked for General Bakeries/Ben Bakeries for over 40 years before retiring in 2000. Survived by his wife , Sarah; daughters, Beth Landry (Allan) of Rothesay, Karen MacFarlane (Donald) of Saint John, Nancy Connell (Bruce) of Saint John, and Hope Wilson of Edmonton; son Blaise Wilson (Patricia) of Halifax; grandchildren, Bret Landry, Sarah Landry, Jill Landry, Philip MacFarlane, Ryan MacFarlane, Patrick MacFarlane, Michael Connell, Emily Connell, and Kelly Connell all of Saint John, Erin Wilson of North Carolina, Haley Wilson and Michael Blaise Wilson of Halifax, and many nieces and nephews. MERCER, DONALD S. - The death of Donald Stewart Mercer of Saint John, occurred on April 4, 2008 at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Devoted Husband of Evelyn (Sullivan) Mercer, he was born in Saint John 1936 to the late Deinstadt and Vera (Pye) Mercer. Donald worked at the Cathedral and retired in 1997. He was also a member of The Men of the Cathedral. Besides his wife Evelyn of 41 years, he is survived by special cousins and goddaughter, Carol Anne and Garnett Hagerman and their daughter, Stacey. HACHEY, ALBERT J. - The passing of Albert Joseph Hachey of Fredericton, NB occurred Thursday, April 3, 2008 at the age of 91. Born March 15, 1917 in Rogersville, NB, he was the son of the late Auguste and Flavie (Cormier) Hachey. Albert was a member of St. Dunstan's Roman Catholic Church, Fredericton and prior to his retirement was a butcher with Chippins Ltd. His parents, wife Meta L. (Jensen) Hachey (1993), brothers, Fred and François and a sister, Thérèse all predeceased him. Albert is survived by a step-son, Alton Adams (Marion) of Newmarket, Ont.; step-grandchildren, Barbara Johnston and Lorraine Clarke (Peter) both of Ontario; four step-great grandsons, and one step-great grand-daughter; a sister, Adèle Bourque of Fredericton; six brothers, Edgar (Thérèse) of Fredericton, Gerald (Loree) of Florida, Fred (Rigina) of Moncton, Eric (Doris) of Shediac Bridge, Joseph (Stella) of Cocagne and Alderic (Dorina) of Fredericton; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. She was born May 2, 1922 in McNamee, NB. Georgina served as a WREN during World War II. O'REILLY, Ruth Elizabeth (nee MacLeod) - Royal Canadian Legion 47 years -Ladies Auxillary with Branches 9 and 560 - Past President Ladies Auxillary Branch 9 - Past Zone Commander - Silver Cross Woman Died peacefully at her home on Saturday, April 5, 2008 after a brief but courageous battle with cancer. She was in her 89th year. Ruth is predeceased by her husband Howard O'Reilly (1975) and her second, very special companion Arthur Dominique Delisle (1996); her daughter Florence MacLeod, her parents John and Charlotte MacLeod, her sisters Lillian (Lloyd) Inman, Clara (Roy) Fallon all of PEI; her brother Malcolm MacLeod of Windsor, ON. Survived by her sisters Beulah (Wallace) Callbeck and Marion Buell of PEI; her niece Marion Johnston whom she was like a Mother to and, special Nanny to great-niece and great- nephew Christine and Jeffrey (Sheena), great-great nephew Dominick Johnston all of Kingston; nephew Charles (Angie) Callbeck of Kingston whom she relied heavily on during the last few months; and many more nieces and nephews on PEI. Ruth will be remembered by all her family and friends for her sharp and zany sense of humour, her loyalty and unconditional love. She was particularly fond of parties, dancing and liked nothing better than to laugh loudly with her family and friends while sharing some beer. A champion dart player with many first place trophies as recently as a couple of years ago. She was a lady who lived her life on her own terms. She loved the outdoors and spent many happy years at her and Arthur's cottage on Howe's Lake, Verona. She loved to fish and was a great fisher lady, with her and grampy Art teaching Christine and Jeffrey the tricks of catching the big 7 lb bass. Dominick gave her great pleasure these last few months as he was the “ apple of her eye “. Her generosity, sensitivity and unique wit