Born June 7th, 1939 to Jack and Dora (Constantineau) Manton (both predeceased), in Dalton, Ontario. Beloved wife of Harold “Spike“ Boal of Sudbury. Loving mother of Bruce of Sudbury and Tara Trimmer (Chris) of Hanmer. Cherished grandmother of Katrine Trimmer, who gave so much joy to her life. Dear sister of Margaret Gavin (Bob), Jean Byers (Denis), Carole Tyreman (Bill) and Pat Lalonde (Armond) all of Sudbury, John (Mary) of Kelowna, B.C., and Don (Nancy) of Pembroke. Dear sister-in-law of Bonnie Thomas (Ron predeceased) and Cathie Horne (Dan) both of Kirkland Lake. A great listener for her many nieces & nephews. Dolly worked many years for the Taxation Data Centre and was a member and former Executive member of the Mended Hearts and CWL. She enjoyed time with the “Bridge Girls“ and her scrabble games with her dear friends. Dolly will be remembered for one who never complained, her gentle heart and always having a smile to share. COOK, Ernest Douglas - Suddenly at the North Bay General Hospital on Sunday March 30th, 2008 at the age of 76 years. Douglas Cook was the beloved husband of the late Margaret (nee Casey) who predeceased him in 2002. The proud and loving father of John of Calgary, Paul and his wife Karen of North Bay, and Peggy-Lou Shook and her husband Stephen of Brampton. Doug will be lovingly remembered by his grandchildren Matthew and Amy Cook and Brittnie and Maggie Shook . Born in Halifax Doug was the second youngest of the thirteen children of John and Letitia Cooke. He was predeceased by his parents and ten of his siblings. He is survived by his sisters Doris Bryson of Dartmouth and Ruth Benjamin Soles Lake. Doug was an aircraft mechanic by trade and retired as a Warrant Officer from the Canadian Air Force after a 35 year career. His family would like to thank the North Bay General Hospital Emergency Department staff for their professional and compassionate care. In keeping with his wishes cremation has taken place. Friends may call at the MARTYN FUNERAL HOME (across from city hall) on Wednesday evening from 7 - 9 pm and on Thursday April 3rd from 1:00 pm until time of service in the Chapel at 3:00pm. ALEXANDER, John William - Passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, March 30, 2008 at the age of 70. John was the loving husband of Mavis for 52 years; father of John (Lori) and Gary (Louise), grandfather of Tommy, Sean, Natalie and Danielle. He is survived by his sister Patricia in Canada, a brother and a sister and their families in Wales, cousins Shirley and Anton, Brian and Jacqueline and their families in Canada. NIDD, James Alton January 6, 1923 - March 29, 2008 James Nidd, beloved husband of Bernice Nidd (nee Johnston) of Calgary, passed away on Saturday, March 29, 2008 at the age of 85 years. James was born in Ottawa, ON, married Bernice in 1949 and moved his family to Calgary, AB in 1957. James's career was in aerial photography and he worked for Spartan Air Services, Kenting Services and finally formed his own company, Foto Flight, in 1978. Jim was a WWII Veteran, joining the Canadian Armed Forces at eighteen; he spent the next four years on the front lines in Europe. The loves of Jim's life were his family, hunting and fishing, smoking his cigar and walking his dog in the prairie. He also was a life-long learner, always with a book in hand; he passed this love of knowledge on to his children. Besides his wife, Bernice, James is survived by his five children, Phillip Nidd (Christine) of Houston, TX; Deborah Guthrie (William) of Kelowna, BC; David Nidd (Debbie) of Creston, BC; Mark Nidd of Kelowna, BC; Joanne Rota (Tony) of Revelstoke, BC; eleven grandchildren and one great-grandchild as well as several nephews and nieces. James was predeceased by his parents, James and Beatrice; sister Sadie Stevenson, brothers Donald and Morley Nidd. She graduated from the Royal Victoria Hospital in Barrie in 1942 and ended her career at the same hospital when she retired in 1980. Michalina Lukawiecki (née Aleksak) Surrounded by family, our 84 year old beloved mother, grandmother (Babcia) and great grandmother passed away after a valiant but brief struggle with pancreatic cancer on March 28, 2008. Born in Brzeziny, Krasnik, Lublin, Poland, Mom was predeceased by her husband