BLANCHARD, John Rust - Peacefully at home on April 2nd, 2008, at the age of 88. Loving husband of Evelyn (nee Fergus). Son of Alice Boyer Rust and Arthur Clarence Douglas Blanchard, born August 29th, 1919, in Niagara Falls. John will be sadly missed and remembered by Evelyn, the children and grandchildren. Predeceased by sister Nancy. A graduate of Trinity College School, Port Hope, and McGill University, P. Eng '41 (Chemical). Retired from SNC - Lavalin, Montreal, and later returned to work as President of Sulconam, Montreal. A resident of Kingston the past 24 years, John was an active volunteer with the United Way, and also for the past 20 years as a computer instructor at the Kingston Senior Centre. He had many hobbies including sailing and woodworking. He loved the outdoors, and spent many happy years at the cottage. Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held on Tuesday, April 22, 2008 at JAMES REID FUNERAL HOME, Cataraqui Chapel (1900 John Counter Blvd.) with visitation at 1 p.m., and service at 2 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations in John's memory may be made to The United Way or Kingston General Hospital - Palliative Care (donations by cheque only please). 11040710

Beloved wife of the late Walter Burkholder. Dear mother of Marianne and Frank Ford, of Owen Sound and Stuart and Margaret Burkholder, of Cavan, Ont. JENKINS, Roy Peacefully on April 3, 2008 with his family at his side. Beloved husband and best friend of Gwen. Dearly loved father of Susan (Hugh Pearson) and adored "Grandpa Roy" of Tessa. Beloved son of the late Ed and Dorothy. Roy will also greatly be missed by his nieces, nephews and friends. After over 30 years with Bell Canada, Roy enjoyed a busy and productive retirement. Always willing to help others, Roy was an active volunteer including many years working for the Red Cross and for his Church. Until his last illness he also kept busy with swimming, curling, and walking and he always took great pride in his home and cottage. Our thanks to all of those who called and visited during his illness and to the staff of the Ottawa General Hospital and the Elisabeth Bruyere Centre. RUBIN, Leona Ella (nee Goodfellow) 1918-2008 Leona Rubin, loving wife, proud mother and grandmother passed away peacefully close to her 90th birthday on March 26th. Leona was born in Vars, Ontario to parents Robert John and Ella May Goodfellow on April 13, 1918. Leona attended Navan High School and received her nurses training at Salvation Army Hospital in Ottawa, Ontario. Leona married John Alfred Rubin in 1953, they moved from Vancouver British Columbia with their three daughters to Portland OR in 1962. Leona worked as a nurse in both pediatrics and gerontology. She loved her nursing career and she loved working with children and the elderly. Mom enjoyed life, people, children and animals. She had a great sense of humour and fun. She also enjoyed reading, riding her bike and crocheting. Mom was a twin and very proud of being a twin, she was family oriented and she always mentioned her twin sister Betty when she talked about her family. Mom was a member of St David's of Wales Episcopal Church in Portland, she served on the vestry, was a member of both the Daughter's of St. David's and St. Margaret's Guild. Mom was preceded in death by her five sisters and three brothers. Mom is survived by her husband of 55 years John and her daughters, Janice Rubin of Eugene OR, Barbara Scalise (Steve) of Westerville Ohio, Sally Sayler of Portland OR and her three grandchildren, Michael Scalise, Amanda Scalise and Audrey Sayler and many nieces and nephews. A memorial service and celebration of her life will be held at 12:00 pm Sunday April 13th, at St. David's of Wales Episcopal Church 2800 S.E. OBITUARY ERNEST REGINALD HAILS Ernie passed away with dignity after a long illness on March 28, 2008, at the age of eighty-eight, in Shrewsbury, England. At his side was his devoted and caring wife of twenty-nine years Joyce Payne. He was predeceased by his dear first wife, Olive Lucy Edwards in 1968. He leaves to mourn, his loving daughter Josephine Olive Hails (Derek Anderson) and loving son James Edward. Step-father to Keith (Barbara) and Allan Payne, brother-in-law to Marjorie Edwards (Cardiff, Wales), he also leaves his two grand-children, many nieces, nephews and close friends. Ernie was born March 12, 1920 in London, England, the youngest of nine children. He