made the lives of those who knew her a little brighter. She left her life on her own time and in her own way with dignity, like the song say “ I DID IT MY WAY“. She was deeply loved and will be deeply missed. PLUMPTRE, Beryl Alyce, O.C. (nee Rouch) With her family beside her, Beryl died peacefully in her own home as she wished on Friday, April 4, nine months shy of her 100th birthday. Articulate, sociable and elegant to the end, she was predeceased by her beloved husband Wynne, with whom she shared a varied and fascinating life of public and community service, combined with a strong sense of family, a love of travel and cultural pursuits, and a flair for entertaining second to none. Born in 1908 in Melbourne Australia, Beryl graduated from the Presbyterian Ladies College. Shortly after launching her career with the Bank of New South Wales, she won a scholarship to Cambridge University where she pursued graduate studies in economics with John Maynard Keynes. It was at Cambridge that she met Wynne who, having fixed his sights on her, had to sail to Australia to ensure she followed through on marriage plans. She was a devoted partner throughout his distinguished career, working by his side in posts at the University of Toronto, the Canadian Embassy in Washington, NATO in Paris, the Department of Finance in Ottawa and the U of T at Scarborough, where she and Wynne presided over the flowering of the College during his tenure as its first full-time Principal. Unfazed by the fact that women in the professions were still uncommon, she established her own credentials as an economist, working with agencies such as the Wartime Prices and Trade Board, the Tariff Board and the Royal Commission on Coastal Trading. She also became a fearsome consumer advocate, serving as National President of the Consumers Association of Canada from 1961 to 1966. She played a determining role in the establishment of a new federal department responsible for consumer affairs an effective but short-lived voice for Canadian consumers that subsequent governments soon muffled by burying it deep within the bureaucracy. She also spoke up for consumer interest as a member of the now-defunct Economic Council of Canada. Then, in 1973, she was appointed to head the Food Prices Review Board, where she insisted that she would report not to the government, but directly to the people of Canada. With her no-nonsense attitude and independent spirit, she earned the respect and gratitude of Canadians across the country by speaking up for their interests and "telling it like it is," without regard for bureaucratic inertia or efforts at ministerial interference. This appointment was followed by another as Vice-Chair of the Anti-Inflation Board, from which she resigned to care for Wynne prior to his death in 1977. Not content with retirement, she took up arms against forces threatening to destroy the character of the village of Rockcliffe Park by getting elected Reeve and serving as a member of the Regional Council of Ottawa-Carleton. Beryl also served on several corporate boards, including Dominion Stores and Canada Life, and as chair of various non-profit organizations, including the Vanier Institute of the Family and the Kidney Foundation of Canada. An incomparable hostess, avid gardener and bird lover, she leaves behind her adored and caring children, Judith and Tim, along with their spouses, Alex Wedderspoon and Barbara Laskin. A proud grandmother to Caroline and her husband David Clarke of Vancouver, Michael Wedderspoon and his wife Marisa of Edinburgh, and Bora and Genny Plumptre of Ottawa, she took enormous pleasure in their accomplishments, many of which she aided and abetted. She was a delighted great-grandmother to Zachary, India, Scarlett, Sylvie and Layla. Her loss is deeply felt by her devoted caregiver, Tess Tapeceria, who was a great help in her last years, by her nephew Peter Rouch and his wife Anne in Australia, and by many loyal friends and former colleagues. Her family expresses deep appreciation to the