Frank in 1991 and her daughter Mary in 1951. Mom will be lovingly remembered by her daughter Teresa (Edson) Sanecki; son Frank (Irene); grandchildren Paul (Lisa), Jennifer (Derek), Mark, Chris (Antonietta), Richard and Brian; great-grandchildren Makana, Brison, Edson, Joshua and Benjamin as well as her sister in Poland, Janina Oko. Mom loved her gardening and crocheting and was an active member of the Royal Canadian Polish Legion Branch #246. Everyone in her family will miss her perogies, kluski, cabbage rolls and pickles! Her sacrificial generosity was well known to us, so much so that we now acknowledge an act of unprecedented generosity as a 'Babcia act'! A heartfelt thank you to Father Peter of Holy Ghost Church for his visits and spiritual care of our mother. A special thank you is extended to Dr. Warraich at the Concordia Hospital and to moms personal physician Dr. Czarnecka, thank you to the wonderful palliative homecare workers Nyallay, Saba, Lori, Kenny, Manjit and Barb that allowed our Mom to stay in her home during her final days. We would like to thank the excellent nursing staff of Kris, Michelle, Kate, Richard and Sharon for their compassion and expertise, not only to Mom but to us as well. ARMSTRONG, George Robert "Bob" November 28, 1930 - March 27, 2008 George Robert "Bob" Armstrong passed away on Thursday, March 27, 2008, at age 77, four years after being diagnosed with Lewy Bodies dementia. Bob was born November 28, 1930 in Calgary, AB to Stella and Robert Armstrong who raised him, along with his brother Donald and two sisters, Marjorie and Edith. On the 20th of September 1952 Bob married the love of his life, Virginia Dain. In October of 1953 they began to raise their family and in 1959 moved to the community of Westgate. In the early years of life in Westgate Bob involved himself with the Community Association where he served as Sports Director and minor house league coach. Bob considered the eight years spent in night school to receive his CMA as one of his proudest professional achievements. His family considered the time he spent with them and his handmade gifts bearing the plaque "Made in Grandpa's Workshop" to be of even greater regard. Bob retired from Halliburton Oil Services on March 31, 1990 after forty years of dedicated service. Bob is survived by his spouse Virginia and children Laurie (Gerry) Perry, Gary (Maggie) Armstrong, Sandy (Robert) Albrecht, Melody (Jon) Chardon and grandchildren, Matt, Jeff, Mark, Jamie, Chris, Molly and Sophie. Bob was predeceased by his son Dougie, his parents Robert and Stella and brother Donald. KORTE, Adele With all of us feeling that a future without Mom (a.k.a.Nana) has arrived at our doorstep far sooner than any of us hoped it would, the daughters and partners of Adele Korte (Johanne/Rick Gregory, Nancie/Andy Wolff, Lu /Sue King and Karen Korte and Heidi/Bob McKee) announce her sudden death March 28, while visiting family in Toronto. In true Korte fashion she made her exit while packing the car to go skiing for the weekend! Adele was predeceased by her parents Gustave and Maria Vogel, and her beloved brothers Ed and Don. It's said that you can tell a lot about a woman by rifling through her purse. As we stare at its contents poured out on the kitchen table, we realize Adele's bulging bag was no exception. A favourite watch of her husband Johan who predeceased her in 2007 after 51 years of marriage, photos of her adored 11 grandchildren (Ryan, Keli, Lian and Derek Gregory, Makena, Hayden and Lake Korte-Moore, Quincy and Jesse Korte-King and Kayla and Kieran McKee), very old and stale but still used tubes of lipstick that spoke of a woman who was 'a child of the depression' beside blank cheques that were generously dispatched to make sure we never would be, a driver's license with the date of birth showing her to be younger than she actually was, Turkish lira and Saudi riyals, a much used library card, and, at the very bottom, a tiny yellowed newspaper clipping with words memory tells us she took to heart; "You may have tangible wealth untold, Caskets of jewels and coffers of gold, Richer than I you can never be, I had a mother who read to me." In Adele's memory, grab a coffee, grab a book and grab a child. Not necessarily in that order!