lived in the heart of London during WWII and survived the "Blitz". Ernie and his young family immigrated to Canada in 1955. He was a self made man, so as a master tool and die maker working for General Steel Wares, he quickly became General Manager. He later went on to create his own company, M&H Precision Plastics. He was a long time resident of Pointe Claire but in 1994 he returned to his native England to enjoy retirement with Joyce in their beloved Shropshire Hills. Vera was born in Beiseker, AB and attended school there. She loved sports and was a great baseball player. Vera joined the Ursuline Sisters in 1951 and was a member for nineteen years. During these years, she taught kindergarten in Drumheller and later managed a home in Windsor, ON for persons with Downs Syndrome. In 1974, Vera became an Associate member of the Sisters of Charity of St. Louis, and has been connected with them until her passing. She worked with some of these Sisters as a member of the Calgary Diocesan Religious Education Team for five years. Vera then attended Mount Royal College in Calgary and received a Certificate as a Recreational Therapist. She worked at the Drumheller Auxiliary and Nursing Home as Director of Recreation and Leisure Therapy for eighteen years. She retired in Drumheller and several years later moved to Calgary. Vera is survived by her two brothers, Vern Schmaltz and family, and Marvin (Marj) Schmaltz and family; brother-in-law Dorville Meyer and family and Sister Louise McIvor, S.C.S.L. who was like a sister to her. She was predeceased by her parents Valentine and Helen Schmaltz and by her sister Marlene (Gay) Meyer. LONDON, JOHN MERRILL - John M. London, husband of Joyce (Rhan) London of Grand Bay-Westfield passed away peacefully at home on April 3, 2008 surrounded by his family. Born 1943 in Saint John to the late Harry and Myla (Shanks) London. John was a devoted husband, father and grandfather; he loved spending time with his family and friends. DOROTHY MAY HAGGERTY - At the Saint John Regional Hospital, Saint John NB on April 3rd, 2008, Mrs. Dorothy May (Brown) Haggerty, wife of the late Mr. Earl Frances Haggerty of New River, NB. Born at Campobello, NB on August 20th, 1930, she was a daughter of the late Harry and Elsie (Carter) Brown. Dorothy McCabe Dorothy K. McCabe, 87, of Spencer Memorial Home, with her loving family at her side, passed away peacefully at her residence on Friday, April 4, 2008 Born in Black River Bridge, NB, she was the daughter of the late John and Rebecca (Godfrey) Fowlie. Upon moving to Moncton, she worked at the T. Eaton Co. Ltd. Margaret Isabel MacCallum 1927 - 2008 Margaret I. MacCallum, of Moncton, passed away at Kenneth E. Spencer Memorial Home following a lengthy illness on Thursday, April 3, 2008 at the age of 80 years. She was born in Moncton, NB on July 5, 1927 and was the daughter of the late James and Mary (Mitton) MacCallum. She was a member of St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church. Margaret was a retired member of the Nursing Profession, she was a graduate of the University of Toronto, Class of 1957. She was also a member of the New Brunswick Nurses Association. LIFE, Alice Ellen 1933 - 2008 Alice Ellen Life (nee Booth), beloved wife of Frederick Joseph, passed away suddenly at the Peter Lougheed Hospital, on Sunday, March 30, 2008 at the age of 74 years. Alice was born December 6, 1933 in Southey, Saskatchewan. She was a loving mother, grandmother, sister and auntie, and will be greatly missed. She is survived by three children: Lori (Ken Strickland), Kenneth and John; two grandchildren Jonathan and Karla; a sister Peggy Montgomery of Toronto, ON; two brothers, Lew Booth of Moose Jaw, SK and Roy (Jean) Booth of Calgary; as well as many nieces and nephews. She will be deeply missed by her only son Joel (Melyne) and by her sisters Vickie (Christine), Pandy (Leonard), her brother Tommy and her nephew and nieces Jason, Nicole and Amanda. Beloved sister-in-law of Peter (Soco), Victor (Mui Hong), Weng Thye, Patrick (Karen), Fred (Agnes), Soo Kee (Chong Ah Kiew), Soo Kheng (the late Ng Lok Bin), Soo Kiang (the late Chua Teow Seng), and Soo Guek (Peter Foo). Sadly missed by numerous nieces and nephews in Singapore, USA and Canada. She will be missed by all. Everyone she met and knew was touched by the greatness of her heart. She was a loving and caring person that cared more for others than she would for herself.