wonderful Dr. Frances Kilbertus, her colleagues at the Elisabeth Bruyere Health Centre, to the Community Care Access Centre, and to caregivers from St. Elizabeth Health Care for the compassionate and professional care they provided to Beryl in her latter days. A memorial service will take place at St. Bartholomew's Anglican Church, 125 MacKay Street, Ottawa on Wednesday, April 9 at 2 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Elisabeth Bruyere Health Centre (SCO Health Service Foundation, 613-562-6319) or the Kidney Foundation of Canada would be appreciated. AUSTIN, Mildred Cecelia Cyd. Sept. 17, 1911-April 5, 2008 - Passed away quietly in her sleep at Bella Senior Care with her family at her side on Saturday in her 97th year. Dear wife of the late George William Austin (Apr. 5, 1978) Beloved mother of Cecelia Emery (late George) of Niagara Falls and Dr. Thomas Austin and his wife Marilyn of London, Ontario. Mother- in-law of Raymond Gallagher (late Janet). Loving grandmother of Kathryn Walchuk (Peter) of St. Catharines George G.T. Emery (Geri), Tom Emery (Linda), David Gallagher, Julie Farquarson (Kevin) and Chris (Laura) Gallagher all of Niagara Falls, Shaun (Amanda) Gallagher of Fonthill, Michael Austin, John Austin, Leah (Brent) Jesney all of London, ON, James (Kristie) Austin of Cambridge, Laura (David) Treloar and Charlotte Austin all of Vancouver. Great-grandmother of Bradley, Jessica, Jamie, Sarah, Sean, Kendal, Danny, Olivia, Emma-Janet, Austin, Michaelie, Aiden, Belle, Piper and Kaleb. Dear aunt of Carolyn (Brian) Mealey, Dr. Eleanor Hogg-Kuntz (Dr. Michael Kuntz) and Bill Hogg. Predeceased by her daughter Janet Gallagher, her parents Cecelia and William Hogg and her brother Bill Hogg. She was born on Main St. in Chippawa Sept. 17, 1911 and lived there all her life. She attended King George School and NFCVI. She went to work for the Niagara Parks Commission in the administration office, where she met and married her husband George on Sept. 15, 1933. After the war, in 1945, she became a founding member of the Ladies Auxiliary for the Royal Canadian, Legion Br., 396. She attended Holy Trinity Church in Chippawa from the time she was 6 years old. She worked for the Federal Government at the Unemployment Insurance Office retiring in 1976. She lived on her own until her 94th year when she moved to Willoughby Manor, enjoying her stay there. Most recently moved into Bella Sr. Care Residence, where she received outstanding care. She was a wonderful mother, grandmother and great- grandmother and will be sorely missed by her family and friends. May she rest in peace. CAMPBELL, Joan (nee Cassano) June 28, 1921 - April 5, 2008 It is with sadness that the Campbell family announces the peaceful passing of their Mum and Nana, Joan Campbell, at the Southwood Hospice in Calgary on Saturday, April 5, 2008. Joan was born in Aldershot, England in 1921 to Alice Maude and Ernesto Cassano. Ernesto died tragically young and Joan grew up with her mother and half-sister Jo. During World War II Joan joined the RAF. It was discovered that she had a beautiful singing voice and she spent most of the war entertaining the Allied troops stationed in England. It was at one of these Concert Parties that she met a piano playing Canadian soldier, Mervyn Campbell. They married in 1943 and Joan came to Canada as one of many War Brides. Joan and Merv lived most of their lives in Calgary where their home was always open to friends and family. The "Concert Parties" continued until Merv passed in 1997. Joan will be missed and mourned by her children, Paddy (Lyn) and Bryan, her grandchildren, Jennifer, Emma and Jasen, her daughter-in-law, Lynette and her dear friend, Jack Scott. She will also be lovingly remembered by the many friends who enjoyed her hospitality over the years. This was one of Joan's favourite poems by Victor Hugo " Let us be like a bird for a moment and take/ Sweet rest on a branch that is ready to break; She feels the branch tremble, yet gaily she sings, What is it to her?
